Swiped from the boss, whose Palinmania is sturdy enough to weather any storm (except one!).
R.S. McCain is just back from her rally in Pennsylvania and professes himself a 2012 believer. I’m not so sure; see Noam Scheiber at TNR for why the deck is stacked against her. It’s not mission impossible — her name recognition among Republicans will be unrivaled save for Huckabee — but I think Douthat’s onto something about conservatives eventually feeling Obama envy if The One wins and is popular in office, with Jindal the obvious beneficiary.
And wouldn’t you know it, he’ll be in Iowa next month. Get ready.

I would pay to see Palin and McCain rock out to “Rock Band” or “Guitar Hero”.
Pasalubong on October 28, 2008 at 10:07 PM
IMO, Jindal is just too young. Maybe the GOP will be feeling race-jealous, but I’m very doubtful. I think he’d be the perfect age with more than enough experience for a VP nom in 2012 (he’d be 41), but I really don’t think he’d cut it, especially with Palinmania (hopefully) growing steadily over 4 years. He’d have to seriously kick ass as Governor to pass Palin on the excitement level. Do I think that’s possible? Sure. To be fair, I haven’t seen a lot of Jindal, and don’t know how good he is, and a lot can happen in 4 years. Time will tell.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Palin fan. But I just couldn’t stop staring at her hands.

Mr_Magoo on October 28, 2008 at 10:15 PM
Dude! I was at this rally in NC! Everything was awesome (except for the country music!).
The best part though was outside the event. I think I pissed off a bunch of Obama supporters when they realized that a black man was attending a Palin rally (we had a “lovely debate”–someone captured it on film so it may unfortunately end up on YouTube).

I had hoped McCain would not pick Palin for VP. I was hoping for it to be Jindal/Palin 2012. They represent the freshest faces the GOP has seen, well since forever. I believe they would be a formidable duo.

That could be. The impression I got was that she had just had her nails done. It reminded me of that.
p0s3r on October 28, 2008 at 10:21 PM
Yeah, I get that concern as well. However, from what I’ve read, libertarianism sort of comes about naturally in Alaska, so hopefully she’s got that in her blood. I think, as has been said by so many commentators, she really understands the pulse of the people, and people really really don’t like the government right now. Four years of Obama government expansion won’t change that much. Also, she’s had to sort of go along with McCain for most of this, and I don’t think we’ve seen her real stance on a lot of issues. Like I said, time will tell.
jimmy the notable on October 28, 2008 at 10:22 PM
Not to worry. She’ll do fine as VP and will excel as president after her inauguration in 2012.
ManlyRash on October 28, 2008 at 10:23 PM

And saying that, do you get the sense that Palin and Jindal are prime reasons why the lefties are fighting this election so unbelievably dirty and underhanded?
Who is their talent, the warmed-over hacks who populated the DFL stage this year? They grabbed onto Obarfy like drowning rats.

Also…
Wildly impressed with both Jindal and Palin, but no way it’s Jindal-Palin ‘12, or vice-versa. Either one would need an older white guy with long years in Congress from a swing state with gravitas.
How about some out-of-the-box thinking? Palin-Petraeus 2012.

I am playing that song on my iPod throughout the day.
I have been a Jersey girl all my life with Cuban parents.
Crazy that I like country music huh?
I love all music, except rap, but this song in particular speaks to me like all conservative women.
Palin is the personification of the conservative woman, of all conservatives actually, and apparently for PUMAs too!
Isn’t it great we will have a POW, brave American for our President and such a great Vice-President?!

Huck, myself, and all the other true born again, and repentant Christian’s who are living for Jesus… well,… we’ll all be gone before the next Presidential election as a result of the Rapture. I know what you’re thinking after a comment like that okay, but scoff all you want, I’m not joking. The day is coming very soon. Time is running out. I’m just saying that the people you think will be running in 4 years won’t be here. And truthfully, I’m praying you won’t be either (if you know what I mean).

JeffreyLloyd on October 28, 2008 at 11:10 PM
Sure. Of course, we do — they just aren’t as much in the public eye right at the moment.
Consider:
- Mark Sanford (Governor of South Carolina, strong fiscal conservative, six years in the House, six years as Governor, age: 48)
- John Huntsman (Governor of Utah, staffer in the Reagan White House, Ambassador to Singapore, deputy U.S. trade rep., 3 years as Governor, independently wealthy (father worked his way from poverty to billionaire), age: 48)
- Tim Pawlenty, Governor of Minnesota, 6 years as Governor, prosecutor to City Councilman to 10 years as State Legislator, age: 48)
- Matt Blunt, Governor of Missouri, Naval Academy, still Lt. Cmdr. in the Naval Reserve, worked on electoral reform as Secretary of State of Missouri, 4 years as Governor, record as a fiscal conservative — not seeking reelection, age: 38)
And that’s just from our governors born in the ’60’s or later.
Think of the future leaders on their way home from Iraq and Afghanistan…
ClintACK on October 28, 2008 at 11:14 PM
What I’ve seen of Jindal in action has been impressive, but I think he damaged his chances for the top spot when he appeared to side with creationists when he failed to veto the Louisiana Science Education Act this summer. Maybe there’s some nuance to the situation that made his decision a good one, but if so he’ll need to make that clear to pull in ’secular conservatives,’ for want of a better term.
As it stands, I’m more comfortable with Palin’s handling of similar subjects. Maybe it’s just the difference between the two states they govern — I’m sure Jindal has his hands full between the corrupt New Orleans democrats and the religious right — but I think Palin has a broader national appeal than does Jindal.
Y-not on October 28, 2008 at 11:15 PM
Hey… you could be right. But you certainly wouldn’t be anything like the first to be wrong about that.
Might as well keep planning for what you’ll be doing if the apocalypse doesn’t come in our generation.
ClintACK on October 28, 2008 at 11:17 PM
Please, please, please, go look in to her record.
It’s easy to be confused by the weird nature of the oil industry in Alaska — where the oil reserves are owned collectively by the people of Alaska.
But that’s an Alaska thing. Put that aside, and she’s quite good on the economic front.
Really.
Sarah Palin is NOT GWB in in skirt.
ClintACK on October 28, 2008 at 11:21 PM
The idea that we conservatives worry about race as much as the intellectual class says we do is amusing. I could give too shits about it to be quite honest. IDEOLOGY is all that matters to most of us. I personally just can’t stand the idea that a man with such strong socialistic leanings is even running for the presidency of a country founded on individualism! WTFFFFFF…..
As for Jindal I think he should not run for the presidency in 2012 but he should be designated the vice presidency no matter who the republican choice is. If Palin can pick him it would be perfect as the intellectual class will just have to STFU (though may whine about his faith). I can guarantee that none of them is as smart as he is LOL…
My hope is for a Palin/Jindal ticket in 2012 so go figure…
