Anyone else surprised how much Roland Orzabal looks like Ducky? I don’t remember that at all.

90s, early 00s was dark and depressing. Videos too. One of the few recent bands that I find worth listening to is Evanescence.

It’s kind of dark but it has a sophistication about it.

Music of the 80s has special meaning to those of us who lived through it. I will always associate Hold Me Now by the Thompson Twins and Let Me Go by Heaven 17 with the day I left my first husband. Taken out of memory’s context, it can sound dated and overly synthesized.

I am delighted to find so many fans of great music hear.

Yes, great stuff! My girlfriend at that time introduced me to alot of new stuff (and she worked at a record store – yes, actual vinyl! LOL) I guess it is natural for people to love the music of their youth. Did your husband eventually come to like your music?

I saw Talk Talk in ‘85 warming up for the Psych Furs at “The Pier” in NYC – great time. I’m not into that remake of “It’s my Life” (Gwen Stefani?). It’s kind of weak.

Gotta go and catch some sleep…

My DH and I are very happily married 8 years now this month. He grew up during the 1980s in the tough streets of East Los Angeles where he was inundated with rap, hip-hop and traditional Mexican music. Through his older siblings, he was exposed to alternative and heavy metal.

When we were dating, I introduced him to artists and genres he had never heard. One evening I took him to a used record shop. It’s My Life by Talk Talk is one of my absolute favorite dance tracks and I was excited to find the CD there to replace my damaged copy. He gallantly bought it for me as I raved about the title song.

Back in the car, I popped it into the CD player, closed my eyes, and settled back blissfully anticipating aural pleasure. After the distinctive opening lines, I glanced over to share the experience with him and he was staring at me as if I had falsified my IQ test.

Didnt realize there were some people here that are/were into the “alternative” music scene. Year of my birth was 1961. Yes, 80’s best decade for music!! Loved all the bands you guys have mentioned – also New Order, Ultravox, Kraftwerk, Bauhaus, Talk Talk, Human League, Flock of Seagulls …. In the 90’s though, I got more into the more industrial/techno scene – Front 242, Front Line Assembly, Skinny Puppy, etc and also some of the bands on the 4AD label like Dead Can Dance.
