Seriously, isn’t goptrust coming up with some Wright ads? It’s raised $6M to $7M. The ads are supposed to run in battleground states. They may be pulling the trigger on them on Sunday during NFL games.

It would be dangerous precedent for McCain to go after Obama’s religion. He cannot do this because there is another nine hundred pound religion in the room that must be shielded and unquestioned too.

I have a hard time with this line of reasoning. To me, Reverend Wright has nothing to do with Obama’s religion, but everything to do with his character and judgment.

I may not be following your logic because I’m Roman Catholic… our Church (with a big C) is so centrally-organized that what happens in an individual parish (church with a little c) can be readily compared to Church teaching (from Rome). If a priest runs his parish in a way inconsistent with Church teaching, then he’s a bad priest… but it doesn’t say anything about the religion of Roman Catholicism.

With that frame of reference, when I see something like Reverend Wright’s church it seems to me there’s one of two things. Either (Option 1) the church (parish) is basically fine, teaching Christian doctrine that most other Christians would recognize and approve of (on some level), and Reverend Wright is just a “bad reverend” OR (Option 2) Reverend Wright is the spiritual leader of the church to such an extent that the church/parish Obama attended reflected his beliefs (in other words, whoever happened to be presiding over a service on a given day would reflect the beliefs that we know Rev. Wright espouses).

Now if it’s Option 1 and most of the ministers at that church were ok and only Wright preached hate from the pulpit, then why didn’t Obama choose a different minister from that church to marry him, baptize his kids, and advise him?

If it’s Option 2 and the entire parish, including all of its ministers, reflected the beliefs Wright preached, then why did Obama belong to that parish? As I understand it, Governor Palin did switch churches when the one she had been attending started preaching things with which she wasn’t comfortable. Why didn’t Obama?

Again I agree, McCain needs to stay on a policy message… redistributive taxes, energy, etc. But the Ayers-Wright issues shouldn’t be dropped; they should be hammered home by surrogates.

Ayers, wright, etc are all for income redistribution, socialism, reparations, etc. Obama is surrounded by and has mentored from many people sharing similar ideologies. If he hangs with socialists who can’t wait to change everything about this country, it’s likely he feels the same way. That’s why they matter.

I have to explain it again.

The blowback on McCain for attacking a guy who isn’t preaching anymore in a church Barack Obama isn’t attending anymore would be staggering. There has never been a video surface that definitively shows Obama sitting in the pews when Wright damned America. Obama says he never heard any of this stuff.

John McCain has never been known for his own religiosity either. He isn’t comfortable talking about his own beliefs. How could he be a credible attacker of someone else’s?

I also think McCain made a strategic decision to attack Obama where he least expected it. Obama’s camp expected attacks about Rev. Wright and probably spent some serious dough on polling, ads, and messaging to fight such an attack. All that was wasted.

This election was never going to be won or lost by attacking Rev. Wright. It’s red meat to the base and that’s all.

Talk about suspension of disbelief, lol. I guess in the liberal land of la la logic,as long as there was no video of McCain at a white supremacist church during sermons containing hate speech, it would be A-OK if he went to such a church, lol. Seriously, do you folks really buy into the ridiculous nonsense you spew? I guess if Obama was a drug dealer for 20 years, “the blowback would be staggering” if the McCain camp mentioned this now since Obama stopped dealing drugs a year ago, because it was costing him votes, lol.

If Obama knew what was going on in that church and still went, it doesn’t matter whether he was there during the hate sermons, though one would have to detach from reality to believe never was. And if he didn’t know what was going on there, do we really want someone so clueless in charge of this country?

80% of voters don’t even know who Wright is. If Obama voters like you thought it was such a loser, you’d be begging McCain to use it. Instead, you attempt to convince folks to drop it.

As a fan of your comments, I’d qualify this one. I’d agree the election was never going to be won or lost [mainly] by attacking [Obama's following of] Wright, but the remaining undecideds today, one in seven voters by some counts, are likely still leery of Obama, and Obama’s track record of radical affiliations is the kind of stuff that troubles them.

Obama’s ad about taxes… the one directing people to a website where they can calculate their (supposed) tax breaks… would be effective for undecided voters. As usual, it’s misleading and it implies that the Heritage Foundation has endorsed his tax plan.

McCain needs to salt in some practical, fact-based ads like that one. He may be doing it — I’m in California so I see very few ads.

RNC or similar group needs to run ads about the dangers of giving Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Frank, and Reid the keys to all branches of government.

This is a brilliantly run campaign. He’s not trying to satisfy us, the conservative base. He had us wrapped up as soon as we saw Wright and Ayers. Now he has to convince the independents to his side and he’s doing it as carefully and precisely as he can. Using Wright won’t work now. He’s got to hammer home the “risky” theme because people are jittery and “risky” isn’t what anyone wants to vote for.

Anyone who thinks he’s not fighting with all his might isn’t paying attention, or they are letting their own anger against McCain blind them to reality.

Does anyone really believe that McCain would knowingly give money to a former member of the PLO? Does anyone really think McCain would knowlingly give money to former terrorists or associate with them?

Now apply the same standard to Obama. Answer: Hell yes! He has a history of doing just that!

No one has suggested that McCain had a close personal relationship with this guy or has had a close relationship with any other terrorist. In fact, McCain was simply part of an organization who gave money to this guy’s organization. Bill Ayers is a prime example of how radical leftist douche bags game the system, receive money from mainstream organizations and use the money against the very ideals of the people who have given them the money.

By contrast, Obama had a close personal relationship with Khalidi and obviously would have known his personal views on such topics as Israel.

Moreover, McCain never sat through a party in which participants got up and blasted Israel. Obama obviously was not sufficiently bothered by what he heard to get up and leave. If it is not a big deal then release the tape so we can see the discomfort on Obama’s face when the comments were made.

Maybe Obama caught a ride to the party with Bill and Bernadine and as a result couldn’t leave early. Who the Hell knows but there is a pattern and practice of hanging out and making common cause with radicals. Sanchez is either an idiot, a partisan or a partisan idiot and the evidence suggests the later.

The above is from Wright’s September 11th “sermon.” He clearly believes Israel is a terrorist nation.

From what I can tell (based on a speech Obama gave in the Senate in 2006 in which he refers to his 5 year old daughter), one of Obama’s daughters was born in 2001. Obama had Wright baptize both of his daughters. He later involved Wright in the family’s conversation about Obama running for President.

I’m sorry, it is simply not credible that Obama did not know of Wright’s hatred for Israel.

Whether Obama and/or Michelle sat in that church each Sunday and heard particular sermons does not matter. Obama clearly chose to associate closely with Wright for over two decades. Wright presided over his wedding, baptized his kids, and advised him on political decisions. I am prepared to believe that Wright has influenced Obama’s world view at least as much as Ayers… particularly since their relationship only ended 6 months ago.

Because Wright was an issue during the Democrat primary, many swing voters and independents are not fully informed about Obama’s close relationship with him.

I accept that McCain does not want to go after Obama over Wright. Personally, I think it’s because he does not want Palin attacked over the Pentecostal church she attended. But, I am glad that 527s are picking this up. I hope that a religiously-affiliated 527 runs ads Saturday night through Sunday night. Let people on their way to and from church reflect on the spiritual leader Obama chose to guide him and his family.
