Ayers mainstream? Only in Chicago

posted at 2:10 pm on October 12, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

John Kass tries to explain how unrepentant domestic terrorists like William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn could be considered “mainstream”.  It takes a healthy dose of The Chicago Way, but also a healthy dose of infiltration by some of Ayers’ old radical compatriots into the Daley Machine.  One of Ayers’ staunch defenders in Chicago, Marilyn Katz, was part of the same SDS that launched the Weather Underground — and who now works on Team Obama:

One friend of Obama and Ayers is former ’60s radical Marilyn Katz, now an Obama fundraiser, strategist and public relations maven. She’s often a go-to quote for reporters to knock down the Ayers-Obama story.

“What Bill Ayers and [former Black Panther, now U.S. Rep.] Bobby Rush . . . did 40 years ago has nothing to do with [the presidential campaign],” Katz was quoted as saying in the Chicago Sun-Times in April. “[Ayers] has a national reputation. He lectures at Harvard [University] and Vassar [College].”

What that story and many other pro-Obama articles gloss over is that during the violent protests of the 1968 Democratic National Convention here, Katz was the security chief for the radical Students for a Democratic Society. She once advocated throwing studded nails in front of police cars, back in the SDS days when the group was alleged to have thrown cellophane bags full of human excrement at cops and cans of urine and golf balls impaled with nails.

How things change.

Under this Daley, her firm, MK Communications, has many city deals, and one involves public relations for the Chicago Police Department’s community policing program. From nails to contracts, the Chicago Way. Apparently, irony was not a ’60s thing.

When you hear that Ayers is mainstream, consider the source.  And while we’re at it, how many more SDS radicals now work for Barack Obama?

I think it is time to pull out the markers. Remember when Rush would tell us to make little signs to place under our television sets whenever Clinton would have a State of the Union speech, or would be speaking for whatever reason? Okay, I think we all need to make signs, tape them under our televisions and perhaps on our radios. They need to have some sort of saying that will encourage us to keep plugging away or keep our spirits up. Suggestions? Maybe something like:

Don’t Tread On Me!
God Save Us!
In God We Trust!
Americans Never Give Up!
Live Free or Die!
Drag Yosemite Sam Over the Finish Line!
MSMs Always Lie!
If Depressed, Turn This Contraption OFF!
Ayers, ACORN, Alinsky, Rezko, Farrakhan, Pflegger, Wright, etc.!

Just whatever flips your switch, but we cannot let this man win because we gave up.

Another example of the Daley Chicago way:

Daley bulldozed airport runways at 1:30 AM, stranding aircraft on the ground, with another in the air at the time, which had to divert.

And from Wiki:

In an illegal move on March 30, 2003, Mayor Daley ordered private crews to destroy the runway in the middle of the night, bulldozing large X-shaped gouges into the runway surface.[6] The required notice was not given to the Federal Aviation Administration or the owners of airplanes tied down at the field, and as a result sixteen planes were left stranded at an airport with no operating runway, and an incoming flight was diverted. The stranded aircraft were later allowed to depart from Meigs’ 3,000 foot (914 m) taxiway.[7]

I am just saying…Barry and Salvadore would be Marxist soul mates if Salvadore were still around. If you recall Salvadore was elected president of Chile in the 1970s and his Marxist followers turned violent after he was sworn in. Salvadore threw his support behind them and before it was over the military had to step in. With William Ayers and Dohrn and the rest of the Weather Underground waiting in the wings, and Obama’s affection for that crowd, I just have an uneasy feeling.

JonRoss on October 12, 2008 at 2:41 PM

If what I read was correct the Weather Underground folks that were killed while making a bomb had planned to use it at a dance for non-commission officers. Talk about a sign from God, apparently Mr. Ayers and his bride weren’t listening.

Body count. In the last six months 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago, 221 killed in Iraq

Senators Barack Obama and Dick Durbin, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., Gov. Rod Blogojevich, House leader Mike Madigan, Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan, Mayor Richard Daley…..the leadership in Illinois…..all Democrats. Thank these people for the combat zone in Chicago . Of course, they’re all blaming each other. They can’t blame Republicans, there aren’t any!

The state pension fund is $44 Billion in debt, the worst in country. Cook County (Chicago) sales tax of 10.25% is the highest in country.(Look ‘em up if you want). Chicago school system is one of the worst in country. This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois AND he’s gonna ‘fix’ Washington politics?

That last paragraph should be in a RNC ad. I remember George H.W. Bush demolishing the so-called “Massachusetts Miracle” of Mike Dukakis. Do Americans REALLY believe this guy from Chicago can fix America’s financial system?

Muslims should take advantage of the global financial crisis to build an economic system compatible with Islamic principles, influential Sunni cleric Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi said on Sunday.

“The collapse of the capitalist system based on usury and paper and not on goods traded on the market is proof that it is in crisis and shows that Islamic economic philosophy is holding up,” said the Egyptian-born, Qatar-based cleric.

“The Western system has collapsed and we have a complete economic philosophy as well as spiritual strength,” he said at Sunday’s opening of a conference on Jerusalem.

“All riches are ours… the Islamic nation has all or nearly all the oil and we have an economic philosophy that no one else has,” Qaradawi said.

He urged Muslims to “profit from the crisis to bring about the triumph of the (Islamic) nation, which holds the spiritual and material resources for victory.”

The sixth conference on Jerusalem is being attended by around 300 people representing political parties as well as Muslim and Christian NGOs, from various countries.

It is staged by Al-Quds (Jerusalem) International Institution, which is dedicated to the conservation of the holy city and its sacred places.

Participants include Khaled Meshaal, exiled head of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, and Ali Akbar Velayati, a top adviser to Iranian spiritual leader Ali Khamenei.

Doesn’t this sound like the Democrats policy…

BTW, here’s a snippet from Rick Moran’s May 30, 2008 blog post, Obama’s Radical Political Alliances -

The New Party, ACORN, and the Arab American Action Network are not by any stretch of the imagination mainstream political or social organizations. They are radical anti-capitalist, pro-Marxist, and in the case of the AAAN a group supporting the terrorist activities of the Palestinians.

The New Party is an unabashed Marxist “fusion” party from which Barack Obama actively sought out and received an endorsement for his state senate candidacy. Never heard this story before? It’s not surprising Obama wouldn’t include it in his official bio…

and bygones should be bygones.

In November of 2006, after helping Obama get his start in politics, after helping Obama get on various boards, Ayers appeared on stage with Hugo Chavez – and publically damned America, damned Americans, and declared his personal commitment to violent revolution and the overthrow of American democracy.

Ayers: isn’t just a mellowed out 1960s radical: he’s a rich kid turned traitor, and a formative influence for Mr. Obama.

The PUMAs may be after Barry, but Hillary Clinton is standing behind Blowhard Biden at a campaign event right now in Scranton, PA “fighting the abuse of power by the powerful”.

More Orwellian doublespeak.

Banner on the right side of the page for PBS programming on the 13th of October.

Somebody, anybody, tell me why three weeks before any general election PBS runs a special about President Nixon.

She doesn’t look to happy to be there does she.
And there goes that nails-on-chalkboard voice again.

The great thing about plastic bags is that they make for the most efficient disposal of aborted fetuses, don’t they? I can understand your aversion to them.

More than happy to, Funky…when he actually STARTS fighting…

I’m with ManlyRash. I’ve called the McCain-Palin HQ twice today, first, to complain about McCain giving up and, second, to complain about McCain campaigning in Iowa–and thinking that he can win there.

FWIW: The number is 703-418-2008 (Virginia).

Interesting how Hillary was more tenacious than McCain has even thought of being. To recall the “stand up and fight with me” line from his RNCC speech and now to watch his sleepwalking of the past three, going on to four, weeks is dispiriting and incomprehensible.

Weeks ago, he suspended his campaign. Did he ever actually say that he’s resumed his campaign? At a minimum, he’s checked out in both debates on the domestic issues. In the third debate, if he takes up earmarks again, why get voters lost in a confusing story about an earmark back to Chicago’s Adler Planetarium? I realize that one of the board members is an Obama bundler. But the earmark, if only for $1 million, back to the hospital employing Obama’s wife the year after she went from $122K a year (2005) to $316K (2006) a year gets voters’ attention and gets them asking, “WTF?”

Bill Kristol said it today on Fox Sunday: McCain’s campaign is commiting malpractice. And I’d say serial malpractice.

For the bored and insomniac, here is years of entertaining history on Carl Davidson and his “betrayal” of the Chicago Kook Left by supporting a mainstream(ish) candidate:

History? Yes. Entertaining? No. Compared with this, I prefer Mexican midget hardcore porn.

Speaking of SDS, this is hot off the presses, from The Australian and demonstrates just how F.O.S. Barry is when he uses the “I was only 8 years old” excuse:

In November 2007, during a speech given by Ayers at a reunion of SDS members, Ayers was recorded as praising the group’s spirit of rebellion and quoted communist revolutionary heroes in support of his views, while Dohrn referred to the US government as the “greatest purveyor of violence in the world” and complained that life in America involves living in “the belly of the beast” and at “the heart of the monster”.

Obama was, of course, only about nine when all this started, and wasn’t directly involved in the Weather Underground. However, in his autobiography Dreams From My Father (2004), he makes it clear that he was seeking in his youth to construct an identity as an African-American activist, drawing inspiration from Malcolm X, the radical face of the Nation of Islam, and other radicals from the ’60s.

Indeed, in his second book, The Audacity of Hope (2006), he declares himself to be a pure product of the ’60s and specifically distinguishes the “pre-1967 liberalism” of his mother with “its sweet-natured romanticism”, from his own radical political outlook based in the hard-core revolutionary currents of 1968 and the other violent years that followed.

He described how his vision of the ’60s was shaped by images of Black Panther leader Huey Newton, the fierce battle between police and demonstrators at the 1968 Democratic national convention, the ignominious last-second escape of defeated US personnel from Saigon, and the Rolling Stones concert at Altamont where Hells Angels bashed a young man to death…

But he had no idea that Ayers & Dohrn were unrepentant terrorists.

Hey Dohrn, here’s the good news: you’re free to take your ugly, criminal a$$ (and your ugly, criminal husband and your younger terrorists-in-training) and get the hell out of this country that you despise so much. Why don’t you head to Great Britain? They’re almost as fond of Arabs there as you are, and they have no standards anymore. You’d fit right in.

There’s possbily some new info about to break on Obama re. Ayers. Ace is posting a request to PUMAs specifically to help corroborate some info. he has. Sounds intriguing.

Rush had the best comparison,
Timothy McVeigh was executed and is buried under ground. Bill Ayers got off on a technicality and is now a college professor developing public school curriculum.

Excellent Quin Hillyer piece here at American Spectator.

McCain must win hearts and minds on the social issues – Obama’s Achilles heal.

T J Green on October 12, 2008 at 5:21 PM

One of Ayers’ staunch defenders in Chicago, Marilyn Katz, was part of the same SDS that launched the Weather Underground — and who now works on Team Obama:

SDS…know this was a 60′s radical group, but sounds like something maybe manly would use on his rash.
How you doin’, Manly?

Yesterday’s flower children, Today’s blooming idiots. Gotta get that shirt!

If he’s looking for help from PUMA’s I’d think that Larry Johnson would already have this in the vault.
