Swiped from the boss, whose Palinmania is sturdy enough to weather any storm (except one!).
R.S. McCain is just back from her rally in Pennsylvania and professes himself a 2012 believer. I’m not so sure; see Noam Scheiber at TNR for why the deck is stacked against her. It’s not mission impossible — her name recognition among Republicans will be unrivaled save for Huckabee — but I think Douthat’s onto something about conservatives eventually feeling Obama envy if The One wins and is popular in office, with Jindal the obvious beneficiary.
And wouldn’t you know it, he’ll be in Iowa next month. Get ready.

Personally, I think the government should try to stay as far away as possible from the evolution/creationism debate. Simple reason: it’s not their job.
It may seem appealing to get the government to pick one side or the other, but when the government gets involved in one side of a scientific debate, no matter how unjustified you may think the other side is, it has a chilling effect on science.
Goes for global warming, too. And for the premise that homosexuality is genetic, which is also not proven.
Given that, I don’t see why Jindal should bother expending political capital to veto such a law. The legislature passed it; sign it and move on.
I do think Palin is the better choice after the McCain administration ends, but that’s at 4-8 years away, so we’ll see how it goes.

Are you ever happy or satisfied, with anyone, or anything? Just curious, because it doesn’t seem like it. I can always count on a couple of people here to urinate on every possible birthday cake we get. I don’t mean to be personal, lorien, but you’re one of them.
I just wonder…why is that?

I’m having trouble with my daughter, who’s a biologist and reads science blogs saying “Palin’s a young-Earth Creationist” who belittled funding fruit-fly research in a recent speech (fruit flies are the feed stock of genetics research, and the basis of many discoveries, including some that bear on the topic of her speech, autism).
Gov. Palin has clearly modified her views on Creationism since she left the fundamentalist church, and is a smart, teachable pragmatist. But she’s a hard sell to scientists, most of whom are liberals anyway, and even to non-scientists who know that Creationism is bunk.
I pointed out that most politicians have nary a clue about science—witness both Presidential candidates babbling on about global warming (I mean, ‘climate change’). And what’s really important is political ideology: the alternative to McCain-Palin is a Marxist, racist, anti-Semite and his wind-up doll, Joe the Dumber.

Why any of you are talking past November 4, 2008 really questions the intelligent quotient of this site…….
Do you really think that loosing, only maybe to win later, after the Dems take control of the House, Senate, and Executive Branch, loot our 401Ks, implement the “Fairness Doctrine”, fund ACORN and La Raza to Billions a year, open the damn borders in exchange for votes, flood the Judiciary with like minded liberals, replace two to three Supreme Court Justices, keep the CAR/Fanny Mae/Freddy Mac ponzi scheme in place, de-fund the military, flood the schools with Ayer’s type professors to indoctrinate, go after dissenters like “Joe the Plumber” with the IRS and FBI, ……… and you think for a moment being a Republican will not be a crime equal to Racism?
Fornicate with yourself if you want, but don’t invite me……. I am still fighting for THIS election.

Tough spot. If I comment on that, I distract from the original thread, If I don’t I just let one more person belittle my beliefs, which have just as much scientific foundation as his. (Though he is convinced that creationism has no scientific merit.)
Go Sarah!

Besides showcasing her ‘hotness’, how incredibly astute of her to thumb her nose at those pushing the absurd Saks/Neiman-Marcus story by showing up at that rally in blue jeans!!
If somebody would just put her picture in jeans and blazer on uTube right next to the one of Obama in his biking helmet, with Levis hitched up under his armpits, his shirt tucked in and belt cinched tight, I swear it would cost the guy 30% of the college vote.
This was pure political genius. And I’d bet serious money that it wasn’t the idea of any of her ‘handlers’. (In fact, those fools probably tried to stop her from getting on the bus dressed like that.)
My admiration for Sarah ‘Cuda grows each day…

Who invited you?
Some of us are interested in talking about other things as well — even though we haven’t remotely written off this election.
I, for one, am expecting a McCain win next week. I’ve been assuming things like Palin’s VP experience and Chair of the Joint Chiefs experience for Petraeus in my posts.
ClintACK on October 29, 2008 at 12:26 AM
Thanks. I try to be the voice of reality here!
I’m a libertarian republican. That’s what I am.
I don’t like big government republicanism – and I believe that much of social conservatism is exactly that.
I don’t think being stupid on trivial issues gets us far. In the debate, I cringed when 1/2 the candidates didn’t believe in evolution (everyone one of us should have!). I don’t think that opposing gay marriage serves any purpose. Being a joke to the youth on such trivial and generally inconsequential issues do not bode well for the future.
I want a consistent belief system:
government: out of my life, out of my wallet.
Here is the typical social conservative model:
Government: in my life, in my wallet a little bit less than the other guys.
I like Palin better than most politicians. But, let’s be honest, she did come out and support full federal funding for special ed programs (going 10 billion to 40 billion tax dollars) last week. Big government social conservatism lives on in her, unfortunately. Face reality.
Sorry if I spoil your mood. I’m honest in what I want. I have to “settle” for candidates every cycle. Sorry if I can’t hide my disappointment that I’m forced to do so.

Now off to dream of Gretchen singing these lyrics.

No, I was not invited to watching you fornicate with yourself, I will attest to that…
Glad to hear you are on board for a McCain/Palin win, but I actually read the earlier posts, so not to repeat, or react to an argument that has already been addressed………..
I guess I could say I was invited by an old friend, PinkyBigglesworth, who, regretfully is no longer with us……… but I promised him I would carry on the fight. That was my invitation. By the way, where is yours, since you asked for mine………..?
Don’t bother……..
Who are you to question mine, or anyone else’s, my Free Speech rights, as long as I follow the rules of this Blog, you can print on some paper, roll it up tight, and then find something pleasant to do with it…….. I don’t care, but if you want to come at me, then game on…
I only think that we should take Obama out and make sure Sen. McCain is elected as the next President of the United States first, then we can dance…………
Seven Percent Solution on October 29, 2008 at 1:02 AM
Dude, you are wrong. Evolution is not how we got here. I know you have your ‘fossil record’, but other than that, it’s mostly stories made up by scientists to tell a tale that they can’t prove.
I’m not saying ‘everyone should believe Creation’. But your argument here is similar to Rosie Odonnel saying that ‘everyone is a little gay’. If I were to say that NOBODY IS GAY, that would be offensive. But she can say that just fine. You can say ‘everyone should believe evolution’ without a hint of irony concerning your desire to keep the government out of your life.
Many FAMILIES teach their children Creation. The GOVERNMENT education teaches WHAT THEY WANT (evolution) – regardless of the facts, data, and what’s been proven. Seems to me the government stepping on a lot of families’ toes.
The gay marriage thing is fine. . . but then they want to teach it to elementary school that being gay is cool. They want to put people in jail for teaching that homosexuality is wrong, dangerous, and a public health hazard. They indoctrinate a lifestyle that many families disapprove of. FORCED on the people by the government (PC multi culti, acceptance of all and every – except Christian religion of course).
Cringe all you want to Lorien about people who believe in Creation – or at least don’t believe evolution (in fact are offended at the concept of evolution – 1.5 billion Muslims). You will find yourself in the VAST MINORITY of people across this world that don’t believe in Creation.

White people always clap on the 1 and 3.
That was about the only interesting part of the video.
nottakingsides on October 29, 2008 at 1:18 AM
That’s right, Clint. I totally agree. We shouldn’t stop living our lives nor planning for the future just because we think the Rapture is near. That’s right. I’m just saying I think we’re close to the Rapture — very close. All the signs are there. No other prophecy must be fullfilled first in order for the Rapture to take place. I seriously doubt we’ll be here in 4 years. As for Christians, God has not kept us in darkness. His perfect plan has been revealed:
“But of the times and the seasons, brethren (Christian), ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord (return of Christ) so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they (unbelievers) shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child (as a woman in labour); and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren (Christian), are NOT IN DARKNESS, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the CHILDREN OF LIGHT, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us WATCH AND BE SOBER.” 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6
Just like Noah and his family knew something graphic would happen, so do Christians have an idea. The Bible tells us to watch and be sober. We are not ignorant of the times. You make a very good point though. Thanks.

Chick has no rhythm. Seriously. I like her (a lot), but between this and her vacuous head-bobbing during Amy Poehler’s rap on SNL, I think she needs to stay far away from anything music-related for the remainder of this campaign and the next.
steadyrock on October 29, 2008 at 1:50 AM
She clapped on two and four some of the time, and with the crowd some of the time on one and three.
Believe me, as much as my friends think I’m weird, I watch for these things (I’m an R&B singer).
And I would definitely not say she “has no rhythm”. She’s like most people…she’s got some, but it’s not the center of what she’s thinking about.

Where the fudge was B. Hussein Obama before David Axelrod rescued him from the ass(sic) heap of history? If smart, savvy pol jockeys can’t sell Sarah Palin then they couldn’t sell water in Death Valley.
And to the contrary, Palin’s attraction has nothing to do with novelty but everything to do with her ‘realness’, her genuineness.
Scheiber writes like the one-eyed man in the Kingdom of Visually Gifted. An ass hat in other words.
thegreatbeast on October 29, 2008 at 3:49 AM
Since everyone seems to be in the 2012 prediction mode I’ll offer my prediction:
If Obama wins in 08 this is the last you will see of Palin. There will be other republicans to take her on and I think she doesn’t get the nomination.
If Mccain wins in 08 he gets beat in 2012 by Hillary. The SCOTUS will be a non-issue and people really will decide it is time for a change. His age will be the main factor at that point. Hillary is seen as a centrist.
If McCain wins in 08 and decides to stop after one term it will be a Palin-Hillary matchup and Palin will get spanked badly. 12 years of one party in the Wh and being in office during one of the worst recessions in the last 40 years hurts whoever is running as the GOP nominee.
Jindal looms as a far better choice in 2012 to take on Obama, who would be weakened by the upcoming recession. Jindal would potentially have lots of things on his resume in regards to Louisiana over the next four years. But his age will probably convince him to make his run in 2016.

Too many elitists Republican think if we loose this election it will spark a conservative revolution in 2010. If Obama wins and democrats win super majority in both houses the Republican Party is over. Mr. Marxist Obama and his bodies will legalize 20 millions illegals aliens and ensure their party remains in power indefinitely. Obama will become the Hugo Chaves of the USA. That’s why we have to fight to the end.

Exactly correct. But it will not be 20 million. It will be closer to 30 million and then, through family reunification, an additional 60 – 100 million.
BUT McCain will do precisely the same. Either candidate will guarantee a civil war or complete capitulation by conservatives, more likely the latter.
Charles Martel on October 29, 2008 at 9:56 AM
As far as how she’s clapping? Her hands HURT from endless hours of campaigning. They hurt bad. Cindy McCain had her hand broken while shaking hands. Trust me, you can just look at her and tell she’s got rhythm. Damn she looks hot in those jeans.

Watching Sarah America live on FOX News it is stunning to see how fluid and cogent her thoughts are and how ‘impromptu’ her delivery seems.
Seeing her continue to draw large crowds as some insinuate she might be a drag on the ticket is fairly amusing. Have they been watching Joe Biden dominate in the decatha-gaffe?
This woman enthuses people to vote for McCain. The Obama campaign has realized this and has sought to have her diminished (like they did to Hillary).
Mr Purple on October 29, 2008 at 10:35 AM
Here in NC Sarah is just “dressing for success”. Notice the crowd is pretty much decked out the same way.

lorien1973 on October 29, 2008 at 12:02 PM
The fact she can’t pick a count and stick with it (even if it’s the wrong count, or against the crowd) tells me she has no rhythm. I am a country rhythm guitarist and I watch for these things, too. Plus she just looks so stiff and uncomfortable.
Not that any of this matters to her job as Vice President (think Cheney would be any better?), it just makes me cringe to watch it. The jeans do help, tho.

Remarkable indeed!
Bradky on October 29, 2008 at 6:03 PM
When I said white people always clap on the 1-3, I wasn’t making fun of Palin, I was referring to whites as a group. I could tell she tended toward the 2-4 naturally but would quickly go back to the 1-3 to blend with the crowd.
Unless Palin was going to do a Clapping 101 tutorial, she might as well go along with the group clapping. But anyway, she’s got decent rhythm from what one can tell in the video.
The only time one will see whites clapping on the 2-4 is at a rock concert and the singer is giving a visual on when to clap. Whites sometimes “get it” when forced……haha….
BTW, I’ve played in bands for 25 yrs and this has always been a white phenomenon.
And also BTW, there is no need to attempt a 1-3 vs. 2-4 battle, the 2-4 will always be overpowered in a white group. Just submit!
