Video: Bruce Campbell discusses that certain je ne sais quoi

“If you have it … you don’t need it. If you need it … you don’t have it.” A video of Bruce Campbell’s Old Spice commercial is making the e-mail rounds this morning, purporting to have the star of Brisco County and Army of Darkness criticizing Barack Obama. Here’s my version of the ad remake, and wait for the end to hear what quality Campbell and Old Spice value:
I wish the lantern-jawed Campbell would have turned this into a campaign commercial. It’s pretty effective in a humorous way. I suspect that Campbell would make an excellent spokesman for any political candidate if he chose to get involved.
If you want to see the first mash-up, which is a little clumsy, try this link.

I remember that commercial when it first came out. I laughed. Campbell is an American icon, regardless of politics.

That’s one heck of a nautical painting.

I love Brucie. Met him once, at the book signing for IF CHINS COULD KILL with an ex of mine. Wasn’t expecting to talk to Bruce, but when we were up at the table, he turned to me and asked “so what’s your story?” Needless to say, I was at a loss for words. :)
Is this REALLY a slap at Obama? Or is it just someone using an Old Spice commercial to make a funny slap at Obama?
I’m interested in Brucie’s take.

OK, can we start checking into Bruce Campbell’s past party registrations, tax liens, and dues status with the SAG?

Bruce Campbell is the coolest man from Michigan, EVER.

Bruce Campbell for President? With his chin as his running mate? Or Evil Ashe as his running mate? His boomstick as his running mate?
Shop smart. Shop S-Mart.

Red Mickey Mouse fleece sweatshirt. Nothing attention-getting. :)

I must be clueless. I thought he was talking about Barry’s wealth redistribution plan.

Bruce Campbell, William Shatner, and David Carradine.
The Trinity, which will never die.

I like him on Burn Notice. I remember that commercial now because one of the things in it that always made me laugh was how long that painting in the background is. Funny stuff. Thanks, Ed.

I’m reading his autobiography “If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor”. What a down to earth guy. Ash will always be my hero.

Being an Imus fan, one of my Favorite Bruce Campbell Movies is
Bubba Ho Tep LOL!

Dr Evil on October 17, 2008 at 12:33 PM
Brisco County, JR was one of my favorites. Too bad the commercial wasn’t done as a Brisco/Maverick thing.

“Getting” Bruce Campbell (particularly in Army of Darkness) is up there with loving “Conan” movies and football in my hubby’s litmus test for a good woman.
Ahem — he’s one lucky man.
Y-not on October 17, 2008 at 12:36 PM
Dr Evil —
Since you follow Imus, can you tell me if McCain and/or Palin have been on Imus in the Morning since the convention? It seems like an obvious audience for them, particularly Palin. I rarely see his show (waaaay to early in CA).
Thx.
Y-not on October 17, 2008 at 12:38 PM
I made my wife watch Bubba Ho-tep with me. I still think she carries a grudge.
Oh, and for you Bruce fans out there, the complete “Jack of All Trades” show is on Hulu.com.

It just kept going, didn’t it.
You mean the best cheesy movie ever made.
“Gimme some sugar baby!” A timeless quote.

Given his… palling around with Sam Raimi, one would have to wonder what his politics would be. Or rather, one wouldn’t want to wonder.
..when’s the next season of Burn Notice coming out?

His commentaries with Sam Raimi on the Evil Dead DVD’s are great

I loved Brisco County Jr. Too bad it only lasted like 2-3 years.

I think that was funnier that the Al Smith Dinner clips and both SNL clips…

Don’t forget he was great in Zena too.

Bruce Campbell rules.b I’d like to see him talk circles around Brak.
Geronimo on October 17, 2008 at 2:13 PM
Do you mean Brak from Space Ghost?!
I’d like to see O! do a duet with him. (skip to 00:32 for Brak’s part.) I’m sure O! already has the tights and cape…
Y-not on October 17, 2008 at 2:24 PM
Do you think McCain is steering clear because of the women’s basketball team thing? If so, that seems silly.
What struck me was how negative Imus was about Palin until he saw her convention speech — then he seemed to understand her. I only saw a couple shows this summer (around the time of the convention) — has he maintained his converted enthusiasm for Palin?
Anyway, I agree with you that Imus’ audience represents an important demographic. I think he appeals to a lot of what I call “Western independents” — dems and independents who have a core belief in self-sufficiency and would probably love Palin if they got to know her.
Y-not on October 17, 2008 at 2:29 PM
Yeah, that’s a pretty good show.
Best. Commercial. Ever!

hey, she-b!tch! come get some.
Or has Bruce never met Hillary?
Black Adam on October 17, 2008 at 3:21 PM
I actually met Bruce at the world premier of Bubba Ho-Tep in Las Vegas. I was driving all night from SoCal and my eyes were really bloodshot, so I wore sunglasses when I was waiting in line for the movie. I asked if I could get a picture with him and he replied “sure, if you take off those stupid sunglasses!” hahah! totally Bruce. Then I asked him to sign my limited edition Army of Darkness DVD and he said “yeah, like I’ve never seen one of these before”.. THEN, I pulled out one of his books to sign, and he grabbed it and yelled “what edition is this? FIFTH EDITION! YOU CHEAP BASTARD!”
This was the greatest day of my life.
johnnyboy on October 17, 2008 at 3:32 PM
Bruce Campbell, a true American hero.
Umm, at least he played one in Jack of All Trades. That stuff was real, right?
malclave on October 17, 2008 at 4:07 PM
Brisco County, Jr. was great, but the sci-fi angle was too goofy. It would have made an excellent straight-up western.
.
“Brisco County? Is that where you’re from?”
“No, ma’am, that’s my name.”
.
.
The recent Mummy movies shoulda starred Campbell instead of Fraiser. Would’ve been 10x better. Instead they were big-time cheese fests. (Good Saturday afternoon time-wasters, tho).
artlover on October 17, 2008 at 5:07 PM
Don’t get too worked up, folks. I love Bruce but he supported Clinton and there’s more than a passing chance he’s an Obambi supporter.
That said, should he suddenly go on TV and proclaim how awesome Barry is and how much he hates Palin, get ready for Allah to post on it.
Now, should Bruce actually endorse McCain, that would win the whole election right there.
fiatboomer on October 17, 2008 at 8:58 PM
Something different.
ZK on October 17, 2008 at 9:15 PM
I believe they said they’ve got new episodes hitting in November. it’s a pretty good show…wasn’t sure about the lead at first but he grows on you..but I always look forward to Bruce.
Yeah..it’s a good time to be a tv nut and a gamer…Burn Notice in November and the 24 mini movie. Next week: Far Cry 2 hits, and the week after Fallout 3. Sucks that business is so slow right now I’ll probably be out of a job, but at least I’ll be entertained.
austinnelly on October 17, 2008 at 11:07 PM
I like Burn Notice, but they need to dump Sharon Gless. Very jarring character. Kill her off and bring in some long-lost uncle or something.
Y-not on October 17, 2008 at 11:42 PM
wuh..
But yes, good to hear there shall be more BN. They just seemed to finish the season over here randomly in the middle of it. I don’t know.
Far Cry 2 looks good – seems like STALKER done right, in which case why call it Far Cry? Fallout 3 looks terrific, although after watching a rolling in-game demo.. I do have a few reservations. But I do hope it turns out to be fantastic. Only time will tell..
