McCain: Fight

A mid-afternoon pep talk. As with (almost) all things McCain, the boss is underwhelmed.
Update: Hmmm: “This is NOT McCain’s closing speech. McCain advisers say they’re saving their best material for the last ten days of the race, when, the campaign hopes, three quarters of the remaining undecided voters will make up their minds, and their minds will be concentrating on Barack Obama.”

As much as I love Rush, anything he’s said should probably not be considered, since I’m confident the Obamatons have everything he’s said on record already.

“Name the names,make them famous!
canopfor on October 13, 2008 at 3:54 PM”
HA HA HA!!! That is actually a very good point.
Mav will make sure that anybody who puts in “pork barrel spending” in a legislative bill will become famous, but I sense that if the person to be made famous is a conservative, he may be in bigger danger than if it is a democrat or a pretend-republican like Grahamnesty.
However, he wont name names of Obama’s terrorist ties, just pork barrel spending proponents. This is a case of a guy who can only focus on one thing at a time. Remember in 2000 how Mav could ONLY talk about campaign finance reform? Now he is ONLY comfortable talking about pork barrel spending which, although he may be right, is HARDLY the issue driving americans today. dumb

Hey, Attic, I didn’t call you a grouser or a griper – that was for a handful of others. Never thought of you that way. Inchoately monstrous presence looming in the darkness, maybe, but never a grouser or a griper.
I don’t have anything against thoughtful criticism – but pointless gloom and pessimism, not to mention ventilation of terminal MDS, with 3 weeks to go and facing the spectre of an Obama-Reid-Pelosi regime (talk about a looming, inchoately monstrous presence!), that’s something different.

Thats plain stupid. But hey, Bush still has about 26% aproval rate so I think everything is possible. I mean why do we hide and not say that the Bush administration has his part of guilt in the financial meltdown and that Bush’s last 4 years hasn’t been exactly great. We are in a perfect strom times and dreaming of Romney’s chanses is not going to help a lot.

In McCain’s case, isn’t this akin to being down 10 points with 3 minutes left in the game and deciding to go into a four-corners stall for two minutes (assuming no shot clock) and hoping to win in the final minute?
Oy.
Can’t resist: They go hunting with Cheney.
Seriously, is anyone else in favor of McCain proposing a prospective cabinet. For the past three to four weeks, he’s been wanderging around the country looking like Moses wandering in in the desert for 20 years. Somebne get him to Mount Sinai and the burning bush already (Karl Rove, Bill Kristol, whoever), and let’s get this show on the rode.
Moses had Aaron as his spokesman. Maybe if McCain could have Rudy as his by announcing that Rudy would be his AG and that Rudy would make it his first priority to investigage the role of Congress in the credit crisis. A few tough-guy Caleb- and Joshua-types in that proposed cabinet wouldn’t hurt either.

“I strongly disagree with this ideea that Romney would have been better and that the market crash was predictible.
clemycali on October 13, 2008 at 3:56 PM”
Assuming that you are talking about the credit markets, not the stock market, then you are demonstrably wrong. The credit market has been in a significant crunch for about 16 months. The Fed has been warning of it getting worse and some knowledgable repbulicans (I think all house of reps types) have also been yelling about the coming danger.
But Mav wouldnt understand the credit markets…probably confuses it with the stock market like you just did and so he certainly missed the boat.
of course, the real kicker is Mav’s plan to have the government buy up real estate loans where the lender is under water. That is like sticking up a flashing sign that says “HEY EVERYBODY, IF YOU ARE UNDER WATER ON YOUR HOME LOAN…WALK AWAY…THE TAXPAYERS WILL BAIL YOU OUT!!”
Michelle Malkin is correct. That was disgusting and extremely liberal. But, who is going to correct him? Palin? Grahamnesty? A bunch of bozos is what they are.
Republicans get what they deserve…unfortunately for the country.

I don’t know about you McCain supporters, but your candidate is not a fighter. He lost it, all his “b…”. It is like he is sabotaging his campaign to get Obama elected. Gee it is so obvious he does not want to win. You have to get used to seeing a Socialist United States. The winner is the media who wanted him to win the primary and left the GOP without true representation. I don’t understand why the GOP got him to be their nominee.

I don’t expect “automaton-like glee” but comments like your one at 3:09 – “Empty words from a half-assed candidate” – read like a summary dismissal, in the neighborhood of automaton-like hatred. You’ve got to know that there are many of us, presumably on your side, are going to find such a statement a bit of a buzzkill, to put it mildly. I strongly disagree with you that his words were “empty” (all of them – do you really mean that?), and just because you don’t agree with his strategy doesn’t make it “half-assed.” That’s just crude and insulting. And you’ll find lots of people across the broad coalition that McCain is struggling to assemble who believe, rightly or wrongly, that he’s been too negative, too feisty, and so on. You think what he’s trying to achieve is easy? With the Democratic Party, the leftwing nutjobs and criminals, the Bush legacy, the financial catastrophe, the MDS conservatives, the elitist traitors, the mass media, world opinion, political history, and your dog Spot against him?
He’s not the greatest-ever speaker, not as young as he was, but he’s a great American and he’s put a whole helluva lot more into defeating the democratic socialist, his congressional enablers, and their army of real and virtual thugs than you or I have. And he threw us Palin. So how about giving him and those of us who want to fight on his side just a bit of a break?
CK MacLeod on October 13, 2008 at 4:33 PM
Thanks, I hit submit before throwing in some attribution. I think I took the cabinet idea from an article today at townhall.com by Burt Prelutsky. It’s a good feel good piece. All the advice you’d like to give McCain…but know he won’t take.
Oy.
BuckeyeSam on October 13, 2008 at 4:34 PM
Obama has been getting lots of traction on the financial crisis, that somehow his “change” would be better than a continuation of the Bush “deregulation” policy (when it was really the Democrats who deregulated).
But all three market indexes are up over 11% today. Obviously, not back to where they were early last month, but if the markets can rebound significantly and have confidence that things won’t crash, could the campaign then focus on other issues?
Could a sharply recovering market favor McCain? If a market in apparent free-fall might lead voters to turn to an untested agent of unspecified “change”, then if the fix of the existing leadership seems to be working, will people still want to give the rookie the chance to screw up a fragile market, or let cooler heads prevail?
If the markets continue to rebound and then stabilize near Election Day, McCain could then blame Obama for being part of the problem (his representing ACORN on forcing banks to make risky loans, the Democrats’ blocking his reform of Fannie and Freddie in 2005), then could TAKE CREDIT for working with Congress to help with the bailout, and his proposed aid to troubled homeowners, while Obama was AWOL on the campaign trail.
Time will tell whether the markets have really stabilized–they have been extremely volatile over the past few weeks. But if they do stabilize enough so that people believe the “bottom” to be behind them, this would probably help McCain, because “blaming Bush” wouldn’t have much traction any more since Bush&Co. would have fixed the problem, and McCain could start attacking Obama on other issues without seeming “desperate”.
Steve Z on October 13, 2008 at 4:37 PM
McCain is going to win! My poor state raised more money for him than THE ONE! He only got $300,000 from The Magnolia State and Johnny Mac received a little over a cool million!

She can speak for herself. As for you, for someone who shows little hesitation throwing around insults and foul language, you sure get prissy sometimes. How is it that in your world denouncing the candidate you say you’re fighting for is OK, but responding to those denunciations is an Axelrodian effort to squelch free speech?

Otherwise we have to hope that the current crop of Democrtic scandals will weigh on some “undecideds” decisions. And/or, the Clinton’s finally cough up whatever they might have. annie – I had the same initial reaction to Kristol’s column and his comments on FNS yesterday – as in, Kristol must must have caught the same pundit flu that’s been going around – but what he had to say was a little less stupid than the headline made it seem on first glance.
I don’t think it would be wise or even possible to adopt Kristol’s suggestions right away and exactly as written, but I think the overall suggestion is something the McCain campaign wanted to do anyway – get feisty, but not shrill, serious but not gloomy, optimistic but not polyannish, etc. The idea of getting the two candidates into the media more directly isn’t bad either, but that trick could get old really fast if the campaign doesn’t want its two candidates to turn into mere talking heads three weeks ahead of time.
I’ve always thought – and believed McCain planned – a kind of Trumanesque, shirtsleeves, come-from-behind finish. In the media age, it might look a lot like Kristol’s idea. I think it starts Thursday.

Dude, seriously, if you respond to me, say what you would say if we were face to face.
Now let me explain how you are wrong. Democrats dont have to be logical or know what they are talking about. Their constiuency doesnt require it. They require feel good politics even if they are void of logic.
Republicans, on the other hand, only do well when they can make a rational argument for their cause or their candidacy. So, yes, an illogical, inexperienced liberal candidate (especically one who would be the first black president) is held under a different standard than a republican.
It may be true that everybody on hot air agrees with her, including me, since she ONLY talks about social conservativism like abortion, gay rights, gun rights, etc.
However, when it comes to the OTHER vital issues of foreign policy and economic policy (two of the OTHER three pillars of conservatism), she is either a complete ignoramus or cant articulate a point….sorta like John McCain.
That is why she makes MOST people nervous about her ability to lead the country, should she become POTUS, particularly in a challenging time like we are in now. Ever read the Wall Street Journal? (We know Palin doesnt until a McCain advisor told her that she did.) They just had a poll showing that a significant majority of likely votors consider Palin to be a liability on the ticket. That poll may not reflect the hot air community, but the likely voting population tends to be a tad more important when selecting a POTUS.
Finally, you used the ol standby that if I dont agree with you, I must be a “troll”. Insecure about your weak opinions, I see.

My wife was coming home through Ft. Myers from a client site during rush hour this afternoon.
