RNC: Slippery Slope 3: Tax Hikes With A Vengeance

posted at 3:45 pm on November 2, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

I had to figure out which sequel naming convention to use for the RNC’s latest version of “Slippery Slope”:

This is the same basic ad that the RNC released last week, but Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Bill Richardson keep adding clarifications that allow the point to get more and more trenchant.  Thanks to the discovery of Obama’s definition of middle class in 2003, the RNC got to add another surprise ending.  It’s like The Usual Suspects, only we’re not quite sure yet that Obama will slip away and get away with it.

But The Usual Suspects didn’t have any sequels — thank goodness.  Obviously, I needed another movie to provide the new title.  I considered the following:

  • Star Wars (when it was good) – Return of the Tax Hikes.  Not bad, but not quite biting enough.
  • Star Wars (when it stunk) – Revenge of the Tax Hikes.  Better, but who wants to remember the prequel trilogy?  Eccch.
  • Star Trek – The Search For The Middle Class.  Sounds depressing.
  • Lord of the Rings – See the first entry.
  • Evil Dead – Army of Tax Hikes.
  • Halloween – Season of the Taxes.
  • Nightmare on Elm Street – Tax Warriors.  That made it sound too … heroic.
  • Children of the Corn – Tax Nightmare.  I almost chose that one.

Instead, I stuck with the Die Hard series.  What would you have chosen?

I don’t care what Matthews and Olbermann do or will do, they’re both insane.

What I do care about is even being AFRAID to tune into “Fox News Sunday” anymore because I CAN NOT STAND the McCain bashing and Obama slobber from “the panel”. Did they talk about the lowering tax threshhold at all? I suspect not.

There is always Sean Hannity bashing on this website. Sean Hannity was first with the Reverand Wright tapes and first with William Ayers. I know who I’m limiting my viewing to in the future on that channel (I’ll give Glenn Beck a look-see). I will NOT sit through O’Reilly on Wednesday (should the messiah win) gloating that McCain and Palin “didn’t do The Factor!”

Marcus on November 2, 2008 at 4:37 PM

These ads are extremely effective. (Unfortunately, it is too little too late.) Time after time, Obama’s minions and enablers have beaten McCain to the punch. (Through focus and repetition, they successfully defined McCain as Bush and Palin as incompetent. Romney would have only fared better if he played the same game.

This election should not have even been close.

Since just about everyone involved with the production of Star Wars is backing Obama, I’m not so sure how appropriate that would be.

Anyway, there’s no reason to raise taxes. Bush raised the national debt to almost $10 trillion. I say let’s go for $20 trillion, why stop when the going’s good? More tax cuts for large corporations and other supply side schemes are just what the country needs.

Quantom of Tax Hikes?

Roger Waters on November 2, 2008 at 6:21 PM

Here is the rub…
Obama talks about only taxing the capital gains, that the people developing wealth…but he never talks about taxing the people with wealth.
That is why certain billionaires and multi-millionaires don’t complain. They have already amassed their wealth. Their “capital gains” can be offset with equal amount of investment.
If he really wanted to go after the very wealthy, then he would simply say “Anyone over a net worth of 1 billion dollars will be taxed $100 million (10%) per year, or for parity, 30% or $300 million per year, or super parity $800 million.
Now let’s see how Murdoch feels…he paid less taxes last year then his secretary.
Obama wants to tax the people who are trying to achieve wealth…some only see the “$250,000″ for one or two years, and they will be more heavily taxed then those who have earned $25 million a year for decades.
