Obama camp: The Michelle Obama/API interview is bogus

The e-mails about it are flowing in, but Team Barry tells ABC and Byron York that it’s made up. If The One’s wife was going to get exercised enough about media coverage to start dialing people up herself, would it really be coverage from a web outlet no one’s heard of? Some of her “quotes” sound odd to my ear, too:
My husband and I know that there is no law that will stop him from becoming the president, just because some American white racists are bringing up the issue of my husband’s adoption by His step father.
“American white racists” as opposed to … Canadian black racists? That superfluous specificity feels like something a foreigner might say, not an American born and bred like M.O. who’d take the dynamics of the country’s racial politics for granted. But your mileage may vary.
API’s already updated to say it stands by its story.

Michelle wouldn’t make the kinds of grammatical errors attributed to her in the API (African Press International) article.
They can stand by the conversation all they want. Either they are flimflam’ing us, or they’ve been flimflam’d themselves.

My guess is that it’s fake.
But whoever created it had a pretty good handle on Ms Osama Obama’s thoughts, IMO.
MrScribbler on October 15, 2008 at 12:47 PM
I found this on the Gateway pundit
UPDATE: The African Press International updated their website and are standing by their story:
ADDED HERE BELOW DUE TO HUGE INTEREST ON THE ABOVE STORY. (TIME 16:08 Scandinavian time)
Verification of the story:
We have found it necessary to publish a telephone number that can be used to reach us should anyone doubt the story. We are doing this because of many requests by many people who want to know more abouth the story.
We are able to receive calls tomorrow the 16th of October through to the 18th October. We find it important that our readers get the truth and not be misled in any way. This is a true story and we stand by everyone written.
NB: For verification, we can be reached on 004793299739
To call from the USA, the number is: 011-4793299739.
Well, the Obamedia probably won’t touch this but a few bloggers will be calling Africa tomorrow.
That’s for sure.

This question can be easily resolved if the Obama campaign releases the phone records of all the phones Michelle has used in the last 6 months.
It’s my job to press on questions such as this. /sarc-off>

I bet they cannot wait to be invited to the “innorgeration”.
HawaiiLwyr on October 15, 2008 at 12:51 PM
innoguration?…and that weird random capitalization of some words. She may have called them, but whoever wrote that piece was not fluent in English. I suspect the “American white racist” was not an exact quote, but paraphrased and presented as an exact quote.
txsurveyor on October 15, 2008 at 12:51 PM
Astroturfing to make people look stupid. It said she called them, but look around their site and try to find a phone number. I think it’s bogus as well.
JammieWearingFool on October 15, 2008 at 12:52 PM
So, it’s a He said She said thing. I believe API. Michelle Obama is a racist, I don’t need the API story to tell me that.

Is this a distraction? Is the tape Beckel talked about ready to drop???
Brat on October 15, 2008 at 12:53 PM
Perhaps the interview was translated into some African language and then translated back into English for the story we’re getting? This might explain the awkward verbiage. Anybody follow me?

Awwwww…poor Mrs. Obama is being smeared by the big bad media…
Could this be a tactic to obtain sympathy for her? After all, Sarah has reaped the benefits of the hate thrown her way by the MSM…
ocbrat on October 15, 2008 at 12:55 PM
The API has been around for years. They have archives and you can find references to them by other websites and news stories that also go back a couple of years. They are a collection of African reporters that are based in Norway. And, no, english is not their first language.
Blake on October 15, 2008 at 12:55 PM
It seems reasonable to assume that Corsi’s bombshells have Michelle Obama very upset and even less proud of her country.
It’s feasible that she would make those calls.
sinsing on October 15, 2008 at 12:55 PM
Sure. You can prove this happens very easily by going to babelfisha nd translating an English phrase back and forth. It hardly ever translates back in the original wording.
I’d be interested to know – if this interview actually happened – what her original words were.
AubieJon on October 15, 2008 at 12:57 PM
This is an attempt at distraction from ACORN perpetrated by Oslime-a.
csdeven on October 15, 2008 at 12:57 PM

PimFortuynsGhost on October 15, 2008 at 1:00 PM
I think the story is real. It sounds just like what she would say
ConservativePartyNow on October 15, 2008 at 1:01 PM
Well, it’s looking like it’s real since the outfit is standing by the story. Wonder if they recorded it?
Topsecretk9 on October 15, 2008 at 1:02 PM
The fact that Team Obama feels compelled to deny it indicates that it’s doing what it has to: Stir more rumors and sit in the back of the minds of voters. There’s a segment of people who hear it that won’t believe their denial.
Nice? No. Tough crap? Yes.
amerpundit on October 15, 2008 at 1:03 PM
“American White Racist” is a weird phrase… we in America have been indoctrinated into the idea that only White’s can be Racist, therefore you need no more descriptions for the term…
but in Africa, Kenya just went through some Racial/Ethnic and Tribal riots after the last election (where Barry helped campaign for the loser… who formented the violence…). So White Racist, and especialy American White Racist, would accuratly describe that subgroup from an AFRICAN perspective…
Question is, is this a term that Michele O would use in a conversation…
Romeo13 on October 15, 2008 at 1:03 PM
I don’t either, but I also don’t think she’s that stupid.
Esthier on October 15, 2008 at 1:04 PM
so when is that Whitey tape being leaked?
jp on October 15, 2008 at 1:05 PM
I thought she was to be sedated and kept away from all communications until the end of the election?
Keep talking honey, just keep on talkin’.
Hening on October 15, 2008 at 1:06 PM
I doubt the report is accurate, but she’s not exactly known to say the right things politically. Her husband’s running for president and she says that she hasn’t been proud of America in her adult life?
amerpundit on October 15, 2008 at 1:06 PM
Who’s side do I take on this one to be not racist?
It’s a trap!

Everytime I see a pic of “Aunt Esther”, it reminds me of the “Man Hands” episode of Seinfeld.
ohiorebel on October 15, 2008 at 1:07 PM
I doubt the API is a bunch of right-wingers and I already know Obama is a liar but I don’t know about API, so I’ll give API the benefit of the doubt on this one.
Maxx on October 15, 2008 at 1:13 PM
FAKE! Obviously taken from the movie Never Back Down…
null on October 15, 2008 at 1:13 PM
I can easily see her saying that to an African audience.
marklmail on October 15, 2008 at 1:14 PM
She’s not that foolish.
D2Boston on October 15, 2008 at 1:15 PM
The bigger question is if it is real does it really shock anyone here that she said it. Me not so much.
tee866 on October 15, 2008 at 1:16 PM
Actually, “American, white racists” is superfluous twice over…non-Americans aren’t racist, and non-whites aren’t racist…just to be politically correct.
Spc Steve on October 15, 2008 at 1:17 PM
I certainly don’t disagree, but that’s not half as bad as complaining that the American white racist are trying to bring her down.
She and Barack go for plausible deniability when making these statements. Her excuse then was that she said “really” and many people bought it. She’d have no excuse here. It’s way to blatant.

cyclosarin on October 15, 2008 at 1:20 PM
Here ya go Allah, give them a call.
Maxx on October 15, 2008 at 1:20 PM
I totally believe it and of course the African press is standing by their story. Why would anyone doubt this?
The Obama’s have played the race card all the way through.
Race is how they view the world. Race is how they get what they want in life- and God knows they want a lot. They attend hateful racist churches for heaven’s sake. (Or at least and until it isn’t politcally expedient)
And this is what we are possibly bringing into our sacred White House America. Congratulations. Good job Media.
It’s just a pity the rest of us will have to suffer for your sins.

Odds are if an interview such as this took place.. it would have been recorded via some method.. This would allow for translation given the original interview likely occurred in english…
Personally I could care less real or not.. she comes across as what she is…
theblacksheepwasright on October 15, 2008 at 1:28 PM

Yes, he made it back OK. WND has some stories about it but I don’t have a link handy.
Maxx on October 15, 2008 at 1:28 PM
Maybe the call was made by an associate of Phillip Berg, who is suing to have Obama release his birth certificate. Berg, or someone using his name, has posted a comment in the comment section reiterating his claim. This would be a way to get the issue out in the open again.
Sensible Mom on October 15, 2008 at 1:36 PM
Conservative Punk says that he spoke with Jerome Corsi and that the call was recorded. Audio may be available.

amerpundit on October 15, 2008 at 1:37 PM
If accurate, it could be an October surprise. Of course someone would have to advertise it as McCain won’t.
Valiant on October 15, 2008 at 1:37 PM
Uh, gee, I dunno. I think that would be exactly the kind of media outlet to use. You get vent and do not need to worry about being heard elsewhere. Also, aren’t there some close ties in Africa. Maybe it was supposed to be off the record.
bloggless on October 15, 2008 at 1:37 PM
My gut read: Michelle Obama is bitter, but I don’t think she’s dumb enough to make a call like that to an obscure website no one reads.

Who cares if it is bogus or not? We’ve had weeks of every imaginable lie being told about Palin and now one website posts comments from someone claiming to be Mrs. Obama. Either it is bogus or Mrs. Obama is drinking rubbing alcohol a la Kitty Dukakis. When you drink that stuff you’ll make up all kinds of stuff and find a way to blame it on those crazy white crackers.
grdred944 on October 15, 2008 at 1:41 PM
Possibly, if talking to a foreign media outlet.

Her husband, just last year, went to Kenya and campaigned for a guy who is a Socialist, and had signed an aggreement with Islamists to invoke Sharia Law in Kenya.
Same candidate when he lost who instigated racial Ethnic/tribal violence.
Oh, and by the way, Odinga, Obama’s buddy, ran on a platform of “Change”.
Its the Clinton thing all over again… you keep pushing the envelope because you have gotten away with bad behaviour before… ie… the press giving you a pass.
Romeo13 on October 15, 2008 at 1:46 PM
I hear all this about Obama having all these Afro-centric ties to black radicals and white revolutionaries. If Obama can get the Hip Hop/gangsta rap deadheads to go to work or go to school, maybe he can do some good.
All I know is that in my life experience, inner city blacks are set like the rock of Gibralter in their underachiever status. Welfare, affirmative action, education programs, grants, foodstamps, public housing, etc. never seem to do any good. It boils down to a complete lack of personal responsibility, and maybe they will listen to a guy like Obama if he tells them to step up and take responsibility for themselves.
I would think they would get tired of living like house pets of the government.
saiga on October 15, 2008 at 1:47 PM
Lots of times when people go to a foriegn place, especially multiple visits, they tend to rearrange their own languages sentence structur so that it fits the speech patterns of the foreign nation.

Allah, you might be right and this story could be bogus. However, this is a very serious allegation and must be invetigated. Only through a long and thorough ( 1 week will do) investigation can we arrive at the truth.
Bloggers, radio talk show hosts, etc, should do there best to get this story out there in an attempt to get at the truth, and clear the angelic Michelle good name.

I find it interesting that “IF” this is true, its in response to this African News Outlet covering Berg v Obama.
Its been effectivly stymied by the American Media, with no real coverage at all, even though the Judge HAS NOT RULED on whether to dismiss this case or not.
There is now another case brought forward (can’t find the link) that demands that a states ballot folks make sure that he is qualified…
Getting intersting.

I wish I could go back in time and find the people that brought slaves to the United States. It looks to me like slavery finally has taken the United States down.
Once all the private wealth and economic achievers move offshore, the big slide will begin to pick up speed. When there is no longer enough money left to bankroll the non-working/non contributing pourch dwellers, the lawlesness and violence will accellerate to the point that the only people left here will be the ones on par with the Haiti electorate.
saiga on October 15, 2008 at 2:16 PM
The liberals are hell bent on expanding the illegal alien population, and making poverty striken minority babies a cash crop. The more babies you drop, the bigger the free checks. Where is the incentive to pay attention in school, work hard, and take responsibility for yourself.
The number of hogs at the public trough is about to expand, and the number of responsible achievers will continue to shrink relative to the freeloaders.
The USA has termites that are eating it away.

Thanks…
Romeo13 on October 15, 2008 at 2:30 PM
Califemme, it certainly seems to be gaining legs of its own. I hope the ruling comes down today.
Odinga is a nasty enough piece of business that if he were to try to get a security clearance it would prevent that from happening. There is definitely something wrong with the structure of things if someone who could never be granted a clearance gets a pass to the top job in the US just on the election process.
Marine_Bio on October 15, 2008 at 2:33 PM
No matter what happens with the Michelle Obama story, the REAL important story is the Berg lawsuit.
If Obama can prove his U.S. citizenship – why doesn’t he?
If Obama has nothing to hide – why isn’t he complying with the judge’s request?
Obama could end all speculation by just doing those two things. Yet, he chooses, instead, to not comply.
He is hiding something!
Christinewjc on October 15, 2008 at 2:36 PM
Politicians are always given a pass on Background checks. They are not even investigated, as it could uncover political dirt.
Sad, but true.

Wonder if Michele O was speaking in a Deep Voice on the phone call?
And come to think on it… Barry did talk to a “Plumber” a couple of days ago!!!

Romeo13 on October 15, 2008 at 2:39 PM
Yeah, I know. I was having a cathartic moment, because the double standard between the average person and a politician is really annoying.
It almost seems that acquiring a clearance should be a prerequisite for handling the affairs of this nation.
Marine_Bio on October 15, 2008 at 2:42 PM
You’re welcome!
I had not put two and two together!!! Of course Obama would give Odinga a very nice pass for him and his entourage, I’m sure!! As for Michelle’s “interview”, I think we’ve got the Obamas on the run. It DOES sound like a translation issue with some of Obama’s words, but API is saying they DO have audio, and that they will post it in the coming days.
Happy happy. Joy joy.
