Carl Cameron: Optimism growing inside McCain camp

It won’t be easy but it is do-able. What’s got Maverick, Salter, and other senior aides suddenly so bubbly? Their internal polls, in all likelihood. Lead pollster Bill McInturff pronounced the race too close to call in a memo sent out late last week that claimed things were trending their way in the battlegrounds. They must have gotten more good news over the weekend. Someone had better tell Joe the Plumber because he’s sounding even more pessimistic than I am.
Stats wizard Nate Silver puts their odds at 1.9%. Click the image to watch.

What would you expect when you open registration a day before an election?
At least we can always count on Allah to bring us all important non-biased coverage from good people like Nate Silver & the fine folks at Politico.

Juan Williams tried to explain it as an peacekeeping type international deal… like the Peace Corps/Americorps…whatever.
Bill O’Reilly then told him… look, you don’t know what it is and I have no idea what you just said… then Ham was like “yeah, no one knows” because no one can ask him a question until after the election because he’s PMSing.

I have a surname that some often think is Jewish. I guess that explains why I received three (yes, three) mailers from the National Jewish Democratic Council today. One addresses abortion, one addresses energy independence (apparently two sticks for every household), and one addresses Obama’s “commitment” to a safe and secure Israel.
I have to say, I just don’t get any Jew (or any Catholic, too) voting for Obama. When Obama doesn’t answer the phone when Israel gets attacked, I hope Jews remember their support for him–what ever happened to “never again”?

Well I have to give credit to the Mac. Either their polls really are turning around or they are performing some mighty fine spin.
Either way, good for them. All conservatives need to go out to vote, especially in a tough year like this one. It can make a difference between a filibuster proof Senate and not.

Remember John McCain and his advisors, however how many pundits want to criticize them for the supposed inadequacies of the campaign or the selection of Sarah Palin, are professional backroom boys and girls. They live, eat and breath politics 24/7. I have been involved in a political campaign-they know what they’re doing. One of the main reasons that they know what they’re doing is that they have been around a long time and have participated in former camapaigns and essentially know what works and does not work. They also know what has to be done logistically to win elections-the work the public seldom sees but is vital to the GOTV effort. They know the kinds of people who will vote for McCain and conversely those who McCain has no hope in hell of landing their vote. I believe that this group sat down prior to the selection of Sarah Palin and came to the conclusion that they were not going to be able to muster the necessary enthusiasm to generate enough votes to win and just as importantly the base was not nearly as fired up as it was needed to be to spawn volunteers in tens of thousands and do the leg work and make the millions of phone calls necessary to be competitive. John McCain, of course, also realized this: Barack Obama is a once-in-a-lifetime charismatic phenomenon; adopting the playbook of Bob Dole and Jack Kemp (2 boring white guys) was not going to cut it this election cycle. By the choice of Joe Biden as VP over Hillary Clinton,Obama gave the McCain campaign an opportunity to inject the missing ingredient. They had to find a qualified political female to prove to the PUMA’s that McCain was sympathetic to their cause; and they had to find a woman who could match up to the charisma of Obama; and they had to find a female that could solidify and excite the base as well as attract Reagan Democrats and independents. Now tell me what are the odds that there would be a Republican female that could fit that bill and be the complete package in 2008, let alone the last 50 years. Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, and Wayne Gretzky don’t come around very often. It is one thing to recognize such a talent but to bank everything and to perhaps jepardize two years of campaigning on the performance of a political novice without any experience on the national stage is truly incredible and if McCain wins tomorrow will go down in American history as one of the best political decisions ever made.

Very inspirational. I think about this mess and then I think about my little Grandma who lived through the Depression and worked hard her entire life. She warned me that the government wants the voters to be illiterate and uninformed. She warned me to never fall victim to it. Just a couple weeks ago I said to myself “I’m glad Grandma’s not here to see this.” Can you imagine how sad that made me? :( Tonight I’m wishing she was here to watch us fight this thing back.

Daily Kos has their own fruity little electoral map now. If McCain wins — and I think he will — I am going to do the following.
1.) Print out the Daily Kos map showing a McCain victory.
2.) Have them framed and matted.
3.) Give them to the liberals I know as a Christmas gift — those familiar with DKos, anyways.
You call it pouring salt on their wounds while I call it good Christmas cheer. :-)

That is how I see it too. Nazi Germany did that. Makes me shiver at the thought. After reading his two books I was chilled. Then a undercover man was on the news. Told the reporter that Ayers wanted to kill two hundred million people or something like that. Was a hell of a lot of people. Obama is a evil man, that is all I can say. Nothing adds up, he cannot be trusted. And thousands of people flock to his as&. Just like they did to Hitler. Crazy stuff.

Guys, I turned an elderly retired lady to vote for McCain/Palin today.
I convinced her first that McCain was 72 years old and that understood better the issues that face retired people and that he would fight to make sure nobody touches her social security or medicare. I then told her that Obama was going to give free healthcare to those who are younger not on Medicare and this would totally drive healthcare costs up.
I convinved her to play it safe and protect her two favorite entitlements.
God, as a conservative, I really took one for the team. :)

As I’m getting ready to turn in for the night, I’m feeling an odd sense of calm. Tomorrow we’ll vote, taking part in a tradition that extends back unbroken for over 200 years–through a Civil War and World Wars, we’ve never skipped an election–folks, historically that’s unheard of. Brave men and women gave their lives for this unique privilege. Any forebodings I might have had are gone–I’m not worried what Gallup or any of the others are saying and I’m not about to pay attention to the exit polls. Instead, after doing my part and casting my ballot, I’m going to leave it in God’s and the American people’s capable hands.
I hope and pray that when I wake up on Wednesday morning that John McCain will be the 44th President of the United States.

Apologetic California on November 3, 2008 at 10:24 PM
First timmer here… thanks for letting us register!
Okay… this is why the McCain camp is “bubbly”, and why we need to make sure we tell everyone we can to stay positive and get our butts to the polls tomorrow.
We have all discussed why these polls could be wrong, not the least of which is the “Silent 50″, those 50 percent of called prospects that refuse to take a poll when called. Normally this is not a big issue, the pollsters make the assumption that the 50% that agree to be polled will vote the same as the ones who refuse, and they are usually correct – except in very emotionally charged races, much like our famous exit polling 4 years ago. This election I believe the silent 50%, or should I say a portion of them, are refusing to be polled simply because they are McCain supporters. Why I beleive this should be obvious so I will not expand. The real question is just how large that percentage is, no one knows, you can’t. But if 1 in 40 called prospects are refusing to be polled on this reason, it will swing the results a full 5 percentage points, now keep that in mind and let’s look at the states.
By taking only one pollsters numbers (so the methodology remains somewhat consistent) we can take a snapshot of the “toss up states” at RCP (using Rasmussen numbers).
Shown as toss ups are VA,NC,GA,OH,IN,FL,MO,ND,AZ, and MT. With the exception of VA, all of these states are at dead tied or positive for McCain in the latest Rasmussen polls, VA is 4 points in favor of Obama. Now here is where things get interesting. If we see that aforementioned 5 point swing then Va falls into the McCain column (and this coal bit from Obama will help that as well). Things are suddenly real tight, EV speaking that is.If the 5 point swing stays true then we also take Colorado which also shows 4 points for Obama – that leaves it at 269 to 269, but if we pull out Nevada (also 4 points in the latest polls) then McCain wins 274 to 265.
It’s not far fetched at all. The early returns on the east coast should tell us real quick just how far off the polls are swinging.
I’m “bubbly” myself!

This one imagines cadres of Obama Youth, funded by the Federal Government, available to do for all of America what ACORN has already started in the banking industry and with voter registration. It’s a very scary thing to listen to Obama’s comments about how we ‘need’ this.
Let’s see, we have a military for foreign conflicts which reports to the CIC. Each state in the Union has National guard that report to that state’s Governor unless deployed overseas, right? I like the idea of 50 different governors each having some amount of control over part of our military. Do I understand this correctly? is there someone here in the National guard who can clarify?
And now, O wants to develop an additional force? for what?
