Obama to Tanning Bed Media: You must tithe before worshipping me

posted at 4:40 pm on October 21, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
Share on Facebook | regular view

After everything the Tanning Bed Media has done for Barack Obama, they must believe that they’re owed at least some free access to The One on Election Night.  Instead, the TBM has discovered that they’re SOL unless they cough up some Dough-Re-Mi:

The best-funded political campaign in American history says news organizations will have to pay—in some cases almost $2,000 each—if they want to cover Barack Obama’s election-night celebration in Chicago.

Well, that’s only fair.  If Obama winds up getting elected because of the cheerleading of the national media –who vetted a plumber more harshly than a major-party candidate for President — they should start paying before the rest of us pony up.

A memo sent to news organizations on Tuesday by the Obama campaign says credentials will cost $715 to $1,815, depending on whether electrical and phone lines are needed and whether an indoor or outdoor seat is requested for the event, which is expected to be held outside the evening of Nov. 4 in Grant Park.

A little advice for my colleagues in the Tanning Bed Media: think of it as spreading the wealth.  Yes, I know it will go to Obama and his team, but that’s where the rest of the wealth will go, too, if Obama wins.

The only free admissions are for a “general media” area. But, the memo says, “Please note that the general media area is outdoors, unassigned and may have obstructed views . . . standing room only.”

The area also does not include access to top Obama campaign officials, whose statements likely are to be in hot demand on Election Night. They apparently will be available only in the “press file” tent, to which an additional admission fee of $935 per person is being imposed.

Sounds a lot like how government will treat its citizens in the Age of Obama.  If you want access to officials, be prepared to pay, just like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac did with Obama, Chris Dodd, and Barney Frank.  Otherwise, get used to “obstructions” for the next four years.

Obama aides declined to answer questions about why a campaign that raised $150 million in the month of September is demanding such payments. But the memo already is drawing some protest.

Not only did they decline to answer questions, but right now they’re busy investigating anyone who still had the testicular fortitude to ask them after what happened to Joe the Plumber.  Expect to see information about tax liens, divorce records, and licensing appear in the papers by Thursday.

Don’t expect too much sympathy from us for the Tanning Bed Media.  The only reason why Obama’s in a position to demand tithes from the worshipping media is because journalists and editors didn’t do their jobs in the first place.

Update: I’ve explained Tanning Bed Media, but I don’t mind explaining it again.  When Sarah Palin got picked by John McCain for his running mate, the national media sent dozens of reporters to Wasilla and Juneau to dig up dirt on her — and only came away with the second-hand tanning bed she bought with her own money and put in the governor’s mansion.  The national media never bothered to put forth anywhere near that kind of effort to investigate Barack Obama or his connections to the New Party, Tony Rezko, the Daley Machine, the Strogers, William Ayers, or ACORN, and they had two years to do it.

Here’s a little clip that should get the Tanning Bed Media used to a prospective Obama administration. Coincidentally, this took place in a newsroom!

This is sorta like the prostitute paying the John prior to services being rendered.

I further suspect that “The FlatLine Media” does not much care about Obama being a threat to their First Amendment freedom for one of two reasons in particular:

EITHER

The FlatLine Media thinks they can – as they have so often in the past – build someone up, only to knock them down later and, hey, it ALL sells papers, so…what’s the prob?

OR

The FlatLine Media is SO cynical, that they RECOGNIZE the threat and are resigned to the fact – and quite jolly comfortable with it – that they would then become an integral part of the Obama power system (i.e. Federal Government)…

…calling Joseph Goebbels!!!

EEEEEEEeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww……..

It’s really sad that Obama is forced to do this because of his last month’s donations were a paltry 150 million. He can barely make the ends meet and pay for the lobster appetizers and lobsters with Iranian caviar at this rate. Poor thing might have to settle with nothing more than plain arugula salads. Teh horror.

originalpechanga on October 21, 2008 at 4:50 PM

If Obama gets elected (God forbid), we’ll all be paying . . . for many years to come.

The MSM cheerleaders who lied and covered for this corrupt Socialist fraud better get used to paying, because once the voting public figures out how badly they were conned, the backlash against the MSM is going to be huge.

AZCoyote on October 21, 2008 at 4:50 PM

You know, if anyone in the media wer not such emasculated little tools for Obama…

Now might be a great time for a case study in say, Obama’s treasury advisor’s tax liens, Obama’s foreign and obviously fraudulent donations, etc.

Seriously media, if you don’t want to be toadies for the next for years, now is the time to protest.

BKennedy on October 21, 2008 at 4:50 PM

bopbottle on October 21, 2008 at 4:52 PM

If the media had any balls, and they don’t, they would tell Obama to take a hike. But, this is the media who censured the atrocities going on in Iraq for years in order to have reporters stationed there. And they did it without any hesitation or feelings of shame.

Blake on October 21, 2008 at 4:52 PM

The only thing that could turn the MSM off Obama is him treating them like his servants. They’re much too big-headed to allow that.

Breaking news…OPEC to cut production and drive oil back up.

“Just as Americans are finally beginning to reap the benefits of plunging gasoline prices — including more money in their pockets — OPEC is getting ready to squeeze them once again by cutting oil production and driving up prices to refineries.

The 13-nation global oil cartel — which includes Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s Iran and Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela — will hold an emergency meeting in Vienna Friday to discuss the steep and rapid decline in oil prices.

“The era of cheap oil is finished,” Iran’s Oil Minister Gholamhossein Nozari boasted on Tuesday.

When asked what price Iran would want for its oil, Nozari declared, “The more the better.”

“A few member nations have voiced their intentions of pushing for a cut in production, including Qatar, Iran, as well as OPEC’s president Chekib Khelil, who said that output could be slashed by as much as 2 million barrels a day,” analysts for Raymond James & Associates told MarketWatch.com…”

I hate to see it happen, but this is a winning issue for McCain/Palin. This puts Drill, baby, drill back front and center. Sweet!

I really think they owe the taxpayers something. Like 10% percent of everything… straight into the stimulus package, they will soon help thrust down our throats.

I actually think that is fair. If they are the high poombas of this new leg tingling religion they should pay for it themselves.

upinak on October 21, 2008 at 5:05 PM

The OPEC story makes me think a few things.

1. “Drill, baby, drill!” makes a comeback, pushing all forms of energy production (oil, natural gas, nuclear, solar, etc.)

2. While countries like Iran are clamoring for a cut in production, I see *every single one* of the OPEC countries cheating and producing more than their official capped amount of oil produced.

These countries have expensive tastes paid for by petrodollars and they don’t trust each other enough to cut production like they agree to.

If all these countries continue producing the same amount of oil, the price will continue to drop until it hits equilibrium. (Somewhere in the $40-60 range sounds realistic.)

Thankfully as a consumer 2 million barrels won’t change the supply/demand contraction. Sarah will drill baby drill to keep the 100’s of billions of dollars in our own country rather than funding the nuts overseas. Opec at this point would have to cut by at least 5 million barrels a day. If prices could break $70 a barrel countries like Iran, Venezuela and possibly Russia would have to pump like no tomorrow to support their runaway spending commitments.
