Video: Meet Union Boss Bill

posted at 3:00 pm on October 21, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

Union Boss Bill wants Congress to pass the Employee Free Choice Act, better known as Card Check. Union Boss Bill wants American workers to give up the secret ballot in favor of cards that allow everyone to know how they vote on union representation. What happens when an employee fills out a card that tells Union Boss Bill that he doesn’t want union representation? Union Boss Bill will file the card … well, check the video from the US Chamber of Commerce:

Marc Ambinder notes that Bill is actually AFL-CIO boss Bill Londrigan of Kentucky. This confrontation took place over the summer. Note that Bill doesn’t have a problem with violence or the threat of violence in order to get what he wants.

The USCC will run this ad in a few targeted states, one of which will hopefully be Minnesota. Al Franken supports Card Check, while Norm Coleman opposes it. We’ll ask Senator John Ensign on our show today about the significance of Card Check in the race two weeks from now, and whether he thinks it will help keep Republicans in the game enough to maintain a filibuster against it in the next Congress.

Otherwise, American workers can expect to meet Union Boss Bill and a whole lot of his friends. Feel like saying no to them?

Update: My apologies – it should have read Chamber of Commerce, not Congress.

I’d rather not look up his nose, thanks.

Is that supposed to be a mustache on Bill? I had a better mustache when I was 13.

Folks usually don’t get so upset about being on camera…unless they’re doing something wrong.

AubieJon on October 21, 2008 at 3:10 PM

Wow.

Superb ad.

MadisonConservative on October 21, 2008 at 3:12 PM

Typical bully…that is what the democrats are voting for, sweet little Obama, and his bullies.
Sweet adoring Obama never does wrong…but just ask him a question and see what his surrogates do to you.
Question his associations and see what his surrogates do to you.
Question his voting record…his youth…his academic records…his earmarks…his work history…question him on anything and see what his surrogated do to you.
The mob boss never pulls the trigger…

right2bright on October 21, 2008 at 3:14 PM

And once Bill gets the union into YOUR company, guess what Obama wants to give unions the right to? To BAR companies from hiring permanent replacements, forcing businesses to choose between a) caving to union demands, or b) going out of business.

Choose wisely, America.

P.S. Yeah, it’s true – here it is on Obama’s website. Read the first sentence under the word Labor.

JustTruth101 on October 21, 2008 at 3:14 PM

Union thug.

That guy needs a good kick in the nuts!

Mercy4Me on October 21, 2008 at 3:15 PM

Outside of the 3 billion Obama ads here in DC, I’ve actually seen anti Employee Free Choice Act (Card Check) ads on TV. I agree with carbon_footprint, and I don’t think it would take much to achieve that goal. Bill is a typical Union thug.

I’ve met union guys before and I’ll say no to them to their faces… unions are abhorrent… we should not hide from them or their tactics…

that being said I’m still against Card Check!

Just wondering.

Is this more like it?

I would have responded with a front kick to the balls: “Is this where you’d want it?”

Looks like Bill wants his nose wiped.

THANK YOU U.S. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE!

Great ad.

Clear message.

Mr. Bill Thug

How on earth would this even get to the point it has, NO PRIVATE VOTE ALLOWED, in the USA except that the unions are now completely corrupt and anti-American. It’s called Socialism and it ain’t pretty. Put your foot down NOW and do not relinquish another inch to these takers of freedom.

Whatever laws and rights workers need are already now on the books. The unions have become deconstructive to American workers who paid their own way into that abusive relationship like battered spouses. Either get government completely out of the work place, or eliminate unions. We’re paying twice for the same thing as it is.

This is a song about the union, friends
How they fucked you over and the way they bends
The rules to suit a special few
And you gets pooched every time they do

Too bad the Supreme Court couldn’t find a few penumbras that would protect the right to privacy as it applies to voting…they seem to have no trouble finding them for…ahem…other things.

THANKS DEMOCRATS!

Sasnak on October 21, 2008 at 3:37 PM

Boycott all union made products and boycott union labor.

Unions are un-democratic and un-American.

NoDonkey on October 21, 2008 at 3:37 PM

I know a hard core Obama supporter (labor negotiations lawyer) who is scared $hitless about this. Last year they tried to pass this law on the state level. Fortunately it was defeated.

natesnake on October 21, 2008 at 3:37 PM

Kentucky? No wonder Bill is upset. The huge Toyota plant in N. Kentucky has to be quite the kick in the junk. They just do not want to be unionized. They aren’t stupid. The employess know why they have the plant instead of Michigan.

A McCain victory is so important on so many levels. Leftist institutions are desperate and they are spending like it. The left is out of leaders and in an information age the misinformation that fueled their previous causes no longer go unchallenged. They have to face facts more than ever. Without a sympathetic political class the left is done.

Yep. Only cockroaches and criminals get this upset when you try to show people what they’re up to.

Welcome to Obama’s New World Order: CHANGE — whether you want it or not, you’re gonna get it shoved somewhere you won’t like it.

As a warehouse worker, it`s nice to know what I may be facing next year. Considering I have a recently widowed mother to pay the bills for, put food on the table for her and my bro and sis, keep the lights and heat on…….What do I do?

ThePrez on October 21, 2008 at 3:58 PM

Bill seems angry?

Union boss = Money for nothing and the perks for free.

I’m sure he has a slot on Obama’s new internal security force cinched.

Sammy316 on October 21, 2008 at 4:14 PM

Suppose four or five big, intimidating men approach my 105-pound wife at the store where she works, and they hand a petition to her, saying it would be in her best interests to sign the paper. If Congressional Democrats have their way, it would only take a majority of a company’s workers signing such a petition to make the company unionized–private ballots would be done away with. Senator Barack Hussein Obama not only favors this “change”, he co-sponsored the bill. This is one of many reasons to oppose Obama’s candidacy, because it will become the law of the land if he becomes the President.

Along with the widespread intimidation, this measure would hurt the economy. Higher union membership means forcing small businesses to pay employees more and giving more benefits than the free market naturally dictates. They will be less likely to hire, but if they do hire, they’ll have to raise their prices to cover their increased cost of doing business. Other businesses will just send jobs overseas. Do you remember what unions did to the steel industry? Have you ever thought about why it is that Japan can make a better car and ship it 6500 miles across the ocean and pay the tariff, yet still charge a competitive price for it?

I have seen the ugly side of unions–harassment, theft, ostracizing, vandalism–because “those ‘scabs’ deserve it”.

A secret ballot is the cornerstone of democracy. Don’t let the Democrats–bought and paid for by the unions–take it away!

madmonkphotog on October 21, 2008 at 4:27 PM

What do I do?

ThePrez on October 21, 2008 at 3:58 PM

Vote for McCain, encourage everybody else you know to do the same (and offer rides, babysitting, etc., and anything else that might help McCain voters get to the polls) — and then PRAY that enough of the rest of the country comes to its senses before election day.

AZCoyote on October 21, 2008 at 5:05 PM

Just another part of the Democrat’s new State Police force. They’ll later go out and help collect firearms and ammo after they 2nd Amendment is found unconstitutional by the SCOTUS.

In no way do I want this crap to come to pass…I think it should be going the other way. Unions have long outlived any kind of usefulness they ever had..they should be outlawed..

But if these SmakTards get their way….

natesnake says:

I know a hard core Obama supporter (labor negotiations lawyer) who is scared (expletive) about this. Last year they tried to pass this law on the state level. Fortunately it was defeated.

Wouldn’t blame him – but his industry being as adversarial as it is, this is to be expected. When you hire “vetted no-voters” enmasse, merge the union into a minority, or find legal ways to figure out the vote(targeting supporters for intimidation of the company variety by means of betting pools). The anti-union side has been physical in the past but concentrates on using technicalities in the legal arena to get the same effect.

madmonkphotog says:

I guess the unions still do have goon squads.

They aren’t the only ones.

Not that they’d avoid participating in a fight – they’d rather just have a third party do it such as Vance International. They can’t be as open as unionbusting was in Colorado with Pinkerton or as done in Michigan with the Battle of The Overpass.

In short:
Thuggery is not limited to brute force nor exclusive to the union side.

sethstorm on October 21, 2008 at 10:00 PM
