Open thread: Palinmania on SNL

Will they keep it light, or will Lorne and co. gratify the wettest wet dreams of HuffPo and dKos by sandbagging her with some sort of “Don’t vote for this woman!” ambush? Either way, the long-awaited confrontation between the ‘Cuda and the woman who claims she’ll have to leave Earth if Palin wins makes it worth watching. Weigh in below. While we wait, food for thought from Fred Barnes:

In the weeks after the convention, she was limited to two major TV interviews. When she did poorly in one–the Katie Couric interview–Democrats and hostile columnists unloaded, calling her unqualified to be vice president. There was little contrary evidence in the press by which to judge her or defend her.

I asked Palin whether she’d do things differently if she could repeat those weeks. She answered by silently mouthing “yes.” When two aides–we were on a McCain-Palin bus with staff and security–said “yes” aloud, she chimed in, “Yes, yes, yes, yes.”…

Now, despite her political talent, Palin’s future is unclear.

Not sure what was to be gained in NYC among mostly brainwashed libtards and media elites but it did show SP is gracious and a good sport.

I believe America is awake and aware and the real joke will be on Barry in November.

Palin did the right thing by going on SNL & she was great. I don’t understand why some here didn’t like it, she needs to appeal to the younger voters & as someone posted earlier they will think she is cool (sad. but true) we need the votes folks.

Guys,

OT but I must send you all this link. Obama’s Use of Hidden Hypnosis Techniques in His Speeches.

This researched article actually convinced all of my suspicions about him. I had asked myself for a few months the question, “Why is it that you see so many pictures of people swooning and acting like a mega-church’s Praise and Worship segment whenever they hear him speak at a rally?”

It also made me understand why so many young people are susceptible to him – and why there have been so many instances of violent attacks against Republicans, McCain campaign workers, and even people’s property.

Go. Read. Now. And then, pray hard. This nation is in graver danger than I ever thought possible.

If he’s elected President, the TV is permanently turned off at my house. My 22-month-old daughter wasn’t even watching him on TV for five minutes once this week, and she was going “Obama! Obama!” Just like that. What is she to know about him, really? She’s a toddler! My motherly gut told me that there was something seriously wrong with this.

I’m thinking they don’t need riling up in the least for the next 2 weeks. I’m really worried about physical violence that could occur these last days of the campaign. Those losing power are the mean ones too. Yikes!

It would be cool to go as a spy. Pretend to be a McCain supporter and tape/write down all you can and report back on it. They’ll speak their mind those they think are of their own kind.

They are worried about physical violence? Well, that’s the pot calling the kettle….. Oops! Better censor myself before I’m branded a raaaaacist.

.
“…Here in Ireland, can’t figure out why you people are even bothering to hold an election in the States.
.
On one side:
you have a pants wearing female lawyer, married to another lawyer who can’t seem to keep his pants on, who just lost a long and heated primary against a lawyer, who goes to the wrong church, who is married to yet another lawyer, who doesn’t even like the country her husband wants to run!
.
Now…On the other side:
you have a nice old war hero whose name starts with the appropriate ‘Mc’ terminology, married to a good looking younger woman who owns a beer distributorship!!

Trust me.

Sarah Palin just got a huge boost in her favorables.

This was really, really good for her.

I confidently predict that the crowds at her appearances are going to spontaneously begin shouting “Ayers” back every time she says “Obama.”

It’s going to become a thing — and more than any smoking gun (yes, even the “shared an office for three years” and “he babysat their kids, fer Pete’s sake” the stupid, stupid, “I say Obama, You say Ayers” line is going to stick the association).

I spotted it right away after listening to HH talk about counterfeit revival preachers who hypnotize the audience to get big donations using a voice roll, repetitive word patterns in speech, loud music, controlled temperature, actors who faint, etc. I’m looking forward to loking at this material…thanks for linking it up.

darkegop on October 19, 2008 at 1:04 AM

Interesting in this context, Mark1971, that you mention the Zogby poll. If you scroll down, there’s this interesting piece of analysis:

McCain made a big move Saturday among independent voters, cutting’s Obama lead from 16 points to just 8 points. Now, Obama leads by a 46% to 38% margin, with the balance of independents either unsure or supporting someone else. McCain’s strong performance at the Alfred E. Smith charity dinner in New York City Thursday, combined with his appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman Thursday night, may have had a positive effect. Other Zogby polling has recently shown that independent undecided voters tend to prefer consuming their politics in such entertainment venues. Obama was also praised for his performance at the Alfred E. Smith dinner.

I think the argument for Palin to make this appearance becomes crystal clear and very hard to dispute.

CK MacLeod on October 19, 2008 at 1:04 AM

For anybody watching who isn’t suffering from PDS, her class and sense of comfort being herself among people who don’t like her has got to have made a huge impression. So yeah, net win as far as slowing the spread of PDS, but it wasn’t worth the loss of sleep.

Just watched Tina Fey verrryy carefully at the ending – everyone on stage. She hugged Josh Brolin and then you could see that she was coming toward Sarah Palin getting ready to greet her (it looked like) then the camera cut off.

Arrgh.

I do think she was going to speak to her though. I thought after their no-speak at the beginning that Tina was just hatin’ on Palin to her face (You can have her on but I’m not gonna speak to her!)

Have you seen that “We Are Building a Religion” clip? You know, the one that was yanked from YouTube? Some of those pictures appear there. There are plenty more from the AP out there. Just take a look, and don’t tell me that you’re not concerned.

Obama using hidden hypnosis techniques

It’s called NLP, which stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. I tried to study it myself a number of years back but I didn’t have the discipline. An acquaintance uses it to pick up women and seems to have a great of deal of success. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Obama was doing it. It might explain some of the more bizarro defections of late.

Enoxo on October 19, 2008 at 1:08 AM

The funniest thing that happened during this show:

In Michigan we have a proposal (Prop. 2) to allow stem cell research. There is the typical types of commercials one would except, up to and including a young paraplegic cheerleader. Anyway during one of the last commercial breaks the local station misjudged a hand off….

It was a Heroes commercial and there was the typical dramatic music…

Peter Patrelli: Can’t you see you’re going to destroy the world?
Peter’s dad: I don’t see it that way, Peter.
Ominous voice as the words appear on the screen: You can’t choose your family.
:screen cuts to a cute blond paraplegic in a wheelchair:
blond: I was paralyzed in an accident.

Most tragically timed mistake EVER! I wish I had TiVo, because you’d have to see it to believe how flawless the transition to the stem cell commercial was.

Don’t feel like staying up, but I’m a bit curious about whatever was said about Clarence Thomas that upset K-Lo at NRO (I don’t presume that it would take much, of course).

I didn’t catch no hit on Clarence Thomas. I’ll look at it again tomorrow, I guess.

The hit on Justice Thomas came after they mentioned Chief Justice Roberts’s opinion written in detective novel style. It was along the lines of (I quote from memory) “Not to be outdone, Justice Thomas wrote an opinion as a letter to Penthouse.”

Clearly a good move for Palin.

Really horrible for SNL.

They had to know that this was going to be their biggest audience in a long time — and they did absolutely nothing to convince any of the new viewers to stay up next week, or even to set our TiVos.

The cast member that hugged her is Casey Wilson. Her dad is Republican campaign strategist Paul Wilson.

Funny I should say that… turns out she’s a new cast member, just joined February 2008.

SHE’S A PLANT!!!!!!

If more people had seen the normal side of Sarah Palin, McCain would be up 5 points at least. Instead, McCain’s PR team let her image be some Jesus freak bimbo.

Tell the bottom of the lake I said hi.

They said Clarence Thomas wrote an opinion in the form of a Penthouse letter.

I know what you mean – I met a woman in Office Depot back when obama visited Corpus Christi during the primaries. She was certifiably insane for the man.

But Jim Jones – esque? I’m not convinced. I just think there are too many people who are pissed at Bush and who will vote for anything other than a Republican.

pullingmyhairout on October 19, 2008 at 1:11 AM

think casey wilson just killed her acting career?

darkegop on October 19, 2008 at 1:11 AM

Fey didn’t WANT to stand next to Palin…she’s now seen her up close and personal, didn’t want to be shown up which she knew she would. heh heh heh

JustTruth101 on October 19, 2008 at 1:12 AM

SNL had to reach back and include Clarence Thomas and Quayle jokes.

I think not.

Yeah, I’m no environmentalist, but it seems way too cruel to the whales.

they’re still making fun of quayle’s “potatoe” 16 years after the fact – but can’t squeeze out one joke about biden’s favorite 3-letter words … j-o-b-s
