Will they keep it light, or will Lorne and co. gratify the wettest wet dreams of HuffPo and dKos by sandbagging her with some sort of “Don’t vote for this woman!” ambush? Either way, the long-awaited confrontation between the ‘Cuda and the woman who claims she’ll have to leave Earth if Palin wins makes it worth watching. Weigh in below. While we wait, food for thought from Fred Barnes:
In the weeks after the convention, she was limited to two major TV interviews. When she did poorly in one–the Katie Couric interview–Democrats and hostile columnists unloaded, calling her unqualified to be vice president. There was little contrary evidence in the press by which to judge her or defend her.
I asked Palin whether she’d do things differently if she could repeat those weeks. She answered by silently mouthing “yes.” When two aides–we were on a McCain-Palin bus with staff and security–said “yes” aloud, she chimed in, “Yes, yes, yes, yes.”…
Now, despite her political talent, Palin’s future is unclear.

mccain dow 2 in gallup. it was worse that that before palin showed up.
darkegop on October 19, 2008 at 12:14 AM
Oh, and she’s the Vice President candidate. Biden can barely pull 3,000.
Enoxo on October 19, 2008 at 12:14 AM
I guarantee that we’ll later hear that the sketch was written that way because Tina Fey refused to appear on stage with Sarah Palin.
Palin being so far “beneath” her and all…
Gilda on October 19, 2008 at 12:14 AM
JetBoy – eat it. Nobody wants to drink your liberal shineola.
Republican on October 19, 2008 at 12:14 AM
Um, I love Governor Palin… but has she ever pulled a crowd of 100K? If so, I sure haven’t heard about it or seen it blogged.
Republican on October 19, 2008 at 12:11 AM
She has pulled in millions of people, we simply don’t have as many individuals who can afford to take time from work and family to attend a speech.
That isn’t a problem for the left, half of the DFL base is made up of people who don’t worry about being late for work, if you know what I mean.

Colin Powell released a statement endorsing Obama.
SnarkVader on October 19, 2008 at 12:15 AM
Are you shitting me?
BTW, I know you are not a troll… been on this site long enough to know that. :)
pullingmyhairout on October 19, 2008 at 12:15 AM
Tying Palin to Baldwin (Arm in arm, walking off screen) was enough. Baldwin was (symbolically) in THE LEAD.
Why did Palin agree to lock arms with Alec?
Anyone? Bueller?
Ugly on October 19, 2008 at 12:15 AM
SNL got a ratings boost for much ado about nothing. They were afraid of giving her actual lines because she would have killed them so well. The funniest part to me was that Alec Baldwin was even in the same room with Palin; I thought it was kind of cute that he took her arm. But only informed people like us will get the gravity of such a gesture.
I spent all day manning the McCain/Palin HQ in Orlando. It was a very busy day :) Chin up, folks. We have Palin Power.
P.S. Peggy Noonan needs to be slapped, told to get out of her dope daze and live a few minutes in the real world. I always called her the concerned Mother Hen of the conservative movement. It appears she’s pecked herself bald.
ashleymatt on October 19, 2008 at 12:15 AM
Please respect Palin. I know several “junior” officers in the Specil Forces community who have a pool going on the Month, Day, and Year the military has to step in and install Palin.
bill30097 on October 19, 2008 at 12:15 AM
There are claims that she got 70,000 in florida…
Come on, democrats are the urban party… Kerry got 80,000 in Wisconsin and Mondale got 100,000 in New York in 1984… and Mondale even lost New York…
ninjapirate on October 19, 2008 at 12:15 AM
“Dem troll”???? Wow, you don’t know me very well. But this is exactly what p’s me off about my own (yeah, I’m a die-hard Republican) party.
I’m going to bed. Enjoy your Palin-palooza.
JetBoy on October 19, 2008 at 12:15 AM
McCain sucks and I would be more energized with Palin at the top of the ticket. McAmnesty deserves that nickname whether you want to see the truth or not. If Palin were at the top of the ticket Wright would be in every ad she was making and she wouldn’t have abandoned Michigan. McCain is making me pull my hair out.
NotCoach on October 19, 2008 at 12:15 AM
I believe she has drawn the largest crowd for any VICE PRESIDENTIAL candidate in history. Any idea how many Joe the Six-Term Senator gets?
Ronnie on October 19, 2008 at 12:15 AM
Great, they ran the RNC Obama “Least Experienced” commercial
11 minutes of commercials in 25 minutes

OT: I was just watching a bit of ‘Red Eye’ on FOX. Is it sexist of me to say that I would love to see Patti Ann Brown in a bikini?

Wow, even the Weekend Update segment is lame tonight.

Colin, the racist RINO?
Right_of_Attila on October 19, 2008 at 12:16 AM
Exactly. They could have hit out of the ball park this week. It’s a very weak show.
terryannonline on October 19, 2008 at 12:17 AM
The laugh track is perfunctory.

Today I saw a headline on FreeRepublic quoting a crowd size of 100K in St Louis (I think) for….wait for it…….Mondale and Ferraro in 1984!!!! And look how that turned out :p
Fortunata on October 19, 2008 at 12:18 AM
He’s not a troll. He’s more like an out of touch East Coast conservative that liberals love. Like David Brooks.
NotCoach on October 19, 2008 at 12:19 AM
Why would anyone ever watch this again after this? I won’t.

Secretary Powell: Thank you for using the credibility of Republican presidents to underscore your national security credentials and experience, and then throwing them under the bus to endorse Obama.

darkegop on October 19, 2008 at 12:21 AM
I wish I’d written my prediction which is that it would be unfunny and a net “meh”, basically, which it was.
However… gotta agree that Fey does not hold up well in comparison to the real thing. I hadn’t seen her do the impression before tonight, and I thought it was awful. She doesn’t even really look like Sarah. And all this fuss about Fey’s impersonation? WTF?
Anyway… to think that Sarah has to *play down* her appearance. Good lord, Todd, you are a LUCKY man.
Purple Fury on October 19, 2008 at 12:21 AM
He said it was a fake.
terryannonline on October 19, 2008 at 12:21 AM
Who cares about Colin Powell. The main thing to remember is that Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and their ilk are dishonest bastards. Never give up.

Oh puleeze! Here in St. Louis they pulled every homeless person off the street and out of shelters, every black family in E. St. Louis and north St. Louis and any democrat city worker (which is all of them) and had them all show up for his highness.

Thanks.
Well, I’m voting McCain/Palin, always was. But dang…all the criticism aimed at McCain for months, and some can’t take a little aimed at Palin.
Just sayin’…to some…
‘nite all.

Two and a half weeks left. You CAN take it! Look, if we lose it gives us a rally point. If we win we all get to serve up Crow-tartar. I can’t jump onboard the Comet-to-Doomsday over this. I’ll still have to get up and pay the bills every day and so do you. Fight the good fight but keep some smelling salts in the corner just in case.

Does anyone out there watching the “Weekend Update” segment long for FNC’s “Half Hour News Hour”?
OK, maybe just me.
But it was certainly better than this crap. Oy, this is tedious.

People only watch SNL cuz it was funny 30 years ago.
Imagine. Only SNL could make a show with: Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, David Spade and Chris Farley. And have it suck, consistently.
Flabergasting.

‘Cuda: “Have a pleasant tomorrow.” was Tina Fey’s old line.

I think the hard thing for her was to not screw up. Doing it, there was a chance to screw up. Her limited roll, insulated her from screwing up.
WoosterOh on October 19, 2008 at 12:29 AM
Definite props to Amy P. Still, what was the point of having Gov. Palin there? It could have been Seth saying, “She had to leave on a hunting trip. Amy, can you cover for her?”
wordsson on October 19, 2008 at 12:29 AM
The moose getting gunned down right in front of Palin was funny.

This idiotic rap skit is tres embarrassing. There’s no dignity left in the GOP. If they do win, it will be the biggest pyrrhic victory in the history of the Republic.

pullingmyhairout on October 19, 2008 at 12:30 AM
That wasn’t horrible… but it wasn’t particularly funny either. It was simply modern day SNL – mediocre at best.
So was that Weekend Update thing the only thing Palin did, or did I miss her on earlier?
