Quote of the day
posted at 9:30 pm on October 18, 2008 by Allahpundit
“‘If we were to go up with an ad during the final weeks of this campaign just showing excerpts of [Wright's] sermons, we would probably win,’ says one senior McCain aide, who declined to be named discussing internal debates on tactics. ‘But we won’t.’“

The enemy uses the “two wrongs make a right” fallacy very effectively to their advantage. Step 1: Accuse the opponent of a wrong, whether true or not. Step 2: Commit same wrong yourself some time later. Step 3: Disguise devious methods with legitimate or culturally sensitive covers. Step 4: Dodge any criticism by pointing to opponent’s previous wrongdoings. Step 5: Move forward with ad hominem attacks, inspiring fear in opponents that will keep them from ever again challenging you on said matters.
Examples: ACORN, Jeremiah Wright, illegal immigration, Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac…

I’m surprised that Reverand Wright hasn’t been made a co-star in any jihadi videos…
He kind of had the same vibe out of 9/11 that the dancing Palestinians and Wright has already got their word out…
ninjapirate on October 18, 2008 at 9:43 PM
Senator McCain has done well to get this close despite being against $500,000,000–much of it illegally obtained–& against the media. But he would do better if he didn’t beat the Ayers dead horse with one hand & prevent anyone from saying “Hussein” with the other.
jgapinoy on October 18, 2008 at 9:44 PM
Only if you can tie them together – absolutely. He has (barely)plausible denyability that he heard his ‘fiery sermons’ but wasn’t there for the US is responsible for 9/11, God Damned America and the others, which came from his mouth, not Obama. And even Ron Paul is on record for going along with the ‘we’re responsible for 9/11′ BS.
If McCain does this, the media will be even more against him to the American people (and yes they can get worse) and this will cost him. In my non-expert opinion. The 527′s should hammer this. Other people who want to buy their own ad time or stage events that get news attention need to hammer this. And now it’s too late for someone to come out with a ‘documentary’ before the election like Michael Moore did with F9/11 to hit Obama on this. In my opinion. Or some other such project, because this type of project takes a long time to produce and get out into the theaters or in other media.

And yet, the angry left and the media are savaging McCain for his campaign tactics. It doesn’t matter what he does, he’ll still be accused of unfair attacks, so he might as well use Wright. He’s douing the country a disservice, frankly, by not reminding voters of that disturbing associate of Obama’s, one among many. And, if they don’t use it now and Obama wins, then they can’t possibly go back to it in 2012. Nor to Ayers…C’mon McCain, fight like you said you were gonna.

How the hell is it racist to have an ad showing Wright speaking in his own words and pointing out that Obama developed a close relationship with this guy?
It exposes the whole Obama rhetoric of being beyond race with the “There is not a black America and a white America” as a big lie.

I’ve been watching the new Fox special on Obama and associations tonight. It’s on twice more this weekend.
There was a disturbing clip of Obama at an Acorn convention. He told them that he wants all community organizers in DC even before he’s inaugurated to provide input into his adminstration. I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t want any of his community organizing extortionists involved in anything having to do with our federal government.
I wish McCain would get on Obama and Ayers in wasting the $161 million on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. In this economy, who wants a president wasting extraordinary money on a hard-left agenda? Tie that up with “redistributing the wealth” and that’s how you tie Ayers around Obama’s neck–and effectively so. I’m bothered by Ayers’s domestic terrorism, but nobody outside 40% of the country does. That said, I still think that the middle 20% of the country won’t like to hear how Obama and Ayers squandered $161 million on a bunch of nonsense programs.
Cryin’ out loud. Wake up, voters.

Andrew Sullivan makes an important point:
“Obama’s skin color has obscured a pretty basic fact about him: he seems to have had a very conservative private life as a public figure. His marriage and family life have been much more traditional than John McCain’s – someone who admits to promiscuity and adultery and divorce. Unlike McCain he’s a long-time regular church-goer.”
Sully misses the irony of that comment.

But I see your point. Let me off my congratulations right now to John McCain for leaving the single biggest weapon in his arsenal locked up in the back shed. Thanks buddy! Every time our favorite socialist rolls out some asinine proposal, I’ll chuckle thinking about how we just let him skate in.

John McCain should come out with a commercial that apologizes to the American public. He should call it “October Surprise”.
He should say that “this was going to be Obama’s October Surprise to sink my campaign, so I am going to apologize for it now”. He will then go on to apologize for being a part of a White Supremacist Church for 20 years, but express that he has stopped going this year. He will also inform the public that he has been friends and coworkers with a former abortion clinic terrorist, who wishes he had bombed more clinics and killed more doctors. He will state that he thought this terrorist had been rehabilitated, but learned just this year that he was unrepentant.
He will then say he feels good being able to come clean with this, because he has seen how the American public has been so forgiving to Obama who has the same situation.
Then sit back and watch the press and the Left go nuts.
Michael in MI on October 18, 2008 at 10:31 PM
Sorry.
If McCain wins it will be because this country still leans conservative. If he wins it will be because others have made the case that Obama tends to socialism. Yeah, that means Rush, that means Hannity, but it also means Joe the Plumber. And Joe has nothing to do with the McCain campaign.
The best weapon that McCain has used yet was the celebrity series. That was clever. He was well positioned to score points as a reform ticket, but he didn’t move past earmarks.
He may have effective weapons, but most of the heavy lifting so far has been done by others. Palin does a great job, but the McCain camp screwed her use up too.

Other than what the media reports what happens at McCain and Palin rallies, (headline and a few selective quotes such as the ‘crazy McCain town hall woman who claimed that Obama is an Arab) I don’t have independent verification that McCain never talks about Wright.
