Comedy gold: WFTV interviews Biden

posted at 1:00 pm on October 25, 2008 by Allahpundit

Each question is funnier than the last, culminating with, “Are you forewarning Americans that nothing will be done and that America’s days as the world’s leading power are over?” As if he might say, “Sure.” She probably figured she was in for the same old talking points everyone’s heard from both sides umpteen thousand times by now, so she might as well shoot for viral video immortality by making him squirm. Mission accomplished. On to the petty campaign revenge!

Oh, his claim that Team Barry hasn’t paid a penny to ACORN for GOTV efforts? Highly nuanced.

Finally a journalist that does their job. ‘Bout time. Kudos to that Anchor.

How? The BoTox has deadened everything from his eyebrows to the back of his neck and especially in between his ears.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on October 25, 2008 at 1:07 PM

They need to cut an ad immediately with Obama saying “it’s good for everybody to spread the wealth around” and then Biden saying “He is not spreading the wealth around” DO IT NOW!

Great interview, at least one member of the media is doing their job.

A little late don’tcha think.

Good interview, weird ending though. Seemed kooky to go back to the socialism question after she had just grilled him on it.

Btw, did any of you see Biden shake his head in disbelief at 4:23? That was priceless, lol. He was so pissed.

nickj116 on October 25, 2008 at 1:12 PM

I dont know, we may love her questions, but they almost seem disingenuous, but his answers are just as bad.

She should expect to have the state look into her records for questioning the One.

What is strange is that you cant find that interview on the wftv.com home page.

At least I glanced around and did a page search for Biden, only found one link (Joe Biden To Campaign In Central Florida Next Week), on their home page.

Are they trying to send it down the memory hole>

WoosterOh on October 25, 2008 at 1:18 PM

That was fun! Good job Ms. West.

Zorro on October 25, 2008 at 1:19 PM

WHO IS THIS WOMAN? Did you see her face when he asked if the question was a joke? This interview sounded like a mother scolding a child. Little Joey was spanked but good. This man lies like a Persian rug.

He was SHOCKED to have someone hold him and BHO accountable for their dopey gaffes and ridiculously liberal voting records.

When confronted with your own words and deeds – just lie some more.

DeweyWins on October 25, 2008 at 1:20 PM

And to think the Dems are worried about Sarah!!! This buffoon must be a laughing stock where ever he goes.

jeanie on October 25, 2008 at 1:21 PM

NewsBusters has a link to more of the aftermath from the Orlando Sentinel. There are three posts up there about this: here, here and here.

From the first one:

Biden so disliked West’s line of questioning that the Obama campaign canceled a WFTV interview with Jill Biden, the candidate’s wife.

“This cancellation is non-negotiable, and further opportunities for your station to interview with this campaign are unlikely, at best for the duration of the remaining days until the election,” wrote Laura K. McGinnis, Central Florida communications director for the Obama campaign.

McGinnis said the Biden cancellation was “a result of her husband’s experience yesterday during the satellite interview with Barbara West.”…

WFTV news director Bob Jordan said, “When you get a shot to ask these candidates, you want to make the most of it. They usually give you five minutes.”

Jordan said political campaigns in general pick and choose the stations they like. And stations often pose softball questions during the satellite interviews.

“Mr. Biden didn’t like the questions,” Jordan said. “We choose not to ask softball questions.”

Jordan added, “I’m crying foul on this one.”

INC on October 25, 2008 at 1:21 PM

Barbara West is probably going to need a new job by sometime next year at the latest. I didn’t know journalists were aloud to ask Democrats real questions. I doubt the liberals will let her get away with this crime.

Barbara West is a Great Girl-Gunslinger. I’ve seen her before….Fire away…Smilin’ Smokin’ Joe.

gracie on October 25, 2008 at 1:24 PM

The second Orlando Sentinel link has this:

The campaign cited “an unprofessional interview” that WFTV’s Barbara West conducted with Joe Biden on Thursday. WFTV news director Bob Jordan has defended the interview as hard-hitting and unlike many satellite interviews where softball questions are posed.

In a statement Friday afternoon, Adrianne Marsh, Florida spokeswoman for Obama’s campaign, said the station, in talking with Sen. Biden, was “both combative and woefully uninformed about simple facts.”

Marsh said West’s insistence that Obama was an organizer for ACORN was “100 percent false.” “In a line of questioning that would make Rush Limbaugh proud, West even went as far as to quote Karl Marx, a Communist icon, in a disturbing attempt to associate Barack Obama with socialism,” Marsh wrote.

In the third one, Barbara West says this:

I got right down to it and, yes, I think I asked him some pointed questions. These are questions that are rolling about right now and questions that need to be asked. I don’t think I was rude or inconsiderate to him. I think I was probing and maybe tough. I can’t believe that in all of his years in politics, and all of his campaigning and such, that he hasn’t run into some tough questions before. He’s certainly up to it in giving good answers.

INC on October 25, 2008 at 1:25 PM

West even went as far as to quote Karl Marx, a Communist icon, in a disturbing attempt to associate Barack Obama with socialism,” Marsh wrote. West said, “I think I asked him some pointed questions. . . . I don’t think I was rude or inconsiderate to him.”

KP, take note of this.

She was completely professional and gracious.

But remember: Anything less than total sycophancy from the Obamedia is considered “combative.”

Keep Barbara West in your thoughts and prayers. She can expect the Joe the Plumber treatment any minute now.

…using government computers, and labor, paid for by us, the “middle class” Der Gaffenmeister so ‘loves’.

If our media had any, these kinds of interviews, for both sides, w/b de rigueur.

An earlier interview from Sept 26, 2008

Shows she is fair as she did not blind side him here, so use this against the left.

Stay around for her last question though.

WoosterOh on October 25, 2008 at 1:26 PM

Answering the Marxist question, Crazy Joe Biden denied BHO’s desire and proclaimed, while giggling, “He’s not spreading the wealth around.”

Uh …

progressoverpeace on October 25, 2008 at 1:26 PM

Now I guess Biden knows how TV interviews feel like for the average conservative politician.

frankj on October 25, 2008 at 1:27 PM

This makes me proud to be from Orlando and want to move back. :)

bj1126 on October 25, 2008 at 1:27 PM

…West even went as far as to quote Karl Marx,

a Communist icon

,

Gotta love how they act appalled at the mention of socialism, but yet cannot slander Karl Marx the Great.

I can’t believe people believe a word out of this guy’s mouth.

darclon on October 25, 2008 at 1:29 PM

What a smug dick.

But was that Joan Rivers of Joey Biden? Man, that skin’s stretched tighter than Buddy Rich’s snare drum.

benrand on October 25, 2008 at 1:33 PM

But remember: Anything less than total sycophancy from the Obamedia is considered “combative.”

That’s it in a nutshell.

Biden acted appalling because she actually asked real questions of him. And then to cancel his wife’s interview!?!

This is just unbelievable. Wimps.

tru2tx on October 25, 2008 at 1:33 PM

I loved it.

I was sorry that she was not quick enough on her feet to grill Biden on the inconsistencies; he left her plenty of openings. As good cross-examiner would have had Biden walking off the set.

Good to see somebody from Team Zero get the Palin treatment.

RJGatorEsq. on October 25, 2008 at 1:33 PM

This is the perfect little campaign ad for the final week. BHO telling Joe that he wants to “spread the wealth around” and then this interview, asking why it isn’t Marxism and having Biden flatly laugh off the notion that BHO is “spreading the wealth around”. It looks like a winner to me.

Wouldn’t it be a hell of an October Surprise if someone dared ask similar questions of Osama Obama?

The lefty-loons can dish it out, but they crumble when they are treated equally.

So, Barack-baby, how ’bout Ayers, Rezko, Wright, Odinga, Pfleger, your unknown past and that pesky invisible birth certificate, huh?

We won’t even give you the full McCain-Palin treatment and ask you about your drug use….

I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS SH!T:

Obama camp to file FEC complaint against McCain
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) plans to file a fundraising complaint Monday alleging that John McCain’s campaign accepted contributions that exceeded the federal limits and took donations from anonymous backers.

The balls the Democrats have is nothing short of pure evil.

FiveWays on October 25, 2008 at 1:41 PM

Joe Biden takes douchebag to a whole new level.
He couldn’t believe that he was being asked the questions that the MSM should be asking the One.

What an smug jackass.

For all the commies and socialists foreign and domestic supporting Barack’s candidacy, Biden’s statement that only the right wing believe Obama’s policies are socialist is a head scratcher.

eaglewingz08 on October 25, 2008 at 1:44 PM

Well, it’s only a matter of time……..

Shortly after the interview, Barbara West’s DMV, Social Security, and Banking information were accessed by “unknown” sources and leaked to the MSM………

…… in other news, Barbara West once had a traffic ticket, owes money to the bank, and has held multiple jobs in her life time.

……………. Barbara West was recently laid off from her Newscaster position due to “the state of the economy”, and has not been heard of or seen since……….

I noticed Biden had a new meme on why we would be tested.

“We’ll be tested because we’re stretched too thin around the world.”

Huh? What happened to our enemies testing amateur Obama’s spine of steel? Wow, full circle to Bush’s fault. Darn that Bush, he stretched us too thin and kept us protected and safe for seven years without a single terrorist strike on our homeland following 9/11.

Lesson learned by Democraps ….. deploying our troops to all corners of the earth to keep us safe is bad, electing Obama to be tested by a crisis generated by terrorists is good.

I think that was due more to a lack of time. Her response about the line of questioning was that they get “four precious minutes” and that she wasn’t going to waste it with softball questions.

Really though, she was very pointed and very direct – and it’s ridiculous to ping her on that. If I was in her shoes, I would not have identified the source of that quote. I would’ve simply said, “There is an old quote -” given him the quote, asked if he agreed with it and THEN shared the source of it.

But that’s because I want to destroy his campaign. I thought the way she asked it rather fairly gave him a heads up not to agree to the quote – which involved a direct contradiction to what he said 10 seconds previously, and what Obama said.

I like this quote from the reporter though:

I think I was probing and maybe tough. I can’t believe that in all of his years in politics, and all of his campaigning and such, that he hasn’t run into some tough questions before. He’s certainly up to it in giving good answers.
