Video: Voters testify before Ohio elections board that ACORN registered them multiple times

posted at 2:35 pm on October 13, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | regular view

The star witness: Freddie Johnson, whom Michelle wrote about on Friday. The Cleveland Plain Dealer picks up the story:

Cuyahoga board of elections members learned recently that many ACORN canvassers had quotas and often had to scramble to meet them. Board employees had flagged a number of registration cards handed in by ACORN that showed the same names, but with different addresses or birth dates.

After testifying, both men were led to a private office and were interviewed by Cuyahoga County sheriff’s deputies. The board decided during its meeting that it would turn over the ACORN investigation to the sheriff and county prosecutor’s office.

A sheriff’s deputy said neither Johnson nor Barkley have been charged with a crime, but could be used as witnesses later.

Coincidentally, Ace hears through the grapevine that ACORN could be looking at RICO charges in Ohio as early as tomorrow. A campaign coup for McCain to coincide with The One fine-tuning the language about ACORN on his anti-smears site?

Perhaps. But, says the boss, not as much as it might have been.

I thought it was the republicans who cheated in Ohio?

Tommy_G on October 13, 2008 at 2:36 PM

If this election is at all close, considering the liberals always assume that if the right wins it was by cheating, this could make the 2000 debacle look like a tea party.

In fact, if your dog is in the room while you view the video or read AP’s synopsis, then it is racist too.

With McCain, is it two steps forward and one back, or one step forward and two back?

At this point, it’s our steps because he’s shot himself in the foot (both feet) so many times, Palin is dragging him to November 4.

This is too sweet. I hate voter fraud and Obama has his fingerprints all over this.

That community organizing line on the resume doesn’t look so good now: ACORN workers who approached him while he was reading on Public Square that he already was registered. But the workers would persist. Hm, willful violation.

Regardless of who wins this election, I hope Acorn is smashed.

Fraud is fraud and if you as an individual or as an organization (ACORN) knowingly have people registering to vote more than once (numerous times in manycases) or you are registering dead people, or you are registering people not eligible to vote then YOU ARE COMMITTING VOTER FRAUD…no if’s, and’s, or but’s about it!

The government today announced that it is changing its national symbol to the CONDOM because it more accurately reflects the government’s political stance. A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sense of security while you’re actually being screwed.

Kind of like the states that have to bend over backwards to prove their elections are fair, Acorn should have to bend over backward to prove they should be allowed to handle sensitive voter information.

I was looking at the Indiana voter ID case yesterday and I noticed that ACORN.org was gone. Today it is back, wonder what they scrubbed.

Here is more on the case.

Link

In 1995, then GOP Gov. Jim Edgar refused to implement the federal “Motor Voter” law. Allowing voters to register using only a postcard and blocking the state from culling voter rolls, he argued, could invite fraud. Mr. Obama sued on behalf of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, and won. Acorn later invited Mr. Obama to help train its staff; Mr. Obama would also sit on the board of the Woods Fund for Chicago, which frequently gave this group grants.

Mr. Obama continues to back Acorn. They both joined briefs urging the Supreme Court to overturn Indiana’s law.

I could be wrong but I believe that Congress determines the date of presidential/vice presidential election. Therefore it would up to Congress to change the date and it would have to allow for time to make the transition to the new administration on January 20th. Moving the date more than a few weeks would make it next to impossible for the states to certify their votes and the electors have to meet in mid-December to cast their formal vote in the various state capitals. Don’t see much of a chance of a date change being done by Congress. Just have to muddle through, prosecute the ______ out of ACORN, and try to fix the mess before the next election. Exit question: What do you think the chance of that is with Dems controlling the WH and the Congress?

ACORN,registered them multiple times!

This must be the work of,the Vast Left Wing Conspiracy

Since the DNC,has altered the rules, and are fraudulently
buying votes,spook’s and ghosts(Lib troll’s,thats I see
dead people voting!)and every other Tom,Dick, and Harry
that are voting multiple times,

its time to spin zee tables, and I suggest, that a new
voting card get made, picture ID,and a bullit proof,
fraud proof new system,me thinks!!

canopfor on October 13, 2008 at 3:07 PM

So does ACORN then provide people who are going to vote under the multiple names? Or do they do this to skew polls? If id was required to vote all of this would be avoided. And to think that they receive taxpayer dollars to perpetrate this fraud!

I read where ACORN complains that they try, but they don’t have enough staff to catch all the fraudulent registrations. So we are supposed to feel sorry for them, that they can’t catch all the fraud they create. Maybe we should send them more tax dollars!

Yeah, I wish McCain had credibility on this issue, but only Palin has shown me record of a reformer. The longer this election goes, the more I wish Mitt or Rudy had headlined the ticket. Outsider or prosecutor. Oh well.

But I loved the idea coming out of convention of a reform ticket, but no names in the bailout, etc. Not to be off-track, but I really think we need reform on gerrymandering desperately.

Acorn should have to bend over backward to prove they should be allowed to handle sensitive voter information.

Nope, they just stick some kids in matching T-shirts, hand ‘em clipboards and tell ‘em they get paid $X for each registration they bring back.

Just sign up on the clipboard right under the fake guy above you. You can use the trashcans in Public Square for a desk if you need to. I’ve thought about signing up a few times myself just as a proof-of-concept, but I just know I’ll be the one guy they investigate and they’ll find a way to trash my legitimate registration. Republican tries to register twice: then you’d see ACORN in the headlines.

saint kansas on October 13, 2008 at 3:12 PM

No damn wonder the Democrat Ohio official refused to allow observers at the polls. The gig would be up.

She won’t get a bonus out of the fraud like Raines and Johnson did, hiding the failure of affirmative-action lending, but fraud is fraud.

Will a tied election be settled by whose Freikorps is better armed and more ruthless?

Harry Schell on October 13, 2008 at 3:15 PM

Did McCain pay ACORN to register voters for him?

Queen0fCups on October 13, 2008 at 2:58 PM

Huh? Not that I’ve ever heard, besides why would McCain want help from ACORN since ACORN has already endorsed “THE ONE” (despite in news interviews ACORN touting they are bi-partisan)that and ACORN would probably just throw away any voter registrations they suspect would vote for McCain, e.g., any voter registration that the registrant declared themselves as a Republican!

Liberty or Death on October 13, 2008 at 3:15 PM

A quick way to do this is to rule all registrations filed through ACORN or any of its subsidiaries invalid. States could then allow one week for any person who was registered by ACORN to re-register at a legitimate registration site. Close all registration after one week…followed by massive lawsuits from the ACLU claiming discrimination and disenfranchisement by the ultra-right wing conspiracy trying to steal the election for the One.

MadisonConservative on October 13, 2008 at 2:37 PM

It’s important for us conservatives to focus on this, but the truth is that Ohio probably isn’t going to matter in this election. Obama probably will win by over 320 electoral votes, in which case Ohio is irrelevant.

But if Ohio IS the lynch pin of the election, pay careful attention to what I call the “margin of fraud.” In 2004, Ohio went for Bush by 110,000 votes. The Dems cried foul because of (alleged) irregularities or discrepancies that may have affected 10,000 votes. Even assuming, contrafactually, that the Democrats stole no votes and the Republicans stole 10x that number of votes, the alleged “fraud” would not have affected the outcome.

In this election, I’d say the “margin of fraud” is probably going to be 30,000 to 40,000 votes. If this election DOES hinge on Ohio and the race is within that margin, I’d cry foul were I McCain. I hope his Ohio legal team is ready to rock & roll.

I know I have talked to members of my family and very few have heard anything negative about Obama at all.

If everyone in America has heard all the dirt on Obama and still vote for him well, that is that. But when the truth is being suppressed and Obama is so popular on the basis of incomplete information that is just wrong. So wrong and there doesn’t seem to be anyway around the failure of the media to investigate him.

petunia on October 13, 2008 at 3:33 PM

Vote early, vote often: don’t forget to add multiple registrations to Ohio’s early voting, giving you weeks to get all your votes in. And check out this “expert analysis” from the Plain Dealer’s Washington bureau:

For the Obama campaign, early voting could be helpful in boosting turnout among newly registered young and black voters who are balancing classwork or child-care obligations that can make it hard for them to show up on Election Day. For the McCain campaign, it could be helpful with independents who are drawn to the candidate’s maverick image but aren’t in the habit of voting regularly.

See, it’s harder for blacks to get to the polls; they can’t be expected to vote on Election Day.

If that is true they have no business doing what they do. They are not doing a public service if they allow fraud no matter the excuse. Either get the fraud out or stop running your business.

This is all planned a calculated. It effects the race already because it inflates the democrats numbers and changes the weighting of parties in calculating the poll numbers. Then it creates false momentum, which in turn increases the likelyhood of band wagon voting for Obama. This is evil and calculated.

In 1970, one of George Wiley’s protégés, Wade Rathke — like Bill Ayers, a member of the radical Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) — was sent to found the Arkansas Community Organizations for Reform Now. While NWRO had made a good start, it alone couldn’t accomplish the Cloward-Piven goals. Rathke’s group broadened the offensive to include a wide array of low income “rights.” Shortly thereafter they changed “Arkansas” to “Association of” and ACORN went nationwide.

Today ACORN is involved in a wide array of activities, including housing, voting rights, illegal immigration and other issues. According to ACORN’s website: “ACORN is the nation’s largest grassroots community organization of low-and moderate-income people with over 400,000 member families organized into more than 1,200 neighborhood chapters in 110 cities across the country,” It is perhaps the largest radical group in the U.S. and has been cited for widespread criminal activity on many fronts.

Perhaps. But, says the boss, not as much as it might have been.

I give up. McCain is without controversy the least likable Republican presidential candidate in my lifetime. It’s impossible to support him without reservation.

Amnesty, cap and trade, crippling of political speech, and now we see he’s buddied up to ACORN in the past…

McCain is an ‘outsider’ here, while Obama is the ‘insider’ here. Insider Trading = jail time.

They act like this is a new thing. ACORN has been doing this forever, and getting caught; they were caught here in Washington state, the year “Chris” Gregoire magically produced enough votes to “defeat” Dino Rossi after multiple recounts.

This is just what they do, then they tell the authorities it’s an aberration, that it’s some rogue employee doing it, unbeknownst to the organization – but there’s nothing accidental about it.

This is a great campaign issue. I wish Barack’s middle name was “ACORN.” Maybe then we would push it.

The Race Card on October 13, 2008 at 2:38 PM

Actually, if McCain didn’t have his own connections to ACORN we’d probably be able to push this harder.

And to be fair, it was McCain who didn’t want Obama’s middle name used, and it’s McCain who’s not making a bigger deal out of this. Plenty of conservatives are, just not him.

In view of the problems in several states with ACORN registrations, the obvious solution is to void ALL ACORN registrations in every state, and put them out of business. There are other venues to use for voter registration, that are far more credible.

Survival.

That’s what the holiday is all about.

For the record, I didn’t know Canada had a Thanksgiving Day. Happy Thanksgiving, Canadians!

Yep, and as the article linked by Kevin in Washington said (he beat me to it) ACORN has been doing this for some time.

I also posted this earlier as an answer to the following Queen0fCups post:

Did McCain pay ACORN to register voters for him?

Queen0fCups on October 13, 2008 at 2:58 PM

Huh? Not that I’ve ever heard, besides why would McCain want help from ACORN since ACORN has already endorsed “THE ONE” (despite in news interviews ACORN touting they are bi-partisan)that and ACORN would probably just throw away any voter registrations they suspect would vote for McCain, e.g., any voter registration that the registrant declared themselves as a Republican!

Liberty or Death on October 13, 2008 at 3:15 PM

Below is an excerpt from the article (Cloward and Priven Strategy) Kevin of Washington posted that I believe bolsters my claim that McCain wouldn’t pay ACORN to register voters for him, that in fact ACORN would probably destroy any voter registrations from registrants that declare they are Republican! Take a minute to read the entire article, it’s worth it:

ACORN’s voter rights tactics follow the Cloward-Piven Strategy:

1. Register as many Democrat voters as possible, legal or otherwise and help them vote, multiple times if possible.

2. Overwhelm the system with fraudulent registrations using multiple entries of the same name, names of deceased, random names from the phone book, even contrived names.

3. Make the system difficult to police by lobbying for minimal identification standards.

In this effort, ACORN sets up registration sites all over the country and has been frequently cited for turning in fraudulent registrations, as well as destroying republican applications.

A note to the lefty in-the-tank-for-Obama media: Voter fraud is voter fraud regardless if anyone does or does not vote using fraudulent registrations!

Liberty or Death on October 13, 2008 at 4:47 PM

ACORN doesn’t matter if McCain isn’t willing to connect the dots.
