Debate: Live chat and open thread

Tonight we have the final presidential debate for the 2008 cycle, and if you’re in the Twin Cities area, we have some party ready for you!  AM1280 The Patriot will host a debate party at Trocadero’s in Minneapolis tonight.  The Northern Alliance Radio Network will emcee an evening of fun and politics, including my radio partner Mitch Berg, Power Line, SCSU Scholars, and Fraters Libertas.  We’ll have free appetizers and a cash bar. The debate goes from 8pm CST to 9:30pm CST and doors will open around 7:30pm. Admission is free – but please RSVP at the handy AM1280 RSVP Page so we can plan accordingly.

You won’t miss anything at Hot Air, either, if you’re not able to make it to the party.  We’ll have a live chat room running during the debate, with Jazz Shaw and Lady Logician moderating a cast of thousands — literally!  Since the live streaming has interfered with the operation of the blog for some Hot Air readers, we’ll skip that and stick with the chat room.

I’ll also make a post-debate appearance on the Hugh Hewitt show at 10:30 CT to discuss the night’s events and their implication for the election. And yes, I shamelessly recycled the first two paragraphs of this post from my pre-debate analysis.  I’m all about efficiency, baby!

Bull farking shit.

Where does Fox get these people???

Cr4sh Dummy on October 15, 2008 at 10:41 PM

I can’t believe the Fox crew. Maybe they want to be the only journalists really working the next 4 years.

DrSteve on October 15, 2008 at 10:41 PM

How about that… Fox pundits seem to give Obama the win and the Luntz group of Obama supporters independents think Obama won. Why am I not surprised….

ABC defending Obama assertion that Obama political career not launched from Ayers living room – they say it was a Ramada Inn.

ABC also spinning that $800K was not given to ACORN, but a group associated with ACORN.

What debate did these people watch??? I thought mcCain started off weak and finished strong.

YellowDawg on October 15, 2008 at 10:44 PM

McCain wiped the floor with Obama. I really tried to listen to what he was saying, but he just kept putting me to sleep by the end of the first sentence.

He has good tone and delivery (not tonight, though) but he says nothing. McCain’s answers hinted at more knowledge, more understanding, more experience than Barry’s did. Obama just sounded like some plan with a man. He’s like a black preacher-man version of Kerry with even fewer credentials.

Viscount_Bolingbroke on October 15, 2008 at 10:44 PM

Luntz’s focus group broke for Obama.

Star20 on October 15, 2008 at 10:44 PM

1) McCain hit all the right notes with me tonight. He stuck it to Barack “Violence Against Wimmenz” Obama on everything from Barry’s Bush-McCain screed to wealth redistribution.

2) Speaking of Obama . . . I’ve always believed that the best indicator of how someone really feels about an issue is the first thing that comes out of their mouth under pressure. That classless little bitch said a thousand words to me by responding to McCain’s statement about Lewis, the comparison to George Wallace, and how it hurt him with first defending it and then attacking Gov. Palin.

3) Who the heck does Barry think he’s fooling by saying he never agreed to meet with Ah’manutjob without preconditions?

Ryan Gandy on October 15, 2008 at 10:45 PM

Mccain killed him.

My favorite part was when Senator Government called all Mccain supporters RACIST!

NO. WAY.

Guardian on October 15, 2008 at 10:47 PM

What were these guys watching. seriously

YellowDawg on October 15, 2008 at 10:39 PM

I couldn’t bring myself to watch. So I merely monitored comments. I’ve been sorely disappointed since Saddleback.

I will say that from the comments, there were many times where commenters seemed to say that he’d pulled his punches.

So I’m not surprised to see the Fox panel be ho hum. I’m not sure that I even want to watch it now. I’m pissed that in a lousy economy McCain evidently didn’t know enough to hang Ayers and the $161M they blew together around Obama’s neck.

It may have been better, but sadly he doesn’t close on too many points. The point about Obama’s taxes as welfare would have been great. Instead, that assertion goes unchallenged, except for two or thre WSJ articles, for the rest of the election, and no one is the wiser.

Sounds like a blown opportunity–or many of them.

Over30 on October 15, 2008 at 10:47 PM

I have to question the “undecided” status of the Luntz group too. Four people decided tonight, and all four for Obama? Call me dubious.

neuquenguy on October 15, 2008 at 10:48 PM

I turn the TV off after the debates. I just don’t listen to all that stuff.

AubieJon on October 15, 2008 at 10:49 PM

McCain did well for MCCAIN…he is not a great debater. Everyone is going to say it wasn’t enough…that he needed to come down harder on the democrats for the Fannie/Freddie debacle, and that he should have hit bambi harder on the associations.

But…he still flustered Obama.

Disengage the Ustream any day now.

Three debates and no 2nd amendment questions.

Bishop on October 15, 2008 at 10:49 PM

WELL! It is nice to be pleasantly surprised.

Overall:
McCain B+
0bama D-

0bama’s physical appearance aged 10 years in 90 minutes,
McCain looked 10 years younger at the end.

McCain only used half of his ammunition, and missed with the half of it he did fire off, but he still managed to plug barry-0 in the vitals enough to (maybe) do the job.

If someone had wiped my memories of the last 33 years of my knowledge of McCain this afternoon, I’d be putting on the McCain ‘08 bumper stickers and erecting the yard signs right now.

As it is, I might be able to put my mark next to his name on Election day… IF he doesn’t pi$$ me off again in the next three weeks. That’s something I never expected to say.

And once again, the Luntz people have proven that they are all either absolute idiots, or are liars when they say they are independents.

I think that tonight may have been a game changer…. even though the MSM and the idiots will try to spin it as an 0bama win.

LegendHasIt on October 15, 2008 at 10:49 PM

Better debate. I give Obama points on style but he loses on accuracy. He out and out lied in the manner in which he described both his association with Bill Ayers and his lack of support for the Unborn Infancy Protection Act. He simply lied. McCain is still rough around the edges but much more truthful and I thought he gave a very spirited debate. I would give it to him.

Why do these guys keep missing the point about Ayers? The main reason they were friends is because they agreed with eachothers POLITICS! That’s why it’s relevant. A person who spends their whole life either as a terrorist or a ‘community organizer’ puts politics as the most important thing in their life. They could never have been friends had they not seen eye to eye on their politics and that means that Obama has the same point of view toward America as a terrorist!
