Quotes of the day

“I do not fear Barack Obama. I even rather like him. I certainly feel I have much more in common with him than I do with John McCain. To lead this country, though, I prefer the man who has seen more and suffered more and felt more. For all his faults, it is John McCain who is the more universal man.

“I vote for John McCain.”

“My country has never had to prove anything to me, my friends.”

Jeff, I agree that Obama is terrifying, and that is why I still prefer McCain to win, although some conservatives don’t. But a McCain victory will validate and continue what Bush has done for the last 8 years. If Obama wins, the GOP will more likely realize its faults and change itself. There are pros and cons for both outcomes.

Then bugger off and vote for Barr. D!ckhead.

You got it.

I’d rather have McCain on the White House while the GOP its realizing its faults and try to improve itself. And no, not McCain was responsable for the Bush’s mistakes in the last 4 years. And if you think that after Obama is elected we are going to get rid of him after 4 years you are wrong.

I’m only voting for Barr as a protest to the current GOP. I just want the GOP to go back to its small-government roots. Besides, my vote doesn’t count anyway since I live in California, a state that will definitely go for Obama.

Not quite true. A McCain victory will validate two things, 1) that Americans can still unite against a common threat as Pumas and conservatives have, 2) that energy in the base is tied to conservative/libertarian thought as Palin has shown.

Spirit of 1776 on November 1, 2008 at 11:47 PM

For anyone interested, my family and I had to cross over from Southern Ontario into Michigan for a memorial service for an aunt.

Border Security was REALLY tight. We were in line for about 50 minutes to get through the checkpoint. We scheduled for about 30 minutes. I’ve never seen them do this before, but they were pulling over the cars ready to drive over the bridge on the American side and checking them there. They even had a machine they ran over some of the vehicles. I’m not sure what it did. I’m guessing the stepped up security was probably something to prevent any incidents on the weekend before the election.

The border agent was great. He checked all of our documentation and asked us where we were going. We explained that we were going to a memorial service. He asked what time the service was. We told him 11:00 AM. It was already 11:05. He said – “So, this is probably a bad time to tell you you’ve been selected for a random check?” My heart sunk especially since I was supposed to read the eulogy. He continued – “I’m joking. Go!” and sent us on our way.

Canadians have always taken crossing into America for granted and expect it to be quick and painless. And in reality, no, it shouldn’t be quick and painless. We’re crossing into a foreign county, and a country that is at war and has been attacked at home. I always dread going through the checkpoints but I know they have a vital, important job. And I often tell them that and thank them when we’re done, since I am also an American.

My four year old nephew topped off the day by throwing up as we neared the church. But the ministers and everyone in attendance actually waited until we arrived to begin the ceremony. My faith in humanity grew stronger with that.

Canadian Infidel on November 1, 2008 at 11:47 PM

I see your point. A lot of people here are upset with the GOP and with president Bush but that its not a reason to vote for Obama or for Barr. And evan California does not matter too much and most likely is going to be for Obama at the end of the day, his margin of victory in the state matter. I’d rather see Obama winning not very convincenly California rather than see him taken it with a 20-25% margin. And McCain needs the popular vote too.

clemycali on November 1, 2008 at 11:49 PM

Roger Waters on November 1, 2008 at 11:49 PM

Speaking of the Youth Vote that is supposed to help Obama.

Gallup polling in October finds little evidence of a surge in young voter turnout beyond what it was in 2004. While young voter registration may be up slightly over 2004, the reported level of interest in the election and intention to vote among those under 30 are no higher than they were that year.

SouthernGent on November 1, 2008 at 11:51 PM

medschool catholic, you do know that John McCain and Sarah Palin are small government republicans?

voting against them is voting against the two most famous small government republicans in the party. well, the two most famous sane ones (which excludes Ron Paul)

look up McCain’s stands on ethanol subsidies, the medicare druge entitlement expansion, pork spending (it’s not just earmarks he fights)

don’t throw your vote away on a lunatic like Barr. I used to live in GA, and trust me, Barr is nuts.

funky chicken on November 1, 2008 at 11:51 PM

Speedwagon82 at 11:41 PM-

…racist?

By Barry’s own race-emphasizing and ethnicity-loving logic:
he’s only half black, so half of the black votership shouldn’t vote for him. (And, in conjunction, there are just as many racially-clinging whites, by his formula, who shouldn’t vote for his black half.)

If Obama can only unify the racist vote, he can guarantee his own defeat.

And make Michelle O. proud… of his fierce urgency of authenticity, or something.

That was a terrific idea for mcCain to reach out to hispanics by trying to get all the illegal ones legalized. That cost poor mccain politically but they appreciated it and didnt forget how he continuously mentioned the hispanic names on graves of brave soldiers who died in the iraq war. It was beautiful and they will never forget how he went against his party and was a maverick and stuck up for the poor disadvantages illegal hispanics:

Polling data: 78% hispanics voting Obama.

With the risk of being considered a troll I must say that sooner or later the GOP will have to make some steps to reach out to the hispanic population that is very rapidly growing. Look what is happening in Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico. If they will tend to stick to the democrats because the GOP “hates them” we can say for sure that the future is looking bleak for the republicans. No offense here. We’ll have to think about this after McCain gets elected. And if you think that Obama and the democrats are not going todo everything they can to get as many hispanic votes as possible you are wrong.

That person may exist, and if he/she does I would like to know who they are.

Plus there is Palin, a proven reformer at the state level, extremely high approval ratings, cut spending, gave rebates back to the citizens of Alaska, fought corruption including those in her own party (something Pelosi or Ried can never claim).

Cast your vote as you choose, but since you posted what you did, please explain how Barr is better than McCain or Palin on GOP issues.

Bob Barr adopted the LP party position on border enforcement, which means none.

End the war? How, exactly, does one “end the war?” That’s frankly one of the dumbest things said by the Obamabots, and now by you. My husband is an Air Force pilot, deployed to the sand box right now. You don’t just wave a magic wand and “end the war.” Our guys are interwoven with the Iraqi people trying to rebuild their country. You “end the war” and you get a hell of a lot of our people killed, because the enemy will get real energized.

Barr is a lunatic who is a laughingstock in his former congressional district.

Either you are an astroturfer or a fool. If you are just a fool, there is a cure for that. The cure involves talking with military officers or non-commissioned officers about “ending the war” being like shutting off a light.

Google the Libertarian Party platform position on border enforcement and illegal immigration.

If you vote LP, you endorse their position on border enforcement, which is that there should be none.

That was one of the funniest things I’ve seen on SNL in a long time. Who knew Ben Affleck had talent?

One more reason to vote McPalin 2008!

God bless, f.c.

OK…the trolls got us to throw the mud ball.

Woulda, coulda neener-neener-neener. Leave that to the Paulbots, Barbots and Greenbots. What we need is a fighting chance. Johnny gives that. Obama will ‘listen’ then wave his hand and make his ruling.

You all can offer up your complaints to the National Security Corps.

Palin is alright, but she’s being corrupted by Bill Kristol’s ilk.

Support this claim.

What I mean is that she’s touting Bush’s exact same foreign policy. I was hoping that she would be less hawkish, since I’m against the war.

I get the feeling that she started off as a blank slate on foreign policy, and McCain’s neoconservative advisers saw her as an opportunity to create a new Bush and pounced on her.

The pills are kicking in. You’re making some sense.

Google the Libertarian Party platform position on border enforcement and illegal immigration.

If you vote LP, you endorse their position on border enforcement, which is that there should be none.

This cannot be repeated often enough.

Spirit of 1776 on November 2, 2008 at 12:13 AM

Barr definitely has the conservative position on immigration, unlike McCain.

Take some more painkillers, Roger. Ten or twelve should be sufficient.

Um, as a practicing doctor I would recommend taking at least 60.

Friends, there’s no need to fear. Underdog is here.
The last time a team from Philadelphia played in the World Series in a presidential election year was 1980. The Phillies won. The Republican (Ronaldus Magnus) won.
The Phillies played in the World Series this year. They won. The Republican (McPalin) is gonna win.
Have faith, gang.

And about ZERO chance of getting elected. But go ahead and vote your conscience, moron.

WTF…goody for you, you’re against the war. You and Barack H. Obama. Did you stand in front of a bunch of people who didn’t give a damn and tell them your views like he did?

We are there. For the love of God, we need to allow these brave men and women to finish the job.
Sarah Palin is a patriot. She doesn’t want to see another Vietnam where shitheads with nothing to do but smoke dope and f*ck were spitting on returning veterans.
So, shut the hell up and either vote for the cause or just plain STFU! No one wants to hear your mealy mouthed crying that you were against the war. Just shut up.

Joe the Plumber vs. Joe the Bummer.

Heh.
