Today, on the Ed Morrissey Show (3 pm ET), we are privileged to welcome Pete Hegseth, one of the Iraq War veterans behind Vets for Freedom. Pete will discuss the new VFF ad against John Murtha in a race that suddenly looks winnable for William Russell, a potential rare bright spot in this electoral cycle. We’ll also talk more about Barack Obama and Democratic plans for defense and national security. John Randall joins us from the NRSC to walk through a couple of races and also the scenarios left in Alaska after Ted Stevens’ conviction on corruption yesterday.

Now you can join the conversation in the chat room! Be sure to register at Ustream to participate in our raucous live-chat sessions. (And if the log-in prompt doesn’t come up in the chat box below, use this link instead.) Jazz Shaw of The Moderate Voice moderates the chat, and he has his Troll Gun Trivia Contest running before the show, for those who get there early — and are registered!

Ed,
Please thank Pete and all for their service and what they are doing for our military. Would you ask if anyone knows if the military vote will be counted? It seems like some states are thowing them out for various reasons. The poll I saw showed McCain has 60 or so % over bho with all military. That is a good reason to not let the votes count.

Once upon a time, there was a little red hen who uncovered quite a few grains of wheat. ‘If we plant this wheat, we shall have bread to eat. Who will help me plant it?’

‘Not I,’ said the cow.

‘Not I,’ said the duck.

‘Not I,’ said the pig.

‘Not I,’ said the goose.

‘Then I will do it by myself,’ said the little red hen, The wheat grew very tall and ripened into golden grain.

‘Who will help me reap my wheat?’ asked the little red hen.

‘Not I,’ said the duck..

‘Out of my classification,’ said the pig.

‘I’d lose my seniority,’ said the cow.

‘I’d lose my unemployment compensation,’ said the goose.

‘Then I will do it by myself,’ said the little red hen.

‘Who will help me bake the bread?’ asked the little red hen.

‘That would be overtime for me,’ said the cow.

‘I’d lose my welfare benefits,’ said the duck.

‘I’m a dropout and never learned how,’ said the pig.

‘If I’m to be the only helper, that’s discrimination,’ said the goose.

‘Then I will do it by myself,’ said the little red hen.

She baked five loaves. They wanted some and, in fact, demanded a share.

But the little red hen said, ‘No, I shall eat all five loaves.’

‘Excess profits!’ cried the cow. (Nancy Pelosi)

‘Capitalist leech!’ screamed the duck. (Barbara Boxer)

‘I demand equal rights!’ yelled the goose. (Jesse Jackson)

The pig just grunted in disdain. (Ted Kennedy)

And they all painted ‘Unfair!’ picket signs and marched around and around the little red hen, shouting obscenities.

Then the farmer (Obama) came. He said to the little red hen, ‘You must not be so greedy.’

‘But I earned the bread,’ said the little red hen.

‘Exactly,’ said Barack the farmer. ‘That is what makes our free enterprise system so wonderful. Anyone in the barnyard can earn as much as he wants. But under our modern government regulations, we must “spread the wealth around.”

The End.

Sorry to be a downer, but this is what we are really facing.
