Video: The obligatory “man wires campaign sign to shock thieves” clip

A rare case of the book being better than the movie. Sample quote: “They were troubled, she said, that someone had apparently decided to claim the corner on behalf of the Republican Party.” In an article chuck full o’ weirdness — note the description of the guy shocking himself in front of the reporter — surely the weirdest part is this: He Tivo’d the kid getting caught in the act.
Which is not to suggest this is the weirdest story out there about people flipping out over signs. Not by a long, long, long shot. Click the image to watch.

I can’t help it.
There’s a lot of resistance here.

hawkdriver on October 30, 2008 at 10:54 PM
lol. The kids father says he was looking to see how the sign was put together so he could make his sign the same way. Well kid, it was a tamper proof sign so make sure you include that in your blueprint for your sign ok? Have your daddy pick ya up a nice neon sign transformer at the sign shop.
johnnyU on October 30, 2008 at 10:54 PM
I won’t disagree with that. If the dad encouraged law-breaking then that is very bad.

Yep. A liberal stronghold that never even blinked after the Duke LaCrosse kurfluffle, where the good citizens hung those boys out to dry and when it turned out they were innocent, not a whimper of an apology. Just like that douche Murtha. Liberals never apologize. They just roll in like vermin, create destruction and move on to their next targets.
pistolero on October 30, 2008 at 10:56 PM
Ok, I’m never coming back to this thread.
MirCat on October 30, 2008 at 10:56 PM
He did get grounded… when he shocked himself. One has to be the “ground wire” in order to get shocked by electric.
:)
Mcguyver on October 30, 2008 at 10:57 PM
Yeah, the whole idea that the kid went off to a neighbors yard to see how to put up “his” Obama sign rather that just asking his father is what has me amped up. Is that still his current story?
hawkdriver on October 30, 2008 at 10:57 PM
This seems to be a hot topic.

You don’t suppose that kid and his Dad are trying to suppress the volt in that neighborhood do you?
hawkdriver on October 30, 2008 at 11:07 PM
He really switched the subject didn’t he?
hawkdriver on October 30, 2008 at 11:09 PM
Electrocuted? All I saw was a little shock. You can get worse by scraping your feet across the carpet in the winter.
If you want a rational response, start with rational language. Skip the ridiculous hyperbole.
I’ll agree it’s a shame, though, that the kid got shocked, when it was the parents who almost certainly put him up to it.

Good for him! And who the h*ll is the leftist who got a 9-year-old to do his dirty work for him? He should get the media’s “Joe the Plumber” treatment: investigate his entire life, and publicize it.

hawkdriver on October 30, 2008 at 11:59 PM
And everyone knows that nine-year-old boys often try to steal signs promoting presidential candidates while hold a banner of the opposing candidate in their hot little hands. Out of the blue does this type of caper often sprout up in their little nine-year-old minds! Because nine-year-old boys would rather be doing that sort of thing than, say, dropping a lizard down the back of a female classmate’s dress or something.
Sheesh.
baldilocks on October 30, 2008 at 11:59 PM

Those children are very sophisticated up that way! No time for lizards when there’s politics a-foot.
hawkdriver on October 31, 2008 at 12:03 AM
What a shocking story. Was that kid wearing an AC/DC shirt?
I hope the sign owner isn’t charged, but that kid needs to be grounded. I bet his dad zapped off a not so positive yet energetic email to discuss his negative situation with someone in charge. Alternatively, it might make sense for us to send a battery of messages to local law enforcement voicing our support for the sign owner.
I am revolted by the fact that the sign owner had to resort to such a well-grounded solution to protect his signage. Maybe I’ll send a few Benjamin Franklins to the man to cover his potential legal costs. I wonder if he is current with his taxes, and to what capacity he will have to resist the press.
I could go on, but I’ve had a long Faraday. ;-)
cannonball on October 31, 2008 at 12:05 AM
…a few Benjamin Franklins…
Phenomenal! How did we miss that one? lol
hawkdriver on October 31, 2008 at 12:07 AM
Didn’t you see the episode where the Beav, Lumpy, and Whitey went out and tried to tear down Dewey’s signs. That happened all the time.

Pun-o-rama!
baldilocks on October 31, 2008 at 12:10 AM
I hope the kid shows re-Morse for the violations of the codes he broke.
profitsbeard on October 31, 2008 at 12:13 AM
Thank you all that this once threadjacked thread got back on track. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good joke and properly placed pun as much as the next guy, but we need to be cautious that we don’t take the bait of an obamabot who has been commissioned to distract his opponents. Especially in this late hour.
Focus, people. It’s time to man battle stations, make calls, knock on doors. Electricty jokes are all well and good in the proper context, but this ain’t the time.
This trojan horse must not only be left outside the gate, it must be burned with the the hidden soldiers inside it.
Don’t let yourselves have the depressing feeling that you could have done more after Obama is elected, but now we’re marching off to the reeducation camps. You know. The camps that Ayers described and described in detail that some recalcritrants will need to be exterminated.
This ain’t no freakin’ game!!

I’ll lighten up on Wednesday, if I’m not furiously divesting my assets and trying to navigate the new, unfriendly landscape. In the meantime, I’m sporting a chronic migraine, drinking a bit more than I should, commenting a bit more than I should and thinking that generally, outside of some of the good friends here, the country has gone bug shi’ite, moon barking mad.

Yes, the Obamic terrorists stole my lawn sign also..
I put new ones up the next day though.
SaintOlaf on October 31, 2008 at 1:46 AM
Now, why couldn’t the kid pee on the sign like a normal liberal would?
He’d kill two birds with one stone. He’d learn about electrical currents, and he’d prepare himself for his future as one of the neutered castrati.
Black Adam on October 31, 2008 at 5:45 AM
up the voltage!

I slather the sign frames with Tree Tanglefoot.
Non-lethal, non-shocking and guaranf*ckinteed to ruin the remainder of your day and whatever you touch after you realize the sign is now stuck to you and there’s some real damn sticky sh*t all over your person.
