Comedy gold: WFTV interviews Biden

Each question is funnier than the last, culminating with, “Are you forewarning Americans that nothing will be done and that America’s days as the world’s leading power are over?” As if he might say, “Sure.” She probably figured she was in for the same old talking points everyone’s heard from both sides umpteen thousand times by now, so she might as well shoot for viral video immortality by making him squirm. Mission accomplished. On to the petty campaign revenge!

Oh, his claim that Team Barry hasn’t paid a penny to ACORN for GOTV efforts? Highly nuanced.

YOU’RE PUNISHED: OBAMA CAMPAIGN CUTS OFF TV STATION AFTER TOUGH BIDEN INTERVIEW..

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment_tv_tvblog/2008/10/obama-campaign.html

JUST WAIT AND SEE WHAT OBAMA WILL DO WITH REAL POWER!!

…so it becomes clear that Joe Biden’s response to a difficult situation is to go to a happy little fantasy land where he is always right.
Oh, that just gives me udles of warm fuzzy confidence for his performance as Vice President or President.

Count to 10 on October 25, 2008 at 8:52 PM

No one is talking about her prior interview that went fine.

I posted a link to it 7 hours ago and in all the stories, still no reference to it.

I think it is prudent because it shows she is not a shill, and she has done normal interviews with Biden int he past, which he expected more of the same, well, the last question was one that even Biden laughed at and in some ways, was a warning for her recent interview.

WoosterOh on October 25, 2008 at 8:55 PM

Politicians surely are a slimy, slippery bunch, aren’t they? No wonder no one trusts them. Biden is a master deflector even though it is obvious to everyone, he probably thinks he is telling it like it is.

It must be difficult deluding yourself every day that you are actually on the people’s side. But then again, after the first couple of years, maybe it just becomes who you really are.

Mr_Magoo on October 25, 2008 at 8:56 PM

IT’S ABOUT TIME somebody got a chance to really put the hard questions to these guys, and actually do it. Now, of course, a federal investigation is going to be opened, the station is going to be pillaried for being biased and untrustworthy, Obama’s “truth squad” goons are going to move in and start making arrests, and if the “fairness” doctrine returns, they’ll lose their broadcast license.

In truth, there’s nothing slick about these guys. Anybody with common sense knows they can’t back their positions, intellectually, and this is just a graphic demonstration of that for those that were unable to see through the lies and smoke. Naturally, though, we all know this interview never happened, and will never be acknowledged by the DNC or the Obama/Biden ticket.

Barbara West interview of McCain on 10-14-08.

Kind of normal and good questions, but they were all attacks on Obama and his camp. In some aspects the Biden interview was a follow-up, equal time.

WoosterOh on October 25, 2008 at 9:21 PM

Joe defines a tax break for the top 1% as a redistribution upward, yet denies that a tax break for the middle class is redistribution downward.

Dave Rywall on October 25, 2008 at 10:25 PM

As of 2006 the top 1% of taxpayers pay more income taxes than the bottom 95% of taxpayers. The total effective tax rate for the middle quintile of taxpayers is the lowest it’s been in the nearly thirty years they’ve been tracking the stat under Bush’s tax regime. The bottom 50% of taxpayers now pay lees than 3% of income taxes and under Obama’s plan even that will disappear leaving us in a state where a working majority of the population will have no stake in the society other than as receivers of stolen property. Unfortunately, the leftists have been so successful in creating dependency in an increasing portion of the populus that Obama and his socialist enablers no longer raise any red flags for most of the people who’ll be voting for the next President
The Founders recognized the human tendency of democratic systems to degenerate into this kind of take from the rich cesspool and tried their best to design our system to provide mechanisms to restrain it, but we have allowed politicians to continually erode those protections and now face the fruits of that neglect.
Many of you are probably to young to remember a wonderful political comic strip called “Pogo”, but it was responsible for one of the great posters from my younger days. It said quite simply, “We have met the enemy and he is us.”

djaces on October 25, 2008 at 10:27 PM

The Obama camp then killed a WFTV interview with Biden’s wife Jill, according to an Orlando Sentinel blog.

McGinnis, Central Florida communications director for the Obama campaign, according to the Sentinel.

You’re just not used to hard questions directed at our candidates. We Repubs have gotten sort of used to it–just compare the tone of this interview to almost any Palin has had to deal with from the usual mainstream media sources. There were no gotchas. And Biden was given ample time, uninterrupted, to answer the questions.

Let me be the dissent on this interview.

I honestly didn’t think she did that good of a job and he actually did well spinning the question back to their talking points.

In other words, if you’re a moderate undecided, he didn’t say anything you haven’t heard before and neither did she.

IMHO, what makes a tough interview is not the original question on a subject but rather the follow up to the attempted spin.

In this interview she didn’t go for the jugular with a follow up.

E.g. Regarding the question on Sen. Biden’s remarks about Sen. Obama inviting an attack.

The follow up that would have nailed him should have been;

“But Senator, in your comments you didn’t say that it was every President. You said, ‘We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America … Watch. We’re going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy’. Senator, if you were talking about every President, why did you say 47-year old?”

Next follow up;

“Senator Biden, what exactly did you mean when you said, “And he’s going to need help . . . to stand with him. Because it’s not going to be apparent initially; it’s not going to be apparent that we’re right.”?”

Although she did something we haven’t that often (if any) from MSM outlets, I do believe she could have gutted him, but held back.

It’s remarkable how many times either Senators Obama or Biden or someone from their campaign says soemthing, only to ‘clarify’ it later after there is some backlash.

SNL’s opening skit was a riot! Murtha and Biden were talking to PA. Murtha kept explaining his comment about racial PA and digging himself deeper in a hole. At one point Murtha’s impersonator said, “Have any of you seen the movie Deliverance.” Biden’s impersonator was mostly quoting Biden and the looming crisis when Obama gets elected.

Really funny. Humor is funny when it contains great elements of truth.

Dave Rywall on October 25, 2008 at 10:25 PM

Boo friggin’ hoo, Dave Rywall.

You sound pathetic, just like Barrack Hussein Obama, Joseph Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barney Frank, Bill Maher, Joy Behar, and similar wackos.

Too bad that Biden was asked good questions, questions that he did not have the stomach for. He came off as a complete sissy, a girly man, a momma’s boy, and he had no guts, nor integrity, and he even seemed to emit a bit of misogyny there, along with his condescending, arrogant attitude.

Dave Rywall, Biden and Obama are running for VP and President of the USA. They SHOULD be able to handle these things, but they cannot, yet they might still be elected, which shows how idiotic our country men are, and how inept our media are that they did not do their job during the campaign, but favored Obama, and chose to attack Sarah Palin.

Clearly Sarah Palin is the ONLY candidate who actually has the stomach, and the experience, for this job, while Obama, who spent most of his two years as Senator campaigning for the POTUS spot, and Biden, who is a blow hard, mindless nut who “served” ineptly as a “Senator,” have zero to no executive experience, thus are not as qualified to serve as POTUS and VPOTUS as Sarah Palin.

In fact, John McCain, the nut who goes after his own party with more vigor than he goes after the enemy – Democrat Party, even during a campaign, has less executive experience than Sarah Palin.

Dave Rywall,

Clearly, Sarah Palin is the most qualified of all four candidates, yet she has been the target of the most misogynist, hate filled, low blow, foul attacks and engineered “gotcha” so-called “interviews,” and distorted, dishonest news reports, while Obama and Biden got a complete pass.

So, stop whining, Dave. You only come off as a sissy, whereas Sarah Palin comes off as more manly, with more gonads than you, Obama, and Biden have, combined, and clearly has a better personality, more strength, and more personallity than any of you have.

Sarah Palin for President.

Obama and Biden for Rattlesnake Wrangler!

William2006 on October 26, 2008 at 12:04 AM

1. Barbara West showed some real character and professionalism in how she asked the questions. She was calm and collected, obviously prepared, and very serious. She never showed anger, delight, or any other emotion. I’m mailing her a “thank you” note. She’s going to go places.
2. WFTV shouldn’t be surprised by the response: anyone remember the Democratic debate sponsored by Foxnews? Probably not, since the Democrats boycotted the debate.
3. Since WFTV won’t get anyone from Obama’s staff back for a follow-up, these good journalists should replay this interview every night until the election.
4. O’Reilly should have her on his show sometime this week (not because I like/dislike O’Reilly, but because he has such a huge audience).

Exactly what was wrong with the questions she asked? They were only questions and they were framed in the same exact way that Palin was asked about the magazines she read. The difference is that Biden was asked questions relevant to the positions that Obama espouses.

I think the problem you are having is that Greasy Joe didn’t do a very good job of answering them. He lied at least 4 times and obfuscated the truth on the rest.

capitalist piglet on October 26, 2008 at 1:39 AM

Most liberals are going to be outraged that Biden was asked serious tough questions, and they as usual will assert that Biden won and that there is something wrong with the reporter.

Most conservatives are thrilled that Biden was finally asked a serious, tough question.

It’s how the independents and undecided saw this that is/will be important.

I think they saw a reporter ask questions that they themselves have about Obama and Biden, and they saw Biden belittle the reporter and very slickly answer the questions without being truthful, and by sidestepping them.

For politicians that’s pretty routine. But then they saw the Obama campaign criticize the reporter and station, and refuse to allow anyone from that station to interview anyone from his compaign. In fact they cancelled Jill Biden’s interview.

What stands out is this:

1. If you don’t toe the party line you are ridiculed.

2. If you don’t toe the party line then Obama and company will enact revenge. In this instance it is simply because the reporter asked questions Obama and Co. didn’t like.

3. Ultimately the attempted response is to shut down anyone they don’t like and/or doesn’t toe the party line.

That is what independents and undecided voters saw. I think the Obama campaign made a BIG mistake when they decided to respond to the reporter in this way, and it is going to cost him.

Obama’s Redistribution of wealth

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read “Vote Obama, I need the money.” I laughed.

Once in the restaurant my server had on a “Obama 08″ tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference — just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need–the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I’ve decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn,
but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient needed the money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.

I’m sure most will disagree, but this interviewer came off as if this was one of the first times she’s been on TV. She came off very awkward, and she didn’t seem like a reporter trying to get some depth on various topics, but instead looked like a partisan hack who wanted to go after Biden.

If a reporter came after Palin like this, most of us would, rightfully, be upset. There are certain ways to ask a question and certain ways to deal with those you’re interviewing…her tactic, unfortunately, screamed ‘republican talking points.’

Nothing wrong with one reporter out of a thousand asking questions Republicans want answered. The fact that legitimate questions overlap with talking points is irrelevant. If I, a voter, could ask Obama a question, it would probably be one of hers.

Ronnie on October 26, 2008 at 7:19 AM

This was a spoof, right? A parody? Like the parodies that Rush Limbaugh runs on his radio show? It was a parody of a news anchor asking ‘tough’ questions?

Or was it a spoof of the old TV series Perry Mason where under intense, dramatic questioning the real killer suddenly stands up and confesses to the crime?

Would ’surreal’ cover it?

After this interview, anyone expressing any of those concerns is immediately identified as a right wing extremist crack pot like Joe McCarthy, right?

Republican on October 25, 2008 at 11:48 PM

No Joe, you and Barry are the joke!

grapeknutz on October 26, 2008 at 8:59 AM

yeah like his practce Q&A sessions with his staff didn’t cover this? Keep it up. America needs to know these guys are bad news now rather than letting them getting in office to see this kinda suff. We all have a ballot to make the differance. Lord help us.

If a reporter came after Palin like this, most of us would, rightfully, be upset.

TheBlueSite on October 26, 2008 at 3:37 AM

What planet are you living on? Magazines? Clothing? Is Trig really hers? Tanning beds? Medical records and Obama gives a one page note from his doctor?

Good God! Where do you people come from? Your grandma’s basement?

csdeven on October 26, 2008 at 9:36 AM

I just think its unreal that those kinds of questions have to be being asked at all, but dammit they have to be and its a gods honest shame to have a person get this far into the election process with a background like he has. Listen to Obamas soundbites and look at his associations. People don’t think this guy is bad news? ya gotta be shidden me. Nixon said once if the CLintons ever got in office that the country truely had gone to hell, but Obama? Multiply that by 10000. Folks were talking socialism vs capitalism. Forget he’s black and million man marcher blah blah, we’re talkin irreversible damage to the U.S. a country where brother fought brother to keep together and how us citizens function with said country. uhg…I think I need a pill.

Dunno about the last two but all the stuff about her kids and those who published those stories were rightly flogged for unprofessional behavior. As for the clothing and personal expenses like make-up, those are legitimate issues when using campaign funds. Especially when there are all these reports about the campaign coming up short and having to pull out of several states due to a lack of funding.

Let’s See—–

. A Guy named Joe , who happens to be a plumber with ambitions for a bigger business, questioned and challenged a Guy named Barack, who happens to be running for President of the US/Leader of the Free World…

And with in 24 hours the Media has given us more information about Joe’s life than they’ve given us about Barack’s life in the past 18 months.

Thanks to a diligent press corps , we now know about Joe’s professional licensing status, his income tax situation, his employment history, his domestic squabbles, his voting record, everything associated with his personal identity; his education…. It’s probably been reported somewhere whether he wears boxers or briefs.

Thanks to a lazy & biased press corps… We still don’t know what grades Obama made in college; how he got into Harvard; when he met Bill “the bomber” Ayers; when he stopped doing illegal drugs; his medical history; whether he still smokes cigarettes; the extent of his affiliation with socialist/communist organizations; why he’s no longer a licensed attorney; whether he lied on his Bar application;—-

Whether he’d qualify for a security clearance if he were just an “average Joe;” what passport he used to travel to Pakistan in 1981; who his ex-girlfriends are; whether he was or still is an Indonesian citizen; why his Kenyan grandmother insists he was born there; whether he was ever legally named Barry Soetoro or anything else besides Barack Hussein Obama—–;

Why he needed the help of a crook to purchase his family home; where he was on Nov. 6 and 7, 1999; what the long-version of his birth certificate says; why he helped an anti-American, pro-Islamic candidate for Kenyan President against US interests; why he listened to Rev. Wright’s sermons for 20 years; how many times he took his kids to a Rev. Wright sermon; what he actually did as chair of the Annenberg Challenge; the depth of his relationship with ACORN…
Well, you get the idea.

But, really, I am SO relieved that the Mainstream Media has done its job vetting Joe The Plumber, who is NOT running for public office, but who had the AUDACITY to challenge Barack Hussein Obama, who wants my vote for President of the United States of America.’

Enough with Joe the Plumber, the MSM now has a new target to destroy; Barbara West.

BTW: Drywall shows us once again that he is pure 100% limp-d pussified cry baby.

This election year let’s be reminded of these words:

* You cannot help the poor, by destroying the rich.
* You cannot strengthen the weak, by weakening the strong.
* You cannot bring about prosperity, by discouraging thrift.
* You cannot lift the wage earner up, by pulling the wage payer down.
* You cannot further the brotherhood of man, by inciting class hatred.
* You cannot build character and courage, by taking away men’s initiative and independence.
* You cannot help 20 men permanently, by doing for them what they could and should, do for themselves.
Do you recognize the author?

It was Abraham Lincoln

Very, very wise words, written years ago and we still don’t get it…

Notice to All Employees

As of November 5, 2008 , when President Obama is officially elected into office, our company will instill a few new policies which are in keeping with his new, inspiring issues of change and fairness:

1. All salespeople will be pooling their sales and bonuses into a common pool that will be divided equally between all of you. This will serve to give those of you who are underachieving a “fair shake.”

2. All low level workers will be pooling their wages, including overtime, into a common pool, dividing it equally amongst yourselves. This will help those who are “too busy for overtime” to reap the rewards from those who have more spare time and can work extra hours.

3. All top management will now be referred to as “the government.” We will not participate in this “pooling” experience because the law doesn’t apply to us.

4. The “government” will give eloquent speeches to all employees every week, encouraging it’s workers to continue to work hard “for the good of all.”

5. The employees will be thrilled with these new policies because it’s “good to spread the wealth.” Those of you who have underachieved will finally get an opportunity; those of you who have worked hard and had success will feel more “patriotic.”

6. The last few people who were hired should clean out their desks. Don’t feel bad, though, because President Obama will give you free healthcare, free handouts, free oil for heating your home, free food stamps, and he’ll let you stay in your home for as long as you want even if you can’t pay your mortgage. If you appeal directly to our democratic congress, you might even ge t a free flat screen TV and a coupon for free haircuts (shouldn’t all Americans be entitled to nice looking hair?) !!!

Keemo on October 26, 2008 at 10:06 AM

The Obama trolls must be getting worried, every thread on the HA site is overrun with as*hole comments by them- I know it’s fun for some of you to take them on, but it makes me not bother reading the other comments.

as for this reporter, I thought she was pretty good- not a lot of emotion, but Biden didn’t rattle her either. Biden’s a lying tool, always has been and once again, if the friggin’ media had done ANY kind of job, he’d have been laughed off the ticket. I seriously think he’s either a raving alcoholic, or has suffered serious brain damage from his aneurysms.

anniekc on October 26, 2008 at 10:13 AM

Important distinction that NEEDS to be made over and over again between now and Nov. 4.

When Obama talks about reducing taxes for 95% of working Americans he is only talking about income taxes. He is not talking about payroll taxes which is where the funding for new programs will come from.

The nationalized health care plan the Dems are salivating about is a 7% payroll tax, the new retirement plan to replace our 401k’s is a 5% payroll tax, and the wage insurance is a 1% payroll tax for a total new tax burden of 13%. Add that to the current 6% Social Security payroll tax and the 1% (or more) Medicare payroll tax and we’re looking at a payroll tax burden in excess of 20% which is not subject to the deductions the income tax is.

No one is exempt from payroll taxes so Obama is simply lying.

DerKrieger on October 26, 2008 at 10:40 AM

He got real questions and as the interview went on, I noticed his great smile disappeared, just like he got smacked in the face. hehe

la.rt.wngr on October 26, 2008 at 11:01 AM

Someone needs to make clear to the dems that we are not a Third World Country. At least not yet.
Elect these two clowns and it’s an open question.
The reaction to this interview is all about controlling the press, nothing more nothing less. Something they have done since the beginning of this campaign(with a willing MSM, I might add).
If only a few more journalist would do what Barbara the Journalist and Joe the Plumber have done than there is no doubt these two would not even be in the running.

Gulf Coast on October 26, 2008 at 11:11 AM

The only problem I had with the interview was Barbara did not ask any follow up questions.
Then again, Biden would have probably walked off the set.
