MLB agrees to delay World Series game six so Fox can run Obama ad

That makes three of the big four set to run his half-hour Obamaganza on October 29, with ABC the lone remaining holdout. Do they dare defy a man who might soon be making FCC appointments or will they, er, play ball? Stay strong, Stephanopoulos.
Tapper notes that the NFL moved a night game up 90 minutes last month so that NBC could air McCain’s acceptance speech in full. Even so, your paint-by-numbers exit quotation from an RNC spokesman: “It’s unfortunate that the World Series’ first pitch is being delayed for Obama’s political pitch. Not only is Obama putting politics before principle, he’s putting it before our national pastime.”

That’s why I’m a football fan.
The NFL would never capitulate!
Slublog on October 15, 2008 at 8:50 PM
World=over.
Hannibal Smith on October 15, 2008 at 8:51 PM
There’s a difference between moving an NFL game back to accomodate an acceptance speech and moving back the World Series to accomodate a campaign ad.
amerpundit on October 15, 2008 at 8:51 PM
Let’s hope for a sweep.
What if the White Sox were in the Series?
yo on October 15, 2008 at 8:52 PM
This country has driven off the damn cliff.
Cardiganfox on October 15, 2008 at 8:53 PM
That is just all shades of messed up.
But the O can’t say they aren’t fair and balanced.
tee866 on October 15, 2008 at 8:53 PM
Damn it. What’s next? Apple pie coming with an O stamped in the crust?
Spirit of 1776 on October 15, 2008 at 8:54 PM
*There’ll have to be an asterisk in the stats book.
locomotivebreath1901 on October 15, 2008 at 8:54 PM
There’s not gonna be a game six anyway. Do you guys really think the Dodgers or Phils have a chance against the Rays?
jimmy the notable on October 15, 2008 at 8:55 PM
This should be a pretty hot 4 years.
Nov. 5 the lefties are going to have one giant Ogamsm, followed by an orgy of taxation, conjugal wealth redistribution followed by inevitable morning after when they roll over get a good at the old whore without makeup.
mylegsareswollen on October 15, 2008 at 8:56 PM
Shouldn’t the baseball players salaries be spread around?
profitsbeard on October 15, 2008 at 8:57 PM
I’m glad I looked up and saw your post because I was about to say exactly the same thing, except I was going to call the “campaign ad” Orwellian propaganda.
I wonder if they’re going to give away free posters.
Buy Danish on October 15, 2008 at 8:58 PM
Who says we don’t buy our politicians? Then they’re owned by those who paid for them. We deserve them fully.
Entelechy on October 15, 2008 at 9:00 PM
Look you can put it on tv, that won’t make people watch. Those who tune in won’t be anyone but the choir. Let them spend those $$$$ and make sports fans unhappy at the same time.
Dr Evil on October 15, 2008 at 9:01 PM
That’s so creepy Team Obama will probably steal the idea, only his pies will have half a dozen O’s stamped into them, one for each slice they will hand out to voters on Election Day.
It’s all about getting your piece of the pie, after all!
Buy Danish on October 15, 2008 at 9:02 PM
Irony would be if the Red Sox come back and win the ALCS and then it’s about 25 degrees with snow flurries the night of Game 6, and fans in Fenway (Boston not exactly being a Red State stronghold) have to sit and freeze for an extra 30 minutes while Obama’s campaign ad runs.
jon1979 on October 15, 2008 at 9:07 PM
Do you really think that an acceptance speech and Obamaganza or whatever the hell you call it is the same thing?
RMCS_USN on October 15, 2008 at 9:16 PM
take my money through taxes and then screw me out of the series
custer on October 15, 2008 at 9:44 PM
Eh don’t worry the Rays will win in 5.
McLovin on October 15, 2008 at 9:50 PM
Actually, Fox might have a winner, here. At what other time are Lefties likely to tune in to Fox?
OldEnglish on October 15, 2008 at 9:51 PM
Yeah well Hell will be frozen over too so we’ll all be cold…
McLovin on October 15, 2008 at 9:55 PM

This is WRONG
originalpechanga on October 15, 2008 at 9:58 PM
I can just see it:
What the heck is that freak doing on my TV set? Shut up, you freak, I want to watch the game!
ExUrbanKevin on October 15, 2008 at 10:08 PM
Seriously? Are they kidding MLB can afford a stunt like this? My arse gave up baseball for years after the 94 strike and no world series I wanted to spit on Glavine everytime I saw his face on television being the union rep and all.
Although baseball sucks since we do not have the personalities of the early 90’s those were the times.
Having said that GO Rays!

How long will it take for them to take down the styrofoam greek columns before the game can start?
NightmareOnKStreet on October 15, 2008 at 10:25 PM
Obama better hope there’s no Game 6.
Can you imagine the mood in the local sports bar waiting for the game to begin?

Who’s going to watch Obama’s half hour lovefest?
And why?
If he’s so far ahead, can’t lose and it’s all over, why not save the money for congressional races?
I don’t get it.
fogw on October 15, 2008 at 10:37 PM
I hope someone mistakes his head for a mitt.
NightmareOnKStreet on October 15, 2008 at 10:37 PM
I won’t be watching either “event”….
Even if it goes to game 6 I’ll boycott the game.
FireBlogger on October 15, 2008 at 10:40 PM
Who’s going to watch Obama’s half hour lovefest?
Obama’s got a lot of skeleton’s fighting for room in his closet so he’s just covering all his bases (no pun intended) for a possible late October surprise… Like I said, I hope someone mistakes his head for a Mitt.
NightmareOnKStreet on October 15, 2008 at 10:41 PM
Allah, you’re going to have to suspend postings on this blog during that time period as well. It’s only ‘fair’
Vashta.Nerada on October 15, 2008 at 10:42 PM

hmmm, if the Sox lose I’ll just say I’m boycotting the series because of the Obama ad, instead of my team not being there.

Fine. I’m pissed at Fox and I’m pissed at baseball. I won’t watch either.

By then it will be too late for Bambi. Game over.
ManlyRash on October 15, 2008 at 10:57 PM
I think we need to make it clear to FOX, and NBC, and CBS, but especially FOX that we will not be watching TV during that half hour. As long as ABC does not bow down to Obama I will be tuned into their channel the whole night, even if I am not in the room. It might even be their best ratings night ever.

Of course Fox is going to run his infomercial. Why wouldn’t they after he crapped on them today. Latte drinking, volvo driving blah blah …..freak.
artchick on October 15, 2008 at 11:37 PM
I say just go ahead and throw in a 30 minute infomercial on making big money buying foreclosures and move the game a full hour.

In an Oblabbo administration:
February 8, 2010
“We now interrupt the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl to bring you the following: President and Grand Poobah Obama would like to share with you his daughters’ school pictures.
Now from the White House, from the Testicle-Shaped office, FFirst Mama – Michelle Obama. Get it up!!!! Woo Wooo”
AubieJon on October 16, 2008 at 12:03 AM
He’s going to win. He’s going to take over. Might as well prepare to bow to our overlord for the next four years.
Oh, yes! I watched the debate tonight. Senator Obama was right on spot. His economic plan of raising taxes and spending so much that the national debt is going to rise exponentially really fills me with hope. He’s really going to change things. And, yes, I’m enrolling my child in the Obama Kids Choir tommorow. And all my sons are in the Obama marching crew. I can’t wait until he takes office.
(Whispers) Is the truth squad gone yet?
malan89 on October 16, 2008 at 12:10 AM
You are a stronger man than I.
malan89 on October 16, 2008 at 12:12 AM
It’s overkill. If anything, Obama loses support for this “big brother” type move. Book it.
Sugar Land on October 16, 2008 at 12:14 AM
As a talk show host (Rick Roberts?) says:
I want my country back!
This is sheer insanity.
sadatoni on October 16, 2008 at 12:14 AM
Isn’t this the same FOX network that the Democrats refused to have any of their Primary debates on?? Shame on FOX !!
golfer39 on October 16, 2008 at 12:14 AM
The difference Allah is that Bambi gets his ad on the air with the World Series, which is equivalent to the Super Bowl popularlity in football.
Travis1 on October 16, 2008 at 12:15 AM
Dude,..That’s %#$% up!!!
christene on October 16, 2008 at 12:33 AM
I won’t be watching.
Connie on October 16, 2008 at 12:41 AM
Bravo to Fox for helping Obama piss off baseball fans (both of them). Congratulations to ABC for having the most watched program in history on October 29.
Ronnie on October 16, 2008 at 1:26 AM
Obama is going to rank up there with the Head-On commercials. By November 4, 300,000,000 people are going to vote McCain just so he’ll go away.
Ronnie on October 16, 2008 at 1:27 AM
I would imagine the ad would be dull and predictable. Much like McCain’s would be if he had the money. The debates and campaigns are both dull and predictable.
lexhamfox on October 16, 2008 at 1:33 AM
The Phillies will prevent this from being necessary.
profitsbeard on October 16, 2008 at 1:49 AM
This from the same man, Bud Selig, that allowed the All-Star game to end in a tie…
btw, Fox network is different from Fox News channel
Gohawgs on October 16, 2008 at 2:10 AM
Won’t affect my vote.
Ugly on October 16, 2008 at 2:11 AM
I guess we shouldn’t be hatin’ on BHO for buying all these 1/2 hour campaign ads. After all, Senator Government is just spreading the wealth. The wealth he got from “Doodad Pro” and the Gaza Strip brothers, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, ad nauseam…
Gohawgs on October 16, 2008 at 2:29 AM
OMG, that would so rock!
misslizzi on October 16, 2008 at 4:48 AM
Hey, maybe BHO will bring his styrofoam columns out of retirement for a cameo. Unless, of course, they are needed for a Hercules movie or a sequel of 300.
Gohawgs on October 16, 2008 at 5:01 AM
Thanks Fox and MLB.
Whores.
AZCoyote on October 16, 2008 at 6:10 AM
Not a chance against the Rays–Philly’s going to experience the Tampa Bay pain train come October 22nd.
m064404 on October 16, 2008 at 6:38 AM
If that is the case, I know what I WON’T be doing for a 1/2 hour on that particular night.
pilamaye on October 16, 2008 at 6:53 AM
I think fans will resent this. Most regular normal people are sick and tired of all the politics.
Terrye on October 16, 2008 at 7:05 AM
I wont be watching and my guess is the only ones that watch will be liberals.
becki51758 on October 16, 2008 at 7:43 AM
WOW. This gives McCain a chance to document Obama’s falsehoods and hammer them with his own show. IF he chooses to do so.
marklmail on October 16, 2008 at 8:20 AM
The United Socialist States of America’s Pastime.
marklmail on October 16, 2008 at 8:24 AM
So let me get this straight.
The NFL delays a game 90-minutes for a CONVENTION SPEECH and that is equivalent to Obama buying airtime on October 29th, for exactly what again?
Its time for Bud Selig to resign. He can go work for his brother, Bill Gates. Anyone ever held up a picture of the 2 men side by side? The resemblance is uncanny.
TheHat on October 16, 2008 at 8:25 AM
MLB made the correct decision. I mean who wants to miss any part of the World Series for a political speech…um I mean show. Cudo’s to MLB for this heads up play.
kanda on October 16, 2008 at 8:28 AM
I’m pissed. Obama has bought and paid for this election. Thug politics at their best. And I doubt if most of America is smart enough to understand how they’ve been manipulated. (and purshased) Too bad there will be no returns. What kind of an assho*e permitted this baseball thing?
anniekc on October 16, 2008 at 8:46 AM
I’m not watching either then.
I have no interest in anything Obama has to say. He lied blatantly last night about the “negative ads”, why should I be interested in anything he has to say?
NoDonkey on October 16, 2008 at 9:34 AM
So, now The One is interfering with the World Series? Isn’t that like, un-American?
CP on October 16, 2008 at 9:56 AM
Oh, sure Fox Entertainment (that’s not Fox News), cancel Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles for baseball but do what The One wants. I hope a Scottish urinal kills Bud Selig at the stadium on Obama Game Day.
andycanuck on October 16, 2008 at 10:11 AM
I’m boycotting Fox.
Maybe I’ll watch Hannity once in a while though.

fourstringfuror on October 16, 2008 at 10:31 AM
MEMO to FOX,What the h#ll are you doing,
bias is one thing, bending over backwards
and accomadating the “political adversary”
is another!
canopfor on October 16, 2008 at 10:38 AM
The only way to watch a baseball game is from the stands, so I don’t watch baseball on TV. The only way to watch Obamas infomercial is from a padded cell. Don’t have padded cell in house.
Flint Stone on October 16, 2008 at 11:02 AM
Why this is a topic for discussion is beyond me. The NFL did accomodate McCain’s acceptance speech, Obama is paying about a mil a net for this. I have no problem with Fox doing this. And yes, it is Fox, not MLB that is doing this. They dictate to MLB what the schedule will be since they pay their bills.
grdred944 on October 16, 2008 at 11:23 AM
…and if you act within the next 10 minutes, we will throw in a 1 hour game delay during the world seties 7th inning streatch game 1.
