Audio: Dobson interviews Palin on faith, family, and the election

Twenty-seven minutes and no transcript, alas. The best I can do for you are these highlights from Beliefnet. The beginning deals with family issues (Trig especially) and their mutual admiration before segueing into the GOP platform around 15 minutes in. Predictably, the media headline is her telling Dobson that “the right thing for America will be done at the end of the day on Nov. 4.” That’s at around 17:10. My transcript:

You know, I am not discouraged at all, even hearing those poll numbers because, for some reason, I have found myself over and over again in my life being put in these underdog positions. And yet still, when victory needed to be reached in order to meet this greater good, it’s always worked out just perfectly fine despite the fact that over and over again I’ve been — and I know John McCain has been — in underdog positions. To me, it motivates us, makes us work that much harder, and it also strengthens my faith because I’m going to know at the end of the day — putting this in God’s hands — that the right thing for America will be done, the end of the day on November 4th. So I’m not discouraged at all. I’m just fine with the position that we’re in today.

I think she’s saying that the outcome will be fine no matter what because it’ll reflect God’s will, much as she said she hoped/prayed that the war is in accordance with God’s plan (which the media also distorted), but it’s slightly more ambiguous this time. Either way, it’s a bit more personal and humanizing than the average interview and therefore a good listen just as Saddleback was good viewing. Worth the time if you can spare it.

What Sarah Palin actually said:

I’m going to know at the end of the day — putting this in God’s hands — that the right thing for America will be done, the end of the day on November 4th.

Huffpo headline: Palin wants God to destroy America

NY Times headline: Palin says God is on her side; women and minorities hardest hit.

LA Times headline: Palin: McCain Voters Doing Will of God by Voting for Him

Moonbat diary entry: What that blood-drinking b**ch c**t really means is that when the f**king smoke of battle clears over the bodies of the Americans I have slain in the name of f****ing Chimpy McBushitler with weapons furnished by Halliburton, you will see that my victory over the subhuman heathen was clearly the will of the motherf**king Christian God.

The picture reminds of The Sound of Music family. It’s nice to see the Palin family, and Joe the Plumber. They’re most significant in this weird cycle, and thus despised by the media and the lefties.

Why is she convinced McCain is going to implement the GOP platform when he has said numerous times he supports stem cell research, won’t ban abortion and thinks gay marriage should be left to the states?

[DOBSON]: He’s got some pretty powerful things to say and I do hope that the American people are listening to the concerns being expressed. I have to admit that early on, especially during the primaries I had a hard time deciding what direction I thought we ought to go. And there are concerns, have been concerns within the Republican party that really agitated me. But I am telling you the Republican platform is the strongest pro-life, pro-family document to come out of a political party. Even more so than the platforms during the campaigns of Ronald Reagan. There are principles there that just, I’ve been fighting for, for 30-40 years and you are trying to articulate those same principles aren’t you?

[PALIN] Absolutely. And Dr. Dobson thank you so much for recognizing that. This is a strong platform. [inaudible] around the planks in this platform that respect life and respect the entrepreneurial spirit of this great country. And those things, back to the social issues that are what Republicans at least in the past had articulated and tried to stand on. Now finally we have very solid planks in the platform that will allow us to build an even stronger foundation for our country. It is all good and it is encouraging, you would maybe have assumed people would have, that we would have gotten further away from those strong planks. But no, they are there, they are solid, we stand on them and again I believe that it is the right agenda for the country at this time. Very, very clear and contrasted tickets in this election, November 4th. People are going to see the clear contrast, just go to the planks in our platform and that is where you see them.

[DOBSON] In your private conversations with Senator McCain is it your impression that he also strongly supports those views? I know that he did not oppose that platform when it was written. Do you think he will implement it?

[PALIN] I do, from the bottom of my heart. I am such a strong believer that McCain believes in those strong planks and we do have good conversations about some of the details too, about the different planks and what they represent. And I’m very heartened that John McCain, he doesn’t want a vice-president who will check the opinions of me at the door and we talk about some of these. And they are very important. It’s most important though, as you are suggesting that Americans know that John McCain is solidly there on those solid planks in our platform that build the right agenda for America.

stem cell research s/b supported (I know there are several kinds)

The only stem cell research most conservatives have a problem with is Embryonic stem cell research, as it requires abortion to acquire the cells in question. There are other variants of stem cells that can be acquired in other ways that don’t require killing someone to get them.

The platform Dobson is talking about would ban embryonic stem cell research, all forms of abortion and included a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. McCain disagrees with all three of these so why is she telling Dobson he will implement them when he has said he won’t?

Btw, I beat you to your comment on the self-destruction of humanity, just a few comments above yours. 100% agreement – just a matter of time, due to stupidity, ignorance, and lack of real progress as a ‘humanity’. I refuse to type the word any more, without single quotes. After the fall of the iron curtain I had hope. After 2000 I realized it was just a lull.

John McCain Defends Embryonic Stem Cell Research Backing in Florida Stop

by Steven Ertelt
LifeNews.com Editor
January 25, 2008

Tallahassee, FL (LifeNews.com) — Republican presidential candidate John McCain has taken a pro-life position on abortion, but his views on embryonic stem cell research are a cause for concern among many pro-life advocates. The Arizona senator defended his position in support of the destructive research at a Florida campaign stop.

McCain said he continues to support forcing taxpayers to fund the research, which involves the destruction of human life and has never helped patients, but called his support for it “a very agonizing and tough decision.”

“All I can say to you is that I went back and forth, back and forth on it and I came in on one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had, in favor of that research,” he said, according to a Catholic News Agency report.

“And one reason being very frankly is those embryos will be either discarded or kept in permanent frozen status,” he explained.

“I understand how divisive this is among the pro-life community,” McCain added.

Though, I would add the following to your list:

the conservative Jews, conservative minorities and conservatives of the log cabin variety

By bucking the trends and being conservative, you add a voice to the party that is unique and much appreciated.

I also keep thinking that God would not allow our country to fall into the hands of Obama. I just cannot believe it will happen. However, if it does, like someone else said, it will be HIS will and we will have to learn from it. The biggest tragedy of all will be if Obama wins and at the end of his first term we’re NOT ready to rise up and take back the WH and Congress.

I just can’t imagine why God would have allowed Sarah Palin to be introduced to us and yet not have her elected on 11.4.08.

Just my inner thoughts spilling out. Never mind.
