Gallup: Obama now leads by 10 among both traditional and “expanded” likely voters

Zog says McCain +1, Gallup says Obama +10, and Rasmussen splits the difference. Whatever happens, someone’s getting their face rubbed in a pile of warm shinola on Wednesday morning. Nate Silver thinks he knows which one it’ll be. We’ll do more of this on Monday, but here’s CNN’s interactive electoral vote feature in case you want to try mapping out scenarios. As things stand, McCain has to take all six toss-up states plus Pennsylvania plus one other state to win.

Let’s enjoy the left’s suffering now, while we can.

“Look, I have this sense of impending doom; we’ve had a couple of elections stolen already,” Mr. Downs said. “The only thing worse than losing is to think that you’re going to win and then lose.”

He considers that prospect and mutters, almost involuntarily, “Oh, God.”…

Ms. Kuhlman shakes her head and says, “If he doesn’t get this, I’ll be crying so hard.”

A young woman, Shana Rosen, walks by. She is from Denver and said she had told her boyfriend that their love life was on hold while she sweated out Mr. Obama’s performance in Colorado. Ask Lucy Slurzberg, an Upper West Side psychotherapist, how many of her liberal patients speak of their electoral fears during their sessions, and she answers: “Oh, only about 90 percent of them.”…

For many liberals, the chance to elect Mr. Obama, who would be the nation’s first black president, gives the United States a second chance to walk across the stage of world history. (Which also makes the possibility of his loss unspeakably more depressing; given his present lead in every poll, many liberals fear that race will explain any defeat.)

I offer you your optimistic metaphor of the day. No explanation necessary.

In fact, if Obama wins this, I will NOT fly my flag any longer. I will de-install my flag pole from my yard.

Johnny, Obama will NOT win. But if in the more distant future a such a situation comes to pass, I hope you won’t consider that idea again. Keep our flag flying.

My apartment is right next to Grant Park. McCain better pull this off or I’m going to go insane hearing the crowd hail their new Marxist overlord on Tuesday.

phronesis on November 1, 2008 at 3:27 PM

My office is right across the street on Michigan Ave .. live not too far away in the gold coast .. and you’re right. Obama wins this thing and the roars are gonna’ be hell.

On the other hand .. we win and I doubt there’ll be a more satisfying area in which to head out donning a McCain/Palin t-shirt.

Incidentally .. I’m part owner of a company called Arts Entertainment, LLC. Have a recording studio in the Fine Arts Building across from Grant Park on Michigan Avenue.

If anyone’s interested, there are live pan/tilt/zoom webcams that will be pointed at the area on election day ..

Good feeds .. pretty clear and very smooth .. take a look if you can stand it … just click on the “live webcams” feed at the top of the page.

Sorry guys, but that Gallop poll has convinced me it’s all over. My hopes had been rising lately only to be crushed by that damn poll. Obama will win.
But it won’t stop me from voting. It’s a question of damage limitation. Preventing a filibuster proof Democrat senate majority is as important as defeating Obama. We may not achieve the latter but the former is possible.

I’ve got a friend…First person I’ve EVER known to actually be polled! …She says that she told them that she was voting for Obama, and dem ticket all the way.

Some amazing news from internal GOP polling.

Marsh on November 1, 2008 at 4:09 PM

I found this from Hannity’s forum about this radio broadcast:

“Yes, that was Jim Quinn on 104.7 Pittsburgh. The stuff he puts out there is usually way ahead of even other talk shows.

His show is Quinn and Rose (she’s been on Fox)

He can also be heard on XM (America’s Morning Show?) Not sure of channel.

This is their website: http://warroom.com/“

Marsh on November 1, 2008 at 4:10 PM

Can you imagine? If McCain loses he will have lost to the political kin of those who broke his body and beat his a$$ for years in a Viet Nam prison camp. I wonder if he realizes this.

More info on Jim Quinn:

“Quinn and Rose have been fighting the good fight on America’s Morning Shows for over 12 years. Broadcasting from their undisclosed War Room location, somewhere in the heartland, the show combines compelling discussion of popular issues with high production values and an irreverent attitude, presented at a pace that demands attention.

Jim Quinn is one of America’s most tenured and successful broadcasters. His 30+ years career has taken him from Cleveland to Buffalo, New York City, Pittsburgh and more. Despite his extraordinary experience you’ll never hear Jim dwell on the past. Our best days lie ahead and as we hurdle forward our fearless leader keeps a sharp eye on the present and future of us.”

I suppose there are plenty of pointy headed elitists that would like to get out a bunch of important looking spreadsheets and try to show me the depths of my faulty logic but…

I simply do not believe the premise of the polls. All of them assume that republican turn out will be much lower than ‘04, and democrat turnout will be much higher.

As I look around for indicators that they are correct, I’m unable to find them. They can espouse historical paradigms & statistical infallibility from now till Tuesday.

They’ve been wrong many, many times before. They’re still wrong.

Dorvillian on November 1, 2008 at 4:15 PM

Can McCain win without the libertarians and the paleocons voting for him?

MedSchoolCatholic on November 1, 2008 at 3:14 PM

The Libertarians not voting McCain got convinced by one too many spliffs with their liberal buddies that all it takes for the Libertarians to become a major party is the death of the GOP. However, I think they are a minority of libertarian-minded people. Most libertarian-minded folks are voting McCain as the lesser of two evils.

So-called “paleocons” are also rare than hens’ teeth, and are often more worried about fluoridation thna taxation.

AZfederalist on November 1, 2008 at 4:17 PM

How does one have the same margin in ‘traditional’ and ‘expanded,’ when ‘expanded’ supposedly factors a larger percentage of Democrat turnout?

That alone should make this number highly suspect.

clemycali on November 1, 2008 at 4:10 PM

A majority of Americans are not stupid. We realize that the media is biased. Why do you think Palin consistently outdraws Obama and Biden combined? The only time Obama has gotten an extremely large crowd was when he was in Missouri recently and that was no accident seeing as though he was right next his own thug state of Illinois.

I think the reason Obama is not coming back here to Ohio is because he knows he can’t win Ohio. Obama’s crowds here in Ohio were absolutely pitiful compared to Palin’s.

You are really funny. I bet you are a dem. Reps are pumped up. I have never seen republicans this pumped up in a while. I live in Brookline, the heart of liberal-land in Boston, and I have noticed a big change in what is going on. I have met a couple McCain voters too…and people are enthused. Random people who you wouldn’t believe.

At a party yesterday, they actually didn’t want to say anything cus they assumed I was voting Obama as I’m a black guy. but after they make a couple of comments and I agreed with them, they pulled me aside. I told them I was on board, and we had a big laugh at all the liberals who thought we were with them…lol. They said they have many friends who just keep quiet, and not say anything.

That’s the MO of McCain supporters…keep quiet and not say anything, and shock the world. Let’s get out the vote on Tuesday, people. I know mine won’t count, cus I live in liberalland, but if there are this many McCain voters here, I know things are lokking up. McCain will get more than 45% of the vote in MA…mark my words. These people are undercounting McCain voters, cus they are just keeping quiet, or refusing to talk to pollsters.

Folks, professional statisticians know with a whopping average 15% 80% refusal-to-respond rate, these polls are utter crap!

*

The Obamatons are motivated with religious zeal to answer the pollsters, to shout from the rooftops the coming of the Obamessiah, to evangelize and proselytize for The One.

*

Most normal Americans don’t want to be bothered by a pollster, especially in this very unique election season. Most are content to quietly express their will on election day, a will that very few dare to speak out loud.

Trust me, It’ll be McCain in a landslide. I have no doubts whatsoever.

Terrye on November 1, 2008 at 4:51 PM

Hannity didn’t turn me off because he fought to save Schiavo, he turned me off because he FAILED to save Schiavo.

What would you have wanted to be saved:a woman that was practically in a vegetative state? Ask yourself:would you like to live like this?
It was sad that the Congress tried to intervine in a domestic problem.

Independents hate Cheney’s guts, so to dust him off with 3 days to go means McCain is worried about losing the base.

I don’t think that McCain really wants Cheney’s support. And he has much more dignity than some conservative pundits that wrote him off already hoping to have a good time during an Obama administration.

Don’t be so sure. ACORN probably registered him 50 times.

Go over to Wizbangblog.com and read DJ Drummond’s excellent analysis of the polls in his archives. The last two weeks have been enlightening and has kept my BP down. McCain is doing better than these polls would let you believe!

sheriff246 on November 1, 2008 at 4:54 PM

I don’t know who will win. I make no predictions. But one thing is for sure, the polls have been so volatile that someone will have to be wrong.

And even if Obama wins, there will be another election in not so long. And since so many of his people are expecting all sorts of free stuff, they may very well be disillusioned by the next go around.

I talked to a woman the other day who is expecting, cheap gas, free health care and lots of high paying factory jobs. I told her that I had my doubts that any of that would ever happen no matter who wins.

I am an American. I pay taxes to by county, state and federal government, here in America…you do not. I have relatives who fought in every American war {including the Revolution} and served in every branch of the US military…you have not. I am an American, you are not. Unless of course you have been lying about that. So why don’t you go bother some Romanians or Egyptians or Poles or something and leave us alone?

Some polls have Obama easily winning states 51-57. I don’t think I should bother voting with that kind of support for The Obama out there.

aikidoka on November 1, 2008 at 4:55 PM

Also remember that hillbuzz post by “sarah”–the use of psy-ops by the Obamamistas to demoralize and dispirit the opposition by manipulating the polls. DON’T BUY IT! The only poll that counts is on Nov. 4–so show up and bring a friend or 10 or 20 or however many you can.

Heh.

Yeah, it’s going to be difficult for McCain to overcome those electoral votes! McCain may come in at 270+, but with the 114 electoral votes from those states for Obama, ouch!

Just a couple more days of reading this idiots posts…after the election, he will be gone.
So I ask you, how much is Obama campaign paying you, what do you get for posting?
And if you are not paid, doesn’t that piss you off that others are getting paid for doing what you are.
But then, what amount of money would it take to for someone like you to be humiliated, embarrassed, ridiculed, and just generally made fun of.
You are a foolish person to think that anyone posting here can’t see that you are just a poor pathetic, liberal kid, trying to make a buck.
Just a couple more days of your posting, then you will be gone…good riddance fool.

right2bright on November 1, 2008 at 5:00 PM

I looked at the electoral map by Rasmussen and it doesn’t look good for McCain. He has locked up only 160 electoral votes with Virginia and Colorado solid blue and obama at 5 points distance in Arizona.
On the other hand Zgoby’s poll is up again on Drudge. It’s really crazy.

clemycali on November 1, 2008 at 5:02 PM

Dave is just a moron, come election day he will be sitting there with one hand in his pants and another in a bowl of popcorn, drooling and twitching and muttering to himself.

The state polls have always seemed to lag by a week, so i think that they are probably useless this close to the election.

phronesis on November 1, 2008 at 5:05 PM

picture him spewing venom and filled with disdain for the racists who dared to deny him his preordained coronation. He will threaten (in his nuanced way, of course) to make us pay.

IrishEi on November 1, 2008 at 3:50 PM

Yep. He’ll implore the masses to “resist the urge to violence”. And that will be the code phrase to begin rioting.

csdeven on November 1, 2008 at 5:05 PM

clemycali:

No one as actually locked up any electoral votes until we do vote. These are just projections. Something I have noticed is that if you look at electoral projections, there is almost as much volatility there as in the other polls. I do not doubt that Obama is ahead in all these projections. The thing is it will all depend on who actually votes. And I am just not sure how that will turn out.

This has been a weird election.

Terrye on November 1, 2008 at 5:05 PM

I’ve got a friend…First person I’ve EVER known to actually be polled! …She says that she told them that she was voting for Obama, and dem ticket all the way.
She is a diehard conservative and would NEVER vote for Obama.
That made me laugh.

bridgetown on November 1, 2008 at 4:07 PM

I was polled in 1992. The questions were very biased toward democrats. When I pointed this out citing academic research methods, and did not give the correct answers, the polster hung up on me.

Right_of_Attila on November 1, 2008 at 5:06 PM

clemycali on November 1, 2008 at 5:02 PM

With 9% not decided, what poll could be accurate…but if they can’t decide on Obama, when they walk into the booth, they will always vote for the status quo, they will vote for McCain the known entity.
Remember, if Obama did win, and fill out his term, that 4 years will be the longest he ever held a job…amazing.

right2bright on November 1, 2008 at 5:06 PM

Janos:

He is a Canadian too, which means unlike me he can not legally vote.

either orr on November 1, 2008 at 5:07 PM

Admit it, gang… these WILD polls only exsist to offer claims of
‘foul play’ once our McPalin ticket wins.
“That can’t be !! All the polls said … !! RECOUNT !!”

pambi on November 1, 2008 at 5:09 PM

I predict this is Gallup’s last attempt to demoralize us. Look for their poll to tighten in the next 3 days so they won’t be completely embarrassed when McCain wins. Sat, Sun, and Mon, the poll will get down within the margin of error so they can say they were correct no matter who wins.

ZzzzDad on November 1, 2008 at 5:09 PM

clemycali on November 1, 2008 at 5:02 PM

Look…unless things have changed drastically, the early voter turnouts aren’t swinging Obama’s way. The voters he has been counting on are turning out in about the same–or in even less numbers–for early voting as they did last time. Republicans are turning out in equal or near equal numbers to Democrats, and not every single Democrat is going to be voting for Obama. These pollsters have all been bought and paid for by Obama–all. The reason why you’re seeing this big Gallup number is that the Obama people are trying to restore that aura of inevitability and invulnerability they have been carefully cultivating. Don’t believe it! 80% non-responses…wildly skewed poll weighting…bought and paid for pollsters who are ideologically in tune with Obama to begin with.

The only poll–national and state–that matters is the one on November 4. Just do what you can to get others to vote for McCain and remember to respond to that poll on November 4 and leave the rest to God’s hands. That’s all any of us can do in the end.

Matt Helm on November 1, 2008 at 5:12 PM

Whatever nationality I am, at least I know who the Canadian Prime Minister is. Palin doesn’t.
