Palin to Obama: Don’t celebrate just yet

posted at 9:42 pm on October 26, 2008 by Allahpundit

Here’s the clip I asked for earlier; the money part comes about halfway through. Note the sustained boos for the media, much more so than for Obama.

They have a “very steep hill to climb,” says Karl Rove. Do they?

Palin is only a “liability” for McCain in the sence that she provides the liberals with a solid reason for why they abandoned him once he earned the nomination.

She is a net plus for him in every other respect. He would have no base without her.

bloggless on October 26, 2008 at 10:26 PM

You also have to keep in mind where this “news” is coming from………………..

Listen and watch……….

Over the weekend, I had the radio on while doing chores around the house. Wouldn’t you know, “news and traffic on the tens” had this recurring story……….

It was how Michelle Obama responded to President Bush’s weekly radio address. They played a good ten to fifteen second clip of her, and only paraphrasing President Bush’s message in a single sentence, closing the news stating that Barak Obama was leading in the polls by 14%……….

Pure, unadulterated, unapologetic, straight from the text book……. PROPGANDA!!!!!!

Sure it is close, but there is a coordinated effort in this country to portray events as they are not, and if it wasn’t for the “new media”, they would be getting away with it.

Starlink, very interesting. Take a look at the poll numbers for 18-24 year olds in this poll. They are going for McCain in double digits. Our nation does have a future. Also, where is this huge turnout of youth going to come from that Obama is counting on? I think it looks really good for McCain right now. I don’t believe the majority of polls. I think McCain is actually ahead.

ManlyRash on October 26, 2008 at 10:45 PM

I am so god-awful sick, I mean physically ill over this election and our current situation. If McCain doesnt make it our government has truely failed us. really.

I just watched Hannity go a full hour of 10 reasons NOT to vote for Obama with barely taking a breath between words. Is that going to help? I doubt it. The people watching are all folks probably voting for McCain anyway. We need to hear what McCain will actually do for this mess or we’re going to lose.

This Syria thing isn’t policitally motivated, but might be a good rmeinder that we have terrorists to deal with and troops in harms way who need to be handled correctly and kept motivated. I do also think the Syria move was a good message to Russia and Iran and the terrorists to quit piping resistance through Syria into Iraq. I applaud the move and its good we do it now than wait on whomever gets in office to do it. Obama may or may not bring the troops home right away. He is saying anything and everything so who knows with him. He has said yes and no to every question. People just want to vote for him…because.

I am very disappointed and depressed and am just praying at this point. Nine days can’t go fast enough for me.

TRANSCRIPT:

MODERATOR: Good morning and welcome to Odyssey on WBEZ Chicago 91.5 FM and we’re joined by Barack Obama who is Illinois State Senator from the 13th district and senior lecturer in the law school at the University of Chicago.

OBAMA: If you look at the victories and failures of the civil rights movement and its litigation strategy in the court, I think where it succeeded was to vest formal rights in previously dispossessed peoples. So that I would now have the right to vote, I would now be able to sit at the lunch counter and order and as long as I could pay for it I’d be okay.

But the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth and sort of more basic issues of political and economic justice in this society. And to that extent as radical as people tried to characterize the Warren court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, at least as it’s been interpreted, and the Warren court interpreted it in the same way that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. It says what the states can’t do to you, it says what the federal government can’t do to you, but it doesn’t say what the federal government or the state government must do on your behalf. And that hasn’t shifted. One of the I think tragedies of the civil rights movement was because the civil rights movement became so court focused, I think that there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributed change and in some ways we still suffer from that.

MODERATOR: Let’s talk with Karen. Good morning, Karen, you’re on Chicago Public Radio.

KAREN: Hi. The gentleman made the point that the Warren court wasn’t terribly radical with economic changes. My question is, is it too late for that kind of reparative work economically and is that that the appropriate place for reparative economic work to take place – the court – or would it be legislation at this point?

OBAMA: Maybe I’m showing my bias here as a legislator as well as a law professor, but I’m not optimistic about bringing about major redistributive change through the courts. The institution just isn’t structured that way.

You just look at very rare examples during the desegregation era the court was willing to for example order changes that cost money to a local school district. The court was very uncomfortable with it. It was very hard to manage, it was hard to figure out. You start getting into all sorts of separation of powers issues in terms of the court monitoring or engaging in a process that essentially is administrative and takes a lot of time.

The court’s just not very good at it and politically it’s very hard to legitimize opinions from the court in that regard. So I think that although you can craft theoretical justifications for it legally. Any three of us sitting here could come up with a rational for bringing about economic change through the courts.

TheBigOldDog on October 26, 2008 at 10:51 PM

I expect a massive loss for the good guys and a purge of RINO’s as well as too many good conservative folk. The only good thing about this election will be the absolute destruction of the RNO wing of the party. When the dems over reach, as they are guaranteed to do, and quickly, and the economy, bad now, sinks into real deep doo-doo, while all those promises are simply nt carried out as the money is simply not there, the folk who believed in that free lunch will have second thoughts.

I have no doubt that Rush, Hannity and the Great One will be all over it tomorrow. It’s starting to heat up.

ManlyRash on October 26, 2008 at 11:19 PM

If McCain loses, it will be because he didn’t double down on getting Independents. Most of the base was going to think Obama was a Muslim/socialist/appeaser/tax raiser/gun grabber and vote for McCain. They didn’t need Palin for that. I just hope this way works.

Speedwagon82 on October 26, 2008 at 11:13 PM

Candidates need to motivate their base, Speed, and McCain was not exactly a Master at motivating conservatives. He need an overtly conservative VP, and he chose one. If he had picked a Ridge, a lot of conservatives would have sat this one out

BTW, there aren’t actually any ‘independent voters’: there are those who cannot make up their minds, and they either don’t vote or vote on the basis on non-rational factors: race, gender, appearance, etc

( so, shasing independent voters is frustrating and can lose you more votes than you might gain )

Again that’s a HUGE video/audio that can reinforce Joe the Plumber big-time, with Obama going on and on and on about redistributing the wealth — and change some on-the-fence minds in this election!

He implies that the problem with the Constitution is that “It doesn’t say what the federal government or the state government must do on your behalf” (!)

He says he’s “not optimistic about bringing about major redistributive change through the courts” (!) In other words, he wishes the courts could force socialism on America although he’s “not optimistic” that the courts can make it happen!

But now he’s running for President, so HE can now make it happen!

Holy cow that audio needs to get out there in a BIG WAY before Youtube yanks it! It’s “spread the wealth” straight out of Obama’s mouth, on and on for 4 minutes long

Edouard on October 26, 2008 at 11:23 PM

Polling article is interesting. IBD has the most street cred right now.

KJ Lopez just put this up at NRO.

David Frum will tell us it’s unimportant tomorrow.

MrScribbler on October 26, 2008 at 11:30 PM

Did you guys even read the comments ON that blog?

The polls have been pretty accurate historically. And the one that is ‘worth warm piss’ has a 3:1 ratio of young voters breaking for McCain compared to Obama.

Are you crazy? That is not happening.

A Axe on October 26, 2008 at 11:31 PM

Can someone make a copy of the tape in case it gets yanked?

Cardiganfox on October 26, 2008 at 11:34 PM

Accurate?? You mean like the exit polls of 2004, or the polls that had Jimmy Cahtah winning by 30 points, or the polls that had Clinton winning by 15 when he actually won by 8? Those polls you mean?

A Axe, you’re an A Ass.

Lincoln on October 26, 2008 at 11:37 PM

If a Katie Couric interview ends up being the turning point of this election, we might as well surrender to the Islamic fundies now, because we are too stupid to have elections.
