Video: Michelle on Barbara West and the Biden interview; Update: Biden whines

posted at 11:18 am on October 27, 2008 by Allahpundit

A postscript to the interview heard ’round the online world, in which West dared to suggest that The One’s redistributionist tendencies might be more, shall we say, robust than voters suspect. In fairness, Team Barry’s not the only camp to have punished unfriendly media by denying them access. They are, however, the only camp to do so that’s aligned with people bent on targeting unfriendly media legislatively, replete with sporadic threats of hauling stations before the FCC for their unfriendliness.

Note to the Palestra kids, who did such good work in exposing the shenanigans on Brownlee Avenue: They’re watching.

Update: New Obama Rule: It’s “ugly” to question how far The One’s impulses towards “social justice” run.

Are YOU JOKING, OBAMA? You chose JOE BIDEN instead of HRC.

NO more interviews? No wonder, asking a simple question instead of one like “Obama, how do you stay so wonderful?”

Michelle said “BLACKLISTED” how racist of her, I’m sure.

Good times.

Those local TV interviews can be tricky. Most of the stations are just happy to get the interview and aren’t really that up to snuff on some of the finer points of a campaigns weaknessess. But every once in a while a Barbara West shows up, and awesomeness ensues.

Um, when that democrat has continuously advocated “spreading the wealth” and “redistribution”, as well as having a communist mentor, asking how he’s not a Marxist when his economic policies match the statements of Marx is completely legitimate.

Biden’s done “over 180 interviews since being selected as the Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee,” and nobody else asked him tough questions like this? That says alot more about the mainstream media in general than it does about Barbara West. It’s about time. You go, girl!

Obama is all for freedom of the press as long as they don’t ask any searching questions or report on anything he disagrees with.

I find it ironic that the MSM may be the first victims of Barack’s policies since they created his candidacy.

Fool, she asked it in the context of what the Obama campaign wants to do. Redistribute wealth, he said it recently, he said it a few years ago in a detailed Q&A on radio. She was following up on a campaign statement.
The “patriot act” and others was fully vetted and debated in congress…Obama is trying to hide what he wants to do.
You have proven the point…
If you rob Peter to pay Paul, Paul never complains.
You want someones else’s money that they earned in your pocket. Right? Because that is what Obama wants.

Yup. When Bush has people who question him investigated and their private lives made public, or enacts lawsuits to have ads about him removed from television, or has supporters call into radio stations to have people who write books critical of him refused interview airtime on a radio show, then you can start calling him fascist. So far, we’ve endured eight years of Bush being called Hitler, and Obama can’t handle his own words being brought up.

If you can’t see the difference, you don’t have a clue what fascism really is. Hint: It wasn’t the movie adaptation of V for Vendetta.

It is interesting to look at various ways they slip past the socialist/Marxist issue.

1) They laugh at it, like it is absurd to bring it up.

2) They get into parsing words and splitting hairs over the technical definitions and differences between socialism, Marxism, Leninism, or communism. In the end, all are anti-free enterprise, anti-capitalism and anti-free market. All are collectivist and kill the individual spirit that built America.

3) They threaten, whether it is Joe the Plumber, or TV anchor, or a book author.

4) They play class warfare and change the wording of what they mean to appeal to Americans who really don’t want “socialism,” but would like a hand-out from the the government.

Regardless you’re missing my larger point. It’s easy to take vague indicators of an extreme ideology, and then assign the entirety of that extreme ideology to a person. That’s what liberal idiots do with Bush (he is nationalistic, he hates intellectualsm, he is militaristic…so he’s a fascist!) and what idiots here do with Obama (he supporst a top marginal income-tax rate of 39.6% rather than 35%….so he’s a Marxist!).

bloggless on October 27, 2008 at 12:29 PM

Oh… BLAH BLAH BLAH, PLUS TAX, Joe.

Here’s the thing: You’re not going to “reach out to us” except to slip your hand into our pockets in order to fund your redistribution schemes.

Conservatives don’t own the “division” market – Bill and Hillary, you and Barack, and a countless line of liberals since at least the late fifties have done more than your share to make sure the poor stay divided from the middle class, blacks stay divided from whites, Hispanics stay divided from the American mainstream, and on and on and on. So stop laying the blame at other people’s feet, and spare me the phony compassion.

If you think this country is “divided” now, just wait a few years. We’re headed toward a full-scale culture war, and these current conflicts and confrontations are only little skirmishes. If there’s going to be any “reconciliation,” it’s only going to be after a lot of pain is suffered by a lot of people; it won’t be any time soon; and it won’t be because you or any other politician, much less one from the Senate’s liberal establishment, “reached out” to anybody.

Here’s what I really believe: That when you reach a certain level of comfort, there’s nothing wrong with paying somewhat more.

-John McCain
They’re both Marxists!!!111!!
See how easy it is to play this game? All taxes are redistributive and the federal income tax is downwardly distributive as a matter of principle. So both candidates would “take your wealth and redistribute it”, the only difference is the statistic in my previous post. That 4.6% apparently, is the difference between capitalism and Marxism.

crr6 on October 27, 2008 at 12:31 PM

No on both. Palin is talking about sharing the tax payers own money with them. The state owns those resources and receives money because of it. That’s not an issue of taking from someone to give it to others but rather to share money generated by something they all own.

And McCain, while not a conservative, is also not a socialist merely for believing the wealthy should pay more. That’s what you’re missing. It’s not just the higher taxes. It’s also the fact that he wants to give the money generated from those higher taxes to people with less money.

I.E., he’s literally talking about taking money from the wealthy to give it to the poor. That is socialism.

That’s true, even though their ideology was not very different. The Nazis hated Communist only because Communist were trying to take the power away from the Nazis.

By the way, make sure you understand the the terms “left” and “right” as applied to World War II is not the way those terms are used in American politics. Old Europe used the terms “Right” and “Left” to distinguish between Nazis on the “Right” and Communism on the “Left.” However there is not much difference between Communist and Nazis, they were both socialist and both systems were totalitarian.

In American politics the term Left includes Communist/fascist/Nazis/Socialist and so on. The common thread between them is totalitarianism. The term “Righ” in American politics means those who believe in capitalism, freedom, free trade, free enterprise, Constitutional government and private property.

“We have to bring this country together” – Joe Biden
“I’m a uniter, not a divider.” – Bush George W. Bush

Since when is it a bad thing to stand behind your ideals?
Since when is it a good thing to compromise those ideals?

There are many factions in our nation, and there are two major political parties with, in many cases, diametrically opposed ideals and agendas.
How has it become a good thing to compromise on, say, an unborn child’s right to life? Or national security? Or the strict interpretation of our Constitution?

I find it chilling that the conversation in our country has ceased to be about a refusal to compromise on certain fundamentals, and has turned instead into how we can best go about compromising them.

crr6 on October 27, 2008 at 12:21 PM

This is an excellent point: There are a lot of people – even in America – who are stupid enough to believe this kind of crap.

You can blame it on the schools, lead-based paint, etc… But all of those are only partial answers. In America today, true political terms – with real definitions – have all been forbidden from public dialogue as dirty words. When this guy says the word “Fascist”, is he referring to a 1930’s Italian political movement? Of course not; he means the same thing my three-year-old means when she says “poopie head.”

The same terms (right vs. left) that were used in the old, rabid arguments between Socialist collectivists and Communist collectivists are now warped into the argument between free enterprise supporters and collectivists. Try to explain to him what the various combinations of letters actually mean or even, at the very least, try to politely point out to him that he probably should confine his public coments to subjects more along the lines of sports and soap operas and what happens – he throws a screaming fit.

But this can’t be explained by mere stupidity. There have always been dumb people in the world. The difference in the past 50 years has been the prevelence of mass media and its need to service the egos of the least common denominator. There is a REASON they substitute catch-phrases for defined terms – and even go so far as to treat the use of defined political terms as if they were profanity.

When real words are used, dumb people feel left out. As long as the discussion is strictly limited to catch-phrases (fuzzy and ill-defined terms like like ‘liberal’ and ‘conservative’) then all that matter are the FEELINGS which have become attatched to sounds people make with their mouths. That way everyone gets to have an equally valid opinion. Sports, soap operas, politics, nuclear fusion and global weather patterns – it’s all one big, happy shouting match.

As for Fox, Fox news is the most unprofessional news network out there. Biden did answer the question on the difference between Obama and Marx. That putz on Fox and friends is a blatant liar!

As I recall the video clip Biden’s answer was “you have got to be kidding”. That hardly qualifies as an answer.

Wow, Obama is threatening college journalist. How pathetic.

OK, maybe not an ‘answer’ per se. But it’s always been a perfectly valid response from any Democrat in the past. And at the very least it’s finally a variation on the old standby: “How dare you question my patriotism!?!?

You have to admit, that was getting pretty darned stale.

Well, Biden’s definition of “answer” is a little Clintonian.

It’s about time someone called them on it, IMO.

I highly suggest calling in and voicing your support for Barbara West and actual journalism when it comes to interviewing presidential candidates.

I’m pretty sure I’ll ruin your day by agreeing with you. Sorry.

I worked in a newsroom in an area that was more red than blue. Actions and letters like this force them to at least take note.

As much as they would like to they cannot ignore the public, especially with profit margin at many newspapers dropping like the Dow.

from the Biden clip:

“Some of it’s been pretty ugly.. Please, leave my hair plugs natural hair out of this, it doesn’t matter to your lives.”

DaveC on October 27, 2008 at 2:39 PM

A Tasist is a racist with a moustache (probably libs would point to John Bolton as such a person).

I love Ms. West she did a bang up job. Imagine if the clip that came out late last night had been available and she played it for Biden and asked, you mean to tell the American people that this is not pure Marxism? Have you no shame Senator?
But at least Ms. West got the conversation talking on Marxism, and the talking heads who poohpoohed it yesterday, now have their credibility in ashes due to words from the horse’s mouth.

Here is what Obama’s buddy does to the competition. Expect the same from “The One”

Hair plugs never fed a hungry child – only Marxism can do that.

Biden sounds like a boxer who’s used to having fights fixed for him. He expects the next one to be fixed, but when he starts taking real punches you’d expect in an an honest fight, he screams unfair.
