Bachmann ad:”My heart is right”; Update: Challenge

Our friend Michele Bachmann has a new ad out for the final ten days of the campaign, and it corrects a mistake she made in last week’s appearance on Hardball. “I may not always get my words right,” Rep. Bachmann says, “but I know my heart is right”:
Once again our nation is at a crossroads, and it’s a time for choosing. We could embrace government as the answer to our problems, or we can choose freedom and liberty.
I may not always get my words right, but I know that my heart is right. Because my heart is for you, for your children and for the blessings of liberty to remain for our great country.
Her opponent, Elwyn Tinklenburg, has tried to make a lot of hay on Bachmann’s exchange with Chris Matthews last week. The DCCC has decided to sink money into the Sixth CD at the same time that the NRCC had to pull out to conserve resources for closer races. But Tinklenburg has had his own problems with shooting off his mouth on television. When the St. Anthony Bridge collapsed in August 2007, Tinklenburg waited three whole hours before telling local newscasters that Republicans were to blame for the deaths because they blocked an increase in the gas tax to pay for bridge inspections. As it turned out, the bridge got inspected regularly, but it was a design flaw that created the problem and actual maintenance that exacerbated it.
Sometimes people make mistakes. Michele doesn’t explicitly apologize for the remarks she made after carelessly falling into the rhetorical trap laid by Matthews, but she acknowledges her error. Sixth CD voters should remember her tireless work for smaller government and lower taxes when they go to the ballot box, and this ad helps remind them of it.
If the NRCC’s withdrawal from this race angers you, you can still contribute directly to Bachmann here.
Update: I decided that the NRCC withdrawal angered me enough to contribute $100 today to Michele. Who wants to match it? Better yet, who wants to beat it? Send me the receipt from your matching or exceeding donation and a link to your blog, and I’ll post it in an update here.
Update II: Here are the challenge winners:

Michele Bachmann has been a strong advocate for limited government. She voted against the $700B++ bail out twice, which should be enough right there to re-elect her. She has a 100 percent ACU rating as well. Go Michele.

Good morning, all!
Michele Bachmann is one of us. Why is the NRCC supporting Don Young and not her?
As Rush said, win or lose November 4th, conservatives need to reclaim and reform the Republican Party.

We Libertarian Republicans stand by Michelle Bachman!
You will win Michelle. And be prepared for a Draft Michelle for VP effort on Nov. 5, to run with our gal Sarah Palin for 2012!!!

I’m still astonished that any Republican would go on MSNBC without at least watching it first. Why not just jump on a pile of vipers or take a dip in a piranha tank?

It is only going to get worse…in a few years she will be fined for what she said.

Don Young? The GOP just can’t help itself, can it?

Also, don’t forget to look in a mirror. You can be your own hero–even if it’s nothing more than blackening an oval on election day or writing a check for the campaign of the candidate you support.
If Obama gets elected, in the days, months, and years to come, we’re all going to have to find our “inner heroes”.
Matt Helm on October 25, 2008 at 9:21 AM
When I heard the NRCC pulled out on her a couple of days ago, I got online with my credit card. She’s a tough lady. Go MB; beat them back.
BuckeyeSam on October 25, 2008 at 9:23 AM
Michele Bachmann got her words right and she has nothing to apologize for. The RNC owes her and all of us an apology.
winemkr on October 25, 2008 at 9:23 AM
Morning all,
Crissy said the words “un-American”, she just repeated what HE said and is now going through a “Joe the plumber” moment.
I’ve heard her defending herself on this subject on at least 5 different talk radio shows in the last few days, but the RNC cowards are still willing to toss her to the curb.
Welcome to a new dawn of politics if ‘the one’ gets his feet under the presidents desk.
Oh…a little O/T but fits right in here as far as not playing into the Bambi’s “New World Order” like Michele Bachmann. Threats and intimidation is the norm now.
Bless her.
Over.

She called a spade a spade.
FWIW: when you hit “Home” and return to the Hot Air main page, it provides an interesting juxtaposition of pictures, doesn’t it? A too-many-term nitwit who’s crowing about the uses Obama will be making of defense spending cuts and Michelle B. Any comparison?
BuckeyeSam on October 25, 2008 at 9:30 AM
she said she would go on regardless on Oreilly because she wasn’t afraid to speak for conservative values.

The McCain sign and the Stars and Stripes are planted two feet from the sidewalk.
No one has touched them.
That said, I have a sneaking suspicion that some of my neighbors are afraid of them. Sorta like how a vampire feels about a sunbeam.
Am I scary? Have I pushed my nose into my neighbors homes and lives? Bigot, maybe? Racist to some?
Screw them. The sign and standard stay where they are.

Let’s just get it out in the open. Chris Matthews is anti-American in his radical views. He also has a leg that tingles. Could be his Depends are leaking.
wepeople on October 25, 2008 at 9:34 AM
I question her decision to appear on MSNBC. I don’t give a damn where her heart is, when she decided to appear on that show, where was her brain? Maybe she is not such a good choice, altho I know nothing about her opponent, this may be another case of cloth-pin voting.

I stand with you Limerick.
You have courage and that is worth more than a hundred Buckleys or Powells.
Your loyalty strengthens us all.
We have had some defections to the other side and they will be dealt with later.
The other side has tried to take out our hero Joe with their snipers in the media.
Their forces are strong and entrenched but they underestimate our spirit.
I know that things may look dark now but I am not giving in or giving up.
The next ten days is the only future I can see right now.
We will keep our heads down and fight on through the attacks of their massive air campaign and their media tanks.
We will be vigilant as their foot soldiers try to penetrate our defenses at the clerks offices.
They drew some blood but I have plenty left.
We are preparing for the final battle on Nov.4th
I will fight until they pry the keyboard from my cold dead fingers.
All those who stood with us on this day will be my brother.
They will ask “Where were you during the Battle of Paligrad?”

You’re a good man, Ed. I had thought of contributing to her campaign a couple of days ago when I first saw her on FNC. She’s very impressive. Then when I read your post, and saw the wussified NRCC’s withdrawnal, I made it happen. It wasn’t a match, but it was a show of support.
It’s stuff like this that causes me to refuse to contribute another nickel to NRCC. I support individual candidates and orgs with a good track record like Freedom’s Watch, Heritage, Landmark, etc. but never the Republican national and state slush funds.
petefrt on October 25, 2008 at 10:46 AM
It appears that if you take a look at the entire Republican campaign process… primaries through the general and this decision by the NRCC, it is easy to get the distinct impression that those in charge of the party are running more against conservatives than they are against the Democrat party.

This is the complete takeover of the Democratic Party by Chicago thugs. Rahm Emanuel has orchestrated these smashmouth ad campaigns by the DCCC. Barack Obama is a cipher created out of whole cloth by David Axelrod and Richie Daley. These thugs to turn all of America into Chicago, a corrupt, one-party, totalitarian state where poor and middle class people are nothing but props for the political class to exploit, and where productive people are robbed of their money and initiative.
This is America’s future unless we get behind the truth-tellers like Michele Bachmann NOW.

I know facts can sometimes be stubborn things to deal with here at HA. Often I feel like I’ve walked thru the looking glass at DailyKOSland.
But I’ll post this email AGAIN that I received on Thursday, 23rd (the day of Michele’s appearance on FOX, from the NRCC). Doesn’t sound to me like they pulled their funding from her campaign because of what she said. My understanding is they pulled back before she spoke because she was a shoe-in and they felt the funds were better spent in other areas as she had ample funds from her own campaign donations.

We do not live in MN, but we know this woman has long stood for Conservatives. We decided long ago not to give money to the RNC in any form because of stupid things just like this. We began giving money to candidates individually to make sure CONSERVATIVES got some support. We sent money on Thursday. I have been trying to send her a supportive email, but her box is constantly full.
Our family wishes Michelle and her family the very best, and pray to God she wins this election. When people are no longer allowed to speak their minds, or to make what some might call a minor error, then America is in danger, and not just on a local level in MN!
In our humble opinion she spoke TRUTH to an IDIOT! But we tend to not have chills running up our legs when THE ONE is speaking.

I don’t get it: Her “mistake” was to suggest that socialist members of Congress be investigated?
I say that is long overdue. Some of them are pretty “thick” with hostile Government leaders, from what I can tell.
If I am incorrect, then an investigation will clear that up.
Trust me, if the Dems win in a couple of weeks, all KINDS of Republicans and conservatives are going to be Congressionally investigated… perhaps even the likes of Michelle Malkin and Ed Morrissey.
sanantonian on October 25, 2008 at 12:56 PM
Hang in there Michele, the Dems are trying to get all Republican new blood OUT.. Michael Steele, George Allan, Rick Santorum, etc. We need to get rid of the RINO’s, and support new blood.
Duncan Hunter’s son is running in So Cal, I don’t know how he is doing, and Bill Russell, running against Murtha. The only way we are going to regain seats is to support these people…
reshas1 on October 25, 2008 at 1:52 PM
This is exactly why I don’t contribute to the national party coffers. They target the old crony republicans, usually the moderates, and leave the real conservatives to twist in the wind. I live in a solid, conservative district in MI, so I have been targeting donations directly to the real conservatives in the Republican party, not the RINOS who have allowed the Dems to run unchecked in Congress. I am adding another one on my list today, this endangered conservative.
karenhasfreedom on October 25, 2008 at 2:16 PM
Senator Jim Bunning, Republican from Kentucky (and one of the all time Major League Baseball Strike Out leaders in baseball history, as well as one of the only Major League pitchers in history to pitch a perfect game, as well as a Hall of Famer) appears to be a little noticed, seldom spoken of conservative.
Senator Jim Bunning actually opposed this Government Socialist action, and has stood against other offensive government practices.
Jim Bunning was one of my childhood-teen years heroes, as I was a huge baseball fan, and player, who LOVED Jim Bunning as a Philadelphia Phillie and Pitcher (along with Johnny Callison, Chris Short, Tony Taylor, and other great Phillies from the 1960s/1964 team which almost won the pennant, and Sandy Koulfax Pitcher, LA Dodgers, Willie Mays – Center Fielder, SF Giants, Henry Aaron – Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves, etc., among the greatest players of all time).
In this time when so many so-called conservatives aren’t, and when our nation seems under the sleep of some form of darkness, siding with the likes of Socialists-leftists-liberals like Obama and his associates, it is wonderful to have a few remaining strong conservatives like Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, and Jim Bunning.
Kudos to Jim Bunning!

Rule No. 1 is try not to appear in any DNC Obama media. They will try to set up any candidate so they can destroy them one by one. Ignore them. Appear on Fox News or talk radio. I don’t understand why The GOP does not learn anything. Remember how they portrayed Sarah Palin! That is exactly their agenda and I wish and hope that the RNC start using their head.

She didn’t say anything wrong. It’s a shame there are so many weak, psuedo-conservatives out there ready to roll over for the left so as not to offend anyone and I don’t mean Rep. Bachmann. She should have been advised to go on the attack instead of apologizing for telling the truth. That’s what Americans’ want to see and it works for conservatives and republicans every time. These people are using government resources to go after Joe the Plumber and are using government intimidation in Missouri. They are un-American. She was absolutely right in what she said on hardball and you are wrong to twist her words and act as a surrogate for the left, Ed.
peacenprosperity on October 25, 2008 at 7:27 PM

peacenprosperity on October 25, 2008 at 7:30 PM
P n P,
Ed misinterpreted Michele’s comments on Hardball by associating it with the former “Congressional Investigation on Anti-American Activities.”
In so doing, Ed, perhaps inadvertently, was picked up by liberal blogs and the press who were assured they found a conservative who was turning on Michele. Nice job, Ed.
If Michele should lose this election, she has in part Ed to thank for the loss.
I feel sorry for Michele to have a “friend” like Ed.

sheesh on October 25, 2008 at 9:16 PM
Sad thing is she was right – politically insensitive, but right.
My explanation follows:
The America of the founders was based on a very limited federal government. Freedoms for individuals and restrictions on Federal power were spelled out in the Bill of Rights.
The American values are self-motivation, self-reliance, fierce independence, personal betterment, personal resposibility, hard work and risk taking. Success and failure, followed by getting back up and trying again.
Our culture was built upon the concept that success was possible for all Americans regardless of a race, religion, sex or creed. And as Jefferson said, the “government that governs least, governs best”.
These are the characteristics that made the United States great – they were also the values and culture that our country lived by.
For the last 75 years, there has been an effort to redefine America into heavy-handed federally-governed socialist state – the first phase evidenced by FDRs over-reaching federal government powers, and a second phase followed by Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society programs. The liberal education establishment as well as the expanding welfare state and activist courts have eroded these basic values that made America great.
We now stand on the edge of the third phase – an edge of another thrust by a socialist President, combined with a socialist dominated Senate and House which threaten to further erode the values that made the United States great and to reduce each individual’s freedoms of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
And that is truly Anti-American and must be stopped with all our efforts.
This is Dr. Bob, and I approve this message.
Dr. Bob on October 25, 2008 at 10:20 PM
After her interview on Levin’s show the other day, I gave her $10. We need them all.

For the record … Ed said:
The NRCC HAD to pull out.. to CONSERVE RESOURCES.. for closer races. Because of lack of money.. from people just like those here who assume the GOP abandoned Rep. Bachmann. (Which they did not do as I posted earlier.)
Ed didn’t say the NRCC had pulled their support of Bachmann because of her comments that were twisted by the Chris Matthews.. left wing et al!
What is disheartening about some of the commenters here at HA is their willingness to jump on the anti-RNC/GOP bandwagon. I suggest you get involved in your local GOP organizations to become better informed about what we stand for, what we stand against and what we support.
Ed’s lack of clarification of WHY the NRCC had pulled back PREVIOUS to the remarks by BACHMANN is not an EXCUSE for you to be ill informed about the facts.
