McCain: I know where the elitists live

posted at 3:49 pm on October 23, 2008 by Allahpundit

I prefer the ‘Cuda’s answer: It’s all a state of mind. Speaking of elite and non-elite areas, though, can someone explain to me why, with less than two weeks left and Pennsylvania virtually a must-win, they’re wasting time this weekend on a state with only seven electoral votes where The One leads, according to some polls, by as much as 15 or 16 points? We don’t need Iowa; we need some combination of Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Colorado — and Ohio and Indiana, needless to say. What am I missing here?

Exit question to Chuck Todd: Where, precisely, is the “tenseness” here?

If it was a racial thing watch out. The South will be lost to Obama. NC, VA, KY, all coming to Obama. this is a very big very gut wrenching story. McCain needs to get out there now and call Obama on it. By telling his supports to get in peoples faces this is what Obama has wrought. McCain and Palin need to hold a press conference now right now and condem in the storngest possible words. Bush needs to send the FBI, and US marshall to Pittsburgh now. Today.

unseen on October 23, 2008 at 4:19 PM

Hmmm… elite.

His grandfather’s name and his father’s forbearance brought McCain a charmed existence at Annapolis. On his first trip at sea — to Rio de Janeiro aboard the USS Hunt — the captain was a former student of his father. While McCain’s classmates learned the ins and outs of the boiler room, McCain got to pilot the ship to South America and back. In Rio, he hobnobbed with admirals and the president of Brazil.

The only way McCain could have had more strings pulled for him in his life is if here were born with the name Pinnochio. The idea that McCain has been trying to tag Obama — a guy who was raised by a single mother and earned his own way in life — with the elite tag this election is a joke.

McCain isn’t an idiot but he’s run a really awful campaign that has been as inspiring as dry toast. He has shown no vision and his campaign dabbles with one issue after another without ever staying long enough to make it part of the narrative. He’s banking on winning by getting the votes of Republicans who have no choice but to elect him over the other guy. Hardly an inspiring way to enter office but I guess McCain’s lust for power makes it a “strategy.”

That he’s going to waste time in a state where the outcome is a forgone conclusion affirms all my comments above. As to the “elitist” theme- Of course McCain knows where the elitists live. He’s been one of “them” all his life. It’s absurd for him to pretend to be a populist because that just isn’t who McCain is and never has been. He comes off looking like a fraud when it does this kind of crap.

If the media buries this and the Obama and the Democrats do not immediately denounce this and call for the perpetrator of this act’s punishment and if Obama does not immediately call upon his people to back off their strong-arming and fascistic tactics, then the lights in this nation will be going out. The Democratic Party, by accepting and embracing the use of violence to intimidate and to enforce its will on the populace will have taken that final step towards becoming a fascistic/Stalinist/Leninist political party.

McCain has to speak up on this and do so immediately. I hope he brings it up in his speech in Sarasota this evening, but it’s probably too late breaking for him to do that then. But he needs to talk about this as soon as possible and Sarah Palin needs to visit that poor woman–she doesn’t need to make a photo-op about it and in fact, I wouldn’t recommend that she do so. Just a quiet one on one visit.

Mark1971 on October 23, 2008 at 4:08 PM

Hard paper or plastic shell? If they’re paper, go shoot them off somewhere or donate to the local range. If plastic, pick ten percent at random, fire them off and if they all fire, you are good to go.

Old ammo has something called ‘powder stick’ where the individual grains will settle and stick to one another or to the case. This can give an uneven burn and make for odd discharges.

If you insist on keeping ammo around for that long, store them with active dessicant and turn them upside down or lightly shake them from time to time.

Case in point: My bro is a retired high school teacher living in a small town in rural Ohio. He is an (Obamite) elitist because he’s so much better than the parents of those stupid, racists, gun-toting, Church-going, one issues voters (pro-life), who had their children in his classes. If only they were ‘pro-choice’, he would have had smaller classes.

Go Sarah!

Christine on October 23, 2008 at 4:45 PM

Tom:

Charmed??? Oh yeah. That is so stupid.

McCain was 31 years old before his father became an admiral. Dad was a Lieutenant when McCain was born. McCain was about 9 when his grandfather dropped dead a day after he returned from active duty in WW2.

My Dad was a poor boy from Oklahoma and he was offered a place at Annapolis if he wanted it. He turned them down and lived to regret it.

The idea that McCain grew up in the lap of luxury is absurd. BTW, last year Obama made more than four times more money than Palin, McCain and Biden combined.

Carved a B in anyone’s face lately Tom?

no, im not being jack murtha, but the whole black-white man-woman thing, well, let’s just hope the fringe on our side (to put it nicely) keeps their cool. not a lot of skin color tolerance for others in certain parts of the south or appalachia (though strangley, at least in my state, its the part that still votes dem… go figure!)

Buckeye and highhopes:

What makes either one of you think you know any better than McCain how to run against Barack Obama?

This elitist crap is going nowhere…. much like the comments about ‘real America’ being limited to small towns. It’s silly. What ever happened to the notion that we are all American?

I’m sure BS like this might work with the lunatic fringe but it puts off those voters McCain needs to compete.

yes, because we all know taht the hamptons on long island have sent thousands to fight in iraq and afghanistan, and we all know that big cities believe in american exceptionalism, that our country is ‘different’ and ‘better’, and that it would be a very big thing if we had to just move to france and become a french citizen

*sarc*

I don’t think so. I think people are very much aware of the whole elitist concept and feel it in a personal way.

That is not true. I bet there are more bigots in Boston than there are in the Mississippi delta. I am so tired of people acting as if all the bigots are rural Southerners.

Mark1971,
“Does anyone know how long a shotgun shell is good for? I’ve got 75 of them that have been stored in a closet for about 8 years.”

If they’ve been dry, and don’t have any corrosion on them, it should be no problem.
