Media spins innocent Lieberman quote to humiliate Palin

I was going to let it go when Politico did it but now NBC’s done it too, so let’s take a moment. The new narrative about fingerpointing within Team Maverick is starting to congeal and naturally Palin, given her unfavorables, is expected to be Scapegoat #1. Hence the media interest today in Tom Ridge hinting McCain would win Pennsylvania if he was VP, which is arguably true but overlooks the minor detail of how those red states McCain desperately needs to hold would have reacted to a pro-choice VP. Here’s the latest obvious attempt to advance the ball, distorting an innocent line by the guy who was reportedly passed over for the ‘Cuda to make it sound like he thinks she’s not ready:

U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman Friday continued to stand by Republican John McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as a running mate.

But when asked by The Advocate if Palin is ready to be president from day one, Lieberman said “thank God she’s not going to have to be president from day one. McCain’s going to be alive and well.”

Do I actually need to explain this? The prospect is raised of a close friend dying and he says, essentially, “thank god he’s not dead,” and the media’s reading it as “thank god that halfwit on the bottom of the ticket won’t be in charge.” Read down a bit further in the interview, though, and you’ll find this:

“Let’s hope she never has to be ready because we hope McCain is elected and live out his term,” Lieberman said. “But if, God forbid, an accident occurs or something of that kind, she’ll be ready. She’s had executive experience. She’s smart. And she will have had on-the-job training.”

Are people seriously suggesting that McCain’s chief political crony (aside from Graham), who spoke at the convention and who’s been relentlessly on message for the past six months, would be knocking Palin with 10 days left?

Here’s the final piece of her interview with Brian Williams, which must be the longest I’ve heard her speak on the subject of her treatment by the media. “I think the most frustrating thing has been some unfair shots taken against my family because they have been based on lies,” she says. I wonder who she has in mind.

She is so good. I just wish someone would contrast her qualifications for Prez with Obama’s. 55% don’t believe she’s qualified to be Prez? What qualifies Obama to be Prez? She stacks up better vs. Obama. She trumps him. Come on. Open your eyes, and look and them, and compare them point by point. She’s better qualified than he is.

Paul-Cincy on October 25, 2008 at 1:26 AM

Qualified to be president? She’s not running for president Brian Williams you TOOL!

Hey Sarah, it’s time to fix bayonets and jump down the throats of these morons, especially the so called men who cross their legs in fear while you sit there with your legs pointing straight at his small (thingy).

Hoo Yah!!!!

Get em Cuda!

winemkr on October 25, 2008 at 1:51 AM

Brian Williams is a total PRICK!

CH on October 25, 2008 at 2:37 AM

Man, that SNL thing really f***ed up their narrative, didn’t it? Not sure this is gonna get it back on track.

What did you expect? That man is a radical atheist. I knew from the first that “Palin is inexperienced”line was just a cover.

MEDICAL RECORDS. Hmmm. About one week until we vote…this week was all about her clothes…next week will be the breathless hype over her medical records…all the while:

Obama/ACORN
Obama/FEC violations
Obama/New Party?
Obama/Ayers book?
Obama/lawsuits pending in several states to produce the real birth cert.
Obama/a doctor’s SHEET of medical history?

So, really, there isn’t anything they can talk about? This is a concerted effort because of the conversation Obot campaign insiders have concocted out of FEAR of Sarah Palin’s impact. It is an obvious hatchet job.

It makes me sick that they are not reporting on everything they can on this virtual nobody named Obama who is shady at best and is close to clinching the prize. No, they’d rather violate her more with this slobbering interest over her personal life. Insane days, you guys.

Mommypundit on October 25, 2008 at 3:50 AM

I think RNC really fucked it up with the donations thing. When they released their donor information it was to shame Obama into releaseing his small donor info. Now, it’s all been hijacked by this Palin wardrobe thing. Nobody’s talking up the donations thing. Doggone it, RNC, stick to the message!

promachus on October 25, 2008 at 3:54 AM

Well, we can get on it, Pomachus…that means that we have to EVERY DAY write the networks/call the Dept. of Justice…call/email every media person you know. Get traction NOW. There is still time…

Mommypundit on October 25, 2008 at 4:04 AM

Tom Ridge? Is the Frankenstein vote really that vital?

Jim Treacher on October 25, 2008 at 4:08 AM

That interviewer is up himself isn’t he. Palin handled this interview superbly, refusing to play his game, firm yet gracious. Provided the spin doctors and makeover artists and advisers don’t spoil her, she will just get better and better.

You know the hatchet job that moron Brian did on this interview. he just played the medical records answer the day before when they Mccain and Palin together and her answer looked overly defensive. If you watch the whole thing however, you know the context where she is coming from. they were talking about media bias, so that explains it. Brian Williams you tool.

He also promised to interview the other ticket next week. i am sure he is going to suck up to them right before the election.

promachus on October 25, 2008 at 6:49 AM

“Sarah Palin, Sure, I’ll release my medical records the MOMENT BARACK OBAMA PRODUCES HIS CERTIFIED “VAULT” COPY OF HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE” to put an end to all the RUMORS, SPECULATION AND DISTRACTION ABOUT his eligibility.’”
suggested a caller on Michael Savage’s strong>The Savage Nation”. OBAMA ADMITS HIS INELIGIBILITY TO BE PRESIDENT. NOW ON YOUTUBE
PART 1 & PART 2
IT’S ABOUT TO BREAK WIDE OPEN. “REPUBS HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR FINAL WEEK OF CAMPAIGN” THE STORY IS FINALLY GETTING NATIONAL COVERAGE. LISTEN TO IT YOURSELF. UNBELIEVABLE TO HEAR THIS LAWYER REVEAL ONE SHOCKING THING AFTER ANOTHER.

.
Phillip J. Berg, the lawyer who is suing Obama is:
1. A LIFELONG LIBERAL DEMOCRAT
2. A FORMER DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL OF PA
3. A LIFELONG MEMBER OF THE NAACP

NOT. A. REPUBLICAN.
NOT. AN. IDIOT.
NOT. A. RAAACIST.

It says something about the state of “journalism” when NBC does the work of the Obama campaign.

Journalism IS dead.

Network “news” is likely to devolve into entities resembling Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition. Then only Williams and Couric will take themselves seriously.

drjohn on October 25, 2008 at 8:24 AM

Medical records?

WHO is pressing for her medical records?

He never said WHO is asking. So WHO the hell is demanding her medical records and not demanding OBAMA’s medical records???????

GEEZ!

drjohn on October 25, 2008 at 8:32 AM

team obongo is taking it in the shorts—even the former mrs.dasa—a dyed in the wool moonbat, can’t stomach the guy.

fact is—i’m nearly the lone conservative in my circle of friends and all my pals are sickened by the dems this go ’round.

the lone yellow dog is my former mother in law…oh, and my parents.

devadevadasa on October 25, 2008 at 8:32 AM

Given what Tom Ridge alluded to, I would counter that if Romney were on the ticket, McCain would have this in the bag, oh, say about a month ago.

The Cuda is getting better and better. Imagine if she had a good 2 months before the republican convention to get up to speed?

Brian Williams forgot his reading glasses he could place at the end of his nose so that he could use to look down at Sarah. His bosses should have reminded him of their dress code.

Pardon my expletives, but….

Brian, WTFU** are you talking about? Sarah splayed you out on the mat and you kept trying to go on!? What in the hell is wrong with you folks on the left that you can’t imagine in ANY case that a conservative person could possibly win an electionz? What a douche.

MsUnderestimated on October 26, 2008 at 4:03 AM

I found his statement “55% of Americans don’t think you’re ready..” to be interesting. I see that now the media is reporting the polls they themselves conduct as indisputable facts. That’s a very powerful tool to hold.

Will the actual election eventually become just a rubber stamp of the “election of public opinion?”

I don’t know who said it but I agree with the statement “There are lies, damn lies, and polls.”

Wine_N_Dine on October 26, 2008 at 2:07 PM

Tom Ridge hinting McCain would win Pennsylvania if he was VP

Screw Tom Ridge. Nobody wanted him as VP except himself.
