WSJ: Fear the coming liberal revolution

posted at 2:55 pm on October 17, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

What will a Barack Obama presidency mean?  It will almost certainly give Democrats an undivided government, their first since 1993.  In that period, Democrats tried nationalizing the health-care industry — and that was under the direction of a DLC-sponsored moderate President.  Under Barack Obama, the Wall Street Journal predicts a return to 1965 … or 1933:

If the current polls hold, Barack Obama will win the White House on November 4 and Democrats will consolidate their Congressional majorities, probably with a filibuster-proof Senate or very close to it. Without the ability to filibuster, the Senate would become like the House, able to pass whatever the majority wants.

Though we doubt most Americans realize it, this would be one of the most profound political and ideological shifts in U.S. history. Liberals would dominate the entire government in a way they haven’t since 1965, or 1933. In other words, the election would mark the restoration of the activist government that fell out of public favor in the 1970s. If the U.S. really is entering a period of unchecked left-wing ascendancy, Americans at least ought to understand what they will be getting, especially with the media cheering it all on.

Some will say that the Democrats deserve a shot at undivided government again, since the Republicans had four years of control over both chambers of Congress and the White House in the Bush years.  (Democrats controlled the Senate from 2001-2, thanks to Jumping Jim Jeffords.)  Many Republicans, myself included, would gladly agree that the GOP didn’t use its opportunity to change the governing philosophy in Washington, but merely adopted its worst power-hoarding practices.  That lost opportunity doesn’t mean the Democrats would make the same mistake.

Read the entire WSJ editorial.  They note that in 1933 and 1965, liberal Democrats fundamentally abused the nature of government and its relationship to the economy in ways we still have not corrected.  What changes can we expect in an Obama administration?

  • Nationalized health care
  • Union supremacy and a boost of cash to the Democratic Party
  • Massive tax increases and redistributionism
  • Curtailed free-speech protections

It’s not a pretty picture.

…don’t forget ’bout dem reparations…

The GOP should push for them. Imagine the fun watching Dems vote against them. If they don’t, just think of it as a “race card buy back program.”

Ezekial 37-39 predicts a scenario where Israel exists as a nation (at the time Ezekial wrote it, it did not) and a coalition of nations, led by Persia (iran) joined by Russia, reluctantly, invade Israel. no nation comes to Israel’s aid…but the Lord Himself goes to war…and all will know it…..and the invading forces are destroyed…

No one did before John Nelson Darby started making these arguments in the early 1800’s. No one. Adulterer C.I. Scofield added summaries of Darby’s rants in his Scofield Reference Bible notes, and stupid people have been repeating these lies ever since.

WWJD? (What Would Jefferson Do?)

Jefferson, and many of the other Founding Fathers, would call for violent revolution. Seriously, they would do it in a heartbeat. Jefferson thought violent revolution would be necessary as often as every 25 years or so to maintain the people’s power against the government.

Many still beleive in Post-Millenialism and all the prophecies came to past a long time ago, Satan was defeated at the Cross, we are in process of building Jesus Kingdom through Dominion(Capitalism) and things keep getting better over time, not worse(though this does happen in short time periods but not the longer periods).

Then there are the more polite Amillenialist, anyway point is plenty of evangelical christians have very different beleifs there. World has survived for long periods before without a piece of land named Israel. Though we should support and protect them

1 John 2:18
Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

In 1 John 2:18 St. John is referring to prophetic teaching with which his readers were obviously familiar.

A) It is the last time

B) You’ve heard that anti-Christ should come in the last time

C) Anti-Christs are everywhere, which is

D) Proof that we are in the last time

Rev. 1:1 says that everything that follows are things that must shortly come to pass. Rev. 22 says the time is at hand.

The “time of Jacob’s trouble,” Jer. 30:7, was the war between the Jews and Romans resulting in the siege and sack of Jerusalem in AD 70. Matt. 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 all describe this event, which occurred nearly 2,000 years ago. In fact, the events prophesied in Matt. 24 are bracketed with Matt. 23:36 and Matt. 24:34, “All these things shall come upon this generation,” perfectly consistent with St. John’s words.

Akzed on October 17, 2008 at 3:48 PM

Akzed on October 17, 2008 at 3:44 PM

I am not a believer in Biblical prophesy, but I find it hard to argue against the idea that biblical scenarios are currently being played out pretty faithfully. Whether or not Russia is part of the prophesy is a minor issue. BHO in office will leave Israel with no friends, at all, and a bunch of nations that have been trying to exterminate the Jews, there, for a long time. A fight is in the offing (as we all know that Iran must be confronted by someone, eventually) and Israel’s only real defense is nuclear. Make of it what you will, but the questions over the particulars of biblical passages pales in comparison to the shape of events unfolding.

Russians weren’t even Russian until nearly 1000 years after Christ was born, but the lands of the steppes, if that was Gog and Magog, would have been Tartar, not Slavic. They were the masters of the horse.

Of course, anyone can look back at a loosely-worded passage and say “they meant this, not that!” I think that’s what’s going on here in regards to Russia and Ezekial.

Anna on October 17, 2008 at 3:54 PM

The US has been, singlehandedly, holding up much of the Western world, and then some. With a weak US, the entire world descends into real chaos (and a few billion of the new folks on Earth disappear).

progressoverpeace on October 17, 2008 at 3:38 PM

Chaos is coming whether the US is weak or not. Muslims have been allowed to emigrate to almost every country in the world. Also the US tends to take the Muslim side in every conflict so who knows maybe a strong US would help the Muslims destroy the Western world.

Prophecy: specific enough to be interesting, vague enough to be interpretable.

Rule No. 22 of the Fantasy Storyteller Guidebook. Unfortunately applies to most Biblical prophecy as well.

Israel has every right to exist and to defends herself, ok? Lemme get that straight. But Christians (should) believe that the Church is the people of God now, the new Israel (Gal. 3:26; 6:16; He. 12:18-24). Therefore, the reestablishment of Israel has nothing to do with prophecy.

People like Right have been switching gears as to who the latest anti-Christ is for 100 years, ever since the adulterer Scofield put Darby’s comments in the notes of his “reference Bible.” Bismark, Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, even Reagan, now Obama. Enough!!!

I know for a fact that you’re right, and when I’m ruled by logic I follow sound advise like that. I’ll agree today because of you, but you should know that some of what made it so ugly last time is what they said about your mother. It doesn’t matter to people like him if you engage or stay away. They’ll hate anyway. It’s what they know.

Israel has every right to exist and to defends herself, ok? Lemme get that straight.

Of course. The problem is that, left by herself, Israel will need to resort to much stronger measures in her own defense. The idiot Euros did the same thing to the US with Iraq. If the morons in Europe could have backed the US, or at least not become our enemy in the process, then Iraq would have gone quickly, smoothly, and cheaply. Their desire to isolate the US forced us into a different situation which made it worse for everyone.

But Christians (should) believe that the Church is the people of God now, the new Israel (Gal. 3:26; 6:16; He. 12:18-24). Therefore, the reestablishment of Israel has nothing to do with prophecy.

Well, references to Israel in the Old Testament have nothing to do with the Church and the reborn Israel of today is exactly what any Old Testament prophet would have been referring to. (Note, I am Jewish, so I only look at the Old Testament).

People like Right have been switching gears as to who the latest anti-Christ is for 100 years, ever since the adulterer Scofield put Darby’s comments in the notes of his “reference Bible.” Bismark, Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, even Reagan, now Obama. Enough!!!

Akzed on October 17, 2008 at 3:56 PM

That’s true, but it doesn’t diminish the situation of today and the eerily accurate descriptions of the Old Testament. I write this off to a great knowledge of society and the interplays between peoples with known cultural characteristics, but that’s just a secular interpretation.

For the record, I think BHO will mark the death of our Republic and I also think he will force Israel into an untenable position that will end in a major, MAJOR conflict.

progressoverpeace on October 17, 2008 at 4:05 PM

More because they’re our only real ally (save a fledgling Iraq, now) in that part of the world, more than any religious reason, IMO.

Does Turkey count?

Matt. 24:29-30 – He also came at the head of the Roman legions to destroy the City. He’s here now!

Compare Mt. 24:29 to Acts 2:16. Same imagery as used in the OT to describe the ends of Egypt, Babylon, Edom, and more.

The prophecies of return referred to returning from Babylon to Judea under Nehemiah. Paraphrasing, “There will come a time when they will no longer say, ‘As the LORD led Israel out of Egypt,’ but, ‘As the LORD led Israel out of Babylon,’” etc. I forget the chapter and verse, sorry.

Akzed on October 17, 2008 at 4:12 PM

who cares? the church for centuries preached a salvation by works message…buy your indulgences…right.

right4life on October 17, 2008 at 3:41 PM

The works have to be accompanied by faith. By the way, indulgences still exist.

My sister now attends a church that believes totally in salvation by faith. She does some pretty nasty stuff and then says “Well, I prayed to the Lord and he forgave me.” Faith by itself not accompanied by an external expression of that faith (good works) is hollow.

It’s why Catholicism requires things like penance (trying to remedy by work some of the effects of your sins) and reconciliation/confession, where you actively apologize for your sins. It’s why, when Jesus speaks in the parables, it is always in terms of action. It’s why “ye shall know them by their fruits” and “do unto others as thou wouldst have them do unto you” are part of our social fabric.

So, you are welcome to your faith, but do not disparage works.
