Quote of the day

posted at 10:15 pm on October 17, 2008 by Allahpundit

“That Obama’s loss in the general election may have more to do with his performance than his melanin will be treated as something to acknowledge parenthetically at best. And that will be a dismissal of the very lesson Dr. King tried to teach us. Two decades ago, when Jesse Jackson ran for president and Time magazine did a cover with his picture and the headline “The Jackson Factor’, it was just to sell copies: We all knew America wasn’t ready for a black President. Perhaps the reaction was partly due to certain things about Jackson himself, but who knew that not so long later, a black man would be within a hair’s breadth of the White House in part because of his race? Yet, if we truly understand that King’s lesson was that black people are whites’ equals and not eternal poster children, then we must confront the fact that race is not the only reason Obama could lose.

King’s next birthday celebration will be, as it happens, the day before Inauguration Day, and I dread the prospect of black America treating King Day as an opportunity to rue how McCain’s swearing in will show ‘far we have to go’ 40 years after King’s death, rather than celebrating that how close Obama came to the prize showed how magnificently far we have come.”

Honestly, I could care less about the colour of Barack Obama’s skin. It’s the policies that should drive an election, not someone’s skin colour. Or their ability to say hope and change a lot.

Example: I hope that Bobby Jindal runs for President. I think he’s an amazingly intelligent and gifted man. And last I checked, he ain’t white.

Again, I disagree. I believe people are inherently good and want to do the right thing… Welfare basically tells a person they might as well give up because they can never succeed. It all comes back to a foundation… one that the far left is trying to destroy. Keeping religion out of it, take the last 6 of the 10 commandmants and the seven deadly sins and their opposing virtues and you have an excellent foundation on which to build a society. You simply cannot live your life by that foundation and be negative.

Great quote… until you read the first sentence of his piece.

In the increasingly unlikely event that Barack Obama does not become president, Martin Luther King’s dream would reveal itself as tragically unrealized 40 years after his death.

Permit me to edit:

In the increasingly unlikely event that Barack Obama does not become president, Martin Luther King’s dream would reveal itself as tragically unrealized 40 years after his death.

I don’t know this writer. Does he feel the need to add this sentence as some kind of politically correct “cover,” so that he can proceed with the rest of the piece? Who thinks the election seems more in the bag for Obama this week than it was last week? I sure don’t.

This discussion also makes me think that, if Colin Powell really does choose to embarrass himself on MTP and endorse Obama, it may backfire – further racializing the election at just the moment that Obama’s temporary success with the bloc of white men has already begun to swing back to McCain amidst attacks on Joe the Plumber and insults from the likes of Murtha.

My two big memories of that time:

Arriving at the airport and taking the bus out to the highway to get to Ft. Bragg. On the opposite side of the highway was a big sign with 3 hooded horsemen saying “The United Klans of American Welcome You to Fayetteville, North Carolina” and stopping to take a picture of “Iron Mike” on my way out. I guess the sign sort of dates my presence there…. but there were golf courses I enjoyed, including the one owned by Ray Floyds father.

You’re quite welcome! Thanks for the kind words.

I’m more intrigued at this moment though by how Colin the (potential) Traitor fits in with Joe the Plumber and our hopes of defeating Government the Senator.

THE WEEKLY STANDARD pointed out today that much of Obama’s recent rise in the polls could be attributed to his increased standing among white men. If true, that would make first Joe the Plumber boomlet, the sense that BO is in an altercation with JtP, as exacerbated by the leftwing attacks, potentially even more devastating for the O-Team even than it already looks. The exposure of Senator Government’s socialistic tendencies is bad enough, but the outlines of a racialized class war, in the wake of the race-baiting and the shocking insults from Murtha, Lewis, and others can’t help. For a paranoid white guy, the image of Colin Powell betraying his team in order to gang up on “us” with his ethnic brother might not be very helpful.

I’m wondering if we should be rooting for Powell to endorse Obama, if what we really care about is winning.

Lynn Swann went to the same High School as my Dad: Junipero Serra Hight in San Mateo, CA. It is an all-boys Catholic school, although it is still quite liberal compared to when my Dad went there.

Tom Brady, Jim Fregosi, Barry Bonds went there plus Craig Jeffries.

If you can play sports, you’re in even if your Muslim.

It’s pretty much liberal these days. It’s where the beautiful people send their kids even if they are not Catholic.

The simple fact of the matter is that with all his unsavory associations if Barak Obama was not “Black” he would have almost no chance of becoming President, but because he is “Black” he seems to somehow be “inoculated” and have a very good chance. Clearly his being “Black” is not a disadvantage, but rather an advantage.

Not sure I see how the Dohrn/Ayers/Manson admiration connects – unless it’s supposed to raise JtP’s paranoia to even greater heights. Is that what you meant?

None of these things have to be mentioned. McCain went exactly as far as he should have gone defending JtP against attacks. We have a right to be white males, and to ask tough questions of our prospective overlord. Neither is a crime (yet).

The emergence of JtP at just this time, just as Senator Government appeared to have things wrapped up – has that feel of sheer chance that pre-destined and overdetermined moments so often have. They’re like social Freudian slips: JtP is the embodiment of the Forgotten Man. He’s archetypal. Someone like him had to be invented.

McCain doesn’t have to do anything. And if Colin Powell endorses BHO, he should be damned with faint praise for it. If JtP isn’t already primed to read between the lines, no one will be able to make him do it.

They are the loudest one’s in the room, which make them the weakest, they always want to be first in line without doing any of the work, and when we are successful, always try to take credit……..

As of now, we are tolerating them, until the last moment and will use them against themselves……….

I worked two summers for Apple back in the 80′s in their summer hire program. My Mom worked there almost 10 years. I remember working at the Hamilton Parts warehouse in Campbell near SJ and how when the first layoffs hit there were actually a couple women crying.

My Dad would go to the company get togethers with my Mom and it was like a cult religion or something. My Dad, a solid salt of the earth Catholic, would look at the people and not understand why they were making their jobs at Apple a religion. He’d say that they were fools to put so much of their identity and psych rolled into a business that would lay them off as soon as hard times hit.

Sapwolf on October 18, 2008 at 1:00 AM

I have hundreds of photos on my PC. I had to make them all .jpg. then I burned them to a CD and simply put them in the disk drive and imported them into iPhoto.

It took a little time and effort to make sure that they were all formated as.jpg but once imported your Mc will be able to “see” them.

Another way is to get a removable HD with USB and plug it into your Mc with all you photos, and just “drag and drop your .jpg’s into the folder of your choice.

Time consuming but it works.

A few others I’d add to the list, even if not ‘qualified’ in political/executive experience, their common sense would serve them well: A couple of radio talkers; Larry Elder, and Ken Hamblin (if he is still around). I guess what I’m saying is that there’s been more discussion of race and race loyalty than I’d ever have expected even in this PC era. Seems like somebody’s stirrin’ the pot.

innominatus on October 18, 2008 at 12:59 AM

One of the things that’s been running through my mind lately – and I have a feeling that only around 20 – 120 million other Americans also have it running through their minds – is what a really racist campaign against Senator Government would have looked like – something along the lines of what NATIONAL LAMPOON in its heyday might have gotten away with, or like that NEW YORKER cover, but played out in multiple installments and media. It’s almost as though all along there’s been a secret, repressed or unconscious, race-based campaign going on – not anything that I’m saying has been exploited or electorally significant, more like a war being waged in a parallel universe. In our universe, even comparing Barack Obama to Tiger Woods was scandalizing: No one dares to bring up OJ Simpson or Michael Vick except perhaps, as here, by way of negative example.

Sometimes the two universes come into contact, however, and we get explosive comments seemingly based on nothing and unexpected events like JtP. And it might matter.

2nd lawsuit challenges Obama’s citizenship
Man demands state verify birth records or remove senator from ballots

Note: It is incumbent upon ALL Secretaries of State in all of the United States to BOTH accurately verify Voters AND candidates. Barack Hussein Obama has sealed his “Hawaiian” birth records and also records in Kenya.

Failure to verify and certify qualification for ALL candidates in a general election by any Secretary of State may be a cause of action (dereliction of duty) and criminal charges may be filed.

I was a BIG “Black Avenger” fan a few years ago.

He dropped out of public view a good 4/5 years ago. I missed him so I did a search on him a couple of months ago.

He’s totally dropped of the radar. Very bad. I liked that guy. Too much strain, too much BS for him.

Google him for yourself and see.

Great guy.

Almost ALL problems in this country including to slow steady move to socialism can be stemmed to moral failure, especially the destruction of the nuclear family.

The roots of today’s leftism start in the 60′s/70′s when spoiled rich kids took over campuses and Moynihan’s warnings about the black family were first heard. Combine it with leftist universities and leftist, unionized public schools and we are reaping what we sowed.

Also, does Mr. John McWhorter know our hawkdriver? Be safe out there, our dear one, and thank you.

Legend, how right you are, except that I don’t find Mr. Williams that clueless. He’s often so right, and so reasonable. I suffer him way easier than myriad of lefties. And now we know you were a Ranger.

hawkdriver, you better be right.

I’ve mentioned that, as well as some of my other ancient martial history before. No big deal. Just if it was germane to the discussion of the moment. That and a dollar (plus tax) will get me a cheeseburger off the ‘value’ menu at McDonalds.

Check out this story that I found posted at the Draft Palin site.

Born alive baby, killed at abortion clinic, gets proper funeral” – Charlie Butts and Marty Cooper – OneNewsNow – 10/14/2008:

A Florida baby who was born and died in an abortion clinic will finally be buried today in Ft. Lauderdale. Cheryl Sullinger of Operation Rescue explains the African-American baby named Shanice Denise Osbourne was born alive two years ago at an abortion clinic…. Shanice’s mother went to the clinic after experiencing some discomfort, and the clinic staff decided to deliver the baby. When Shanice was born, her mother noticed her gasping for air for nearly five minutes while the clinic staff panicked. Abortionist Belkis Gonzales then put the baby in a biohazard bag and put her on the clinic’s roof “to conceal her body from police.” Allegedly, there was no attempt to save Shanice’s life….
Doctors performed an autopsy that Shanice’s lungs “contained gas bubbles and floated,” which proved she was alive and breathing at birth. Meanwhile, an investigation may soon bear fruit. “We have every confidence there will be criminal charges in this case by the end of next month,” Sullinger contends. She rejoices that the clinic has been closed…. Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue, is thankful Shanice will “finally be laid to rest with the dignity and love she was denied in her short life” and hopes her killers will be brought to justice. He adds that the public is encouraged to attend the funeral in hopes that the African-American community will stop the “exploitation and decimation of their community by predatory abortionists.”

Even Clinton would be winning this one…. virtually any non-Republican could win this one. If Obama is elected it will be because Bush was terrible more than because Barak is the half-white candidate. While there are some voters who will vote for Barak because he deemed to be Afro-American there are plenty who would vote against him for the same reason. This is about the last eight years of incompetence more than Barak’s identity politics.

“THE PROGRESSIVE POPULIST:

New Party member Barack Obama was uncontested for a State Senate seat from Chicago. ”

Aren’t the New Party a small extremist socialist outfit?

If Barry was a member of a far left party, why isn’t this headline news? It seems a bigger story than Joe the whatever.

uptight on October 18, 2008 at 6:09 AM

The New Party stuff has come up on the blogs, but the # of conservative media outlets is very small. The socialists in America rely on the fact that only a few damaging stories will ever be able to get widely disseminated. Although more is always helpful, there should be sufficient damaging info. available about Obama by now for people to make an informed decision as to who he is and his true intentions.

As in your country, an informed citizenry is vital to a nation’s survival as a free land. As we approach the election, more and more commenters rightly point out that the only hope for an Obama defeat lies in the good intentions and common sense of the American people, as the media has tried mightily to obscure the obvious. Many people maintain great faith in Americans in spite of our changing demographics and decades of liberal indoctrination–others waiver. Maybe that difference has to do with where you live. I’m in one of those slowly decaying blue states in the NE where people slowly but inexorably leave–kind of like England. If it wasn’t for immigration from overseas, we’d have less population by now. So from my prospective, things aren’t rosy.

JiangxiDad on October 18, 2008 at 6:40 AM

That some people STILL insist upon saying that a candidate’s race is a factor is no longer an innocent “reminder of how far we still have to go.”

It is a roundabout, ashamed admission of their inability to see beyond their preferred candidate’s race.

Having lost the need to conceal intent, “revolutionary agitation” is the genuine “refrain” of that sad, old song, not the less excusable “liberal guilt.”

Time to call a spade a spade. That’s an idiom, folks.

profitsbeard on October 18, 2008 at 7:16 AM

I am not voting for Obama for the same reason I did not vote for John Kerry. I disagree with him on the issues and I do not trust the guy.

I resent people saying otherwise.

I could just as easily say they are not voting for McCain/Palin because they are sexist and not prepared to see a woman on a national ticket.

They want us in the bedroom and the kitchen. The neanderthals.
