CNN to black McCain supporter: Um, why aren’t you backing Obama?
posted at 12:10 pm on October 13, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly
Specifically, why isn’t he backing him “in light of what’s happened” to the campaign’s tone? Is he really going to tolerate McCain reminding America that The One had no moral objection to associating with domestic terrorists? According to the media, that’s practically race treason.
In case you don’t know who Harris is, you’ll find an explanation below the clip. Exit question: Did CNN pause, even for a moment, while sifting those e-mails Lemon reads at the beginning to savor the irony of complaining about conservatives’ tone here?

Nope, nope. Can’t have that.

It’s odd that it took this long for them to begin asking the “how can you support such racists?” questions. I remember watching his clip begging McCain to step up his game and wondering how long it would be before someone began to persecute him for his views…

Voting for Obama because he’s black is just a different kind of racism. There’s nothing post-racial about Obama.

I did ask that this weekend, at a little coffee shop. My Best Friend was there, who is black. I was called a racist right away by this smelly little tree hugger whom didn’t realize that I and my Best friend were enjoying a cup of coffee. The tree hugger turned to my Best Friend and asked her if she was going to let me talk like that. And my Best Friend said “Yes, because it is odd that black men and women can call anyone racist, yet white people can’t ask the same questions. If you think she is racist, then you have a lot to learn about whom is what in the world.” It shut the tree hugger up and her group walked out. It was great!

Watched that jaw-dropping moment last night. I couldn’t believe what I was watching. Two questions did occur to me: Where exactly do they find these fools on TV? there seems to be a never ending supply of them. Also, what are the qualifications of this fool?
As annoying as it was I wasn’t completely surprised. I am a black man and when I just happened to announce, in a political conversation pertaining to whom we all plan on voting for, that I am supporting McCain and that I thought Obama was a well packaged con-artist my white co-workers were shocked, shocked that a black man would not be supporting Obama.

I’m so sick and tired of blacks automatically being targeted if they stray from the Democratic herd. And ask a black American who goes democratic to explain why the party is the right party for them…you’ll often go a blank stare. Which is why I’m convinced most of the black support for the democratic party is blind.
TheBlueSite on October 13, 2008 at 12:30 PM
So there’s a CNN show where they read comments from websites on the air to attack their guests?
Why are there still people watching that network?
MadisonConservative on October 13, 2008 at 12:30 PM
The worst thing the Republican Party ever did, was allowing the Democrats to take credit for the Civil Rights movement. The second worst thing they’ve done is not fight to take the high ground back. How about reminding the people of Lincoln. Remind them of who was the first to introduce the civil rights laws. Remind them who introduced the Jim Crow laws. It goes on and on. They need to remind America.
Rogue Traveler on October 13, 2008 at 12:30 PM
Not only is is NOT racist for minorities to vote based on skin color, apparently CNN thinks it is deviant behavior for them not to!
Yeah, just imagine a white CNN talking head asking a white Obama supporter why they aren’t supporting McCain?! The guy would be cleaning out his desk before the next commerical! CNN is a farce… no, more like an insult to decent and intelligent people.
Come to think about it, wouldn’t that be a great way for a truly principled MSM journo to make a statement about the hypocrisy of his employer? Now, if only such a beast actually existed…
drunyan8315 on October 13, 2008 at 12:31 PM
Counter this nonsense by quoting MLK. We are not rejecting Obama because of the color of his skin; we are rejecting him because of the content of his character.
Disturb the Universe on October 13, 2008 at 12:32 PM
Absolutely right. Like Uncle Tom, Mr. Harris was pilloried today. Uncle Tom died at the hands of Simon Legree because he would not give up information about where the women Legree sought were hidden (and whom he had exhorted to escape). He refused to commit violence (having renounced the violence of his earlier life), but also refused to lie, and he remained true to his beliefs, that all people have the right to freedom, unto his death.
I’ve never figured out why Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom character is so despised — he is the saintly archetype of Christianity.

I have a similar problem. Gay Jews have the notion that all gay Jews should support Obama. I sometimes try to point out how Obama is not in the interest of Israel, but that old Chamberlain magic is now being worked by Obama. It’s deeply frustrating in that I’m pretty sure I’m right that McCain is much more in the interest of all Jews than is Obama.
Of course, we should be voting on the basis of what’s good for the whole economy and nation and that means thinking about how things are going in the world now. I sometimes get the feeling that it’s not just the Hassidic Jews who are still stuck in the mentality of the 18th century eastern European ghetto.

Black liberals are so freakin’ coordinated!! They can actually walk and talk and breathe with their heads shoved up their own a$$es, all the way to the shoulders.
They keep saying they want equality but they continually vote into office people whose success is based – not on results – but on how much they can remind blacks of how far behind they are. Their incentive then is to keep shouting “HELP, dis black man is drownin’” while he’s the one shoving the black man’s head under the water.
Amazing.
AubieJon on October 13, 2008 at 12:43 PM

it is precisely because of columns such as these and those by David Brooks, George Will, the insulting liberal jerks and condescending co-workers that I want McCain to win more than ever. It would please me to the end of my days when I hear these assholes say through gritted teeth: VICE PRESIDENT PALIN
titus_pullo on October 13, 2008 at 12:54 PM
As a black person who is a republican and voting for McCain, this really sickens me. Just because this guy decides to think differently and vote on character rather than skin color they call him a traitor.
If Obama policies were like McCain’s I would vote for him proudly. But he is a liberal and his policies are wrong so I’m voting for McCain. Who cares what color his skin is.
Talking about this stuff just makes me angry, it’s like the Rev. Wright stuff, every commentator said that his rhetoric is “common” in black churches, which is complete BS. I’ve been to tons of black churches his comments were radical and racist. The only people I know who talk like Wright are Black muslims. Obama sitting in that church for 20 years receiving guidance from that nut is reason enough not to vote for him alone.

My wife has been going through almost the exact same thing as this Harris guy. First comes the expectation that she is supporting Obama. Then the utter shock and amazement that she dare not be considering him because of his stance on things like abortion. Then the spin covering for Obama’s positions. And finally, the complete the shutting out after she presents them with the facts and continues to not support Obama.
Fortunately, we haven’t had anything violent. I’d hate to see the reaction of these kind-hearted, passive, Obama supporters if we put a McCain-Palin sticker on her car.

This is all straight out of Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals.
“Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.”
“If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside”
“Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”
These are the words of Alinsky, and America has taken the bait. Obama is executing his plans to perfection.

Rich, to that I would add the follow up question: You won’t answer because you’re supposed to be unbiased and just report the news? Then why are you asking me such a racially charged question like this, which literally “dares” me to say why I’m not supporting a black candidate merely because of his race? Then when they refuse to respond, just tell them you are voting on principle, not a silly side issue which does not address the salient facts in this race.
This whole clip reminds me of the one at the Republican convention when Newt did that to the black CNN floor reporter, who stammered until they saved him by cutting away. It was priceless, the unmasking of the bias!

Sadly, conservative black men don’t typically get much of a platform on the MSM. I’m hopeful there are more of them out there than we are led to believe. The hatred that comes the way of those like Mr. Harris and Clarence Thomas, etc. doesn’t provide a lot of incentive for non-liberal blacks to make their voices known. I’m always shocked that it would be that way here in the “land of the FREE“, though I get less shocked every day. Mine? Dealing with Iran.
As much as I am loathe to choose between how fast our government goes commie (as big government is running on both tickets), I will not tolerate a raging theocrat desiring nukes in order to bring about the 12th coming of his precious cailaph.
If Iran tries to nuke Israel, Israel will turn that region into a sea of glass, which means massive fallout for planet Earth (plus global cooling–although that would put Al Gore out of business).
