527 ad: “Concerned about Obama?”

posted at 1:45 pm on October 20, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

The Republican Jewish Coalition has a new ad hitting Barack Obama on his naïve foreign policy.  They take Obama’s pledge to meet without preconditions with the heads of five terror-supporting nations, and compare his answer to Hillary Clinton’s:

I’d call this an overdue assessment of Obama’s lack of depth.  We’ve been talking about it for over a year, but not surprisingly, the Tanning Bed Media have mostly ignored it.  The timing of this ad seems pretty serendipitous, though, coming on the heels of Joe Biden’s remarks on how an untested and unprepared Obama administration will motivate our enemies abroad to create an international crisis to see just how weak Obama really is.

We should be concerned, yes.  As Geena Davis said in The Fly, “Be afraid.  Be very afraid.”

Between this ad and the bozo statement made earlier by Joe Biden that there would most likely be an international incident less than 6 months into B.O.’s Presidency, any THINKING person would be looking at this issue very closely.

But based on the current poll numbers, which I think are bogus regardless, I am wondering just how many people are there are really THINKING, period!

I feel your pain. I live in California which is a lock for Obama and I still have to watch his ads every commercial break. You would think that by living in a one party town, I’d be spared the torture of campaign commercials. No such luck.

I did learn that Obama doesn’t care about the CEOs though. He only cares about Joe and Jane Middle Class and how they are going to pay their bills. He didn’t say how he was going to find this magic bill-paying money, but I could tell he really cared. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. So, I think I might just be an Obamabot now. ;)

In the Dem party? Not many. They seem to only think about abortion rights, gay rights, the right to health care, rights of terrorists in Gitmo, rights for illegal aliens, spreading the wealth around, carbon dioxide killing us, whales getting rammed by the US Navy, evil Big Business, race, sex, and climate change.

Religious_Zealot on October 20, 2008 at 1:57 PM

He didn’t say how he was going to find this magic bill-paying money,

Easy – he’s going to tax the businesses and then send the money to taxpayers. He doesn’t really get the connection between taxes and prices though so prices will have to go up to cover the windfall tax and then he’ll condemn the companies for raising prices and tax them to help consumers and then the companies will raise prices to cover the tax increase and then…

DerKrieger on October 20, 2008 at 1:58 PM

Can SOMEBODY please splice the footage of Biden saying he stands by his comments that POTUS is not for on-the-job-training with regards to Barack, Hillary’s comments about hers and McCain’s lifetime of experience, Biden’s comments from yesterday GUARANTEEING that we will be tested by foreign nations and that our responses probably won’t be popular? The commercial writes itself.

Good ad. When Obama’s worldview meets US foreign policy, pain for the whole world ensues. His on-the-record unilateral moves unilaterally hurt America. He is terrible. He’s all warm and fuzzy, and doesn’t ever want to be seen as a bad guy. That’s like a surgeon who doesn’t want to use a scalpel because cutting people is wrong. He is so weak. Powell was the one who couldn’t get anyone in the world to support us, remember? And then correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t that Colin Powell in front of the UN convincing all of us we had to attack Iraq? So Obama is continuing the worst of the Bush administration? Colin Powell failed as Secretary of State. But now we should think it helps Obama to have him on his side. I see. Who is Bush III again?

Obama, “I would”….

He actually meant to say “I’m looking forward to it”.

A lot of the folks standing in the shadows behind Obama think and believe that the terror/fascists states mentioned in the Ad actually have the solutions. From Ayers to Wright and several others the leaders mentioned are honored.

Obama will be going to see these folks looking for answers that he hopes to incorporate into the new America he envisions. Situational ethics and the end justifies the means will be the currency of an Obama administration. If Ayers and Wright are to be believed from their books and speeches white America needs to be brought low to enable their view of the world. This is a view shared by all the leaders shown in the AD.

My only hope is that Obama is just your standard, I’ll do anything or say anything to get in office kind of politician. Once there he will kick back and throw everyone under the bus and do whatever it takes to be popular–Bill Clinton in black-face.

Ken Adelman to vote for Obama:

starfleet_dude on October 20, 2008 at 4:39 PM

Who did he support during the nomination process?

Huckabee’s bigotry toward Romney gave us McCain. Did he do anything to give us someone other than a RINO with a record of fighting against his own party?

We all had issues with McCain and most of us had issues with Palin.

When the discussion of VP picks started last summer and Palin was a favorite among many, I disagreed because I felt she would be a poor choice of any candidate because of her lack of experience and she comes from a very small state that lacks diversity because it is dominated by one industry.

I was totally opposed to McCain because of his self righteous attitude and being out of touch. The day that he stood for photo’s with the truthers, I called his national office and had to explain to them who the truthers were and that John better get as far from them as possible. His lead guy had to go to the truthers website that I gave him just to get up to speed on their lunacy. It goes without saying that I opposed his work with campaign finance reform and the immigration plan. And on top of that, I don’t like senators as presidents.

But, the base was split by Huckabigot and his quest for the VP slot, and to simply deny a Mormon the opportunity.

So, now we are stuck with McCain. Palin has excited me and the base, and I don’t see her pick as a reason to question McCain’s judgment. He had to pick her to bolster his weak bona fides as a conservative AND most people wouldn’t think she should be at the top of the ticket. John solidified that perception by the way she was mishandled in the initial weeks after her selection.

This is why IF McCain loses, which I do not think he will, we will CRUCIFY HIM until he leaves office.

Because McCain wont go all out, this rests in others hands and not McCain’s. Obama/Biden need to screw up, a national security issue must arise, or the 527′s need to attack Wright etc.

Exit question: If you had millions to spend on a 527 ad, and you can see that John isn’t availing himself of the tools he has to defeat Obama, would you throw your money away, or would you spend it on serious candidates in 2010?

csdeven on October 20, 2008 at 5:14 PM

It’s a foregone conclusion that The Poot and Mad Mahmoud will make mincemeat of Osama Obama. Same for either Castro and Li’l Kim

As Richard Lugar has said, refusing to talk with your enemies can be irresponsible and even dangerous. Dialogue isn’t about sharing pleasantries over tea, as many on the right assume. When confronting an enemy, ‘talking’ means:
- laying out in clear terms what behavior is considered unacceptable to the USA
- describing the consequences the enemy can expect if its behavior continues without change
- explaining how the opponent can benefit if it changes its behavior

Why is this type of dialogue, recommended by statesmen like James Baker and Henry Kissinger, so frightening to right wing nuts? Don’t you understand how diplomacy works?

Under Bush, refusing to talk has been a total failure. In practice, our opponents have found that directly threatening our vital interests is the best way to handle the ‘silent’ treatment. In other words, it has encouraged our enemies to pursue the very policies that the USA has sought to discourage. Iran and N. Korea both brought the USA to the negotiating table by expanding anti-American policies. After being snubbed over Kosovo and NATO missiles, Russia sent its troops streaming into our ally Georgia’s territory.

Under Bush, our enemies have learned that the best way to gain negotiating leverage is by going for the American jugular in various parts of the world. In N. Korea, Iran, and Russia either completely or partially ignoring our opponents or competitors had no positive effect. It simply hasn’t worked, as Baker, Kissinger, and others will point out.

Your response is nothing new. I remember your shilling for her. And if you’d be honest, you’d admit that MOST of us opposed her.

This isn’t about Obama’s qualifications. It is about what was available to John and what he chose. Just go take a look at how Alaska ranks in issues verses other states. Between 45th and 50th on almost every issue. GSP, population, etc. What Sarah has done is almost NOTHING compared to other choices John could have made. Romney is ten times more qualified than Palin and is arguable more qualified than McCain in many areas. This is the reason McCain chose Palin. Even though she is a conservative, a former mayor, a governor, has experience in energy, has energized the base and fights corruption, she is way less qualified than McCain. He had to have a candidate that was less qualified than he is or else he is weakened.

That is what happens when we chose the weakest candidate to be our nominee. His choices for a running mate must be weaker than he is.

You worship Palin, we get it. But your view isn’t the only view and much of your view plays into the view that McCain is erratic, as the left portray him, and poor in judgment as the right portray him.

Having said that, and before you submit a vitriolic comment, McCain/Palin is what we have and I support them 100%. But I don’t believe for one second that this was the best we could muster.
