Video: French archive releases footage of McCain POW interview

posted at 9:35 pm on October 22, 2008 by Allahpundit

It was first broadcast in 1968; I’ve seen a few seconds of it in his ads, but never this much. Watch to the end. You’ll never forget it.

Go see what McCain critic Matt Welch got from the forces of Hope and Change for having the nerve to argue that McCain’s a hero.

McCain was a POW?!?!?!?!

NOW I AM REALLY VOTING FOR HIM!!!

HIP HIP HOOOORAY!!!!

Excellent timing. Fox better broadcast this.

MadisonConservative on October 22, 2008 at 9:39 PM

As the poster said on YouTube, contrast the fact that McCain was shooting missiles during his youth in Vietnam fighting for his country and Obama was busy shooting staples into telephone poles as a ‘community organizer’.

If you don’t get a lump in your throat at the end you’re a cruel, cold-hearted commie bastard.

And to think… Bill Ayers & wife may have worn rings made of his plane that was shot down.

Barry’s such a little man-child punk. He doesn’t deserve to win this.

Eat dung, troll.

Or, better, go hang out with Osama Obama. He digs traitors, felons, racists and communists.

And he regularly shoots off his cowardly mouth about things he hasn’t any capacity to understand, just like you do.

According to Biden, that footage was shot shortly after McCain finished paying taxes.

Actually, I wept, but politics has nothing to do with it.

What man with a wife and children, as I have – if he truly be a man – could not weep imagining himself in such circumstances?

ManlyRash on October 22, 2008 at 9:47 PM

Well, the joke was to leverage off of the fact that McCain brings up this horrific and heroic time in his life much too often. Often, he uses it as a substitute for the ability to articulate or even have a coherent republican based argument for the issues.

That was my point…mixed with humor.

Sorry if you were offended.

Hey, I am voting for the dude…what else can I say?

Roger Waters on October 22, 2008 at 9:48 PM

Crap. The end of that video actually brought tears to my eyes. And I’m not the emotional type.

It’s his eyes, I think.

Slublog on October 22, 2008 at 9:48 PM

But of course, if a Viet Cong prisoner of war, or Al Qaeda member for that matter, had endured that sort of treatment at the hands of Americans, or actually just sort of hung out for a few years in a country club prison like they already do… well now, THEY would be the true heroes of course.

I am not claiming to know God’s intentions, but as a Catholic, I’ve learned that those who suffer on earth get their reward in heaven. Seeing how McCain has suffered through torture everyday for over five years, and a loss in 2000 by a dirty ad, I think God might bless him to go to the White House.
I am praying along with many others for McCain, our brave veteran and POW to be our next president. He deserves it.

Roger Waters on October 22, 2008 at 9:50 PM

No, assclown, there are certain things that no decent human being jokes about, and what McCain and countless other Americans have endured for their country is one of them.

The fact that he didn’t turn traitor when he came home, as Kerry and Murtha have, only adds to the respect.

Even if I didn’t support him politically, I would revere McCain, as I do so many other members of the military, past and present, for his service and sacrifice.

I salute him. And I spit on those, like Osama Obama, who have taken cheap shots at his injuries. Obama has performed no service to his nation; in fact, he seems committed to destroying it.

You should apologize to McCain and the memory of those who have sacrificed as much or even more so you could sit at a computer and make “jokes” that are not at all funny or appropriate.

Seven Percent Solution on October 22, 2008 at 10:07 PM

Well, this happened (this tapes release) and I am not sure why it did except out of desperation. This would be one of those times when I think that desperation has set in and McCain’s folks know that he has lost. Is this one of those times when the internal polls of a campaign come out in its actions?

Why else would this come out? Why now? Why not earlier if not saved as a move of desperation?

Am I reading the timing of this wrong? I hope that I am wrong.

OSUBuciz1 on October 22, 2008 at 10:07 PM

he’s not a troll

Sorry, Slublog. He IS a troll. Anyone who can dismiss someone’s noble sacrifice so callously as if ‘hearing about it repeatedly’ begins to measure up to the REAL suffering of McCain and his fellow POWs, some of whom did not make it home due to poor treatment, torture, deliberate murder, and disease, betrays a trollish, self-centered little man of little or no accomplishment in his own life. I didn’t experience it, but I can certainly take my mind off of my miserable little self long enough to recognize the horror of McCain’s imprisonment by barbarians. Little Roger can only hope that he never experiences a real life trauma. Obviously he won’t be able to handle it.

But seriously, any attempt to dismiss McCain after watching that video is complete verification that you have no friggin’ life whatsoever. You certainly don’t have kids (at least none that you are aware of), and you certainly have never been separated from whatever it is you care about (probably your Family Guy DVD collection and that autographed Jackass promotional poster).

I suggest the next time you enjoy the freedom of posting your lame-assed opinion here or anywhere else that you thank heroes like McCain fr protecting the very freedoms that you take for granted. Seiously dude, you are truly pathetic. Some day, many years from now you will realize the errors fo your stupidity. Until then, please try to avoid procreating.

BHO is a life-long chain smoker.

That’s why MKH “Obama on my shoulder” was just slightly off mark by not emphasizing Obama’s hypocrisy forcing others to practice “virtues” that he himself does not perform.

A more significant point there is Obama’s requiring the world to take care of Obama’s brother so that Obama does not have to take care of Obama’s brother. That’s “spreading the wealth” a la Obama.

Is that where you usually hang out in the evening? Isn’t that past your bedtime?

And you think Huck and Paul were better choices? Even more proof that you have no life experience and that you lack any grasp of the economy, business in America and the world we face today. I supposed you don’t list Romney because he was a Mormon? So how did that Ron Paul Revolution work out for you? I think McCain has many flaws (I disagree with him on immigration, gitmo, torture and global warming), but there’s no way in hell I could try to belittle the pain he has endured.

We are constantly told by his supporters and the MSM that one of the reasons Obama is so superior at engaging with world leaders (and cheering Germans) is because of the influences from youth, including his time abroad (although it’s important that we not dwell on his time in Indonesia because, well, you know) and his mixed race background, but… McCain has been “overusing” his experiences as a veteran and POW in his campaign?

Roger – I hope your time in hell is pleasant.

I hope his time in hell makes McCain’s 5 years in hell seem like a walk in the sunshine.

Guests don’t decide who gets sent home. This is a serious thread.

People, let’s all “Buzz Up” these stories so that they get wider notice. There were a lot of good stories yesterday that helped the Republican’s but few ‘buzzes’. McCain is closing and lets help to get any and all positive information out there…It’s not hard, just click on the icon.

It’s his eyes, I think.

Slublog on October 22, 2008 at 9:48 PM

You are correct. His eyes were saying goodbye to his wife and children.

Helloyawl on October 22, 2008 at 10:32 PM

It was the first time I’d seen this footage. The contrast between what and I saw and your comment … well … it’s hard to see the humor in your “joke.” Poor taste sir.

I’m sure most of us aren’t terribly happy with McCain’s politics. It was a screwed up primary for certain. But need you post something like this here, and now?

Yes. They were. Makes it even more painful now.

Check how badly the interviewer’s hand shakes when he lights the cigarette. Curious.

C’est tout!!! I could eat nails, metal ones, I’m so furious. – Entelechy on October 22, 2008 at 10:22 PM

We have to talk. About Romania.

ManlyRash on October 22, 2008 at 10:39 PM

I couldn’t finish watching it.

And while McCain was rotting in that rat hole, Ayers and Dohrn –Obama’s friends– were trying their best to destroy the country he fought to defend.

There are no words I can think of to express my disgust right now.

Perhaps these will elevate your mood: President John S. McCain.
