Debate: Live chat and open thread

Tonight we have the final presidential debate for the 2008 cycle, and if you’re in the Twin Cities area, we have some party ready for you! AM1280 The Patriot will host a debate party at Trocadero’s in Minneapolis tonight. The Northern Alliance Radio Network will emcee an evening of fun and politics, including my radio partner Mitch Berg, Power Line, SCSU Scholars, and Fraters Libertas. We’ll have free appetizers and a cash bar. The debate goes from 8pm CST to 9:30pm CST and doors will open around 7:30pm. Admission is free – but please RSVP at the handy AM1280 RSVP Page so we can plan accordingly.
You won’t miss anything at Hot Air, either, if you’re not able to make it to the party. We’ll have a live chat room running during the debate, with Jazz Shaw and Lady Logician moderating a cast of thousands — literally! Since the live streaming has interfered with the operation of the blog for some Hot Air readers, we’ll skip that and stick with the chat room.
I’ll also make a post-debate appearance on the Hugh Hewitt show at 10:30 CT to discuss the night’s events and their implication for the election. And yes, I shamelessly recycled the first two paragraphs of this post from my pre-debate analysis. I’m all about efficiency, baby!

Wouldn’t that by a hoot if she had a McCain/Palin shirt on? What a killer October surprise that would be!

O’reilly sucks. The brass he has to screw with Karl Rove.
anniekc on October 15, 2008 at 8:11 PM
Rove has to talk fast, once O’Mouthy cuts in its all over…honestly, I don’t know how people keep coming on the show…Mary Katherine Ham seems barely able to conceal her contempt for him at times…
or is it just me?
More beer.

Armageddon: O’Reilly gets it and Rove doesn’t….uhg! Rove has his ear and so we are going to get pablum….uhg!

So she can unleash her deadly cackle.

Is Fox just stuck with Dick Morris or are there people who really like to hear what he has to say? Everytime, and I mean EVERYTIME, I turn on FOX, there’s Dick Morris hawking his book, trashing the Clintons.

Manly Rash’s wife said she wanted to go someplace she had never been before, so he took her to the kitchen.

I would promise to be good and never say ugly things about Obama again, (yeah, right) if I could see Hillary in a McCain/Palin shirt in the audience! Good call.
anniekc on October 15, 2008 at 8:14 PM
Where can I find a live video stream of the debate? I don’t want to google and accidentally watch via a Socialist website like the Huffington Post…
Was sad to see HotAir is doing the streaming chat instead.
I don’t own a TV.

Why you like Morris?
anniekc on October 15, 2008 at 8:15 PM
anniekc…
OMG…you’re right; there he is again…
If he’s such a great adviser, and if he hates the Clintons so much, why isn’t he working for McCain?
uncivilized on October 15, 2008 at 8:15 PM
My husband and I are from the East Coast, but we have lived all over – currently California. Our theory is that if Obama wins, he will spend so much time trying to beat the red states black and blue (mostly blue) that we won’t feel much of a difference in our lives here in safely blue California, at least initially. I wouldn’t want to be in the Bible belt if Obama wins.
Longer term, we’re thinking of returning to Texas, although I thought Idaho looked interesting.
In terms of foreign countries, if U.S. becomes a socialist country anyway, we might try to move to Vancouver, B.C. At least they are polite socialists.
Y-not on October 15, 2008 at 8:16 PM
I think McCain needs to win because…losing sucks.
tomas on October 15, 2008 at 8:16 PM
He’s sharp…he understands the real travesty of the Obama/Ayers alliance…I haven’t seen anybody else hammering that, but I don’t watch much.

Because he’s right more than he’s wrong. I McCain follows Morris’ advice he just gave the election would be a dead heat tomorrow morning.
TheBigOldDog on October 15, 2008 at 8:18 PM
You know, Morris is assuming that the vast debate audience knows all the characters in the Obama capers. They don’t.
anniekc on October 15, 2008 at 8:18 PM
If McCain is too aggressive, MSM whines he is too mean.
If McCain is not aggressive, MSM whines that he has no passion.
Speedwagon82 on October 15, 2008 at 8:19 PM
Morris got it all right!! McCain needs to reiterate everything Morris said about the associations and corruption.
jencab on October 15, 2008 at 8:19 PM
That’s why McCain has to mention them tonight and educate the audience.

As an example- I tried to explain the Ayers connection to my pro-choice sister, (in the most simplistic terms) She accused me of being a fool for believing the blog shit that’s being put out by the republicans. This is from an educated 45 year old.
anniekc on October 15, 2008 at 8:22 PM
Exactly. Problem is he’s listening to Rove and losing. Maybe Rove secretly hates McCain or something…
TheBigOldDog on October 15, 2008 at 8:22 PM
Whic is why people like her need to hear it directly from McCain’s own mouth. Then you can’t calim it’s coming from some nutty blogger.

Just saw OReilly w/ Dick Morris, Morris is right on. He said that at this point, McCain has lost the election, just go in there an give it all to him, Ayers, Wright, Rezko, raising taxes, socialism, etc, etc, etc…
I can only hope and pray that he does. Otherwise, I fear he’s a goner. And, he’ll have drug down Palin with him.
reshas1 on October 15, 2008 at 8:23 PM
You probably are pretty well insulated in California – here in North Carolina, it’s starting to look like the inmates are gonna completely take over the asylum; Hagan is ahead of Dole, Perdue is ahead of McCrory. I don’t know what the people in this state are thinking. The Democrat governor is a complete boob – his wife just got a HUUUUUUGE (88 percent) pay raise from the University of North Carolina system – the Democrat former speaker of the state House of Reps is a convicted felon…

lavell12 on October 15, 2008 at 8:26 PM

I cast my absentee ballot for NC–from what my dad tells me, it’s the usual state-wide democratic machine at work in NC. I just hope it doesn’t carry over to the Presidential campaign.
m064404 on October 15, 2008 at 8:28 PM
I think it’s all those intellectual elites clustered around your many college towns? Also, you guys have had a huge influx of hispanics. Both these groups skew Democrat.
mrsmwp on October 15, 2008 at 8:28 PM
As Mark Levin said earlier on his show, there will be no “knock out punches” thrown tonight and he felt that John McCain would do an “adequate job” but the media would spin it to Obama’s win anyhow. Also, Levin said to count how many times Obama says “middle class” tonight since it is a Saul Alinsky tactic to make the middle class feel disenfranchised. I will try to keep up with the count.
carbon_footprint on October 15, 2008 at 8:28 PM
Well, besides denial, there is the pure ignorance factor.
jewells45 on October 15, 2008 at 8:29 PM
…which is why McCain needs to go out there tonight and spell it out for Americans, clearly and unapologetically.
McCain needs to ignore the MSM at this point. Where has the MSM ever gotten him?
ErinF on October 15, 2008 at 8:30 PM
I’m thinking Obama’s “wealth reditribution” policy will get her attention if anything will. She’s always been a bit stingy….
anniekc on October 15, 2008 at 8:30 PM
annie:
The thing is even if McCain makes an issue of Ayers, the kind of people you are talking about won’t believe it. If the media did their job and reported on stuff like this like say they did with Foley and the IMs then it would not need to come from McCain or any blogger.

ErinF on October 15, 2008 at 8:37 PM
I should clarify that I’m in Southern California and a bit inland (but still LA county), so the baseline level of nuttiness is not that bad, really, but we have the California blue bubble to protect us from Obama’s shock troops (should he win). I can’t even visit San Francisco without hyperventilating.
That’s too bad about N.C. I didn’t realize Dole was behind. Is she a good senator? I actually liked Bob Dole (I realize that may be a minority opinion here at HA) but couldn’t tell about Elizabeth.

Yep, if they did their jobs things would be a lot different.
Speaking of doing their jobs, I have been watching some of these financial people cry about the government and the economy, and I wondered…if they are such experts on the economy, why didn’t they do something about all this themselves?
This time last year the DOW hit a record high…and all these bad loans were out there then. The housing bubble had already started to burst.
They can blame the government, Bush, whoever, but somehow I would have thought a bunch of smart people who make their living forcasting economic growth and decline etc might have seen something this big coming.
