Video: Palin talks clothes

posted at 4:58 pm on October 26, 2008 by Allahpundit

Jonathan Martin wonders why she’d broach this subject, thereby keeping it alive for another news cycle. The likely answer, per his colleague: Because she had nothing to do with the RNC clothes purchases and is boiling about what it’s done to her image.

[T]he final straw for Palin and her allies was the news that the campaign had reported spending $150,000 on her clothes, turning her, again, into the butt of late-night humor.

“She never even set foot in these stores,” the senior Republican said, noting Palin hadn’t realized the cost when the clothes were brought to her in her Minnesota hotel room.

“It’s completely out-of-control operatives,” said the close ally outside the campaign. “She has no responsibility for that. It’s incredibly frustrating for us and for her.”

McCain defended her this morning on MTP but doubtless he’d like to change the subject. Maybe tomorrow.

The video I really wanted to give you was of her warning Obama not to pop the champagne just yet — “You kinda get the feeling that the Obama campaign thinks this whole election process is just a formality” — but I can’t find it. If you see it somewhere, I’d be grateful for the tip. In lieu of that, you’ll find Hasselbeck’s intro of Palin today below. Exit quotation: “This is deliberately sexist.”

Blowback

Dave Rywall on October 26, 2008 at 6:10 PM

Oh my. You are amusing. Many, many Christians don’t believe that all atheists are going to hell. (This isn’t a theology thread but it’s got to do with “invincible [excusable] ignorance” – look it up if you’re interested. Salvation comes by Jesus, say these Christians, but saves some who don’t know Him by name but are living the best life they can with what they know. I agree with this BTW.)

Still, I’m always a bit baffled to hear how upset atheists get at the notion that some Christians do believe if you’re an atheist, you’re going to Hell. If you know Hell doesn’t exist, why would you be upset?

I’m a Catholic and some Christians believe I’m going to Hell for that. Doesn’t bug me because I know it isn’t true. Absolutely sure of it. Atheists who freak out at the mention of hell (and even when Hell was never mentioned, as in this case) seem really insecure to me. Sorry if I misunderstand.

Give Drywall a break on this. He’s just confused as usual. His idea of a “wedding ring” is the stain left by his gay lover on the eve of his civil union.

As to God’s approval Drywall, see “Sodom and Gomorrah” for some insight into the difference between what God actually approves of and how HE deals with those HE disapproves of.

Guardian on October 26, 2008 at 6:19 PM

Sense when has it been a sin to take off a wedding ring, exactly? I mean, it was only fairly recently that the common people had access to enough resources to buy one, right?

Exactly!!!

McCain’s tactics of not to offend may be the ultimate reason.
Palin has been the first to come along and speak with the clarity of the average Joe on the street. With the same problems and issues everyday people have. Sons and daughters, troubled or not.

What’s not unique is the family support mechanism. It’s there and open for all to see.

I’m a civilian sheet metal mechanic. I work on military aircraft, been doing it for almost 30 years. The Federal government is finally getting the hint, that the pool of experienced mechanics is getting smaller as we all age out and retire (or worse…). We now have agreements with local community colleges and high schools to hire and train students in a co-op program. The response has been terrific, and we don’t seem to have a shortage of willing, qualified candidates. These kids learn a trade that can support them and their families, we get a new wave of experience, and the government gets all of it at a decent price.

If only someone could get through to the lemming evangelicals who insist on holding hands with Jim Wallis and the Sojourners as they walk off the cliff with Obama.

The thing I simply don’t understand about Wallis and his colleagues is that I can’t find anything in the Gospel where Christ talks about governments serving the role reserved for the church. Obama and his proposals such as the Global Poverty Act are usurpations of the Christian mission. Who is Obama to steal money from taxpayers to flush down the UN moneyhole? Americans don’t need that kind of prompting.

And don’t get me started on how Wallis and those losers can back Obama given his support for Planned Parenthood. They’re a disgrace.

More great news…if you are from Michigan or know anyone in Michigan….

I just got an email from the group Our Country Deserves Better’s “Stop Obama Tour” that they are making such good progress in Michigan(!) that they are diverting their national tour to go back for a visit:

As you may know, we have invested considerable resources into the state of Michigan to turn the tide and win this state for McCain/Palin (including a $500,000 TV advertising buy and 10 rallies in the state over the last 3 days) we’ve gotten new polling information which shows our efforts have led to an 8-point jump for the McCain/Palin ticket in Michigan!

We are therefore changing our schedule and heading back to Michigan! Our new schedule will be posted to our website within the next few hours, and I’ll need your help to get the word out so we can quickly put together pro-McCain/Palin rallies in Bay City, Flint, Battle Creek, and Hillsdale.

Look for the updated schedule with rally locations to be posted in the next few hours here:

That was weak…the Hasselback bit.

Obama pays his women staff only 87% of what he pays his male staff? Really? Wow!! Terrific analysis. Did it have anything to do with tenure, experience, or negotiation? Of course not.

We will never win a general election by trying to out-stupid the democrats. And that is exactly what Senator (corporate greeeeeeed) McCain has tried to do. Which is why he is going down in flames.

Sarah Palin is supposed to be the woman who will get the dumber republicans on board. So, what do we need Hasselback for? She is out-dumbing Palin.

Yup. And Noonan is crapping in her Depends as we speak, terrifed that she bet on the wrong horse. Alas, she did, and after the election, she’ll find herself on the way to the political glue factory.

Sarah will go in or out, not with a whimper but a roar. I wish she would say to all of us Americans on Nov 5:
“I care about what you think of me and I will always be thinking of you.”

“But we are expected to govern with integrity, good will, clear convictions, and …a servant’s heart.”

SHE DOES NOT WHERE HER WEDDING RING AT ALL TIMES GOD WOULD NOT APPROVE

Dave Rywall on October 26, 2008 at 6:06 PM

A wedding ring has it’s origins in paganism not biblical teachings. I guess that means you may go to hell for wearing one rather then not wearing one.

And the enormous waste of money the Obama campaign paid for his set design in Denver was completely justified in your mind, no doubt.

But I gotta ask: As a foreign donor, how does it really make you feel? I mean, when you’re alone in the dark, with nothing but the Pooh night light illuminating your studio apartment.

Mehhh, it was a set. Who cares. It wasn’t that elaborate.

The fact that Palin is cast as as a 6 pack woman and then spends that much on clothes doesn’t sit well with the real 6 pack women out there. It was kind of a dumb thing to do. Take your lumps and it’ll blow over, but damage has been done, whether you think it’s valid or not.

Dave Rywall on October 26, 2008 at 7:06 PM

Dave, I’m sure you’ll be happy to know that Edwards and Clinton never took off their wedding rings while they had affairs. Perfect Liberal Values.

Speedwagon82 on October 26, 2008 at 7:06 PM

I don’t mind Dave. He’s harmless, and pops up whenever he suspects I’m not around. The moment I appear, he scurries away like a cockaroach. It’s fun, actually.

I can’t wait ’til he commits virtual suicide once he realizes the leftard media as been propping up FauxBama’s poll numbers for two years.

I am expecting nationwide mass suicides by the left on November 5th. Check that. I am demanding it.

Let’s roll.

I never wore a wedding ring while I was married to my husband for 25 years until he died. I will be married to him for an eternity. That’s the spirit that Mrs. Palin expressed.

In your demented mind, perhaps. Apparently the thousands of Joe Six-Pack moms who roar their approval whenever Sarah appears aren’t bothered by the fact that her clothes were provided to her courtesy of the RNC. She didn’t spend that money, dummy. She buys her own clothes at a consignmet shop.

Are you gonna make that bet or what, Dave? C’mon, stop sniping like a douchebag and be a man – for once in your pathetic Canadian liberal existence.

ManlyRash on October 26, 2008 at 7:11 PM

A couple things: I’ve been married 25 years and I hardly ever wear my ring; It’s bulky and it gets in the way of my work, plus I don’t want to damage it. Doesn’t bother my husband in the least.

And- I’ve donated a few $$$ to the RNC and I could give a sh*t if it was spent on Sarah’s clothes; so the media can shut the hell up about it.

And- that wretched hag Peggy Noonan won’t care if we abolish her from our Republican hearts- she’ll just go write another hypocritical book about the Pope. You know the Pope? The one who doesn’t believe in abortion for anyone, including practicing Catholics, PEGGY!

jmarcure on October 26, 2008 at 7:01 PM

Well, that’s a partial answer.
I tried googling the history of the wedding ring, but it is cluttered with so much mush I didn’t learn anything.
Clearly, though, until rather recently, only the rich (nobility) would have been able to afford a gold ring, so how would it be a sin to take one off?

Dave:

Are there no Christians in Canada? You talk about them as if they were a tribe living in the rain forest, rarely seen and only rumored to exist.

A lot of Christians do not wear wedding bands. Idiot.

I do not know one regular human being who gives a rat’s ass about Palin’s wardrobe, most people I know think it is a stupid thing to be talking about.

Of course if Barack wants to spend thousands on a nice tux so that when he goes to a Hollywood fund raiser he can blend in with the over dressed celebs. The last such event netted $9million and I don’t doubt for a minute that there were not movie stars at that event who were wearing jewelry valued at more than $150 grand.

The whole subject is ridiculous. If Palin had dressed in the clothes she wore back home, the same people who are saying she spend too much would be saying she was an uncultured redneck who dressed like a hick.

It ISN’T a sin to take it off – at least not a sin in the Catholic Church.

It IS a sin to take anything Rywall says with more than a pillar of salt.
