Big Lies: Obama on Ayers, born-alive bill

In presidential debates (and campaigns), candidates usually try to put their policies and records in the best possible light. The spin usually focuses on the positive aspects of these points to the point of hedging the entire truth, but flat-out lies are pretty rare. Last night, Barack Obama treated us to two of them, and not surprisingly, on the two most controversial points of his record.
The first was subtle, and unless you paid attention to the split screen, you may have missed it. John McCain, after being asked about William Ayers, noted that Obama had launched his campaign in Ayers’ living room:
MCCAIN: Well, again, while you were on the board of the Woods Foundation, you and Mr. Ayers, together, you sent $230,000 to ACORN. So — and you launched your political campaign in Mr. Ayers’ living room.
OBAMA: That’s absolutely not true.
MCCAIN: And the facts are facts and records are records.
OBAMA: And that’s not the facts.
Unfortunately for Obama, those are the facts, both about Ayers and ACORN. Obama paid ACORN over $800,000 this summer for GOTV efforts, which Obama now denies, although he did finally admit that he represented ACORN as an attorney in a lending-practices case. Obama did launch his career at a party hosted by Ayers, which is such a matter of public record that I’m frankly surprised he bothered to deny it.
The next big lie came during the debate on abortion. McCain pointed out Obama’s radical positions on the issue, including his repeated opposition to the Illinois version of the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act. Obama responded with a series of lies:
There was a bill that was put forward before the Illinois Senate that said you have to provide lifesaving treatment and that would have helped to undermine Roe v. Wade. The fact is that there was already a law on the books in Illinois that required providing lifesaving treatment, which is why not only myself but pro-choice Republicans and Democrats voted against it.
During that period, the Attorney General reported that the practice of abandoning infants born alive during late-term abortions was not covered by the law. Jill Stanek and others testified to the practice, and the Illinois Senate heard testimony that suggested that as many as 20% of all late-term abortions resulted in a live birth. Obama lied about the circumstances of the bill; the reason it was being proposed was because existing law was ineffective at protecting infants born alive.
And the Illinois Medical Society, the organization of doctors in Illinois, voted against it. Their Hippocratic Oath would have required them to provide care, and there was already a law in the books.
There wasn’t a law on the books, and who would be surprised that the people performing the abortions and leaving the children to die wouldn’t want more oversight to prevent that practice?
You can read my previous posts on the subject:
- Infanticide, revisited
- Yes, we can … elect a guy who votes for infanticide
- There are a lot of things above Obama’s “pay grade”
- Team Obama acknowledges infanticide lie
- Obama camp: He only voted against that born-alive abortion bill because it might actually have an effect
- Obama’s support for infanticide breaks into mainstream media
- Obama: Bill unnecessarily burdened doctors with … babies; Update: AOL Hot Seat poll added
- McCarthy: Obama’s moral failing on infanticide
- Obama’s ad lies about infanticide vote
Obama voted against the bill that would have protected infants born alive even after the “neutrality clause” he demanded was added to protect abortion in Illinois. That is the truth in this case, and Obama lied last night to the American people in an attempt to hide his radical position on abortion.

Liberals will just accept the fact that O said it wasn’t true, chant “we shall overcome,” and all the facts you’ve laid out so well will slide down the memory hole, Ed.
To listen to Obama last night, he’s always been a Reagan conservative…

That’s odd, my morning fishwrap did a fact check on the debate and somehow missed this part. They did “out” McCain’s claim that small business would get a penalty under Obama’s health plan, but must have run out of column space to include these minor slips by the One.

Yes BOe lies all the time, but who outside of the blogosphere cares enough to publish in msm? Its an unfortunate reality at play when a candidate can blatantly lie and his followers blindly follow like zombies.
Did someone suck out their brains?

He also did not repudiate Congressman Lewis over comparing McCain to George Wallace. So much for a post-racial candidacy.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on October 16, 2008 at 8:40 AM
The MSM both liberal and conservative are so fully in the tank for BO that he can say anything he wants and truth doesn’t matter. The only thing that can stop him now is an informed public and nearly everyone that can inform is doing everything not to inform or to spin it as harmless.

Beirut, Beyrouth arrived from google.com on “Meet the Real Sarah Palin: Obama’s Speech Auditory Tape Found” by searching for auditorial obama.

Regardless of how this election turns out; real “change” in this country will never come about until the MainStream Media self-destructs, and is replaced by something that even somewhat resembles honest factual reporting.
It’s an obvious point that bears repeating: if there were ANY semblance of accurate reporting in this country, Obama wouldn’t even be close in the polls. And for that matter, the “polls” would actually be honest.
I really do believe that this election will be a critical turning point for the media’s blatant lying. It will either get worse and prosper, or get worse and meltdown. But get worse, it most definitely will. The media elites are feeling invincible and are getting more reckless than ever before. The tipping point has arrived.

I TiVo’ed the CNN broadcast at midnight to see their “undecided panel” live dial reaction to the abortion topic. When McCain went after Obama on this very obvious human rights issue, the “men” responded very favorably, but the “women” dialed way down. I would really love to know who these people are.
I have a hard time believing there’s a group of non-lib women out there who don’t find the idea of partial birth abortion extremely distasteful and offensive, and Obama’s vote on it disturbing.
LibTired on October 16, 2008 at 8:49 AM
I hate when they do that. Sex is always better when it’s dirty and sinful.

Correction: Nobody who’s going to decide this election cares. The undecideds don’t take principled stands on things like anti-Americanism among Obama supporters or born-alive legislation. If they took principled stands on such things, they would not be undecided.
I hate it that the most wishy-washy and uninformed of voters are the ones who ultimately get to decide every election.

This will never see the light of day. Pro-life 527s should immediately release an ad with footage of his lie. He uses the Saul Alinsky method – Look em in the eye and lie, or say whatever it takes to advance your agenda. Obama and Biden have lied repeatedly throughout the campaign and NO ONE, INCLUDING McCain has called them out. Unbelievable.
marklmail on October 16, 2008 at 8:50 AM
I totally agree- we are at a media tipping point. It’s time to stand against them, and demand better. This is a HUGE opportunity to tell them, “NO”, “No, you won’t pick our president for us and you won’t pick and choose what information you want us to see.” I’m down to only FOX and I’m ready to give them up, they’re starting to lean a little too left in my opinion.
anniekc on October 16, 2008 at 8:51 AM
Obama seems to think lying is useful because the media will cover for him. On this point he’s probably correct.

From dictionary.net:
1. Set apart by solemn religious ceremony; especially, in a good sense, made holy; set apart to religious use; consecrated; not profane or common; as, a sacred place; a sacred day; sacred service.
Does this mean that the messiah of the new religion has stated that sex is in fact a religious ceremony of some type? If you are a BO cultist are you praying to BO or participating in some sort of religious ceremony when you have sex?

He could have hammered Obama on lying about ACORN and then lying about funding it.
He could have mentioned that Obama said knowing Ayers amde him qualified to be a Senator. McCain could have reminded everyone that Ayers trampled a US flag when Obama was 40, not 7.
When he was working with Ayers.
So many opportunties lost.

Elizabetty on October 16, 2008 at 9:12 AM
the reason it was being proposed was because existing law was ineffective at protecting infants born alive.
There wasn’t a law on the books
Well, what is it? Was the existing law ineffective or was there no law?
I think Obama was saying it was not true that he “launched his career” at Ayers’.
And as far as ACORN goes, factcheck does a good job of putting it in perspective:
McCain made some dire claims about a liberal group he said was out to steal the election:
McCain: We need to know the full extent of Sen. Obama’s relationship with ACORN, who is now on the verge of maybe perpetrating one of the greatest frauds in voter history in this country, maybe destroying the fabric of democracy.
It’s true that the voter registration wing of the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now has run into trouble in several states. ACORN employees have been investigated and in some cases indicted for voter registration fraud. Most recently, more than 2,000 registrations in Lake County, Ind., have turned out to be falsified.
But does this constitute “destroying the fabric of democracy”? More like destroying the fabric of work ethic. There’s been no evidence that the ACORN employees who submitted fraudulent forms have been paving the way for illegal voting. Rather, they’re trying to get paid for doing no work.
Dan Satterberg, the Republican prosecuting attorney in King County, Wash., where the first ACORN case was prosecuted, said:
Satterberg: [A] joint federal and state investigation has determined that this
scheme was not intended to permit illegal voting.
Instead, the defendants cheated their employer. … It was hardly a sophisticated plan: The defendants simply realized that making up names was easier than actually canvassing the streets looking for unregistered voters. …
[It] appears that the employees of ACORN were not performing the work that they were being paid for, and to some extent, ACORN is a victim of employee theft.
The $8-an-hour employees were charged with providing false information on a voter registration, and in one case with making a false statement to a public official. ACORN was fined for showing insufficient oversight, but it was not charged with masterminding any kind of fraud.

He is the symbol of a movement and quickly becoming much more. Do you think that he and his followers will just go away if he loses? Do you think that a messiah with racists and terrorists as friends and mentors will fade into obscurity? If we defeat him he will become more powerful then we can imagine. We are entering the age of BO and nothing can stop it from happening. We may be able to alter its course by preventing him from being the president but we will not be able to diminish him in any significant way.

And the kicker is that the “Born Alive Baloney” article on FactCheck doesn’t include that the NRLC found the document which proves Obama put the federal language in the bill, voted against it, lied about the federal language being in it, and then accused NRLC of lying.
They also don’t include the fact that the Herbst-O’Malley agreement of 1993 forbade any IL law enforcement from investigating or prosecuting any of its abortion law dealing with infanticide.
I e-mailed the author of the FactCheck article THREE times with the accurate information, explaining that I’m seeing articles citing her factually inaccurate report. AS of yesterday, she hadn’t changed it. And she hasn’t responded to my e-mails.

Apparently nobody checking for fraud read The New Party’s Frances Fox Piven who in a 1966 article in “The Nation” planned this very fraud that her colleagues then formed ACORN to perform. The published evidence is right there that this was pre-meditated fraud. This is like the mob publishing a book saying what they were going to do and how – but when it happens, folks saying it can’t be proven that they intended it to happen. Unbelievable!

Tom,
This is part of the process of how to get the number of potential votes up for an election, and is intimately tied to the phenomenon of dead people voting. If you want to talk about something that damages the American international reputation, it will be voter fraud.
This kind of thing is really common in third world countries and “elected” dictatorships.
Get a clue man, why do you think the democratic party as a whole has been in oposition to positive identification for voters. ACORN is a central issue to the destruction of democracy.
I grieve for our nation.

The Obamessiah doesn’t lie. Did anyone check the deed for the home? It could be owned by Dohrn, not Ayers, or owned fifty fifty by both of them. So the part of the home Obama was in was actually owned by Dohrn, not Ayers. Or Obama was not IN THE LIVING ROOM. He was only in the kitchen or in the Bedroom, or in the backyard, or upstairs during the meet and greet. Geesh, don’t you know Obamessiah never lies or flip flops, he just changes his mind? And isn’t change what this election is all about? Change change change. Who better exemplifies the change principle than Obamessiah?
I am sorry that McCain keeps undercutting a message that could resonate with the voters. He needed better guidance from real conservatives as to how the issue needed to be played. He could have but failed to link Ayers to the actual education policies supported by the CAC. Would parents want their kids taught the same policies Obama trumpeted? By calling it only an integrity issue rather than a revolutionary issue, McCain vitiates the true danger of Obama, and by calling him a decent guy, well Stalin studied in the seminary, didn’t that make him a decent guy?
So what about those washed up revolutionaries he hung around with, Lenin, Trotsky? Just a difference of principles. I’m sure those revolutionaries were family guys, too.
Otherwise, McCain did better than expected, and Senator Government wore a nasty smirk the entire debate.

So let’s get this straight. These “$8-an-hour employees” all just happen to be selfish and thieving in swing states only. Uh-huh.

Easy–Whoever “signed” them up will fill in the ballot for them.
P.S. I think it was Nevada.

The strategy of creating all these thousands of falsified registrations and then dumping them at the last minute on the various registrars is intended to overwhelm these offices through chaos in order to ensure that at least a portion of the fraudelent voters can make it through on election day.
It’s akin to the “document blizzard” tactic that corporations use when they are asked to produce a certain document that may be incriminating to them.

No Obama wasn’t lying. He did absolutely did not launch his campaign in Mr. Ayer’s living room…
it was the “parlor”

Dude, that’s the most apropriate analagy I’ve seen. The super long primary season became just as excruciating as the riciculous low speed chase, the campaign just as obviously skewed as the court case and the Jury…
Hopefully this will be where the analagy ends in similarity.

The electorate seem to have no problem with lying. They tolerated it on a daily basis from Bill Clinton for eight years. Obama could lie about anything…ANYTHING and it would not change a significant number of votes.

Tom, have you read the article about the Cloward-Piven Plan? Nobody can accurately discuss this issue until they have the basic facts at hand. Again, it’s at
In case you haven’t seen the Cloward-Piven Plan:

Another thing to be considered is that ACORN claims they flagged these obviously fraudulent registrations, but CNN’s Drew (somebody) said that was false. Why isn’t ACORN checking these? Heck, why isn’t Ohio’s SECRETARY OF STATE flagging these to be checked? And then why is ACORN lying about it and the Sec of State going through 3 lawsuits to not have to flag these registrations?
If it was above-board, why the lies and obvious attempts to not have to follow the rule of law safeguarding the integrity of elections?
And why does a reporter who calls on behalf of a democrat to ask what the vote count is after the polls have closed get the response, “How many do you need?”
