Hot Air poll: Who’s going to win?
posted at 12:48 pm on October 30, 2008 by Allahpundit
In which a blogger strapped for content goes gimmicky. Fear not, we’ll have an official predictions thread on Monday. I’m just curious what people are thinking at the moment — and whether I can predict the final results.
My guesses, in order: 55/14/30/<1. Go for it.

Blowback

And here I thought per the DEMS that MCCAIN had locked up the AL QAIDA vote… Guess I was wrong
Jamson64 on October 30, 2008 at 7:25 PM
ManlyRash your setting yourself up for a huge disappointment come election night. It’s not even going to be close. I personally know the feeling, I thought Kerry was going win, and I was so depressed the next day. Before you accuse me of trying to depress the conservative vote, I’m not. Being aware of probable defeat and voting for a losing candidate are not incompatible. Your just going to look foolish the day after the election with your numerous proclamations of certain McCain victory based nothing more then some factual data in your head which you refuse to share with anyone.

Well shave my legs and call me grandpa. For the life of me, I can’t remember making the bet. Doesn’t matter, since J-Mac is gonna take this shit home with change to spare.

Wow… lots of troll bait out tonight. Welcome trolls! We find you endlessly amusing! Dance you under-bridge dwellers! Dance!!!
There, I feel better now. As to the finally outcome of the election? I’m calling it for McCain/Palin. A highly motivated and just a wee bit angry Republican base marching enmasse to the polls along with our gloriously ticked off PUMA allies combined with much lower than hyped/anticipated young/new voter turn out will result in history being made… our first female VP courtesy of the McCain administration. So let it be written… so let it be done.

The polls in like 7 states McCain has to have would have to be wrong for McCain to win. I don’t see it.
WisCon on October 30, 2008 at 7:43 PM
McCain wins with 52% of the popular vote, and
McCain 272
Obama 266
Litigation may drag into December before we’re done.
EasyEight on October 30, 2008 at 7:44 PM
If the Phillies win the World Series, Obama loses the election.
In 1980, they won, and Carter lost to Reagan.

I clicked on the McCain wins button and then started to laugh when I saw that more than 80% of the people voted for McCain. Its like asking a Red Sox fan who is going to win the Sox game…oh no, that is different; most Sox fans will pick the other team…in any event, I thought it was funny for some reason…
RedSoxNation on October 30, 2008 at 7:50 PM
If McCain wins, it will be 272 to 266. I think he wins Ohio, Missouri, Indiana, and Florida. But it is going to be very tough becuase I don’t think he is going to win CO, VA, IA and NM. If this happens, McCain will have to win PA and one other small state (NH or NV) to win at 272. If he does win one of the small states, he loses with 268 electoral votes. That would be tough to take.
RedSoxNation on October 30, 2008 at 7:54 PM
I think McCain will win PA and NV, in your scenario. He may also win VA. Lots of military… plans to cut defense budgets won’t go over well.

I just got home from our Palin rally here in Williasmport PA!
This rally was short notice,, a lot of people only found out a few days before today,, I don’t think it was even announced publicly very much,, my wife just happened to be going by the Mccain Victory Center and say people running in and out so she went in,,it was announced that at least 13000 showed,,, this thing was incredible!!
My friends and I were standing directly in front of the podium!! Not 20 feet away!! Talk about great seats!! I got some great pictures and got to shake her hand and Todd’s hand!!
Utterly fantastic!! People were screaming, cheering and waving and chanting! Just incredible!!
I am telling you!! THIS WOMAN IS FOR REAL!! YOU COULD TELL SHE HAD COMPASSION FOR AMERICA! SHE HAD A LOVE FOR THIS NATION THAT WAS SO EVIDENT!! SHE LOOKED LIKE SHE WAS ALMOST OVERCOME WITH THE EMOTION OF THE CROWD!!!
JUST ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!
IF YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO ONE OF THESE RALLIES YOU GOTTA GO!!

Apologies to Buffalo Springfield…
There’s something happening here
What it is ain’t exactly clear
There’s a man with a sign over there
Telling me I got to go there
I think it’s time we stop, children, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
There’s polling lines being drawn
McCain/Palin’s right ‘n Bambi is wrong
Plumbers speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from Times
I think it’s time we stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
What a field-day for the heat
Ten thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It’s time we stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Paranoia strikes Bambi deep
Into his life it will creep
It starts cause he’s always afraid
You step out of line, The One comes and take you away
We better stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, now, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, children, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down

Hey,,, if you had been there the last 20 minutes,, it was incredible!! We were up front and when she stopped talking,,, she and Todd came down to the barriers where we were and starting shaking hands! I got to shake her hand and “High 5″ Todd,,, but what was great,, there must have been 50 other hands just around my head,, people pressing on me from behind and the crowd shouting “Sarah! Sarah! Shake my hand!! Todd Todd!” Just this complete sea of hands and arms reaching out around me trying to just touch her or Todd,, it was a lot of fun!! Very exciting!! What was great though, too,, even though there were so many people,, there wasn’t this sense of out of control kind of craziness,,, just excitement and enthusiasm like you would not believe!! I really am not a crowd guy,,, I have never been in such a large group of people,, and to be up in front of it and yet feel perfectly fine! It was just a great group of people!

The one bright spot in an Obama victory is that the “N” word will be off the table as a slur. What we all need is an “I voted for Obama” card that we can pull out every time we want to excoriate that African American SOB.

Some of the lame brains here are the same people who will be complaining when they discover their “leader” lied and their lives still suck.
Anyway, I fear that BO will succeed since it appears most Americans voting Dem have little or no ambition and therefore require government guarantees. It won’t be pretty.
One very positive thing I’ve learned about the Democrat party (previously registered Dem) is that they absolutely do NOT care about this country. For the remainder of my life on this planet I will be working to spread the word (there’s so much new material this election) throughout the country that I travel frequently. It will be a very easy sell as the threats pour in from our enemies and the new president has no idea what to do. Bill Ayers dedicated his book to Sirhan Sirhan (Prairie Fire) so maybe he’ll know how to fight his own terrorist kind.
SayWhat on October 30, 2008 at 9:39 PM
What? I assume you’re a troll, in which case you probably don’t realize that Hotair folks don’t refer to anyone as an “African American SOB.” This has never been about race for us, and never will be.
jazz_piano on October 30, 2008 at 9:40 PM
That goes without saying.
Ya know, I’ve had some very exciting prospective days in my life to look forward to. My wedding, my children, etc. And they were all guilt free.
And I feel guilt free that when McCain wins, I wish I was still living in Las Vegas so I could roam the streets of North Las Vegas on the evening of November 5th and the subsequent days following. In my business I did a lot of work in that area and I would have EVERY justification to be there in case an incident occurred that required me to employ the discretionary use of my handgun to protect life. I remember the Rodney King days and missed out on that because my business was centered elsewhere in the city. Those crazy 8astards burned their own neighborhoods to the ground. A target rich environment for sure.

jazz_piano on October 30, 2008 at 9:46 PM
CS,
You’re the dumbest commenter here (next to a few others) if you don’t understand how you proved my point.
You said people are voting for McCain. They’re not. They are voting for Palin.
You, I and others here, went through this line by line, about who would’ve been the best to debate Obama or Hillary, during our discussion in the primaries.
We knew this was probably lost when McCain won.
But here he comes, typical maverick style, with a hail mary pass in selecting Sarah Palin.
Never before in history has a VP DEBATE (of all things) almost upset-by 6,000 – the all time highest rated TV show -last episode of Seinfeld.
So for you to say that people are not voting for Palin, is the stupidest thing you could say, and, as such reflects on the rest of your judgement and comments prior to that, and therefore, I don’t care to ask you a question or hear your opinion on any further subjects.
Period.

AUINSC on October 30, 2008 at 10:09 PM
OK, no problem. you used the word troll and if you knew how long I have been around here you’d know that my comment meant something else.
OK, context. We are all tired of walking on eggshells when it is clear that a minority must be criticized. White guilt is a tool designed to stifle criticism.
My point is that if Obama is elected, then this country is clearly not a racist country and the ability to criticize a heretofore irreproachable minority person will be a common occurrence. As they pull the race card, we now get to pull the “get out of white guilt” card.
My abhorrence to Obama is an issue of character and nothing else. But I will certainly use the “I voted for Obama and therefore get to say whatever I want” excuse from this point forward.
Another silver lining to a dark cloud would be on the issue of reparations. If blacks receive reparations for slavery, then we have effective purchased the right to criticize them with the same vitriol as they criticize whitey.
csdeven on October 30, 2008 at 10:25 PM
Prove it. I’m not voting for Palin because she is only the VP candidate. To vote for her makes as much sense as paying attention to polls.
And by the way, your ad hominem attacks diminish you, not me.
csdeven on October 30, 2008 at 10:28 PM
Sorry, I quoted this remark……
….and meant to quote this remark.
I mentioned no motivation of race.
Why is it racist to want to defend innocent people who lawless thugs are trying kill? I’d suggest you ask Reginald Denny, Fidel Lopez, and some of “The L.A. 53″ how they would feel about a private citizen who took the risk to protect the innocent.

Before McCain introduced Palin. I was going to vote third party. But when he introduced her. That is why I want to vote for McCain. Is because of Palin. It is wonderful to see a fellow woman. Who is intelligent, beautiful, and knows where she stands. She is comfortable with herself. For having all those babies, she looks marvelous. She kept herself up. She had courage to go out herself, and campaign for Mayor. She is real. Wish I could see her. But, You can tell she is real. She knows us more. Can understand. I believe she will fight for us. She is a fighter. Will keep praying and hoping that Sarah will be our VP soon. And McCain as President too! That is what my mind will think until the 4th or the 5th. No troll is going to get me down.

csdeven on October 30, 2008 at 11:03 PM
Those qualities are more important than being a “fellow woman”. They are appreciated by both men and women. It has to do with Palin’s charisma — she can sway voters who would otherwise feel quite comfortable with Hillary’s policy positions. Because her inner (and outer) beauty is enhanced by the way she lives her convictions. Perhaps Obama does too, but his convictions are ugly.
Fortunata on October 30, 2008 at 11:11 PM
The context of “beautiful” was in physical appearance. I know this because the inner beauty qualities were delineated separately.
csdeven on October 30, 2008 at 11:16 PM
80% for McCain?
It means one of two things for the vast majority of the 80% who said that:
1. You’re picking who you HOPE will win, not who WILL win. There’s a big difference.
2. You honestly thing McCain is going to win. Clearly, than, you’re letting partisanship get in the way of objectivity.
And you can all bluster as much as you want. I was on Hot Air in 2006 when people made their predictions for the Mid-Term elections. Although Conventional Wisdom was that the Democrats would take the House, and would pick up seats in the Senate (but not take it over), the vast majority of HA commenters confidently, stridently, predicted the Republicans would hold the House, and probably pick up a seat or two in the Senate. That was when I realized that many, many of those on Hot Air, are simply partisan, and are blinded by that, and have no credibility in objectively assessing a political environment.
Similarly, the fact that 80% think that McCain is going to win is a riot. It would be like 80% on Huffington Post in 2004 thinking Kerry was going to beat Bush. We would have laughed and laughed at those idiots.
And by the way, I’m voting for McCain next Tuesday. I’d love to see him win, and I think the election will be much tighter than predicted, but the numbers right now are overwhelmingly against him.
asc85 on October 30, 2008 at 11:17 PM
I agree with most of RedSox here – except for his choice of baseball teams…… finally, someone that looks at individual states instead of national polls. What a concept!
NBC and CBS will announce Florida for Obama one second after the polls close on the eastern part of the state. They already have exit polls for the state – and they will show no restraint whatsoever. It will be worse and more corrupt than 2000 on the part of the press.
McCain has to have Florida. Otherwise he will have to sweep every swing state plus some more. If he wins Florida and Pennsylvania – it’s his. If Pennsylvania goes to Obama (which I think it probably will) it could be a long long night.
This friggin thing could actually come down to Nevada.
God help us all.

So someone thinks that Palin’s beautiful, and that might incline them more favorably towards her. Big deal. Lots of liberal women I know seem to have a bit of a Mandingo thing going for Obama, although most of the men I know think his wife is James Brown in a dress. No-one has yet owned up to having a crush on McCain (come on, you lurkers!!!), and IMHO Cindy looked better before the botox. It’s sad but true, people prefer the good-looking. Still, this late in the game we are down to a binary choice — A or B — and your endless nuancing of it as though we were still in primaries is irritating, to say the least.
Fortunata on October 30, 2008 at 11:40 PM
Wow, you got a lot of votes racked up AP.
hawkdriver on October 30, 2008 at 11:48 PM
John McCain will be our nation’s 44th President. McCain will win by 8 percentage points in the popular vote, and will take over 300 electoral votes, including Florida, Maine, New Hampshire, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and the south (possibly losing Virginia).
The Republicans will retake control of the House. The Democrats will keep control of the Senate, but their margin will be slimmed. Ted Stevens will lose.
Doubt me? Check the stock market. The market senses it, too.
The troops are staying in Iraq to finish the job. Iran will not get a free pass. The House Republicans will block amnesty. The economy is going to be poor, however.
indythinker on October 30, 2008 at 11:49 PM
I love Sarah Palin. She’s an exciting, rising star in conservative politics and a reformer, to boot! She was a great VP pick and helped this little black duck feel a lot more enthusiastic about voting for McCain.
And, as a woman, I am proud to see another woman succeed in what is largely a man’s world. Sarah being female is not sufficient to garner my vote — I didn’t vote for Hillary — but it does make me extra happy about supporting her.
The posters on this thread who are so concerned about tarnishing conservatism with “identity politics” and feel compelled to tell women supporters of Palin what we’re thinking and feeling are probably men and certainly jerks.
Y-not on October 30, 2008 at 11:58 PM
Beauty and gender are not conservative reasons to vote. If that were the case, Reagan and Thatcher would never have been able to save the world from the Soviets.

I start out in my car tomorrow morning for Polk City, FL for one of Sarah’s rallies on Saturday. It’s a 683 mile drive. But I drive from Huntsville, AL to Clawson, MI to see my 5-year old son so I’m used to the long drives.
They open at 9:00am so I’ll of course be there at 5:00am to get in the early line.
Question: Will 4 hours early be early enough to get a good seat?

Dude, I’d have the same opinion too if the facts/polls/etc. were the same.
However, McCain is making his move and the Hillary Dems in PA are gonna help McCain take that state.
McCain has the momentum back now that Obama’s infomercial is done and it had no meat in it.
I believe McCain will win this thing. He wins an upset in PA, wins OH, FL, NC, MO, NV, but loses NM, IA, and VA. Obama might win the popular and lose the electoral side.
You can see signs of panic by the Obama camp as a lot of doubts are forming in people, especially undecideds. Frankly, Obama is just not experienced enough. Throw in the marxist/socialism, bad connections, and Reverend Wright adds going strong in the battleground states and McCain is going to take this.
Also, the strong showing in national polls by McCain recently will start to be evident in 2 days more due to state polls lagging.
What we are seeing is the customary Republican surge the last week like the past, due mainly to the fact that the Dems are once again fielding a candidate that is just too liberal for American.
If Hillary had won the primary, she would have Obama as VP and then McCain would not have picked Sarah, and the Dems would have won easily.
Mac is gonna pull off the upset because the signs are there. If the signs were not there, I’d be the first to admit that Obama will win. If Obama wins, it will be because McCain’s surge comes a day or two too late to quite take him.

You got a deal.

If God is the ultimate arbitrator with who is a christian and who isn’t, it seems to me that to assume your judgement will be as accurate as the real one is pretentious.
None of these lines seem to give a license to people to say who is ‘the real’ Christian….
Like I said, I am not in Obama’s head. Or in God’s head. But next time you drop by there, tell me what you see.
So essentially, if the only thing you do during the year is pay for your health insurance, you will get money back even if you didn’t pay taxes. This means people will get more from the government than they paid in taxes to the government. (Paid 0, get cash back!)
(See http://www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/23631.html )
Maybe you could have given a link to the post so that it wouldn’t appear out of context. I rarely if ever use comments from Hotair on my blog. I was discussing Ed’s post. That’s a big part of how the blogosphere works. I don’t think you are a bunch of morons. It might be time to start spreading misinformation.

Awesome!
csdeven on October 31, 2008 at 1:29 AM
Thats one way to look at it… but a more correct way, IMO, is that the government is essentialy paying for up to 5000 of the cost of your health insurance… much like they do for people NOW who get health insurance thorugh a company.
We already have a certain amount of sociailized health insurance, this just expands it to those who work for themselves, or for very small companies.

GET READY FOR THE RIOTS!!!
SaintOlaf on October 31, 2008 at 1:42 AM
So you are saying that McCain is doing more “socialism” that we already have?
mycowardice on October 31, 2008 at 1:45 AM
Not sure if this has been posted yet:
Allegedly from a Hillary supporter who joined the Hussein campaign.

Hey! Looks like she’s looked at AP on Hotair!!
Tommygun on October 31, 2008 at 1:48 AM
Ric and Manlyrash,
Even better, why don’t you two go on Intrade and bet each other the same amount of money by doing opposite trades.
Making money while surfing HotAir.. now that’s where the real grove is.
Mcguyver on October 31, 2008 at 1:49 AM
csdeven,
Yeah… you blithely forgot to mention that Palin is more conservative than McCain when discussing her beauty, as a reason to vote for her over McCain.
Like I said, dumbest comment coming from a conservative like you. But if you were drinking, on drugs or off your medication, I might let it pass….
Mcguyver on October 31, 2008 at 1:54 AM
Yes, but at least he’s a socialist… instead of a Marxist like Obama.
Romeo13 on October 31, 2008 at 2:15 AM
Well, I’ll combine your answer with JadeNYU’s answer, and conclude that McCain is a socialist, and Obama is also a socialist. Therefore, it’s basically the same choice, with some fine tuning.
mycowardice on October 31, 2008 at 2:29 AM
When both candidates have socialist tendancies, fiscal conservatives will go for the one that is proposing fewer big budget programs and that can actually name a program he would cut when asked that question in a debate.
I figure if they both think my money is up for grabs, I might as well vote for they guy who will spend less of it.
Of course, the candidates vary much more on other issues. So, unless the economy is your only issue, you shouldn’t have to flip a coin to decide who you’re voting for…
JadeNYU on October 31, 2008 at 2:54 AM
I agree with that. My problem is with the extreme language being thrown around right now where the situation is not quite that extreme. But you’re right, economy isn’t my only issue, and overall I favor Obama.
