I wonder if Joe S. knows what the straw man argument is. If you look at the full text at what Biden said, it’s not as much of a gaffe as people are making it out to be. He basically said that enemies would cause an international crisis to test Obama and find out that he has a spine of steel not as Joe S. implied that Obama’s election would trigger an international crisis.

It’s interesting that both Rather and Brzidnnyxxy?? rapidly acknowledge the MSM bias. If those two won’t defend the wapo and the slimes, then all is lost for them.

In these difficult times, lets not overlook silver linings.

I hope McCain makes a clear case to people that the very same media they no longer trust are the ones commissioning most of the polls.

I think Biden’s words just scared the living hell out of any liberal with a brain. Sounds very, very sinister. Suggesting that Obama’s election will put the nation at risk in the first six months? The ramifications are startling, and even some of the oldest and most loyal Democrats are taken aback at the thought that maybe, just maybe, this kid is a disaster for everyone.

Important Update:

Obama & DNC Admit All Allegations of Federal Court Lawsuit – Obama’s “Not” Qualified to be President
Obama Should Immediately Withdraw his Candidacy for President

For Immediate Release: – 10/21/08 – Complete contact details and a pdf are at the end of this article

(Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania ” 10/21/08) – Philip J. Berg, Esquire, the Attorney who filed suit against Barack H. Obama challenging Senator Obama’s lack of “qualifications” to serve as President of the United States, announced today that Obama and tbe DNC “ADMITTED”, by way of failure to timely respond to Requests for Admissions, all of the numerous specific requests in the Federal lawsuit. Obama is “NOT QUALIFIED” to be President and therefore Obama must immediately withdraw his candidacy for President and the DNC shall substitute a qualified candidate. The case is Berg v. Obama, No. 08-cv-04083.

Berg stated that he filed Requests for Admissions on September 15, 2008 with a response by way of answer or objection had to be served within thirty [30] days. No response to the Requests for Admissions was served by way of response or objection. Thus, all of the Admissions directed to Obama and the DNC are deemed “ADMITTED.” Therefore, Obama must immediately withdraw his candidacy for President.

Nobody’s saying it was a gaffe. It was a stupid thing to say, but to call it a gaffe implies that its untrue. What’s stupid about it is that Biden is doing McCain’s work for him by raising serious concerns about putting a completely untested politician as POTUS.

I don’t for a second believe anything Dan Rather says. Dan needs to look rational. All he is doing is what his attorney is telling him to do. Make a favorable impression on the jury pool for his law suit against CBS. Perhaps CBS will settle out of court. They wouldn’t if Dan came off as a raving lunatic.

Allahpundit is a writer whose former website, Allah Is In The House, was among the most popular conservative blogs of 2004. IMPORTANT DISTINCTIONS:

1. NBC falsely attributes Biden’s quote to his Seattle fundraiser. He did not say “steel in his spine” in Seattle; he said that in a similar speech the same day in San Francisco.

2. NBC willfully chose to focus on the SFO speech with its mitigating “steel in his spine” quote instead of the far more damning Seattle speech. Funny that.

NBC conflates the two speeches so that they can reduce the damage to Obama-Biden.

I myself like liberal Democrat sniveling. There is a certain je ne sais quoi about your running mate saying you have steel in your spine when it comes to standing up against foriegn bad guys, but the general public isn’t allowed to say your middle name because it hurts your widdle feewings.

That is some freaking field grade sniveling, Jack!

WOW. Coming from a democrat hack. I do agree with Rather, and he has first hand experience, the internet will expose this comment to overwhelming proportions as it should. You can’t expect liberal papers to do the work.

Thank goodness, sometimes, for the internet.

jencab on October 21, 2008 at 12:28 PM

[Biden] basically said that enemies would cause an international crisis to test Obama and find out that he has a spine of steel not as Joe S. implied that Obama’s election would trigger an international crisis.

barry norris on October 21, 2008 at 12:03 PM

Biden said both, actually. He did clearly imply that Obama, like Kennedy, would prompt our enemies to test him more than other (older, more experienced) new presidents have in the past. And yes, this setup was a lead-up to the conclusion that is largely being ignored, which is that Biden thinks our enemies will be surprised and dismayed to find that Obama has a steel spine.

The problem with Biden’s conclusion is that there is absolutely no proof in Obama’s background or demeanor that he has a steel spine. He’s an unruffled debater, but he has no life experiences to tell us whether or not he really would have a spine of steel when confronted with real danger. We know for a certainty that McCain can stare into the face of America’s enemies and not crack because he has done so. We even know that Sarah Palin can stare down the barrel of a shotgun at a dangerous wild animal and pull the trigger. The only thing we know for sure that Obama can do in the face of danger is talk real purty. To be told that it is a virtual certainty that there will be a serious international crisis within 6 months of this guy taking office and to have nothing but Joe Biden’s assurance that Obama has a steel spine is disconcerting and draws most thinking people’s attention away from the gossamer ideas of hope and change and into the reality of what this soft, effete guy will do when an actual bad guy holds a gun up to America’s head.

I fear he’ll vote “present,” and I think a lot of other people may be waking up to that realization as well.

aero on October 21, 2008 at 12:29 PM

Why doesn’t anybody give the whole quote? Doesn’t he name countries that are in the “top four” that will attack us? What about our loins??? What about girding our loins? “Yeah”, Hawkdriver says to critics with his thumb on his nose, “Dear Leader isn’t a warmonger, he only attacks Americans who don’t agree with him!”

hawkdriver on October 21, 2008 at 12:41 PM

I can only believe that the internals are looking really bad for Obimby, so his campaign felt compelled to have peeps like Biden throw out this sort of nuanced crap.

Bishop on October 21, 2008 at 12:33 PM

I dunno — they yanked Biden off the trail pretty darned quickly after he said it. That gives me the impression that it was not a planned message and that it’s far more likely vintage Biden foot-in-mouth disease at work here.

So is it good or bad that these gifts (Spread the wealth around, guaranteed manufactured international crisis if you elect Barry O) came so late in the campaign?

Too late or just in time?

I’m torn personally – part of me says “Why hasn’t this been going on the past 6 months??” while the other half says “Alright, right when it will still be fresh in everyone’s minds when they go to pull the lever.”

Oh, for heaven’s sake. It wasn’t a gaffe, it was just badly stated.

Bartrams_Garden on October 21, 2008 at 12:36 PM

That’s what a gaffe IS. A poorly-thought-out statement; a faux pas; a blunder.

aero on October 21, 2008 at 12:43 PM

With Biden, you have got to believe that only 50% of what he spews out his pie hole is planned. The rest is a stream of conciousness.

bloggless on October 21, 2008 at 12:43 PM

So are we to take it that Rather read Card?

A gaffe is inadvertantly speaking an uncomfortable truth.

“Plugs” is the gift that just keeps on giving…

d1carter on October 21, 2008 at 12:45 PM

Grue, we don’t really know what is going on with the public. The only guages we have are the media and those silly polls. Trust only what you can verify. McCain and Palin are pulling in huge crowds. They give a good message. We can use Biden as a bellweather.

bloggless on October 21, 2008 at 12:45 PM

Bishop, he might have wanted Biden to talk up his foriegn policy potential, but you can’t mean he wanted a statement like that?
hawkdriver on October 21, 2008 at 12:38 PM

No I doubt he wanted something so creepy being said, but Obambi was stupid enough to trust Biden to say something without screwing it up. It’s why Joe took a break while his boss did too; keep the mistakes from piling up while Odimbulb is off the campaign trail.

I think it goes on more than we know. The press isn’t able to cover all their tracks. Some stuff gets out. The comment in SF about Clinging to their gun and religion with antipathy toward…” was unofficially recorded I think.

Isn’t it interesting that the Dems are delivering October surprises (spread the wealth, Obot1 won’t pass his first crisis test) to us?
Add Bonnie Fwank’s “the fundamentals are better than the psychology” crack about the economy (see HA’s post, Barney Frank wants more taxes) and MacPalin has all the ammo it needs for a late-game blitz.

Joe don’t do scripts! That’s the beauty of Joe. Listen long enough and you’ll get what you want.
