NRSC ad: Who’s to blame?

posted at 2:00 pm on October 17, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

If I had a dime for every time I’ve heard someone say, “There’s enough blame to go around” or “We don’t need to play the blame game,” I could bail out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac myself. Unsupported fingerpointing never helps, but analyzing the policies and actions that led to the Fannie/Freddie collapse is an absolute requirement if we hope to prevent another collapse in the future. That means politicians who supported those bad policies and blocked action that would have corrected the problem will have to face the music — and we’d better make that happen sooner rather than later.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee has an ad out explaining what happened, who kept blowing sunshine up our collective skirt, and who tried to stop the trainwreck from happening:

I’d say that’s an effective ad, especially since it uses the actual clips of leading Democrats to demonstrate their attempts to keep Fannie/Freddie’s market distortions operational. Too bad it runs over 2 minutes; I would like to see this get played on television stations nationwide in the last two weeks of the election.

Too bad it runs over 2 minutes; I would like to see this get played on television stations nationwide in the last two weeks of the election.

The problem is that this is an issue that takes more than a 30 second soundbite to adequately explain.

“… of the failed Bush economic policies.” – Pelosi

I watched that again, and both times I see that clip, gives me the urge to vomit.

And making this ad an even 2 min from the 2:15 won’t be difficult, as you can imagine the pauses being a fraction shorter. I wish they would run this, in the best time slots to make a difference.

Finally, the violin’s are playing in an ad!!

Okay,it good,run it 24/7,and make
even better ones!!!

canopfor on October 17, 2008 at 2:08 PM

I guess it is better than nothing, but even these efforts miss a huge point: most Americans who were invested in the stock market owned Fannie and Freddie stock. Small banks all over America owned $16 billion worth. That stock became worthless with the government takeover. Democrats’ failure to regulate Fannie and Freddie cost Americans billions in lost wealth and dividend income, and billions more in taxes to pay for the losses. Even if Fannie and Freddie were not involved in the overall subprime collaspe, Republicans ought to hang the failure of Fannie and Freddie around Democrats’ necks for years.

Surely the RNC could find a few little old ladies who lost everything when Fannie’s stock went belly up.

rockmom on October 17, 2008 at 2:08 PM

And the NRSC had damn well better be running a shorter version of this 24/7 in North Carolina and New Hampshire until the election.

Make an ad,name the names, make an ad so good that the DNC
has a complete meltdown!

Make it so good, that Pelosi,Dodd and Barney are demanding
that the ad be taken down!

We’ve seen the treatment of Joe the Plumber, now get an ad
that will be as equaly as affective as Joe himself!

Make the ad on FM,FM,so good the MSM are also having a fit,
so good, that they can’t tear themselves from their anchor
chairs!

When that happen’s,the RNC will know it definitely worked!

Tip to the makers of the commercial:
When you put text on the screen have an announcer also reading it.
It is much more effective that way…plus not everyone can read or can read the print on their screen (reason- small screen or too far away from the screen)

While the commerical has good information, it is too slow, too plodding and no punch. And graphic design in so-so.
Plus too many violins.

Doug on October 17, 2008 at 2:18 PM

The best idea of all. Placement will be the key. And there’s no point in advertising this on FOX or MSNBC – you need to reach an audience who can still be swayed. Being right before, but especially AFTER an obama ad would really be great timing.

wise_man on October 17, 2008 at 2:21 PM

Wait. Maybe blame really is a zero-sum game. If the Pubbies have it all, there won’t be any left for the Dims. See how that game is played? Just like the economy game the Dims spin every two years.

John McCain vs Obama

John McCain fought anti-American forces. He was imprisoned, tortured, had most of the bones in his body broken. He suffered for 5 and a half years at the Hanoi Hilton.

Borak Obama makes friends with anti-American’s like William Ayers, Jeremiah Johnson and others.

McCain saw the current financial crisis coming.
Obama mustered all his courage and voted ‘Present’ on the Republican plan to reign in Freddy and Fanny.

Ken Lay of Enron fame cooked the books and caused a financial disaster that impacted only a small percentage of the American people. He is in prison for his part.

Fredrick Reigns and Jamie Gorlich cooked the books (taking $90 million and $75 million respectively in undeserved pay) and caused the current economic meltdown effecting every single American.

Where are they today? Obama hired them as his economic advisors.

Not to change the subject(only temporarily)but did anyone read about the $900,000 plus funds embezzeled by some ACORN leaders relative and ACORN is calling it a “ripple” and they are big enough to withstand it. Who are the people in charge in this country, and how did we produce all these crooks? Who and what are these liberal Democratic groups such as ACORN? All thugs, crooks, amoral people and when did our country start to accept them as some kind of norm? Geez!! what are we becoming? have become? and why does this not reflect on Obama and liberal Dems as it rightly should? We need to take our country back, we have not been vigilant.

“We don’t need to play the blame game”

That’s the MSM spin when a Democrat has been caught red-handed, destroying trillions of dollars in wealth.

Whereas they’re judge, jury and executioner when a Republican is caught chewing gum in class.

This country will never be able to properly govern with a media so far deep into the tank for one party.

2nd lawsuit challenges Obama’s citizenship
Man demands state verify birth records or remove senator from ballots

Note: It is incumbent on ALL Secretaries of State in all of the United States to BOTH accurately verify Voters AND candidates. Barack Hussein Obama has sealed his “Hawaiian” birth records and also records in Kenya.

Failure to verify and certify qualification for ALL candidates in a general election by any Secretary of State may be a cause of action (dereliction of duty) and criminal charges may be filed.

Oh, and if they could squeeze this ad down a little more, add the clip of Charlie Wrangle (on CNN, maybe Larry King) when one person tries to say the republicans warned us – and then he says “I don’t think we should talk about that.” I’m not sure which that video is from, but it would be a good way to end it. Or be part of the end. To say that the democrats started this, it is not part of deregulation as they try to spin this to the republicans and they don’t want this information of their complicity to get out.

The problem is that this is an issue that takes more than a 30 second soundbite to adequately explain.

The problem is that EVERY important issue is beyond addressing in soundbites. And that fact explains why Leftists and Democrats are able to win elections: every position they enunciate is a soundbite…and since they’ve had 40+ years to create a dumbed-down, “Me! Me! Me!” electorate, it works.

This is a very historically significant ad.

Right now the controlling Democrat Congress through Senate and House hearings is trying to write the history behind the current financial crisis. To wit, Chris Dodd and Barney Franks are the committee heads charged in so doing.

It is essential that this ad be played on media outlets and through viral marketing.

Now! Time is of the essence.
