“These people are going to try and shred her after the campaign to divert blame from themselves… A number of Gov. Palin’s staff have not had her best interests at heart, and they have not had the campaign’s best interests at heart.”
*
“She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone. She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else.
Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: Divas trust only unto themselves, as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom.”
*
“If you measure tension as the interaction between principles and staff who actually have some authority and are trying to win the election, then we’re fine. If you want to report based on the musings and resentments of hangers on and people who like to pretend they’re in the know then you can probably come up with anything.”

No, I don’t have a “Insane Idiot” category.

Nice! Great city, Nashville. I wish I could have spent more time there before I got jammed with the rugrats. (love’em to death, but they do cut back on the travel)
Now to business.
You guys are all wet on the JTP thing. Why is it so hard to understand that it was the answer that was significant, not the question? What if JTP had turned out to be, what, someone who used to be a GOP political operative? How does that change the salience of Obama’s answer? My hypothetical outcome of the JTP oppo-research is the dream come true of the Obama campaign, so let’s imagine what the spin would then look like. Obama says, “Well, when I made that comment about spreading the wealth around, which I do not repudiate, by the way, I did not know that JTP was really a GOP operative. Now that I know that JTP wasn’t really a plumber, it turns out that his question was at best insincere, and at worst a hostile or a trick question.” Now did that spin change anything in the mind of anyone whose IQ exceeds his shoe size? It doesn’t matter how much you talk about the question, how you spin the questioner’s bona-fides, because the salience is in the ideas behind the question, to the philosophy embedded in the question, and how Obama’s response revealed his philosophy. It doesn’t matter whether the question was sky-writing or whether it was written on an egg that dropped out the backside of a pigeon. The answer was what mattered.

But enough about what women say when they see your penis.
Jim Treacher on October 26, 2008 at 1:54 AM
I agree that the answer is a great topic of discussion. The only problem is that McCain couldn’t care less about that. All he wanted was a good strategy to attack. That included JTP as collateral damage.
mycowardice on October 26, 2008 at 1:54 AM
Roger Waters, for what reason did you adopt the namesake of one of my near-favorite band’s one-time (but since, epic failed) leaders?
You’re on the verge of ruining all of that for me. As if the real Roger Waters hasn’t ruined it already.
Serr8d on October 26, 2008 at 1:54 AM
You are thick aren’t you?
“Spreading the wealth” is socialist. And those people do exist and the fact remains that everyone over the amount Obama uses would fit into that category.
Ad no it wouldn’t cost him millions. He would negotiate a price with the owner that would consider an amount in relation to how much the company made over the previous three years and also take into account any inventory and contracted accounts. Even if he made under the 250K initially, it doesn’t stop him from making the business grow to over the 250K line of punishment.
But all that does not justify the invasion of his private life, ESPECIALLY when those issues have nothing to do with Obama’s answer.
Remember that pesky answer he gave? “Spread the wealth”. That is the issue that Obama and his shills want to obfuscate by playing the smear game against a private citizen. It’s sickening.

Yes, we know normal Americans understand this.
But the Harvard and Yale guys seek their votes from that group of Americans whose IQ is smaller than their shoe size. It’s a match made in Marxist heaven.
Saltysam on October 26, 2008 at 1:59 AM
Let me get this straight. The McCain camp inside the campaign thinks they’re going to pin the blame on Palin? My God, how thick can they get? That’s the ultimate in denial city. For crying out loud, someone show them who they’re going to potentially lose in a landslide to. They wasted all the momentum they gained in unifying their base after the announcement of the selection of Palin for VP. This election was handed to them on a silver platter, and they gagged it away, starting with the craptacular decision to suspend the campaign and help get that pathetically stupid socialist bailout bill passed, which was supported by almost what? 20% of the electorate? Clue phone for Team McCain?!?!?!
I’m glad they’re going down in flames. Let’s usher in some real conservatives with some brains, and flush this blue-blood republican socialist-lite bullshit down the toilet once and for all. And that goes for Buckley, Noonan, and Lopez, et al, too. I hope they stay in their insulated Washington bubble and never become relevant again!
In case you’re wondering, yes, I’ve had a bad night. I just got done watching the worst Ohio State Buckeye O-line performance in my life. We need to get rid of our Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line coach and usher in a coach that will teach them how to be lean, mean and nasty. I’m sick of the overweight big uglies that can’t move and who just want to play patty cake. ARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!
OK. Whew! I feel better now. Rant over.
Tom Blogical on October 26, 2008 at 2:00 AM
How can I be clearer? I agree Obama’s answer can cause quite a concern and needs to be discussed. In our political discourse, “spreading the wealth” has terrible connotations for some like you. I think you’re right in saying that his answer got partially lost in the brouhaha over JTP.
How much would you pay for a business that brings in 250k of gross income?

Roger Waters refused to reunite with the band. Now, since the death last month of Richard Wright, there can be no more Pink Floyd.
Waters is brilliant, but a stubborn asshole. Epic fail, to keep the Floyd separated, until it was too late.

True enough, she’s a big fan of sesame seeds.
Jim Treacher on October 26, 2008 at 2:07 AM
You are very very very very wrong on that.
Waters reunited the band for Live8…Gilmour didnt want to do it but was pressured from Waters and the organizer.
Waters has made it very very clear over and over that he wanted to reunite the band but Gilmour has consistently refused saying that he is too old and he prefers his dogshit music like “On An Island”.
The reason Gilmour refused to allow the band with its main songwriter and genius, Waters, involved is because it would expose Gilmour for what he was…a great guitarist who is utterly devoid if inspiration, ideas, or the ability to create anything. He would rather sing Roger’s songs and pretend he had something to do with them.
Gilmour is the evil one who refused to reunite the band. Roger Waters created and made all the great albums and songs of Pink Floyd, then left when the other 3 werent helping, then was upset when Gilmour invented Pink Fraud, then forgave him and tried to get the orignal band back together only to be rebuffed by the two assholes who became rich and famous ONLY because of Roger Waters….their names are David Gilmour and Rick Wright.

Tom Blogical on October 26, 2008 at 2:09 AM
As any teenager would tell you–like duh! Of course McCain is looking for an angle of attack. If he weren’t doing that he’d be an idiot. The great thing about what Obama said was that it actually revealed something about who he actually is. We don’t know much about him thanks to our notoriously selectively-incurious media, so how nice of him to lay it out there for us. As for collateral damage, you mention that is if it were McCain who was responsible, not the idiots in the media, or the oppo-team from Obama’s campaign (I know that I’m making a distinction w/o a difference here), for the trashing of JTP. No agency, no responsiblity on the part of those who did the trashing it seems. You aren’t guilty of the soft bigotry of low expectations are you?
smellthecoffee on October 26, 2008 at 2:09 AM
He also said he wants to “spread the wealth”. Maybe someone should tell Biden, since he is confused enough to claim that’s what Bush is doing.

Forgive me, but I had to get back to this………..
“mycowrdice”…… Let me put it this way…..
When you get up in the morning and turn the lights on, not only are you paying for electricity and heating, you are taxed……..
The food you made for breakfast, when you bought it, you were taxed, even though we were once told food would not be…
The water you bathe in, taxed….
The soap, shaving cream, deodorant, all taxed……..
The clothes you put on…… taxed upon purchase……
The car you get into…… taxed…. to upkeep the roads of course, but the money always goes into the general fund, so of course, we need a new tax, on gas, …… for the roads.
The gas you put into your car……. Federal and State taxes, and then a Sales tax on the purchase, or otherwise known as a tax on a tax………
The income that you achieve by being productive……. taxed..
Your savings…… taxed….
You go to the beach or enjoy a National Park that we already pay taxes for……. Daily Permit Fee…. a tax…
Get married……. guess what……. tax penalty….
In California, we are going on twenty elections in a row for more “funding for the children” initiatives…… tax…
Social Security…… you pay into all your life….. tax, but when you die, if you did not put away a nest egg for your family, they get nothing, and if you did…… death tax…..
This goes on and on and on and on and on…….. and YOU want me to believe someone like Obama is going to make it stop when he wants to “spread the wealth around”?
It amazes me that you even try to add to the otherwise intelligent conversation that goes on here…….. then it hit me……….
……………. you are still living with your parents.

Anyway, screw “Senior Republican Advisors.” They’ve been doing a seriously crappy job for the last several years, I wouldn’t listen to them either. They’re just looking for someone to pin blame on if they blow this election for McCain and they’re terrified that a REAL REPUBLICAN might be in charge of the party for the next several years and they and their crappy, crappy advise will be ignored like it should have been all along.

Jim Treacher on October 26, 2008 at 2:17 AM
Ummm…no.
After that disaster ‘The Final Cut’, Waters was done. He left the band, and sued to shut it down. Gilmore and Wright won and kept going.
Waters was the reason the plug was pulled. ‘The Final Cut’, Water’s choice of swan songs, sorta gives that away, don’t you think?
‘Momentary Lapse of Reason’ smoked any of Water’s solo performances.
Oh well. The best was the ’70’s stuff, with Dark Side the pinnacle.

Secret picture of Roger Waters captured as he typed.
MadisonConservative on October 26, 2008 at 2:20 AM
Impossible to say, but it wouldn’t be the millions you suggest.
The larger a business gets, the lower the profit margin needs to be in order to fit the desired model of profitability. Around 3% depending on the gross. A business making 250K per year still has to have a profit margin higher than that. With Obama taking an extra 3% after $250K, it just doesn’t make sense to make a penny over $249,999.99 or a penny less than a much higher amount. He will create a donut hole that swallows up the small businesses that have a greater ability to expand if they were left alone. A small business that is headed toward the $250K mark is just starting to get it’s sea legs. Obama will quash the growth and thus costing jobs.

smellthecoffee on October 26, 2008 at 2:23 AM
Wait. You just said that Waters wouldnt reunite the band and I mentioned that it was Waters that DID reunite the band and tried to reunite the band after Live8 and you come back with Momentary Lapse of Reason? Are you aware that there Momentary Lapse of Reason was written by about 10 people all trying to sound like Roger Waters and failing miserably. Rick Wright was a session musician on the album and had nothing to do with it, neither did Mason. Gilmour hired people to try to sound like Roger. The closest they came was Learning to Fly which was written by Jon Carin. Momentary Lapse of Reason is NOT Pink Floyd. Even Nick Mason will tell you that. Plus, its a horrid album.
Then, with Division Smell, Gilmour got his wife to write the songs….just like in the movie Spinal Tap. total dogcrap. Horrible. But, he would go on tour and sing Rogers songs (money, brick in wall, brain damage) and that was how he would make his money…not off those horrid songs from those Pink Fraud albums.
The last pink floyd album was Amused to Death. Best album since The Final Cut which was also brilliant.

1GooDDaDDy on October 26, 2008 at 2:28 AM
I don’t get your math. If your business earns you (after the expenses) 250k, I would sell that for millions of dollars. Why would I sell that for anything less? When you buy it from me, you know that you will earn 250k for the years that follow.
Also, the 3% argument doesn’t make sense. The extra 3% is levied on the profits. It will be 3% of the profits, not the whole profit.
So if you make 500k profit, the 3% increase would lower your profits by 250k*.03 = 7.5k … You would refuse to make 158k ? (Versus a baseline of 165k if you are taking a 33% tax rate).
