Here are the percentage of tax payers in 2006.

Top 1% $388,806 39.89
Top 5% $153,542 60.14
Top 10% $108,904 70.79

So, it is reasonable to say that the jump from top 10% of payers at $100,000, to top 3% at $250.000 is about 20% of all payers.

According to Heritage Foundation the Government took in $1.2 Trillion dollars in individual income taxes last year. So, Obama found $240 billion dollars by going from $250,000 to $150,000.

Part of this is due to a mix-up of terms, but I’m not going to exude much sympathy for a campaign that practically made its summer accusing John McCain of wanting a “100-year war” in Iraq. The cutoff for taxincreases was $250,000, while those below $150,000 would see a tax cut. That would leave those in between at the existing rate, or so Obama claims.

Not exactly. Wouldn’t they get sacked with an increase when the Bush tax cuts sunset in 2010?

Not to mention increased capital gains taxes — Obama has been clear that he’s going to raise them. This will be an enormous hit for anyone with retirement savings, or who wants to sell their home or business.

Also increased payroll taxes — Obama has been clear that he’s going to raise the salary cap (currently at $100,000). This will be an *enormous* hit for anyone making $150,000 right now.

Also the “trickle down” of Obama’s large corporate tax increases.

I’ve probably missed a few.

What’s clear in this clip is that neither candidate really seems sure what’s in their own policy.

Here in NV I got to explain to my 12 year old son what “a woman’s right to choose” meant because of an ad that Obama’s running featuring middle aged white women bashing McCain. Thanks Barry. My son was appropriately horrified, but his young life didn’t need that.

For all the last summer, the Prophet Barack has been promising he won’t raise our taxes if we make less than $250,000 per year. Now, just a few days before the election, he lowers it without fanfare to $200,000. Then……

Just like Bill Clinton’s middle-class tax cut, the entire program will disappear once Obama is elected.

Obama, like most other Dims, has rarely ever met a tax hike he didn’t vote for. They should edit this commercial (get rid of the repetition), and include the fact that in the Senate, Obama voted to raise taxes for people making as little as $45,000 a year. Anybody think a $45k income qualifies a person as “rich?”
