Video: Celebrities against Franken
posted at 12:04 pm on October 28, 2008 by Allahpundit
I use the term “celebrities” here very, very loosely. As loosely as I’d use it for, say, Al Franken.
At the moment, things are touch and go. Exit question: If Coleman falters, Franken versus Cliff Clavin in 2014?
Update (Ed): I’ve interviewed two of these celebrities on my show here at Hot Air. You can find my interview with Robert Davi here, and Stephen Baldwin here. The chat with Stephen was live at the Values Voter Summit, and I began getting a little claustrophobic with everyone crowding around the table…

Blowback

If Coleman falters I’m going into a drink induced rage.

Actualy pretty good…
Isn’t there a Woody Allan quote… somthing about I wouldn’t want to belong to any club that would have me?
When Hollywood thinks you are too far out….
Romeo13 on October 28, 2008 at 12:07 PM
Lots of Hollywood types are ‘coming out of the closet’. Is this a good trend for Michelle’s children?
Vashta.Nerada on October 28, 2008 at 12:07 PM
LMAO!!!
Hammerhead on October 28, 2008 at 12:08 PM
That was fun, when was the last time Al Franken was fun? I would call that comparison shopping, this is what real comedians look like, compared to Al Franken this is what a Joke looks like:)
Dr Evil on October 28, 2008 at 12:11 PM
I’m pretty sure that was from Groucho Marx.
MarkTheGreat on October 28, 2008 at 12:11 PM
Go, Vikings? Arrrrrgggghhhhhhh!….. I may live in MN but My teams are from Philly and State College….. Vikings? blech!
MNDavenotPC on October 28, 2008 at 12:12 PM
John Ratzenberger.. the only person who has been in every Pixar movie to date..
DaveC on October 28, 2008 at 12:12 PM
Groucho Marx
ManlyRash on October 28, 2008 at 12:12 PM
That’s a little known fact, there, Sammy….
ManlyRash on October 28, 2008 at 12:13 PM
Gee, the only 5 Republican entertainers in Hollywood and only one of them is currently working. Sorry Cliff from Cheers, but you don’t speak for Hollywood.
barry norris on October 28, 2008 at 12:14 PM
“loosely” celebrities, AP?!
That’s RUDE.
They’re better known than you will likely ever be.
(I do believe that’s the definition)
THIS AD IS GREAT! Makes the point, stays up tempo and positive.
Go Vikings!
Lockstein13 on October 28, 2008 at 12:15 PM
Which is funny, because the point he’s trying to make is that Hollywood does not speak for him.
Abby Adams on October 28, 2008 at 12:16 PM
Obnoxious little splooge-stain, aren’t you?
ManlyRash on October 28, 2008 at 12:16 PM
Still.. first to mention it there, chester..
:)
DaveC on October 28, 2008 at 12:20 PM
Sorry Cliff from Cheers, but you don’t speak for Hollywood.
And that is why Hollywood and the media in general is losing money faster then Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. They have forgotten that they are in a business and if you tick off the majority of your potential customers you do not stay in business for long despite your claims that it is for the “common good”.
Nahanni on October 28, 2008 at 12:20 PM
Ah…Annie Hall… had to sit through it a few days ago… but couldn’t sit through a Woody Allan movie sober… so didn’t remember the whole line…
Romeo13 on October 28, 2008 at 12:21 PM
True…But I got to call BarryNorris a splooge-stain before anyone else could. Neener, neener.
ManlyRash on October 28, 2008 at 12:21 PM
Not bad. Isn’t Davi in American Carol?
changer1701 on October 28, 2008 at 12:22 PM
and speaking for Hollywood is a virtue?….. idiot.
MNDavenotPC on October 28, 2008 at 12:22 PM
Do you really want the Victoria Jackson endorsement?
CanadianGuy on October 28, 2008 at 12:22 PM
I just can’t figure out why….why…Franken is doing as well as he is. And against Norm Coleman, no less.
JetBoy on October 28, 2008 at 12:25 PM
We tried one idiot (Ventura) we don’t need to do it again!

Irenaeus on October 28, 2008 at 12:27 PM
Whatever happened to Cliff’s high pitched voice?
MadisonConservative on October 28, 2008 at 12:27 PM
And Hollywood does not speak for America…
CliffHanger on October 28, 2008 at 12:28 PM
Good ad…Go Texans! Oh how we regret the Indy and Jag games this year.
DanMan on October 28, 2008 at 12:31 PM
Political Cartoons since we were discussing Al Franken does he have coat tails for Obama?
Obama Got Nancy Pelosi’s Endorsement right? That’s good enough for me whatever she is for, I don’t want any part of.

Nor do we want it to!!
*eats*
Grue in the Attic on October 28, 2008 at 12:31 PM
You could show that ad to your grandmother.
Very little of the work done by Franken is suitable for decent people.
Elizabetty on October 28, 2008 at 12:32 PM
The Pat Boone part is damn great.
Rbastid on October 28, 2008 at 12:34 PM
Moronic. But it’s meant to play to morons. So maybe it’ll work.
Dave Rywall on October 28, 2008 at 12:34 PM
They’ve all been in more movies than Franken.

MirCat on October 28, 2008 at 12:35 PM
I did not know Victoria Jackson is a Republican? I guess all the SNL Alumni are not complete leftist lunatics afterall.
Winebabe on October 28, 2008 at 12:35 PM
“I use the term “celebrities” here very, very loosely”..um,..HELLOOOO!!!!,..As a mother I must say I LOVE John Ratzenberger!! Toy Story 1 & 2, Bugs Life,Monsters INC,..etc!…shame on you!
christene on October 28, 2008 at 12:36 PM
There are quite a few surprising righties. The Rock, James Earl Jones, Kid Rock, Angie Harmon, etc..
Angelina Jolie isn’t a rightie, but she’s an Independent who admires Ayn Rand and strongly supports the Second Amendment. She even advocates staying in Iraq until the job is done. She gets that from her father, I guess.
amerpundit on October 28, 2008 at 12:47 PM
I’m sure John Ratzenberger is glad to hear it.
Then there is this.

Poor Cliff! How insulting!
pannw on October 28, 2008 at 12:49 PM
Shadenfreude!
When HA spends as much time as it does putting down the presidential and vice-presidential nominees, it shouldn’t act surprised when it has a negative effect on those candidates it deems “pure” enough for their support.
Blake on October 28, 2008 at 12:57 PM
Pat Boone!
Christine on October 28, 2008 at 1:00 PM
What a coincidence! Hollywood doesn’t speak for the rest of America. BTW, I think what is more telling is who Hollywood is the spokesman for. Fidel, Hugo, Amud, Socialism, radical Islam…
Hollywood used to provide morale support to their soldiers too. Now their our biggest detractors.
John Ratzenberger had a great program called “Made in America” that I would watch over “any” production by the rest of the hate and balme America first crowd out there.
BTW, I think
hawkdriver on October 28, 2008 at 1:01 PM
I’m old enough to have fond memories of Victoria Jackson. The main thing I remember is that she was very open about being born again.
snaggletoothie on October 28, 2008 at 1:11 PM
Who says the 5 speak for Hollywood? They speak for themselves.
Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg don’t speak for me either, nor Ron Howard or the FONZ.
And, if Minnesota picks Al Franken, it only proves that a lot of morons live in Minnesota.
originalpechanga on October 28, 2008 at 1:16 PM
There must be a reason why Victoria Jackson did this ad, even if she was a Republican.
She worked with Franken for five years at SNL. So what’s the story, there?
YYZ on October 28, 2008 at 1:16 PM
Go back to your wine and cheese, AP, you miserable elitist.
SKYFOX on October 28, 2008 at 1:17 PM
Lofty messages about equal opportunity in so many of their movies and TV programs and alluding to conservatives and Republicans forever as the bad guys. Hollywood dropped her when she had the unmitigated temerity to go on the 700 Club and talk about her salvation. Unforgivable!
Hollywood, practice what you preach you bastards!
hawkdriver on October 28, 2008 at 1:18 PM
Hey, I may live here, but I’m not from here.
And yes, you are correct. There are a lot of morons here, especially in Minneapolis and St. Paul. The closer you get to the taller buildings, there they are….
Blue-eyed Infidel on October 28, 2008 at 1:23 PM
Extremely nearly off topic: Some people have that special ‘something’ that is always endearing, always brings a smile-
Victoria Jackson is such a person. Whether it’s “UHF” or SNL or her visits to the late night yakkers, I’ve always liked Victoria, and it was nice to see her in this ad.
Doug on October 28, 2008 at 1:23 PM
Oh, I simply agree, Doug. I adore her. She is hilarious. Years ago, I saw her do one of her comedy routines while doing gymnastics. I had no idea what a talented gymnast she was. I just don’t see enough of her around.
Glynn on October 28, 2008 at 1:34 PM
And there’s Drywall, proving once again the old adage “it’s better to keep your mouth (keyboard) closed and have people think you’re an idiot, than it is to open it (them) and prove it.”
Webrider on October 28, 2008 at 1:49 PM
The line: “I wouldn’t want to belong to any club that would have me as a member” was used by Woody Allen in Annie Hall, but he was quoting Groucho Marx who first said it and would certainly be supporting Obama (Marxism).
flyoverland on October 28, 2008 at 2:12 PM
I liked the light-heartedness of that ad. Franken is such a big heavy duty downer – the ad is a nice contrast.
Candy Slice on October 28, 2008 at 2:46 PM
That may be the best ad the NRSC has ever done!! Bravo!
rockmom on October 28, 2008 at 2:59 PM
Stephen Baldwin’s kewl. I always worry though he’s gonna forsake his Christian principles the more popular he gets. It’s not easy staying true to your convictions in reprobate Hollyweird I understand. So far he hasn’t. I pray he doesn’t.
apacalyps on October 28, 2008 at 3:30 PM
Victoria Jackson is a republican?
Whoa. The “airhead” thing is a gimmick?
Black Adam on October 28, 2008 at 3:50 PM
Stephen Baldwin is so cool that he almost makes up for the rest of the clan.
jgapinoy on October 28, 2008 at 4:24 PM
Ratzenberger needs to do an ad on the “little known facts” about Franken’s liberal policies.
Grafted on October 28, 2008 at 5:11 PM
The Rock isn’t that much of a surprise, he gave a speech at the 2000 RNC. Hmm, that’s another thing he has in common with Obama, half black, good looking, speaks well, gave a convention speech, not experienced enough to be president. He’d be perfect in 2012.
Dave_d on October 28, 2008 at 6:23 PM
Hey, at least Victoria Jackson actually KNOWS Al Franken. I always thought she was hot, by the way.
otcconan on October 28, 2008 at 8:06 PM
“And that is why Hollywood and the media in general is losing money faster then Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.”
Yes. But the actors and directors get paid. So what difference is it to them. The backers are the ones who miss out, unless the investment was just a tax write off.
davod on October 28, 2008 at 9:52 PM
I seriously doubt he’d take the pay cut.
john1schn on October 29, 2008 at 12:31 AM
That would still be one more working actor than Al Franken. But you’re wrong. Check imdb.com and you can see that Baldwin, Ratzenberger, and Jackson are all currently working. Pat Boone is probably retired, but he was obviously doing a light-hearted spoof of the famous video of himself in a swimming pool.
In fact, I believe each of those celebrities, if not exactly A-list, is still a bigger celebrity than Franken.
More important, it was fun!!
