Tonight we have the final presidential debate for the 2008 cycle, and if you’re in the Twin Cities area, we have some party ready for you! AM1280 The Patriot will host a debate party at Trocadero’s in Minneapolis tonight. The Northern Alliance Radio Network will emcee an evening of fun and politics, including my radio partner Mitch Berg, Power Line, SCSU Scholars, and Fraters Libertas. We’ll have free appetizers and a cash bar. The debate goes from 8pm CST to 9:30pm CST and doors will open around 7:30pm. Admission is free – but please RSVP at the handy AM1280 RSVP Page so we can plan accordingly.
You won’t miss anything at Hot Air, either, if you’re not able to make it to the party. We’ll have a live chat room running during the debate, with Jazz Shaw and Lady Logician moderating a cast of thousands — literally! Since the live streaming has interfered with the operation of the blog for some Hot Air readers, we’ll skip that and stick with the chat room.
I’ll also make a post-debate appearance on the Hugh Hewitt show at 10:30 CT to discuss the night’s events and their implication for the election. And yes, I shamelessly recycled the first two paragraphs of this post from my pre-debate analysis. I’m all about efficiency, baby!

I listened on the radio, so I’ll give you that perspective.
McCain did very well, Obama did well.
McCain came across as a steady conservative. Obama came across as not as liberal as some like to portray him – given his scant record it is really impossible to know how far left he will lean.
Either Obama will win in a lamdslide or it will be a late night on Nov. 4. I fear the former but hope for the latter.

No, that would be the community organziers. Christians just give food, shelter, love, and second chances. Community organizers give the gift that keeps on giving: voter fraud.

as am I. but i still despise Huck and while i’m against gay marriage 1,000%, i don’t want a freaking constitutional amendment for it. i’m pro life all the way, but you catch more flies with honey than vinegar and better to start with partial birth or notifications and work your way from there. i think some of the problem with the “evangelical” republican stereotype (and it is just a label — cmon, what christian ISNT an evangelizer), is that its the James Dobson mantra…. it’s the moral overseer that sits around and waits until someone screws up, then makes a God-given pronouncement on what is right and what is not. Falwell’s Tinky-winky as gay (yes, distorted, but still) is a great example.
Now take Huck. Throw in the James Dobson factor of Huck-a-sham (former head of the arkansas baptist assocation, lifelong preacher) and combine that with his disastrous economic “fairness” policies…. its social conservatism on steroids.
It’s not fair, but too often those labels make me think of a gay-bashing ALAN KEYES instead of some middle-of-the-road Methodist or S. Baptist.

First, I agree with Matt Helm. Thanks, Matt.
Second, I agree with you about Huckabee. I too was against him in the primary. But interestingly, he was terrific on Fox opposing the bailout, while both Mitt and McCain have defended it.
By the way, I was for Fred, as were most of my Southern Baptist friends.

LA Mayor Tom Bradley–a Black–polled higher than he actually got in his election. The theory is that people lie & tell pollsters they’ll vote for him, fearing accusations of racism if they say they won’t.
jgapinoy on October 16, 2008 at 12:06 AM
Named after Tom Bradley, who lost the race for Gov of California despite a strong lead in the polls. Previously called the Wilder effect after Doug Wilder who narrowly won Gov of Virginia despite a large lead. And soon to be renamed the Obama effect if he actually ends up losing.

Mojave Mark on October 16, 2008 at 12:07 AM
Based on a California Election with a Black Candidate that everyone polled well in his favor and then on election day, he came up very short. The idea they surmised was that people were reluctant to say they weren’t going to vote for the black candidate, but when they got in the booth, they were reluctant to actually vote for him.

Even though I think McCain won, McCain should have sealed it by coming out on stage with bleached red hair and looked Obama in the eye and said, “I’m so angry and hot at what has been going on that my hair has turned red. Instant victory for McCain. Even liberals like weird offbeat stuff like that.

I was a Mitt supporter, not because of his religious association or mine but because of Mitt Romney’s abilities as an executive.
I was frustrated as anyone at the attacks on Romney as to him being Mormon, but I get the same sort of attacks from the same sort of attackers because I’m Catholic, so, it really is a case of he/she who does the attacking.

Tonight Obama PROVED he has no gallantry, not one shred of decency. Obama is unwilling and incapable of owning up to his lies or even to denounce falsehoods from his own campaign supporters leveled unjustly and viciously against McCain and against Palin.
The east coast elitists are too full of themselves (chicken shit) fearing reprisals from Obama’s marauders. So watch the harpies earn their place in that special hell reserved for women who won’t support other womens successful efforts. And watch the metrosexuals from their private box in the peanut gallery wag their fingers according to the whim of the MSM.
CONTRAST WITH MR. ALL AMERICAN, JOE THE PLUMBER WHO GETS IT. The vote isn’t going COD to Obama the liar, cheat and thief.
Lied about the recorded “fine” now erased into “no fine” assessment on those who do not purchase health insurance. He also lied about what he did (NOT) say to Joe The Plumber. He also lied about McCain’s record in debate tonight. There wasn’t a turn that Obama did not fill with another lie.
Obama and his affiliate ACORN supporters are cheats and frauds trying to steal the election, having already drive our economy into ruin.
Obama is a thief as he takes campaign contributions illegally not only from international sources, but from private citizens’ bank accounts via the internet without consent of the owner.
Obama must be prosecuted.

Can someone explain why the Bradley Effect is supposedly racist? Assuming it’s even real, wouldn’t the Bradley Effect tend to show racial sensitivity, not racism? It does not demonstrate, as some media allege, that if the black candidate were white he would have garnered the vote of the Bradley Effect voter. All it proves is that in America people have become justifiably fearful of being deemed a racist. So, some have decided it’s easier to lie to pollsters than to take the chance of being accused of racism.

IMHO, polls suck for the most part. We wonks agonize over them but they suck. I think the polls being pushed by the media have a purpose to drive the electorate and when it doesn’t go like their pollsters assert, its at least a fickle general public, at the most it’s raaacccism.
But it’s never their flawed poll. Ass-clowns!

Obama said “all we have to do is retool America and get all those factories to work again.”
If retooling were so damn easy and inexpensive to accomplish, no factory would have ever closed. If only retooling our manufacturing industry did not first require a huge investment, Obama might have a point.

People are suggesting using the “Bob the Builder” theme song as a guide:

Well, yes and no. I agree about Romney’s past record as to him not being a Sterling Conservative but you’ve also just reiterated a slanted view that many evangelicals, in my experience, used to continually “just reject” Romney without any willingness or effort to realize your own bias.
The Massachusetts public healthcare thing, Romney explained and explained well as to how that developed and why: he was a lone Republican Governor in a very liberal, Democrat-state-legislature-dominated state (same thing with Schwarzenegger in California), so, what was enabled in MA was THE BEST of what any Conservative (or anyone else not Liberal) might accomplish there, and certainly wasn’t an example of a national experience (when there would be more Conservative voters influencing outcomes, programs, and such). And Romney’s also criticized what the developments came to be as to MA’s healthcare problems…so he was at least realistic there AND he accomplished far “more” move to the Center in an exceptionally Liberal state (so that says quite a bit about him when you consider the environment and challenges involved).
His stance on abortion as an individual was modified from “tolerant of” to “unsupportive of” on ethical, religious basis. I ADMIRED his story and that he’d relate it — how he changed based upon growing maturity and wisdom as to the issues involved.
And he also explained that as Governor of that very Liberal state, he still remained as an individual not supportive of abortion, not in agreement with it, but as a legislator, enabling of it in office, UP TO A POINT, while over time growing to realize his previous “tolerance” was actually indifference and he changed.
Again, I admire his story and experience and am grateful that he as others can and do change for the far better on this serious issue. Once “pro choice” changing to “pro life” is a change worth congratulating!
I read dreadful negations of Romney on the internet by “evangelicals” so they really are not to be excused in that issue — it was ugly and revealed an ugly humanism present that I was surprised to see.
I don’t agree with the theology of Mormonism, but, so, I am not a Mormon. But I think that deriding anyone who declares their faith in Christ and salvation through Christ, who sincerely means that, is wrong.

You guys knocking on Fox are retarted. Fox would be stupid to fight a hopeless battle like pushing Mccain. We were sold out guys.
-We were given a mark for a candidate that from day one was a weak horse and option C or D at best.
-Mccain refused to fight but instead had some queens rules in play against a street fighter who didn’t even have a cup. Hell had his freekin brain showing in the back of his head just open.
-Bush f*ckin made the largest lunge to SOCIALIZATION in US history by nationalizing the 1st & 2nd Largest US mortgage holders, the largest US Insurance company, working on the largest US banks, and whispering about adding the US auto industry. Chavez, Amajab, and socialist the world over are pointing to this as proof that Socialism is the way to go.
-Mccain instead of showing his difference with Bush (he so wants to prove this right?), and remind US of his economic conservative values to boot by fighting this 700BILLION bailout tooth and nail. NO he freekin signed on to it? Imagine that 1st debate if Obama had to try to justify a 700BILLION bail out of wallstreet fat cats with nationalization of our economic foundation? NOT TO MENTION THE PORK PORK PORK 30 million for wooden arrows? (wasn’t Mccain going to veto every pork bill?WTF punk a*s?)
-2nd Debate Mccain shows up and does what nothing but shows up. No challenging of Obama even after Obama had called him out and was literally STARING Mccain down.
-3rd debate Mccain finally makes a half hearted attempt to challenge Obama.
Piss poor and at best half hearted.
(Imagine if when the opportunity arose Mccain instead of saying “I don’t care about a washed up terrorist” and stopping he instead said “I don’t care about Obama hanging out with one washed up terrorist my concern is simply the pattern… Obama associated with Ayers for 10+ years but when confronted said he didn’t know Ayers was a un-repentant terrorist, Obama went to a hate filled church for 25+ years but when confronted said he never knew, Obama worked with even gave 800 million to Acorn who is charged with voter fraud but when confronted he never knew, Obama palled with and bought his home at a 300k discount from Rezco a indited corrupt-fraudulent-soon-to-be-in-jail-criminal, but when confronted he never knew. My problem my friends is not one washed up terrorist but why is so many anti-Americans around Obama, My question of Obama is (look right at him) are you really that naivete or is my fear correct?
Guys I think Dole could have beaten Obama. Obama has so much ammo that he cannot even dispute that only a Mccain (above the politics, don’t question their patriotism) Mccain could lose this f*ckin election.
We shouldn’t be beating on Fox for admitting the writing on the wall. We need to prepare look for the rock ribs Pence, Shadagg, etc.. that will/could guide US out of the wilderness. Fox is going to get a full broadside under a Dem congress, senate, executive. We will be very lucky if Fox can hold, talk radio is going to be the canary in the cave.
Obama is not Kerry this guy is the real deal. Obama is not embarrassed of his Socialist ideals he is proud. Obama with a Democratic congress and senate is going to run pure Nitro into US engine and turn right into the wall. -Regulation (we exhale carbon dioxide to give you a clue to the unlimited options of carbon regulation)
-Taxes (Hey government don’t cut back they just take a raise)
-World welfare (remember poverty=terrorism argument?)
-defense gutting (who needs baby killers anyway or lets say it PC we need to give more welfare and buy more votes)
-helplessly watching allies get plowed in during useless negotiations (Georgia, Iraq, Stans, Ukraine, Lebanon, Israel, Baltics, Tiawan, Dijbuti, Gulf States)
- etc……
It is going to be a VERY rough ride. We should start planning on how to try to cut the pain short by 2010 then full conquest by 2012. We need to learn that allowing weak willed, corrupt, immoral amongst our rank while may have some short term benefit it is a long term losing strategy.

I don’t take issue with other Christians, but I do note the malignment of Romney on religious terms, mostly. Who can say who was behind the keyboard, maybe just more “astroturfers” (to anyone who doesn’t get that — it’s a term used by ACE on Ace of Spades site, as to people who show up and say, “I’m a Christian but I’m voting for Obama because…” and then they deploy the rationalizations that contradict Christian theology, thus being “astroturfers”).
I’ve witnessed more than a few Obama campaigners who pose as anything that they think will convince others to “go the Obama way.”

Actually, astroturfers is a term that applies to those attempting to give the appearance of a grass roots movement where none really exists. I think Axelrod’s company uses it to go into blogs to plant seeds for an opposing view without appearing to actually be the opposing view. Fake grass roots effort… hence… astroturf.

I fundamentally agree with what you said, but it does not negate anything I said. I admire his move to the right on abortion. And I agree Romney made the healthcare thing better, but he made the mistake of defending it as a conservative plan. I heard him do it over and over again. During the primary he touted it as a win, when in reality it was just another government boondoggle. His record on guns was not good, yet he made stupid comments about being a hunter when it was clearly untrue. It made him seem plastic. The gun issue alone was big in the South.
But look, I don’t want to fight all of the primary fights all over again. I had legitimate philosophical reasons for opposing him and my being a Southern Baptist had nothing to do with it.

Senator government lost the debate tonight with his own mouth. Everytime the issue came up senator government was for more government higher taxes, more spending. He couldn’t help himself. I think I heard the word invest 30 times. People do not want higher taxes and more government. They want less government and lower taxes.
Obama wanted to make it a rich vs poor/middle class issue.
McCain made it a government vs we the people issue.
Senator government lost it tonight and it had nothing to do with McCain.

Thanks. More evidence that Obama is a doofus. Such a creep.
That quote from Obama needs to be accompanied by a very tiny violin…

I will be happy to be wrong but Mccain is a pitiful candidate. Reagan, Bush Sr., Dole (maybe), Bush, would have eaten Obama on his associations.
Obama doesn’t just have one bad apple in his cart the list just keeps growing.
-Ayers=unrepentant terrorist WHO ACTUALLY KILLED AMERICANS
-Wright=Videos of “damm America” and very open anti-americanism.
-Rezco=under arrest corrupt business man Obama both funneled government HUD money to and bought his home from at a discount.
-How many campain people lost to anti-semitism and other hatred
This guy is a freekin joke. If we had a candidate that believed there were radicals on the other side and not just “well meaning good family people I happen to disagree with (ohh) fundamentally” on the other side we would have swept the floor.
Dole would have swept the floor.

If there was a Big Bang, there had to be a Big Banger. Either that, or matter is eternal…which is impossible.
