Coal Association: Hey, Obama looks a little hostile!

After quotes from both Barack Obama and Joe Biden on coal have arisen over the last couple of weeks, the Ohio Coal Association has become just a wee bit concerned about the direction an Obama administration would take regarding energy. The president of the OCA released a statement today calling the Democratic ticket “extraordinarily misguided”:
Mike Carey, president of the Ohio Coal Association (OCA), today issued the following statement in response to just-released remarks from Senator Barack Obama about the nation’s coal industry.
“Regardless of the timing or method of the release of these remarks, the message from the Democratic candidate for President could not be clearer: the Obama-Biden ticket spells disaster for America’s coal industry and the tens of thousands of Americans who work in it.
“These undisputed, audio-taped remarks, which include comments from Senator Obama like ‘I haven’t been some coal booster’ and ‘if they want to build [coal plants], they can, but it will bankrupt them’ are extraordinarily misguided.
“It’s evident that this campaign has been pandering in states like Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Indiana and Pennsylvania to attempt to generate votes from coal supporters, while keeping his true agenda hidden from the state’s voters.
“Senator Obama has revealed himself to be nothing more than a short- sighted, inexperienced politician willing to say anything to get a vote. But today, the nation’s coal industry and those who support it have a better understanding of his true mission, to ‘bankrupt’ our industry, put tens of thousands out of work and cause unprecedented increases in electricity prices.
“In addition to providing an affordable, reliable source of low-cost electricity, domestic coal holds the key to our nation’s long-term energy security – a goal that cannot be overlooked during this time of international instability and economic uncertainty.
“Few policy areas are more important to our economic future than energy issues. As voters head to the polls tomorrow, it is essential they remember that access to reliable, affordable, domestic energy supplies is essential to economic growth and stability.”
How big will the coal remarks be? Let’s not forget Biden’s comments from six weeks ago:
“We’re not supporting clean coal.”
“No coal plants here in America. Build them if they’re going to build them over there. Make them clean.”
At the time, the Obama campaign swore that Biden had been taken out of context. Now it looks like Biden had the context exactly correct. An Obama administration would be very hostile to coal, and its policies would kill jobs in the coal-producing regions of the US, including the critical states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and others. If the Republicans can get this message out over the next 12 hours, they may be able to make a difference in Coal Country.

NOT ONE THING MENTIONED ABOUT NOBAMA’S COMMENTS ABOUT KILLING THE COAL INDUSTRY ON CNN OR ANY OTHER MSM SITES……IMAGINE THAT!
cadds182 on November 3, 2008 at 3:46 PM
Funny thing this is, but maybe the reason is, there is no context to begin with in the first place. It’s all rhetoric.

I read the title. I suppose they are suicidal. How on Earth are they going to keep their warm jobs as union leaders while the industry is gone? I can’t understand. And where are the Clintons? Their lack of backbone is amazing for me.

Thanks to Bubba, only China is allowed to mine “clean” low sulphur coal

Note a word, as if it never happened…but hey did you hear that Republicans spent money on Palin clothes?

The vast majority of workers will do what The UNION tells them. They have no other voice but that of The UNION. Just as the UAW are for The Messiah’s hate of the auto industry. It’s like they want their jobs to get the axe. We’ll see what happens, I reckon.

After all, they don’t need jobs right? They’ll just be dependent on the steady stream of ‘tax credit’ checks from Obama, paid for by those rich / middle class/ selfish conservatives.

I notice the time stamp on the comments is a bit screwy. On this thread and another thread I see comments with a time that hasn’t arrived yet, and these comments stay on the bottom, making them appear to be repeats but they’re not.

So, Obama says: “So what we have to do then is figure out how can we use coal without emitting greenhouse gases and carbon.” Maybe he can pull that one out his ass?
The UMWA site tries to persuade their workers that Obama is right, but who are they really looking out for? Union bosses do not always have the workers best interests at heart. They only want to hurt the mine owners. Policy like Obama’s will cost these workers jobs.
They mention McCain said “In a perfect World we would like to transition away from coal entirely.” Well, this is not a perfect World is it, so McCain is now the one being taken out of context it seems. McCain says that nuclear power would make this transition, but that is far off into the future.
What I make of this, is this is an Obama power and money grab, and this recklessness in speaking in San Fran has hurt his cause, not matter what his intentions are. He wants to spread the coal wealth it seems.
Vote for a balance in government.

Nice going. McCain needs to fire his opposition research team. Fast.
The Obama redistribution radio interview clip was found by a blogger.
And now the Obama ‘bankrupt the coal industry’ clip was found by a blogger.
Seriously was anybody in the RNC researching any of this stuff?
I’m not stupid enough to think the MSM would do the research, but you would expect a party that wanted to keep the White House could be expected to get some boots on the ground and get out there and do the research.
Thus far McCain has gotten gifts from the public to keep his campaign afloat; Joe the Plumber and audio and video clips dug up by bloggers.
Does McCain even HAVE an opposition research team?

The coal miners and the railroad people should shut down the coal supply from now until the votes are counted.

these “officials” are obviously profoundly retarded

Isn’t it amusing that Obama is always so lucid about his views and plans for American ppl only in San nonsensco ?
Has Obama said anything about Hannity while in SF? That would be some tape to hit youtube !
Oh they just announced Obama’s grandma passed away.

Only in America would we shun the largest proven reserves of energy on the planet–our coal. Not only that it is the world cleanest coal to start with. If we allowed the industry through the appropriate tax breaks, incentives to spend the billions necessary to perfect “clean coal” all this related nonsense about energy dependence would disappear. Yes it will take many years but we have to start sometime.
Instead we conjure up cap and trade while embracing global warming/whining and send trillions overseas enslaving our grandchildren.
As a footnote, unless they changed the law, a plant owner who wants to improve his pollution footprint with known technology in a section of his plant is not allowed. If he does he loses his grandfather status on the rest of the plant. This catch 22 makes it economically not feasible to proceed.

Great idea. Let the Libs sit in the dark for a while. If the union really wants to exercise its power that is the way it should do it.

Help! I’ve fallen for the okey-doke, and I can’t get up! (the coal industry)

Are there enough Virginians who can be swayed by the latest “no clean coal”; “coal facilities will go bankrupt” statements that have been unearthed? Not to mention, those from PA and OHIO. I hope so.
jstan on November 3, 2008 at 4:59 PM
I wonder how many early voters in coal country are now saying “damn, I should have waited!”
This is one of those issues where the fist tier effects (loosing coal jobs) will be dwarfed by the second teir effects: the increased, skyrocketing cost of EVERYTHING else.
karl9000 on November 3, 2008 at 5:08 PM
WHEN DOES OBAMA NOT LIE? YOU CAN TAKE CREDENCE IN THE WORDS THAT COME OUT OF HIS MOUTH WHEN IN SAN FRANCISCO. “Clinging to their bibles and guns…”… “coal facilities will go bankrupt…”
Caveat Emptor when he speaks anywhere else in the USA (or the World).

obamabots trying to spin this sh** are

Dear Coal Industry:
You got bamboozled. You fell for the okey-doke. You got Obama’ed where the sun don’t shine.
Hope it’s not too late, for all our sakes.

So Obama’s grandmother really was ill. How
typicalsad that she should pass away before the auspicious occasion that awaits us. However typical she may have seemed to BO in life, I’m sure that her death is a blow to him that is anything but typical. She must have been his rock for quite some time.smellthecoffee on November 3, 2008 at 5:31 PM
A little spooky that Obama acts like Robin Hood and if not for the hair plugs coupled with the lack of a brown robe, Biden would look like Friar Tuck. Have you seen the “Mr. Burns” hairstyle in the back?
Barrack on November 3, 2008 at 5:35 PM
A miner problem for Obama?
Dig it!
Maybe another kind of coke will sink this crypto-Marxist fraudster.
Wake up PA, OH, WV and every other mining state!
And anyone who uses electicity.
Barry is just Hugo Chavez with an extreme makeover.

Destroying coal burning energy producing plants will cost millions of jobs, disrupt our economy, weaken our defenses and prevent people from having the ability to warm their homes. This is an outright attack on America. He does not want us to produce homeland oil, he doesn’t want us burning coal. There is no way we can get from the sun nor wind that get from coal and oil.
We must defeat the beast, Pelosi, Obama and Reid
mindhacker on November 3, 2008 at 7:26 PM
Who knew that instead of being an unthinking gaffemeister, Sen. Joe Biden was actually the Cassandra of the campaign, actually telling the truth of what Obama had in store, though no one at the time would believe him?
