Jonathan Martin wonders why she’d broach this subject, thereby keeping it alive for another news cycle. The likely answer, per his colleague: Because she had nothing to do with the RNC clothes purchases and is boiling about what it’s done to her image.

An encouraging anecdote re the clothes thing.

I was shopping for a little black dress today at Macy's and for some reason they had a TV on near the dressing room and register which was tuned to MSNBC. This was late afternoon so I think Hardball was on.

Found my dress (nice Jones of NY, very elegant) and was checking out, making chit chat with the sales clerk about the economy (she did the usual Macy's credit card offer thing that they do at check out) and times being tough. I mentioned I was surprised that they'd have the news on (doesn't it remind people that money's tight?) and she didn't get my drift, but brought up how upset she was about the Palin effigy thing (jerks in West Hollywood hanging her in effigy). Then she went on to quietly complain about how low people have sunk and the general sorry state of things.

Did I mention this was a middle-aged black lady?

I think the media has pushed the attacks on Palin too far and it's going to bite them on their rear-ends next week.

Most politicians do not read papers. They susbcribe to a clipping service. When Gov. Palin was in NYC, they reported that she had all the newspapers sent up to her room. I'm so sick of these slimey attacks by the left, by conservatives, and the refusal of conservatives to defend her.

Re: the comment about wanting a candidate that has read more newspapers than the poster's 8th grade daughter --

I was discussing this very point with my 9th grade child just the other day. In hindsight, the Governor answered the question the only way it could have been answered (something to the effect of "I go through all of them").

If she were to have identified with any *one* particular publication, she would have been branded too "left", too "right", or too "centrist" by a large section of the electorate (rightly or wrongly - it is what it is). Not to mention the old favorite, "elitist". And that doesn't even take into consideration what the publication itself would have had to say about it! (eg: there is NO way she doesn't read the NYT; yet they would have had kittens if she had mentioned them).

This goes back to an old meme wherein a reporter asked W the same question and he answered flat out that "he doesn't read the news". Of course he reads the news. It is presented to him every single morning in his daily briefing book: the good, the bad, and the horrible.

Barton Gellman, who wrote the latest book on Cheney, said in an interview that, far from the Bush/Cheney relationship being one of puppet and puppet-master, as the media has portrayed it, Bush is actually quite... involved. The idea that he could be that way and not "read the news" is specious. I would find the same argument to hold sound for Gov. Palin.

I believe the media (and many others) are seriously underestimating her, as they did W. I would also never wish the series of world events thrust upon W on any of his adversaries.

Here at HA our sport is not whack-a-mole, it’s whack-a-troll.

I had to laugh cruising the threads this morning before church. RW posted the most nihilistic, I'm so full of myself comment I've ever seen. We are so totally p'wned by him every day. I'm surprised we just haven't all committed suicide by now from embarrassment by the manner he has his way with us. /sarc

God, what an arrogant, delusional, self-centered prick. I'm sure he's the guy in the office that will come to your cubical wanting to demonstrate his monstrous intellect and all you can thing of in response is, "God, this guy needs a breath mint!"

The problem with both Allah and Ed is that, as bloggers, they seem to be more concerned with how what they write will be received by other bloggers, and are more concerned with other bloggers opinions, than they are with just getting their opinions out there and letting the readers decide what to think.

I don't see it that way at all - both Allah & Ed have taken a lot of crap for what they've posted (more Allah than Ed) and rarely seem to feel the need to respond. Actually, I wish they would show up in the comments more. I'm always interested in what they have to say.
