The Blurb That Never Was

posted at 6:09 pm on October 20, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
Share on Facebook | regular view

It’s not the crime, it’s the cover-up. In the midst of Barack Obama’s continuing insistence that William Ayers was just some guy in the neighborhood (and just some guy on two non-profit boards with whom Obama worked for almost a decade), people asked why Obama then gave Ayers a promotional blurb for his book, A Kind and Just Parent: The Children of Juvenile Court. Team Obama spokesmen Bill Burton and Robert Gibbs categorically denied it.

Oops:

Maybe it’s another State Senator Barack Obama.  You know, another one who would have worked closely enough with an unrepentant terrorist to get an advance look at his new book, and to write promotional material for its sales.  One who partnered with Ayers on a multimillion-dollar school reform project that ended up a failure.  One who owed Ayers after the unrepentant terrorist help launch his career in a fundraiser in the Ayers/Dohrn household.  You know, there has to be at least a dozen Barack Obamas who fit that description!

On a more serious note, this wouldn’t be an issue if the Obama campaign would stop lying about the nature of his relationship with Ayers.  They’ve continually fibbed about it when the public record is pretty clear that they formed a political alliance meant to boost Obama’s electoral career.  Their inability to be honest about this relationship is what makes these lesser revelations more significant than they should be.  A modest blurb on an obscure book would have no meaning at all absent the fact that Team Obama lied about it on two separate occasions.

On a more serious note, this wouldn’t be an issue if the Obama campaign would stop lying about the nature of his relationship with Ayers.

The BHO campaign lies about nearly everything.

And this wasn’t just a blurb, as if someone just asked BHO to write a little something about this book. It was a column for people to blurb their FAVORITE books.

BHO is an outright fraud. Period.

progressoverpeace on October 20, 2008 at 6:13 PM

Or the Ayers that ghostwrote Dreams of my (Kenyan) Fathers.

Or the Ayers that shared an office building with bHo.

Burton and Gibbs spinning already, I am sure:

“It’s a destraction. Bush’s fault.”

tru2tx on October 20, 2008 at 6:14 PM

Their inability to be honest about this relationship is what makes these lesser revelations more significant than they should be.

That would be the case if it was reported in other outlets beside Fox and conservative publications. There was one good CNN piece, but everything else is spun to make McCain look desperate.

CanadianGuy on October 20, 2008 at 6:14 PM

What networks will air this story ? None. The media decided BHO will be the president months ago and there is nothing Hillary or McCain can do to stop them.

All we have left is the voice of the American people. We need it to speak loudly on Nov 4th.

If we elect O’Commie we deserve everything we will get.

Michelle was assigned as BHO’s mentor when he came to work for the same Chicago firm.
Ayers and BHO shared office space in Chicago.

You know, another one who would have worked closely enough with an unrepentant terrorist to get an advance look at his new book, and to write promotional material for its sales.

To be technical, Obama and crew are right. He did not write a blurb for the book based on an advanced copy. The photo you are showing is from a news paper box section entitle “Here’s What People Are Reading?” It neither supports the contention that Obama had an advance copy of the book nor that his quote was used by the publisher to promote the book. He was merely asked by a reporter what he was reading and gave a quote about Ayer’s book. The quote is damning in and of itself, and anyone who knows anything about PR knows that there is a lot more there than meets the eye. However, Obama and crew are technically correct. No blurb, no advance copy, just a prominently placed product endorsement for an unrepentant domestic terrorist. Is that not enough?

Not only does the blurb show the extensive relation that Obama had with Ayers, it is but a glimpse of their shared philosophies.
