The Obama campaign apparently does not agree, as evidenced by their deliberate and calculated use of an on-line contribution mechanism which, unlike McCain's (or every single retailer who accepts on-line credit card purchases) , makes it easy to hide ...

Born elsewhere? or gave up his citizenship? who cares? "they don't" It will all be looked at (HAH!) after the One is chosen.

I don't see why people are waiting for Obama to cooperate. The banks have records too. There's more than enough cause for the FBI to do a quick scan. There must be one person in Washington with a thimbleful of ethics.

As someone who worked for the FEC for a short time, I will note two things I learned:

1. The FEC is designed for gridlock (an equal number of Ds and Rs cancelling each other on any life-or-death decision);

2. The FEC has to ask those it is supposed to police for its annual budget. To give you an idea of how that works out, at the FEC offices, you could not run the mircowave oven and the paper shredder at the same time without blowing all of the electricity. Records would sit in document boxes stacked in the hallways for lack of storage, etc.

There are a lot of nice, well-meaning people working there, from the Commissioners on down (yep, that's how small the FEC is; I worked there for a summer and met Commissioners at a pizza party). But the place is designed and funded to do next to nothing. That's why I was never in a panic about the FEC policing blogs. I knew it was never going to happen, as the agency had neither the inclination, nor the time nor the resources to do it.

In real-time, the only valuable function of the FEC on this issue is that filing a complaint might get the story in the news. Otherwise, the time lag involved in an investigation renders it moot.

The FEC is f*ing useless. They are a disgrace to idea of oversight.

I'm not bringing up the Birth Cert. thing to get everyone started again...but, if the FEC was on their game there wouldn't be any conspiracy. Instead, all they do is shirk their responsibility.

If they don't have complete oversight on our election process, to include checking the constitutional qualifications of the candidates, oversight of state's processes and campaign financing, then what good are they?

Obama's campaign is lying, and the Washington Post lets them. Pravda, folks, it's in our American future.

Yeah, Barry, you set up safeguards - except the industry standard safeguards that have existed for years and years.

Please.

They wanted illicit donations to go through, and everyone knows it.

Legacy media like the WaPo is a cancer. Patients with cancer are given two choices, cut it out or shrink it. Pointing to media bias and screaming "unfair, bias, etc." doesn't help. I'm certain your local paper sucks and only provides sports scores, so cancel your subscriptions. Don't feed the tumor and promote growth of the healthy tissue We are alternative media consumers and we need to spread the good word of the Internet. There are so many sources of news in the alternate media today that media bias should be a thing of the past.

Legacy media like the WaPo is a cancer. Patients with cancer are given two choices, cut it out or shrink it. Pointing to media bias and screaming “unfair, bias, etc.” doesn’t help. I’m certain your local paper sucks and only provides sports scores, so cancel your subscriptions. Don’t feed the tumor and promote growth of the healthy tissue We are alternative media consumers and we need to spread the good word of the Internet. There are so many sources of news in the alternate media today that media bias should be a thing of the past.

Manly, sorry to burst your bubble but NO democrats, not blue dogs, yellow dogs, conservatives, moderates or liberals will yelp for Obama to step down and replace him with Biden. Ain’t gonna happen in this universe. Power is all that dems understand, and they would rather have the pliant ‘present’ Obama than the stupid yet legislatively adept Biden in charge of the White House. - eaglewingz08 on October 26, 2008 at 3:52 PM

No bubble to burst, eagle. I'm just being realistic. We're not talking about passing a budget or debating an appropriation. The country would be in an uproar over something like this and a great many of the people who previously voted for Obama - not a majority, to be sure, but a sizable number - would be calling on their own representatives to ask him to step down.

The divisions within every branch of government and the nation itself - not to mention the military - would be horrendous.

In a Statement of Facts in the recent criminal trial of former UBS executive Bradley Birkenfeld, it was alleged that UBS took extraordinary steps to help American clients manage their Swiss accounts without alerting federal authorities. For example, UBS advised American clients to avoid detection by using Swiss credit cards to withdraw funds, to destroy all existing off-shore banking records, and to misrepresent the receipt of funds from their Swiss accounts as loans from the Swiss bank. According to The Nation, UBS established an elaborate training program which taught bank employees how to avoid surveillance by U.S. Customs and law enforcement, falsify visas, encrypt communications, and secretly move money in and out of the country... ”

It is the perfect instrument for funneling illegal campaign contributions into the coffers of an unscrupulous American politician. Putting two and two together, I suggested that a very wealthy individual, or cartel, wishing to influence the election of the President of the United States, could transfer unlimited sums of money through this device. A U.S. recipient, such as the Obama campaign, could receive hundreds of thousands of individual contributions via Swiss credit card transfers, with fictitious payees being entered by teams of paid staffers working in a “boiler room” setting. The owners of the Swiss accounts would receive periodic statements indicating: a) debits of varying amounts, up to $2,300 each, and b) offsetting credits provided by the cartel, or by the wealthy, but unnamed, “international financier.”

As for Drudge Report, was the poster mentioning that Chicago is the murder capital of the US (and the murders of Jennifer Hudson's mother, etc?)? Perhaps Obama can explain what he and Mayor Daly did to make Chicago safer? More Afrocentric courses to raise Chicagoans self esteem? Direct action? Slumlord buildings? Obstructing juvenile/adult treament legislation? McCain should have an ad
What Obama did to Chicago he wants to do to US.
But I'm dreaming.
