Video: New Obama ad goofs on Palin; Update: Ad remixed

A little something to stoke the GOTV fires six days out. Their ad team’s laid off her until now as far as I know; the only spot I can remember her appearing in was one released after she was named, the point of which was to claim that Bush, not Palin, is McCain’s real running mate. The fact that they’re now arguing the opposite shows you how poisonous they think she is to swing voters, backed by the WSJ poll released last week claiming she’s a bigger drag on the ticket than even Dubya. If they’re running this, they can’t be worried about her luring away PUMAs, either. That’s also in line with recent polls showing McCain’s support among Democrats either the same as or only negligibly bigger than The One’s support among Republicans.
Exit question: Time for an 18-minute highlight reel of Biden gaffes as retaliation from Team Maverick?
Update: A reader points to this by way of response.

McCain could do the exact same ad with “Change”. he
Obama made many statements that he wanted a ticket that represented change and the future, not the past. His choice? Joe Biden. 36 years in Washington. NOT the change we need.

Just run an ad with non-stop BHO and Joe O’Blunder gaffes.
If you can afford a four hour ad buy.

That was pretty lame for a guy with Bazillion dollars to spend on advertising…
Wyznowski on October 29, 2008 at 12:09 PM
You know, considering how much they’ve been spending, shouldn’t ads like this be unnecessary, what with the election having already been decided and all?

Mac knows that he does not know. That humility will inspire him to seek out advisors with solid track records of knowing, and rely on their counsel.
Obama is arrogant enough to think that he does know. That makes him dangerous.

Nah, you let her go out Agnew-Goldwater style…
If Team McCain would have pivoted hard on kitchen table issues(health care) right after the convention and had her lead on those in her speeches and varied up those speeches to get a lot of free tv time then they would be in the lead right now…

Attacking Palin will not win him the election…she is the VP.
Internal polling must show she is his biggest threat…

BTW, the reason why Palin may be a drag is because she’s not seen as offering anything new… that’s why the damn policy pivots were so important…

Visit places like Hillary Clinton Forum and you get the impression that (a) either the PUMAs are lying through their faces about their plans; (b) the pollsters are not hitting PUMAs; or (c) the PUMAs are in the hanging-up crowd that the pollsters now appear to be worried about.
Hubris, anyone?

The issue is whether McCain has the judgement to choose advisors who will properly advise him on the economy. A man can’t be an expert on all things, unless you’re “The One”.
More people like Sarah than are admitting in the polls. They should tread lightly on that ground.

OT NC voters beware of voting straight ticket….
And you just thought the “hanging chad” was bad….This is a total outrage….
Subject: DON’T VOTE A STRAIGHT TICKET!
I heard about this on the news the other night. I guess it’s really true.
Snopes says it is. I can’t believe such a glitch exists in the system.
Subject: Don’t Vote a Straight Ticket!
I have been informed by an Obama supporter, that if one votes straight Democrat or Republican ticket at the polls, BEFORE you have voted for the President, your vote for President WILL NOT be counted. If you go to snopes.com, you will see that this is true and it tells you that it’s a good idea to vote for each candidate individually, in any case.
I’m happy to get this info and want to pass it along, since it’s already circulating among Obama supporters.
We need all our Republican votes to count, so I owe a debt of gratitude to the Democrat who “mistakenly” sent the email my way. Thanks!
Even if you know this, others may not, so please pass it on! I think everyone’s vote should count, but ONCE, only!

French President Nicolas Sarkozy is very critical of U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama’s positions on Iran.
Sarkozy views the Democratic candidate’s stance on Iran as “utterly immature” and comprised of “formulations empty of all content.”
….Sarkozy told Obama at that meeting that if the new American president elected in November changed his country’s policy toward Iran, that would be “very problematic.”
…..Sarkozy fears that Obama might “arrogantly” ignore the other members of this front and open a direct dialogue with Iran without preconditions.
*Where is this sort of Sarkozy response ad that hits Obama on Iran and meeting with no preconditions.

End the ad with Joe Plugs waving and grinning and driving off in his 60’s Corvette (yes he drives one).
Mr_Magoo on October 29, 2008 at 12:16 PM
Ive been saying all along Palin doesn’t rub centrists/independents the right way. But with regards to the ad, its really McCain’s goof for hinting that he’d pick a VP who was strong on the economy…instead he picked a VP who’s strong on…hmm…what were her strengths again?
o rite, running a successful statewide campaign in a state with 250,000 less people in it than my suburb of Westchester County…then running said state awash in money with no urban centers or agricultural policy…and the highest per capita rape numbers in the country.
Now, i wouldn’t consider my governor the black blind paterson an expert on finance just because he governs wall st…thus i wont consider Palin an expert on energy because she governs a producing state.
Palin’s fine for hard-right conservatives…but middle of the road types have precious little to see in her, except maybe style. She projects middle america averageness, but i thought style over substance was only how democrats felt about their candidate…

And just how is Barry and Joe any better on economic policies? Last I checked the checkbook for a community organizer was pretty small and other then all the money Joe channels from lobbyists and puts into earmark spending he ain’t exactly no Wall St whiz kid either.
Pretty lame ad.
Of course I guess figuring a way around doing any sort of identity verification on campaign contributions does give us a clue as to how he would fund his $4.3 TRILLION in additional spending he is proposing.
How is Barry going to pay back all that money he spent when the banks come looking for their money from all those fraudulent donors?

You know, this crap pisses me off. Its not even that good an ad, but the very idea that she’s some moron is absolutely ridiculous, especially considering the guy on THEIR ticket. If McCain doesn’t get an ad up soon with the Biden gaffes, then that is tantamount to throwing Palin under the bus. She’s the one I’m voting for in the first place!

The only thing anyone needs to know about Joe Biden is this:
He’s been in the US Senate for 35 years; he was in the US Senate when John McCain was in the Hanoi Hilton, getting the crap tortured out of him every day.
Joe Biden is now in the Top 20 of Longest-serving US Senators…in our entire History!
And you know what his fellow Democratic Senators thing of old Slo-Joe?
He has been selected for NOT ONE “Leadership” position in the US Senate by his peers, in his entire 35 year career!
NOT ONE!
What type of distinguished “leadership” track-record is that?
Why the McCain camp hasn’t hammered that home, is beyond me; but it speaks volumne about what his very own Peers thing about him, doesn’t it?

She may a drag… but if Team McCain didn’t want her to be a drag they should have let her actually lead with some innovative policy while people were looking… even before this stock market crash I was easy to see that this ticket would tank without changes… people were looking for something new… not a puppet…
This election will be won or lost on policy… it’s just stupid to blame Bush, the economy, the media, palin, etc… if there’s anything to blame is is the McCain, his top advisors, and insular republican consultant culture… there’s a total lack of forward looking innovation and the policy that’s good they suck at selling…

ihasurnominashun on October 29, 2008 at 12:34 PM
There you go again Allah, believing in polls that are now looking very tainted, biased or completely wrong. What no Al Jazeera a.k.a CBS/NYT polls? I am shocked I say, shocked! LOL!
Funny how I have read from articles that say Obama campaign people saying they ARE AFRAID OF PALIN. Redstate had one on how they believe they will not know her full impact until it is too late. Another article elsewhere was saying she has been a strong unifier for bringing the Base together with McCain. This according to Dems. You might say big deal, but McCain cannot win without us.
Also, Palin does have good economical and business sense. She has run a state budget and managed to give money back to Alaskans. She also was at one time a Mayor. Is there not a saying that all politics are local? I believe this could apply to this race in that she has owned a business, been a Mayor and Governor and yes, I will even throw in a PTA member. It is the local politics that has given her solid common sense when it comes to knowing how government should work both on a local level, and on a state level, and now on a national level. Just imagine how things nationally might be if the U.S. functioned like the state of Alaska or any town U.S.A. that balances their budget and only spends what they take in!
Attacking Palin is also going to make them look like the MSM that has been treating Palin as a stooge, or village idiot. You might want to consider what the SNL people had to say about Palin when you think about how there might be something to the Democrats actually being afraid of Palin, and quit placing so much stock in those Swiss cheese polls you LOVE so much. LOL!
freeus on October 29, 2008 at 12:34 PM
I do. All that the McCain/Palin campaign has to do is list off the myriad ways that Palin has been a good steward in Alaska, demonstrating economic chops that saved the taxpayers and delivered energy and services. Follow all of those visuals with a Palin wink.
onlineanalyst on October 29, 2008 at 12:35 PM
Palin’s strengths were reform and energy. Energy is much less of an issue now than when McCain picked her. Of course, Biden was supposed to be a foreign policy guru, and that is less of an issue as well. So both VPs best aspects have been diminished.
And could anyone please summarize this ad? I can’t see it at work.
SAZMD on October 29, 2008 at 12:35 PM
For most people, that’s a pro McCain/Palin ad
To commited Obama supporters this must look pretty smart, but to most normal people the fact that McCain says he doesn’t understand economics just makes him human, humble, and sane.
Lets hope they show this everywhere!

They show a few quotes of McCain (in text, not spoken) saying he’s better on foreign policy than he is on the economy, and he’ll choose a solid economic VP. Then they show a clip of Palin winking.
There’s no words, just some background music to go with the pictures of McCain and Palin. I don’t think it’s terrible, but it’s not a good use of money either.
BadgerHawk on October 29, 2008 at 12:44 PM
I hope they give this ad the widest possible release. Kristol at TWS is right that it also gives the McCain camp an opportunity to counterattack through Palin herself.
It shows you how deranged the reaction to her on the left is that they wouldn’t immediately recognize how misogynistic this ad plays: They don’t even give Palin the chance to speak for herself – she’s just “the female,” as though that’s what disqualifies her.
That horrible Obama corporate muzak is really something, too. They used it on a Health Care ad that was playing constantly in California and therefore I would expect nationwide. It’s frightening to think that people who find that stuff appealing are hoping to run the country.

The two largest fears inside the Obama campaign are the Bradley Effect and the Palin impact. According to an article I read last week, they are particularly concerned with the fact she is reaching people across the spectrum and in numbers “they can’t measure”. Much fear there for team Obama. Obviously they now consider that impact larger than the PUMAs. I disagree with AP. I don’t think they consider the PUMA damage small… I think they consider it unfixable. I also think from their internal polling, they obviously aren’t falling for the “Palin’s a drag on the ticket” pablum that AP does. Consequently, there is no danger in trying to knock Palin down… only perceived potential gain.
